36 Weeks (and 1 day) of Maya

Still not on time this week, but better!

Maya is still working on that tooth, but it hasn’t broken through yet. She also has a cold :-(. I don’t have it yet, but as of today Will and Zeke both seem to :-(. This week has been much less eventful than last week, which has been very welcome! Especially since Will is scheduled to go to Hawaii again next week.

Sleeping

Naps have been better this week, since we’ve been doing a lot of relaxing at home :-). We are reaching the point where nighttime can get annoyingly late if there’s a late second nap, but usually it’s pretty good.

Eating

The trend continues, and Maya is more skillful and more directed at eating! Less ends up on the floor these days too. (Less doesn’t mean anywhere close to zero :-).)

EC

I think I’ve had a little more success with pee, though it’s a little harder on really hot days, but less with poop. I catch about as many poops as I usually go, but there have been more frequent really loose ones that I don’t always get. Presumably it’s diet-related. Nighttime EC, OTOH, is going pretty well. Usually when she stirs at night she’ll go back down better if I potty her. And she doesn’t seem to be peeing without stirring first in a pretty obvious way. If I miss one it’s because I have wishful thinking and try to nurse her back down. (That does work too sometimes, so maybe more like wishful gambling.)

Babywearing

I have been noticing that if I’m going to be doing a bunch of stuff with Maya on, it’s really better to have her on my back. My backwrapping skills really aren’t that excellent these days, but I think she’s becoming a little more patient with me fiddling with the wrap job. I took the dogs (individually) on very short walks today with her on my back, after I reseeded the lawn with her on my front and was feeling it a little.

Motor Skills

Maya has hit an inflection point yesterday and today! Before that we were getting occasional long stretches of 10 steps are so, but now it’s different. We’re getting long stretches pretty often, and successful purposeful walking across the room type of stuff. Really cool! I’m pretty much ready to say she is “walking” instead of “taking steps”, though it’s obviously not fluent. She still mostly hasn’t tried to climb up the stairs, and I don’t think I’ve noticed other dramatic motor developments recently.

Communication

Same type of stuff as last week. “Cat” is her most common word. I guess sometimes she’ll stick some advanced-sounding babbles in there too. 

Personality/Other

Kind of a cranky week overall, between the tooth and now the sickness, but Maya is great. I took her to the end of circling with me on Monday, since Will hadn’t gotten back yet, and she did fine actually. 

Siblings

Sibling stuff is still going well. She hasn’t shown signs of being as climbing-oriented as Zeke was, so maybe it’ll be easier to keep her out of there stuff for longer. But we have more space these days anyway, so there are also options where the kids can do into rooms and close the door, which should help.

This has been a much needed week of relaxation, and the upcoming weeks are going to be busier.
