Enhance Your Home with Residential Epoxy Flooring in Toronto
Transforming your home's flooring can significantly elevate its aesthetic appeal, durability, and overall value. Among the plethora of options available, residential epoxy flooring stands out as a remarkable choice for homeowners in Toronto seeking both functionality and style. Whether you're looking to revamp your living space or upgrade your basement, epoxy flooring offers a versatile solution that combines beauty with resilience.
Tumblr media
Epoxy flooring is a durable coating composed of resin and hardeners that, when mixed, create a tough, glossy surface. This seamless application not only enhances the visual appeal of your floors but also provides exceptional protection against stains, cracks, and abrasions. In a bustling city like Toronto, where weather extremes and heavy foot traffic are common, having a resilient flooring solution is essential for maintaining the pristine condition of your home.
One of the primary advantages of residential epoxy flooring is its versatility in design. With an extensive range of colors, patterns, and finishes available, homeowners have the freedom to customize their floors according to their unique preferences and interior décor. Whether you prefer a sleek, modern look or a more rustic aesthetic, epoxy flooring can be tailored to complement any style, enhancing the overall ambiance of your home.
Beyond its visual appeal, epoxy flooring offers practical benefits that make it an ideal choice for residential spaces. Its seamless installation creates a smooth surface that is easy to clean and maintain, making it particularly well-suited for high-traffic areas such as kitchens, hallways, and family rooms. Unlike traditional flooring options like carpet or hardwood, epoxy floors are resistant to moisture, making them an excellent choice for basements and laundry rooms where spills and humidity are common.
Moreover, epoxy flooring is highly durable and long-lasting, capable of withstanding heavy loads and daily wear and tear without losing its luster. This durability translates to cost savings over time, as homeowners can enjoy their beautiful epoxy floors for years to come without the need for frequent repairs or replacements. In a city like Toronto, where the housing market is competitive, investing in durable, low-maintenance flooring can increase the resale value of your home and attract potential buyers.
Another significant advantage of epoxy flooring is its eco-friendliness compared to traditional flooring materials. Epoxy coatings are low in volatile organic compounds (VOCs), making them a safer and more sustainable option for indoor environments. Additionally, epoxy floors can be installed directly over existing concrete substrates, eliminating the need for demolition and reducing waste—a key consideration for environmentally-conscious homeowners in Toronto.
When considering residential epoxy flooring in Toronto, it's essential to choose a reputable provider with a track record of excellence in installation and customer satisfaction. Working with experienced professionals ensures that your epoxy floors are applied correctly, maximizing their durability and longevity. Additionally, reputable contractors can offer valuable guidance in selecting the right epoxy system for your specific needs, ensuring optimal results that exceed your expectations.
residential epoxy flooring offers Toronto homeowners a winning combination of style, durability, and practicality. Whether you're renovating your entire home or simply updating a single room, epoxy flooring provides a versatile solution that enhances both the aesthetics and functionality of your space. BASEMENT RENOVATIONS
Almost every home in Toronto has a basement. Unfortunately, many are unfinished, or have been renovated previously by DIYs and have not been done properly; it is common to see poorly insulated basements with illegal electrical and plumbing work, along with many other deficiencies. Renovating your basement with the same attention to details as the rest of your home will add vital functional living space and increase much needed storage and utility areas.
The most common attraction to renovating a basement is adding an additional bathroom. Space is abundant, so large bathrooms can be added with elements perhaps not appropriate in the other bathrooms of the house. Whether it’s a large tub, sauna, or walk in shower, it can be a treat and definitely add value to the home.

Basement Renovation Cost & Basement Finishing in Toronto, Montreal
Tumblr media
What does a Basement Renovation & Basement Finishing Cost in 2020 in Toronto & Montreal? Basement renovations are often the most cost-effective way to add more casual living space for your family because you can use the existing foundation and structure, and the overall cost per square foot will be less and choosing to opt for a home addition. They tend to cost between $35 and $70 per square foot, but can vary depending on your requirements. In this article, you’ll see where that money goes.
Time for a basement renovation? Here’s a cost breakdown
When planning on going through with a basement renovation, your first step is to think about what you want to do with the space. Your basement has so much potential, so it can easily be a really interesting project. Once you’ve figured out what you want to get done, determine whether or not some walls will need to be put up or not. They’ll allow you to separate the space and create multiple rooms. On average, we’ve noticed that putting up a wall costs about $2,000/wall,  for which it’s recommended to use gypsum. It helps soundproof the space, is fairly resistant and will allow your basement contractor to sand and paint it the way you’d like. Quotes will differ from one contractor to another, as will the services they’re qualified to provide. Plan your budget based on your desired outcome. Depending on your location, here are the average prices you can expect to pay: Basement Elements Greater Montreal Average Costs (2020) Greater Toronto  Average Costs (2020) Turnkey (without bathroom) $20,600 to $36,000+ $24,700 to $41,000+ Bathroom $8,000 to $20,600 $10,000 to $23,690 Walls & Joint Sealing Gypsum: $2/sq.ft. + $1,500 for joints Gypsum: $3/sq.ft. + $1,800 for joints Ceiling $3.00 to $5.00/sq.ft. $3.60 to $6.20/sq.ft. Insulation $1.50 to $3.00/sq.ft. $2.10 to $3.60/sq.ft. Flooring $4.50 to $7.50/sq.ft $5.25 to $8.70/sq.ft.
What does a turnkey basement renovation include?
A turnkey basement consists in stripping your basement back to its original, bare state (i.e. removing walls, flooring, etc.) and re-doing it. This means putting up new walls, insulating the walls adjacent to the foundation, adding a gypsum ceiling, putting in some flooring, sealing joints, and painting the entire basement. Some basement renovations also include getting custom cabinetry and furnishing made. If you choose to add a bathroom to a basement that never had one, to begin with, you’ll certainly need to add extra costs to that.   Adding a bathroom in the basement If you’ve opted to get a bathroom installed in your basement, chances are your contractor will need to demolish part of your concrete slab (foundation) to get some pipes through to the basement. Depending on the way your home is built, the entire process can be lengthy and quite costly. It might cost you an additional $3,500 to your basement reno. However, if you already had a bathroom in your basement and you just want to remodel it, the original piping should work just fine. Of course, what you choose to put in your bathroom will dictate the overall cost of the renovation. Are you looking to add a custom-made bathroom? Maybe a clawfoot tub? Or custom cabinetry made of a particular material? Possibilities are endless when it comes to renovating a bathroom. On average, adding a small-sized bathroom to your basement will cost an additional $8,000 to $15,000 (depending on factors like materials, furnishing, etc.) to your overall basement renovation. Conversely, a bathroom on the main floor will cost anywhere between $10,000 and $23,000. Painting  Painting always goes according to the space’s square footage. It’s calculated by labour hours and the quantity of paint used. We’re used to seeing basements being painted for anywhere between $1,000 and $1,600. Ceiling When it comes to closing up the ceiling, there are 3 options available to you: Gypsum ceiling at $2 to $3/sq.ft. Suspended ceiling: $5/sq.ft. Architectural ceiling: $7+/sq.ft. You can also take a look at soundproofing your ceiling before closing it up. Flooring The floor is a very important element in any basement remodel. Depending on the material you choose, it’ll give a specific look and feel to your basement. Most people tend toward getting hardwood flooring as it gives a nice, sophisticated look. It is, however, on the more costly side going for about $10+/sq.ft. Before putting a hardwood floor, you’ll need to be sure there is no water infiltration, nor any humidity issues. You can also get floating flooring installed to ensure your floor doesn’t buckle. Although not so popular, some will opt for getting carpeting installed. Carpet would work well if you plan on putting in a children’s playroom, to muffle sound and keep them comfortable while they play. However, like with hardwood, be mindful of the risk of humidity or water infiltration issues. Carpet fibers are more likely to retain humidity, which would lead to mold or other humidity-based issues.
A basement renovation cost summary
As mentioned, the overall cost of your basement renovation will depend on what you put into it. On average, we’ve estimated that a basement renovation can cost anywhere between $20,000 and $35,000. It’s important to note that, for security reasons, if you choose to add a bedroom in the basement, the room will absolutely need a window that will double as an emergency exit. The cost of putting in a window can be around $2,000, which includes cutting a hole in the wall and installing a new window. Take note: if you have water infiltration or other basement humidity issues, it’s important to take care of that before undergoing your basement renovation. If not, you’ll end up having to redo your basement twice (double the cost), all while getting costly repairs done because of the damage done by the humidity/water.
Save on your basement renovation cost: think 10 years ahead
Chances are that you won’t want to do your basement twice, so it’s best to anticipate what your future life is going to look like. Will you need a playroom for kids or grandkids? There are so many ways to remodel a basement other than a traditional rec room. Knowing what you want will help you average out what your overall basement finishing or renovations costs.   Read the full article

The Kitchen Renovation Doesn't Have to Be As Painful As You Might Think
Tumblr media
You've reached your own personal tipping point: the toaster won't work when the coffeemaker's on, you're down to one working burner on your stove, only one person can be in the kitchen at a time so your family eats in shifts, and finally the microwave blew on the morning of your big presentation at work, and you decided, "Enough is enough. We need a new, functional kitchen!"
You're not alone. Usually everyone has a particular tipping point; that one last thing that sends them into the renovation pool. You try to hold on for as long as you can because you're dreading the noise, the dust, the inconvenience and the disruption to your daily life. When your space becomes unusable, it's time to do something. But you can't just jump into a renovation, particularly one as costly, time consuming and inconvenient as a kitchen renovation, you need a well thought out plan of attack if you're going to pull it off in the quickest amount of time with the least amount of inconvenience and expense.
Start by developing a Design Plan: A renovation will only be as successful as the research and planning that's put into it. Like any business proposal you develop for work, you need to have a clear goal of what you want to achieve with the renovation. Do you yearn for updated electrical wiring, maximizing storage space, adding an eating area, appliances that work?
You can start by popping into kitchen renovation stores to look at the latest available features in kitchen design. Speak to the staff, tell them you're at the beginning of your journey and see if they have any ideas for you.
Cut out photos of kitchens you love from magazines and put them in a folder. Identify why you like the kitchens you've chosen - is it the space? The lighting? The colour? The style of cabinetry or countertops? It is even helpful to give your designer images of things you definitely do not like. That way they won't propose those very things in your dream kitchen. When you determine what you really want, it will help your kitchen designer draw up the plans that suit you.
If you have a friend who's recently renovated her kitchen, take pictures and identify what you like about it as well and stick it in the folder with your other pictures.
Toronto architect Jacqueline Rhee says that when she sits down with potential clients and they say to her, "Design us something gorgeous," she has to explain that they aren't giving her enough information. She says, "What their idea of 'gorgeous' is and what I might have in mind could very well be two different things. Maybe they want French Country, but I have an idea that they might prefer a sleek contemporary kitchen." The more direction clients can give their designer about their likes, dislikes and what their goals for the space are, the better the design can live up to their expectations.
Budget: The good news regarding a kitchen renovation is that it tends to be a good investment. The Appraisal Institute of Canada estimates that a kitchen renovation will return 75-100% of your investment if you were to turn around and sell your home. However, the sky is never the limit, even for Donald Trump. Just as you would plan your company's annual marketing budget, you need to develop a budget for your kitchen renovation. A general rule of thumb for how much to spend on a kitchen renovation is up to 10-15% of the value of your home. But don't feel like you have to spend that much; if you can do more with less, do it. For example, if your cabinets are in the right location and sturdy but just tired and outdated, consider refacing them. Refacing comes in at about 50-75% of the cost of new custom cabinetry.
Hiring a Kitchen Company and/or Contractor: Most people hire a contractor or kitchen designer through word of mouth. If you've been to a friend's recently renovated house and you like what you see, start asking questions: Who did the work? Did you work well together? Was he on time and on budget? Is the end result what you expected? Was he well-organized or did you scramble to get finishes at the last minute? Were there any major problems during construction, and if so, how did he handle them? If you liked the answers your friend gave you - assuming your friend isn't shell-shocked from the direct grilling she's just received - get his card. Now, find at least two other contractors and/or kitchen companies so you can compare quotes.
Meeting with the Designer and Contractor: If, while you're meeting with a designer or contractor, your gut tells you that no matter how great the work is you couldn't stand being in the same room with him for more than a minute, cross him off your list of candidates. You may have to meet with this person every day. If your personalities don't mix, you'll never be able to solve problems together. Likely, however, if you're getting that vibe, the contractor or designer is too; it's best to part ways before a relationship has begun.
If, on the other hand, your first meeting is fantastic and you're bowled over with his enthusiasm and ideas and you get along as if you'd known each other your entire lives, you still need to do your research. Ask him how many jobs he can handle at once and how many he has going currently and make sure he is bonded and insured.
Further necessary research - the internet is your new best friend: Researching kitchen companies and contractors has become a whole lot easier with the age of the internet. Now there are websites which are specifically focused on capturing word-of-mouth reviews from consumers online. If the companies you're interested in using don't have any reviews, you may want to look at other companies that do and compare their services. Also check out the company's website. If they don't have one, you have to wonder how professional they are.
Another tip you can try is entering the company's name in search engines like Google and Yahoo!. You may find some feedback people have posted on them on various forums. You can also post a question asking if anyone has ever used this company. Finally, check the references he or she gives you as well, talk to a few of his past clients and go see the work he or she did for them.
Once you've chosen your designer, contractor and/or kitchen company, get ready: Ask yourself if you can live through the renovation by setting up a second kitchen in the garage or basement. Do you have toddlers who would be better off away from the construction site? Make arrangements to be out of the house for a specific amount of time and make sure that you and your project team have discussed the most reasonable move-out and move-in dates.
Did you have to factor furniture storage into your budget or can it be wrapped and stored on site? Again, your contractor will tell you which is the best option depending on the size of the job and your storage space availability on site.
During the renovation: Assumptions: One of the breakdowns in communication between homeowner and contractor is in assumptions made by one party or the other. For instance, one woman had purchased bathroom sinks and fixtures for a brand new home. The contractor saw that the powder room fixture would be outfitted with separate taps and a faucet and so drilled three holes in all the sinks because he assumed that all the fixtures were the same. Unfortunately, they weren't and the homeowner had to replace the other fixtures to match the holes.
But incorrect assumptions can just as easily be made by the homeowner. A homeowner handed a water filter kit to the contractor and asked him to install it. The homeowner had read on the box that the water filter was good for the whole house and could be fitted on the main water supply. When she returned at the end of the day, the contractor had installed it under the kitchen sink. She'd never told him where it was to go, she had just assumed that he knew it was meant for the entire house.
Problem solving: In any renovation, no matter how minor, there always seem to be unforeseen problems. It's not as surprising as you might think. What happens behind the walls stays behind them until they're ripped apart. Up until then, you might not know that the insulation used was actually newspaper, or that the plumbing went through the wall that needs to be demolished. How your contractor and you handle these problems depends on how proactive your contractor is.
During Sue and Leon's main floor renovation, the designer had called for the laundry room backsplash to consist of stainless steel tiles; beautiful, but at a cost of approximately $5,000. Sue balked. The contractor suggested instead a row of the tiles, two feet high, just behind the washer and dryer at a cost of $500. Sue was grateful that contractor made her aware of the costs and had an alternative suggestion for her.
The end result -- your dream space: Living through the dust, noise and strangers in your house for weeks to months on end can be tiring. Even though you get along well with the crew and your contractor, you can find your temper becoming short, particularly if there are delays during the project leading to prolonged construction. Recognize that delays are often unavoidable and that one day, you will be back in your home, the workers will be gone and your new beautiful kitchen will be all yours.
On-line Resources: This Old House: This website is a DIYer's dream. There are videos and tips on probably every aspect of renovating a kitchen. Kitchens.com: A wealth of information on everything you ever wanted to know about kitchens, including information on "greening your kitchen." Better Homes and Gardens has an extensive section on renovating your kitchen including an "inspiration gallery" to give you some ideas. The Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation: CMHC has an excellent website for any renovation or home purchase. The kitchen renovation area has downloadable charts you can use for reference guides as you go about your renovation planning. Appraisal Institute www.homerenovationvancouver.ca  of Canada: The Renova section of this website allows you to input the cost of your renovation and it will calculate how much of a return you would receive if you sold your home.

When it Comes to Roofing, Beware DIY Repair
Tumblr media
Most homeowners know that regular maintenance is key if they want their house to be comfortable and maintain its resale value. This is especially true for those who live in the Greater Toronto Area, where snowy winters and humid summers place great strain on single-family homes.
Every season brings its own specific tasks, and once you’ve welcomed spring by cleaning your flowerbeds, putting in window screens, and fixing any winter damage, it’s time to start thinking about larger projects that can only be done during the warm summer months.
Given how hard Canadian winters can be on roofs in particular, many homeowners will be considering whether or not this is the summer to finally get around to replacing their aging roof with a one that is guaranteed to keep the rain out for decades to come.
Re-roofing a house is a complicated process, and one that involves significant financial investment in materials. For this reason, some homeowners may be tempted to take it on themselves as their big DIY project of the summer.
While this can seem like a smart way to save money, the truth is that roofing is one of those jobs best left to the professionals. If you want to take advantage of the summer months to replace your current roof, here are four reasons why you shouldn’t try to do it yourself:
1. It’s Harder Than It Looks
It can be easy to look at a roofing job and wonder if it is really as difficult as all that. After all, doesn’t it just involve removing the old shingles and replacing them with new ones? Like many household renovation projects, roofing is theoretically straightforward but difficult in practice. First, you need to decide what roofing materials you want to use. Should you install simple three-tab shingles or more advanced roofing materials like laminated shingles that will cost more, but offer better performance and extend your roof’s lifespan in the long run? This decision will have a major impact on the total cost of your project, and one of the benefits of having a professional take care of the job for you is that they will have a much better understanding of where costs can be cut in ways that won’t compromise the integrity of your roof. When it comes to installing the roof itself, not only do you need to have basic knowledge about using tools like roofing spades, nail guns, chalk lines, and hammer-tackers, you also need to understand how roofing materials like asphalt shingles, tar paper, and ice and water shield are applied and what purposes they serve. Furthermore, you need to understand how to work around dormer windows, and valleys — not to mention roof vents, plumbing stacks, and chimneys. And then there are all the little problems that crop up along the way, which can present a challenge even to experienced roofers (what to do, for example, if you discover that parts of the roof deck have sustained heavy water damage, or that the chimney needs to have new flashing installed?). Finally, you don’t just have to worry about purchasing materials and having them delivered to your house. You also have to figure out how you are going to dispose of waste. Most roofs generate quite a bit of garbage, and you will need to rent an industrial sized bin and arrange to have it disposed of. If this sounds like a lot to keep track of, that’s because it is. Fortunately, Professional Roofers is here for you — from selecting and delivering materials to handling the installation and removing the garbage when the job is done, we take care to make sure the work is done right every step of the way.
2. Replacing a Roof is Dangerous
Every year, homeowners are injured and even killed due to accidents on their roofs. Even a simple job like cleaning gutters or removing fallen branches can be risky, but when you are spending all day moving heavy materials onto a pitched roof, the chances of an accident increase exponentially. For this reason, beware oversimplified DIY YouTube videos — there are lots of things that can go wrong when you are on the roof, which is why roofers are trained to use safety equipment that will protect them in the event of a fall or accident. Don’t take chances with your wellbeing just to install a new roof: go with the experts who know how to do the work safely as well as efficiently.
3. Incorrect Installation Can Put Your House at Risk
It isn’t just your own safety that you have to watch out for when replacing your roof: an improperly installed roof can put your entire house at risk. This is because the roof is an essential component of the entire system of the house, and issues with the roof are bound to translate into larger problems with the entire structure. For example, one of the most important things a roof system does is channel water away from the home — the shingles make sure it flows off the roof, the gutters keep it from falling close to the foundation, and the downspouts transfer it safely away from your foundation. If any of these components are improperly installed, not only is your roof deck in danger, excess water can end up pooling beside your walls, seeping into the soil, and threatening the integrity of your foundation. If the problem is not addressed, this can eventually lead to basement flooding. Good drainage is important for your entire house, and good drainage starts with your roof. In order to install a roof properly, therefore, you need to understand how all the components work together to manage water flow. Knowing where the stress points are on a roof is essential to providing the extra protection that is needed, and it is also important to know how good roof installation can help combat problems like ice damming and attic condensation. This means accessing the kind of expert knowledge that only professionals can bring to the job. If you want to know more about how your roof system works, get your questions answered by roofing professionals who have experience working with a variety of different roof types, and can help you avoid mistakes that can cause a lot of problems with other parts of your home down the road.
4. DIY Roof Installation Can Impact Resale Value
Most professional roofers will be able to tell you at least one story about a nightmare job where they had to replace a roof that had been installed by a homeowner. These roofs are full of surprises: shingles nailed down incorrectly, too much (or not enough) flashing along with dormer windows and valleys, incorrectly applied caulking, insufficient ventilation and even — in the worst cases — situations where the previous homeowner simply roofed over the old shingles. When shopping for a home, people are rightly wary of roofs that were not professionally installed, and even if you believe you have done the job correctly, the simple fact that you did not hire a contractor can raise red flags for some appraisers and buyers. For this reason, it’s best not to take chances with the future value of your home — call us today to get more information about how you can get your home re-roofed by experts who know how to deliver quality workmanship. Our team of roofers will apply their extensive knowledge of how best to replace shingle roofs and flat roofs alike to make sure that your next roof is one that will continue to raise the value of your home for years to come. One of the great pleasures of owning your own home lies in improving it — taking a space and making it your own, and in the process learning how all the different components come together to create a functional, comfortable, and attractive living space. DIY work not only makes renovations more affordable, for many homeowners it is a labour of love. But there are limits to what DIY projects most homeowners can reasonably attempt on their own. Just as it would be foolish to try to re-wire your house on your own, trying to replace your own roof is simply not worth the risks involved. Instead, call Professional Roofers for an appraisal today. Our roofing experts will help you decide what repairs are needed and can provide you with detailed information as to what the best approach will be. Best of all, we will take care of the job from start to finish, so you don’t have to worry about a thing. Get in touch today, and find out just how easy getting a new roof can be!

10 Home Renovation Ideas with the Best Return on Investment (ROI)
A 2021 report revealed that the pandemic has dramatically changed how Canadians consider home renovation. In 2021, over 50% of people living in the country renovated their homes they were living in, and just 16% of Canadians renovated particularly to boost the market value of their home. However, around 60% of the survey participants stated that they considered return on investment (ROI), regardless of the main reason behind home renovation.
So, if you are lately planning to give your house for sale in Mississauga a makeover, what kind of jobs should you consider? Based on the data collected in the survey, it differed substantially by market. Having said that, there are several projects that are worth considering, irrespective of your location. Below are 10 home renovation ideas with the best return on investment.
Kitchen:  The study showed that kitchen-specific renovations, including kitchen countertop upgrades, are one of the top three renovations with the best return on investment in 27 of the 31 housing markets surveyed. Typically, kitchen renovations offer a return on investment (ROI) of 75% to 100%.
Paint:  A fresh coat of paint is certainly an inexpensive way to enhance the value of your house in Hamilton. It was found to be one of the top three renovations for the highest return ROI in 18 of the 31 property markets surveyed in the study, including Greater Toronto Area (GTA). Usually, fresh paint offers you a return on investment of up to 60%. However, this may require you to take care of two things: the job should be done professionally and neatly, and the colours you pick shouldn’t be overly bright.
Bathroom:  A bathroom renovation is perhaps one of the best types of renovations you can do to a house for sale in Milton as it typically offers an ROI of up to 62%. The survey revealed that it was one among the top three ROI-based renovations in 17 property markets, including Vancouver and Toronto. If you are not sure where to begin with bathroom renovations, you should look for the section your eyes are drawn to as soon as you enter your bathtub – it could be the shower, tile backsplash, or even a window!
Flooring:  New flooring was among the top three renovations, specific to return on investment in 14 of the 31 property markets included in the study. As long as you manage to avoid any fundamental flooring mistakes, new flooring can give you a return on investment of 100% to 150%. The key to a fantastic floor is less about the material and more about the quality of installation. Hence, it’s best to get it done by experienced professionals.
Basement:  In the study, a finished basement was considered as one among the top three renovations for ROI in 5 of the 31 housing markets surveyed. However, that doesn’t mean you have to give your basement a complete revamp. If you are unsure how you can add value to your home for sale in Hamilton without exhaustive renovations, understand that anything that would allow the future owner of your house to save dollars over time, like ways to prevent the basement from flooding, should be your top priority. Such renovations generally offer a return on investment of around 75%.
Open Concept Rooms:  Open concept rooms were one of the top three ROI-focused renovations in three property markets across Canada, including Edmonton and Calgary, in the study. Such a design helps enhance flow and allows the room to appear more spacious, making it an ideal choice for small houses in Hamilton. However, be careful about removing walls in the area where people work from home as they may prefer having a separate room to be used as their home-based office.
New Roof:  In the study, a new roof was one among the top three renovations with respect to value addition to a home in two housing markets, viz., Winnipeg and Victoria. A new roof can give you a return on investment of up to 75%. Given the cost of installing a new roof – which is usually less than $5,000 – it makes sense to replace the roof if the existing one is in the last stage of its life.
Landscaping:  This was one of the top three home renovations for ROI in two property markets in the study, including Barrie and Ottawa. In other housing markets as well, it was considered as one of the easiest ways to impart a modern look to the exterior of your home and enhance its appeal. The key is to remove clutter, which allows the new homeowner to have enough opportunity to give a personal touch to the garden area.
Exterior Upgrades:  In the study, exterior upgrades were found to be one among the top renovations for ROI in just one housing market, i.e., Muskoka. Having said that, since such upgrades are usually not quite pricey and can still offer a return of investment of nearly 50%, they are worth considering. A substandard job related to exterior upgrades such as siding, gutters, or trims can lower the curb appeal of your home for sale in Milton, Mississauga; so it is best to leave it in the hands of experts.
New Windows:  In only one housing market, i.e., Muskoka, the survey found that new windows were one of the top three ROI-oriented home renovations. Interestingly, windows are one of the items that can help the new owners save a lot of money in the long run as they can offer an ROI of up to 75%. If it is time to replace the windows, you should ideally invest in high-quality, energy-saving options.

Home Renovations Errors When Made Without a Professional Contractor
Tumblr media
MeasurementsReducing Material OrdersProfessional EffortsBudget That Is Not RealisticFlooring TypesStyle of Residence
Often, a homeowner thinks that his home renovation project can be done without the help of professionals. It doesn't matter if you're very handy and know a lot about how work is done around the house. We strongly recommend hiring a professional home renovation company for your project because many people make mistakes when they try to renovate their homes independently. We understand that you want to save money by thinking that everything can be done if you work hard enough. But bigger renovations can go wrong for homeowners, and you could spend twice as much money fixing something that wasn't done right in the first place. We do this every day, and we know what could go wrong with a home renovation project. You will save money, time, and a lot of stress by hiring an NYCO Home renovation company for your home improvement project. You will be very happy with the results as well. If you decide to do the reno yourself, make sure you know everything you need to know about the process and get a second opinion from professionals before you start. We won't charge you for ideas.
Throughout the job's duration, measurements will be required for ordering, prepping, and cutting material. Your precise measurements may be missing important elements that skilled house renovators memorize without information. Small details like providing room for the flooring to expand in high temperatures or adding extra drywall to cover connections or holes in the walls that may need to be repaired may result in delays and additional costs.
Many homeowners are unaware that professional home renovation contractors in Toronto, such as NYCO Renovation, collaborate with suppliers and maintain business accounts with them. Therefore, ordering more material is not an issue since it can be returned after completing the home repair project. Homeowners who do the work themselves must exercise caution to avoid buying excessive finishing material and double delivery charges.
If you've worked in the trades, there's no question that your finish work will be exceptional, but if this is your first time renovating a property, you may run into difficulties. Consider the NYCO Renovation gallery and compare the photographs to previous house renovations and enhancements. We are in this company because we are the best in Canada and are proud of the appearance of our completed projects.
Knowing how much the supplies will cost and establishing an overall budget. We've seen several customers abandon plans to begin home improvement projects after learning the true cost of labour, supplies, and delivery. The worst-case scenario is that you anticipate spending $20.000 on renovations and running out of money halfway through.
While you may prefer one kind of flooring, are you certain it will function well in your home? Is your basement damp, and will the hardwood reappear a few weeks after installation? Is carpeting a wise option for your pet-filled home? Numerous variables must be considered before picking the correct flooring type. Conduct a study before deciding on a floor type.
Few homeowners know current design trends and styles that might improve their property. Engage a designer to assist you in determining what is possible. NYCO Renovations can link you with a designer who can provide your house or apartment layouts. There is no use in renovating if you will not perform an excellent job.

Electrical InstallationsPermitsNot Considering Safety
As you are probably aware, there will be a great deal of electrical work at your house. You may even need to upgrade your electrical system to provide more outlets and lights around the property. If electrical connections and wiring are not completed correctly and covered with drywall, you will need to dismantle the structure to repair it. Simple electrical errors might result in a fire or electrocution. By law, most electrical work must be performed by a licensed expert.
Ensure that you get all appropriate permissions before beginning large home improvements, such as adding a bathroom or modifying structural walls. All licensed contractors already have connections in the city for obtaining needed permits. If you continue with the project without obtaining consent from municipal inspectors, you may face penalties if discovered.
When renovating a house without the assistance of a professional, occupational dangers and safety measures are usually never addressed. Simply because you do not do this task daily, you may be unaware of the risks linked with construction work, from small cuts and bruises to electrocutions and the use of hazardous substances such as lead and silica. Ascertain that all work is planned and precautions are taken to secure you and your home.
