IV.   BIOGRAPHY.

raised  by  a  rider  family,  waverly  always  knew  she  was  destined  to  be  a  rider.  from  a  young  age,  she  watched  with  envy  as  both  her  parents  &  both  her  older  brothers  experienced  the  inexplicable  bond  between  a  dragon  &  its  rider  &  she  always  knew  that  that’s  what  she  wanted.  growing  up,  people  often  told  her  she  should  plan  for  something  else  instead  --  she  was  tender-hearted,  empathetic,  &  soft,  &  everyone  insisted  that  those  qualities  wouldn’t  make  a  good  rider.  in  response,  she  simply  held  her  head  higher,  shutting  them  all  out  &  leaning  on  her  family’s  support  to  chase  her  own  dreams.  she  didn’t  spend  her  childhood  training  to  be  a  rider,  however.  her  interest  in  being  a  rider  is  one  thousand  percent  about  an  insatiable  admiration  &  need  to  appreciate  a  dragon  up  close  &  wanting  to  experience  that  bonding,  &  has  literally  nothing  to  do  with  the  thrill,  the  stakes,  the  gore,  or  the  power  that  comes  with  being  a  rider.  all  of  those  things  are  moreso  the  negatives  in  waverly’s  brain,  the  things  she  has  to  ‘tough  it  out’  through  in  order  to  achieve  her  dreams  of  seeing  the  world  through  the  clouds.  for  that  reason,  much  to  the  quadrant’s  dismay  after  her  two  stellar  rider  brothers  have  passed  through,  waverly  isn’t  much  of  a  fighter  &  has  continuously  come  out  on  the  bottom  in  every  way  that  counts  so  far  in  basgiath.  she  barely  made  it  across  the  parapet,  i  imagine  she  was  one  of  the  last  few,  limbs  trembling  &  collapsed  once  she  got  across...  but  she  still  made  it  !  where  she  lacks  in  brawn,  she  makes  up  for  in  dedication.  she  works  hard  in  her  classes  to  learn  all  she  can  about  being  a  rider,  &  volunteers  at  every  opportunity  to  take  on  more  duties  or  more  learning.  she’s  optimistic  about  it  all,  despite  the  fact  that  she’s  literally....  getting  &  going  to  get  the  crap  pummeled  out  of  her  &  has  a  very  slim  chance  of  survival  but  tbh  she  thinks  the  chance  of  bonding  with  a  dragon  is  worth  it. 

personality - wise,  she’s  like  a  ray  of  sunshine  that  doesn’t  know  when  to  stop.  she’s  like  prim  everdeen  crying  over  that  mean  cat....  &  she  probably  barfs  at  the  things  she  sees  at  basgiath  even  more  than  violet  did  tbh...  but  she’s  also  captain  america  getting  the  shit  kicked  out  of  him  &  then  standing  up  &  being  like  ‘i  could  do  this  all  day !’  even  when  it’s  like  baby  no  you  really  can’t....  she’s  sensitive  but  hides  it,  both  out  of  fear  of  being  targeted  by  other  cadets  &  bc  fake  it  til  you  make  it.  in  the  same  vein,  she  can  be  super  naive  bc  she  just  genuinely  wants  to  see  the  best  in  ppl,  but  is  also  a  Paranoid  Pisces  so  like.  she’s  in  a  constant  dilemma  &  anxious  quite  a  lot  but  yanno  that’s  how  i  like  my  muses :  suffering < 3

IV.   BIOGRAPHY.

carmen  was  not  meant  to  be  a  rider  at  birth.  they  were  born  to  a  single  mother,  a  healer  who  considered  herself  meek  &  soft-spoken.  everyone  always  joked  that  they  had  no  clue  where  this  child  had  come  from,  all  lifted  chins  &  bared  teeth  &  reckless  ferocity.  &  yet  carmen  always  loved  their  mother  just  the  same,  never  thinking  less  of  the  fact  that  miss  jimenez  was  a  healer  even  though  carmen  always  knew  she  was  destined  for  more.  so  their  mother,  ever  the  people  pleaser,  allowed  carmen  to  train  from  as  young  as  ten  years  old  with  the  mindset  that  it’s  better  that  she  prepares  her  for  danger  than  trying  to  keep  her  from  it  &  getting  her  killed.  so  carmen  worked  as  hard  as  they  could,  every  day,  for  twelve  years  to  be  worthy  of  crossing  the  parapet  &  bonding  with  a  dragon.  it  almost  didn’t  happen,  as  right  before  carmen  was  meant  to  leave  for  basgiath,  her  mother  became  secretive  &  reclusive,  staying  up  late  &  looking  unwell,  as  if  the  life  had  been  sucked  out  of  her.  understandably,  carmen  grew  worried,  asking  repetitively  what  was  going  on  but  their  mother  kept  tight  lips,  said  little,  &  continued  encouraging  their  child  to  prepare  for  what  awaited  them.  now  that  carmen  is  here,  fully  immersed  in  the  rider’s  quadrant  &  eating,  sleeping,  &  breathing  this  life,  they’re  starting  to  wonder  if  perhaps  their  mother’s  elusiveness  has  to  do  with  something  that  might  put  her  in  danger,  but  with  the  tight  rules  about  outside  correspondence,  their  hands  are  tied.  they’re  trying  their  very  best  to  make  it  through  this  first  year,  although  they  have  full  confidence  that  they  will.  they’ve  prepared  every  waking  moment  for  the  last  decade  for  this,  although  they’re  having  a  hard  time  wrapping  their  head  around  all  the  death  that  surrounds  them  now  that  they’re  here.  they  always  knew  how  consistently  death  showed  his  face  in  basgiath,  but  with  every  person  carmen  kills  or  every  friend  she  watches  die  they  grow  angrier  &  angrier,  threatening  to  boil  over  at  any  given  moment.

personality  wise,  carmen  is  a  lot  like  their  media  inspirations.  they’re  very  johanna  mason  coded  --  cutthroat  when  they  need  to  be,  grief  manifesting  in  anger,  &  doesn’t  do  well  with  authority  figures  ( when  they’re  in  the�� wrong,  that  is ).  i  imagine  them  breaking  quite  a  few  rules  while  they’re  in  basgiath,  but  also  working  her  ass  off  to  get  where  she  needs  to  be  in  order  to  bond  a  dragon.  i  also  think  that  carmen  &  their  mother  both  are  probably  rebellion  sympathizers  but  obviously  that’s  not  common  knowledge  or  anything  they  would  verbalize,  but  just  something  that’s  been  bouncing  around  in  their  brain  since  they  are  kind  of  anti - authority  in  a  lot  of  ways.  also  she’s  very  much  an  act  first  think  later  type  person.  talk  shit  n  you  WILL  get  hit.  n  e  ways,  i’d  love  some  very  chaotic  things  for  my  very  chaotic  child !

V.   WANTED  CONNECTIONS.

like  most  riders,  aylin  was  born  to  a  rider  family,  but  unlike  some  of  her  fellow  riders,  her  parents  never  pressured  her  into  being  as  they  were.  both  her  father  &  mother  were  proud  of  their  riding  background,  &  aylin  grew  up  to  bedtime  stories  about  the  irreplaceable  bond  between  a  rider  &  their  dragon.  ever  since  she  was  a  child,  she  was  too  brave  for  her  own  good,  determination  turning  her  blood  steely  more  than  once.  she  was  impulsive  &  quick  on  her  feet,  like  her  mother,  but  at  her  father’s  encouragement  studied  thoroughly  in  order  to  also  instill  humor,  friendliness,  a  carefree  attitude,  &  a  intellectual  side  in  her  as  well.  if  she  didn’t  already  know  she  was  meant  to  be  a  rider,  her  mother’s  death  solidified  her  decision,  vowing  that  she  would  use  her  balance  of  grit  &  softness  in  order  to  better  the  country  &  help  her  fellow  riders.  she  made  it  through  her  first  year  in  one  piece,  much  to  everybody’s  surprise,  as  she  was  often  taunted  &  challenged  during  her  first  year  for  seeming  too  light - hearted  about  things  as  well  as  appearing  vain,  if  not  egotistical.  there’s  no  harm  in  being  both  beautiful  &  badass,  but  it  took  aylin  a  hot  minute  to  prove  herself  to  her  fellow  cadets  --  that  she  was  more  than  just  a  glittery  smile,  flirtatious  looks,  &  some  nervous  jokes  the  whole  way  across  the  parapet.  at  the  end  of  her  first  year,  her  older  sister  damla,  a  third  year,  was  tragically  killed  during  a  classified  mission  she  was  sent  away  on,  but  the  rumor  is  she  sacrificed  herself  for  another  rider.  since  then,  aylin  has  made  it  her  vow  to  step  up  &  help  cadets  become  incredible  riders  in  damla’s  name,  so  she’s  now  trying  to  balance  her  more  light - hearted  personality  with  both  the  grief  she  can’t  make  peace  with  &  the  responsibility  of  truly  accepting  what  it  means  to  be  a  rider.

personality  wise,  she’s  a  good  mix  of  badass  and  beauty  like  i  mentioned  before.  very  fleur  delacour  in  that  she’s  easy  to  underestimate  but  is  definitely  not  stupid  &  a  lot  stronger,  braver,  &  smarter  than  people  think.  she’s  like....  if  love  quinn  wasn’t  a  sociopath.  very  charismatic,  kind  to  others,  but  can  double  down  &  do  what  needs  to  be  done  in  the  moment,  though  it  does  have  some  effects  on  her.  i  love  her  she’s  very  much  my  sarcastic  sassy  baby  who  loves  the  rider  life  < 3
