1. When did you first watch TGS?: i was introduced to the fandom very late. we never had money to see it in theaters or buy the movie when it came out, but my aunt was able to find the movie and buy it a few days before Thanksgiving and ive been i in love ever since!!

2. Who is your favorite character?: i think it is obvious by now that my fave is none other than Phillip Carlyle! he holds a soft spot in my heart; however, i absolutely adore lettie, charity, anne, and phin as well.

3. What are your canon and fanon ships?: i love love love phinity n carwheeler!! as for fanon ships, barlyle is my number one ship (and the main one i do anything with), but i am also quite fond of phillip/phineas/charity and charity/lettie!

4. What's your favorite TGS song?: oh goodness um,,, all of them !!!!! if i had to choose, it would be either The Other Side, From Now On, or Tightrope.

5. Are you a content creator?: yes!! my ao3 is rewrite_a_million_dreams (and i also post some art on The Greatest Showman Amino as jac🌸)

6. If General Tom Thumb and The Irish Giant got into a fight, who would win and how?: my money's on charles. he's a bamf

7. If you joined Barnum's circus, what would your act be?: im tragically talentless so i'd probs just,,, stand somewhere and sing off key

8. Favorite fanfiction trope or AU?: fire/ice au i love p much all of the aus!! im a slut for a good modern au tbh. vampire and werewolf aus are amazing too. my fave trope is definitely the cliches, like the soulmate au where your colorblind until you meet your soulmate, or the slow burn friends-to-lovers!!

9. Do you have a non-tgs song that you associate with the film or tgs character?:

Phillip- Unsteady by X Ambassadors // Mama, come here, Approach, appear, Daddy, I'm alone, Cause this house don't feel like home

Phineas- Can I Be Him by James Arthur // You walked into the room and now my heart has been stolen, You took me back in time to when I was unbroken

10. What mythological creature would you add to the circus?: defo a dragon !!!

11. What's one of your favorite tgs headcanons?: i love the headcanon that Phin has ADHD. As someone with ADHD, it's really nice to see people portray a character that I love with is so accurately! I also really love the headcanon that Phil gets along so well with Caroline and Helen. It's so pure and I love how he looks out for them (and ties into the headcanon that they're living the childhood he never got to have, which makes him way anxious when they're acting rambunctious).

12. If you could ask any tgs character a question, who and what would it be?: I would ask Phillip: What made you say yes to meeting Phineas at the bar?

1. When did you first watch TGS?

January 1st 2018! I remember being sort of hesitant, but the second it started I was hooked—I was sitting on the edge of my seat bouncing up and down for the whole of The Other Side and when the music stopped before the final chorus I was devastated because I thought it was over!

2. Who is your favourite character?

That’s actually really hard for me to answer! If I’d been asked a couple of months back, I would have undoubtedly said P.T.—everything he does in the film just makes me smile and makes my heart warm (it sounds cheesy but it’s true!). Now, though, I’m having a tough time choosing between him and Phillip—each time I see TGS, the urge to give Flip a hug gets a little stronger. I’d probably still say P.T., but sometimes Phillip, depending on what mood I’m in.

3. What are your canon and fanon ships?

I’m super in love with the canon ships, both of which I think are brilliant. Aside from that, though, I’m a hardcore Barlyle shipper. I actually only really started shipping them when I showed my friend the film—when they were in the bar, she turned to me and said they look like they want to...—but I’ve been head-over-heels for this pairing ever since! Another ship I like is Charity/Phin/Phil, but as long as Charity is treated well in my Barlyle I’m all over that shit.

4. What’s your favourite TGS song?

Honestly? They’re all incredible! TGS is one of the few musicals where I genuinely love every single song. Having said that, I will always have a MASSIVE soft spot for The Other Side! The guitar part is fantastically reminiscent of percussion, especially at the beginning, the harmonies between P.T. and Phillip are impeccable, and the way they’re so in sync, both with finishing each other’s sentences while singing and just the entire scene? YES YES YES A MILLION TIMES YES. Honestly though I could yell about all the songs for years DM me anytime!!

5. Are you a content creator?

Yup yup! My work is predominantly fic, although I very occasionally doodle pictures as well! My fic uploading is rather sporadic, because my motivation is best represented by tsunamis and calm seas, rather than a constantly-flowing river, but I’m still just gonna link my AO3 here: https://archiveofourown.org/users/jackpip

6. If General Tom Thumb and The Irish Giant got into a fight, who would win and how?

Probably Charles! I’m not sure how exactly, but he seems rather ruthless—I, for one, would be afraid around his pistol.

7. If you joined Barnum’s circus, what would your act be?

Hopefully something musical! I play a lot of instruments, and the opportunity to do something along those lines would be awesome. Failing that, I’m super loose-jointed and can do all sorts of weird things with my thumbs and wrists in particular that would definitely get a reaction from an audience!

8. Favourite fanfiction trope or AU?

I’m a sucker for modern AUs! Literally anything in a modern setting, and I’m sold—bonus points if it’s more subtle anachronisms that give the time period away than a direct statement. Also, I’m not sure if it’s a trope as such, but I adore hurt/comfort where one plays with the other’s hair to soothe them! We need more Phil comforting Phin in the world.

9. Do you have a non-TGS song that you associate with the film or a TGS character?

HOLY. SHIT. I have so many, especially for Barlyle! I literally made a playlist. Some highlights include:

Broadripple Is Burning (Margot & The Nuclear So and So’s): “And, darling, I’m lost, and everything that I have loved has turned to stone, so pack your bags and come back home.”

I Was Drunk (Margot & The Nuclear So and So’s): “And I sing to you, whisper the secrets you already knew, and I’m begging ‘Please reconsider and come back home to me’ ‘cause we’ll all be dead quite soon.”

3 Rounds and a Sound (Blind Pilot): “I was swimming; my eyes were dark ‘til you woke me and told me that opening is just the start. It was.”

And this one just makes me think of Phillip (even just from the title alone) and Phin comforting him so much:

Don’t Let Them See You Cry (Manchester Orchestra): “So breathe, while you’re alive. Let the big band play as you tap leather with your fingers. And I tried to write in style, but the words just come and I write them soon as I see them.”

I could talk about music and Barlyle songs forever, though! That’s literally two of my favourite things combined

10. What mythological creature would you add to the circus?

I’m not entirely sure! Probably a pegasus—I can imagine some impressive routines involving one of those and the elephants.

11. What’s one of your favourite TGS headcanons?

There are so many! One of my favourites is that Phillip is so particular with his hair because it was one of the few things he could still exercise control over when he was still living with his parents. As a result, whenever anyone messes it up, he feels off-kilter and rather panicky until he can fix it again—after years and years, it had become a coping mechanism of sorts. Having said that, Phineas thinks he looks positively adorable with ruffled bed hair, and Phillip is slowly growing more comfortable with not doing his hair until just before he leaves the house, as opposed to waking up early to do so before Phineas joins him.

Other headcanons I love include Phineas having ADHD, Bisexual!Phil having a lot of trouble coming to terms with his sexuality and occasionally wobbling I absolutely have to write about that one day (I’m absolutely not projecting whatsoever shsksj), and platonic soulmates Phin and Charity/Anne and Phil!

12. If you could ask any TGS character a question, who and what would it be?

That’s super tricky! I’d probably ask P.T. where he got the lamp he gave Caroline from, or how he made it, because I absolutely adore it! Failing that, I’d straight-up ask Phillip for a hug because 9 times out of 10 that would 100% cheer me up shsksj

BONUS: Link/share one of your favourite TGS fanfictions or pieces of fanart!

There are so many incredible artists and writers in this fandom, and I really, genuinely enjoy every piece of content I come across!

I think, in terms of fanart, my favourite piece is anything done by @themissingmask —he was my secret santa on the TOSdiscord server and did an absolutely phenomenal job! <3

Regarding fanfiction, I have three favourites: Just A Dead Man Walking by braille_upon_my_skin, Peanut Swells by @silverlynxx and And The Walls Are Closing In by @circus-playwright. All of them are hurt/comfort, but in different ways—I read Braille’s when I’m at my lowest, Lynxx’s makes me smile because of the interactions between P.T. and Caroline, and the last one is just some good, good Phin angst with Phillip comforting him (something I believe there should be a lot more of in the world!). <3<3<3

1. When did you first watch TGS?

It was sometime mid January, 2018. I kept my ticket when I saw TGS in the cinema, but I don’t know which viewing that was between my 1st and 6th!

2. Who is your favourite character?

Phillip Carlyle - PT is definitely the beloved rags to riches underdog, but Phillip came storming in with his heart of gold and sassy eyebrows and that was it.

3. What are your canon and fanon ships?

I think all the canon ships were very well developed; you had the long and devoted Phinty slowburn and the passionate love at first sight Carlwheeler romance, but my fanon ship is most definitely Barlyle, because there’s enough chemistry between them to choke an elephant.

4. What’s your favourite TGS song?

I love them all, but From Now On is my soul anthem.

5. Are you a content creator?

I am! I primarily write fanfiction (you can find me on ao3), but I also dabble with drawings, moodboards, and not so serious edits. I would really love to do a film/music edit in future as well.

6. If General Tom Thumb and The Irish Giant got into a fight, who would win and how?

My money’s on Charles, he’d take Vasile out by the stilts and show no remorse. Vasile in my mind is the kind of guy who patiently waits for ducks to cross his path so he doesn’t startle them.

7. If you joined Barnum’s circus, what would your act be?

Unless my dancing or pole work had vastly improved, I’d probably be in management or administration.

8. Favourite fanfiction trope or au?

There are far too many AUs to choose from! But I am fond of my wing au, cause flying feathery bois is just too cute. Barnum would totally suit peacock plummage, fight me.

Off the top of my head I also love bed sharing tropes or enemies/reluctant partners to friends to lovers.

9. Do you have a non-tgs song that you associate with the film or tgs character?

At the moment, Kodaline’s “Follow your fire” gives me very strong barlyle feels, especially the chorus;

I always saw you reaching and catching stars

We had the thing that everyone wanted

Hung on your sleeve, you wore your heart on it

10. What mythological creature would you add to the circus?

Oooh, there’s so many Barnum would have a field day with...but no one will believe me if I don’t say centaur.

11. What’s one of your favourite tgs headcanons?

I really like the idea that PT lowkey acclimatises Phillip to casual touches and physical contact around the circus. After being raised in and restricted by the cold and suffocating contraints of class propriety, it comes as a shock to Phillip to realise he craves praise and physical contact, neither of which he’s short of anymore thanks to his circus family (touch and praise starvation ahoy!)

12. If you could ask any tgs character a question, who and what would it be?

Ah tricky, erm...I’d probably ask Charity the secret to such a strong and time-tested relationship (i.e. how does one keep such a rambunctious husband in line??).

Fanart: These Illustrations by mattariusagi - but the tgs fandom is absolutely riddled with amazing artists, illustrators, editors and the like; there’s about 7 moodboards I’d have tacked here given half a chance ahaha

Fanfiction: Gonna send the flood, gonna drown them out by Braille_upon_my_skin - Always a go-to author. I have many many favoured fanfictions by so many writers, but this one stood out when browsing for this question (:

Barlyle Fanfic-writers Appreciation Post

I just wanna say thanks to all the people who’ve written or are writing fanfiction for this amazing ship.

^That was one month ago, with the first Phillip Carlyle/P.T Barnum fanfic posted on January 1st.

Just a month later, there’s 35. I check for new fanfics at least every hour, and I love seeing new content on ao3 and on tumblr, honestly you guys just make my day with this stuff. It’s great seeing not only an amazing movie like TGS turn into a complete fandom, but the creation of ships, such as carwheeler and of course barlyle. Two subjects of a movie evolved together through fanfic, fanart, headcanons, edits, etc, and it’s just been really cool to see that develop. But, I mean, yeah, it’s fanfiction, but still, I love it, and I love you writer and creator people, thank you.
