Beware of scammers posing as Make-A-Wish
Tumblr media Tumblr media
MILWAUKEE — Every 34 minutes, a child in the U.S. has their dream come true, all thanks to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
An imposter posed as this organization that helps sick children, to scam people out of their money.
Connie Stewart reached out to our TODAY’S TMJ4 I-Team share how she almost fell victim just last week because the call was so convincing.
Stewart says she knew something was wrong when they asked for her credit card information.
“She [the scammer] made a remark when at first I was hesitant, she said, ‘Well, you wouldn’t want a child to die without their last wish?'” said Stewart.
TODAY’S TMJ4 tried to call that number back. It is now disconnected.
A spokesman with Make-A-Wish Wisconsin says they are aware of Stewart’s situation. They want to make clear, they have a nationwide policy to never solicit for donations by phone.
A spokeswoman for the Better Business Bureau called this imposter scam ‘Disgusting.’
“Even if you think that might be the charity that you believe it is — hang up and call the charity. Just verify, ‘Are you making telephone solicitations right now? I just received a call’ – Report that,” said Lisa Schiller of the BBB.
Do not submit to pressure. A charity looking for a donation will be happy for your donation today or in the future.
They are even seeing scammers setting up fake websites to scam a consumer.
The BBB has a scam tracker, that will alert you to new scams in our area. Click here to learn more.
Click here to be directed to the official Make-A-Wish Wisconsin.

Anxiety is an extremely typical psychological health illness in the United States and the rest of the world, and it is becoming progressively prevalent. In truth, between 1990 and 2013, the number of people suffering with anxiety and/or depression increased by 50%. Nearly 10% of the world's population is impacted by stress and anxiety or depression, and psychological diseases including these represent a third of the global non-fatal illness problem, especially economically.

In-Home Teeth-Straightening Business Is Booming ― But Better Brace Yourself
Though Anna Rosemond, now 33, had braces when she was young, a couple of years ago she noticed her teeth were again starting to crowd. So when she saw a Groupon deal for SmileDirectClub, she jumped on it.
“I thought, ‘This looks like a really cool way to do braces,’” said Rosemond, who made her own teeth impressions with putty and used a “smile stretcher” ― a device that pulls apart the lips and cheeks ― to take pictures of her mouth. A few weeks after she submitted the items, plastic aligners arrived in the mail, beginning what the company describes as Rosemond’s “smile journey.”
On that trip, there would be no time-consuming visits to a dental office, as her treatment would be overseen online through a SmileDirectClub-affiliated dentist or orthodontist — at a current cost of only $85 a month and a $250 down payment, according to the firm’s website.
Initially, she said, the aligners sent in 2017 seemed to be working. But over time, Rosemond said, she grew concerned: “My teeth were literally moving at an angle.”
Rosemond is part of a wave of patients who have embraced this do-it-yourself approach to orthodontia, hoping to attain a perfect smile without the high out-of-pocket cost and potential inconvenience of traditional braces or tooth aligners.
To be sure, technology enables consumers to do more at home, and dental care ― with its limited insurance coverage ― offers a large potential market. Home teeth-whitening kits have largely displaced in-office treatments, for example.

Now, teeth straightening is the newest dental frontier, with startups like SmileDirectClub, Candid, Smilelove and SnapCorrect advertising their services aggressively on billboards and social media.
When results are good, the DIY approach can yield thousands of dollars in savings. But when the treatment plan doesn’t produce results or goes wrong, consumer-patients like Rosemond voice their frustrations in Facebook groups and complain to the Better Business Bureau or the Federal Trade Commission that they have nowhere to turn for help.
The companies do not make information public about success rates or problems — although SmileDirectClub says it has achieved a rating of 4.9 stars out of 5 on nearly 58,000 Google reviews — and there are few scientific studies of outcomes for direct-to-consumer orthodontics.
To get a simple refund after an initial 30-day period, patients are often asked to sign what SmileDirectClub calls a “release,” stating the consumer won’t complain publicly — which it says is fairly standard in business. A shareholder lawsuit against the firm says those releases suppress consumer complaints, leaving investors in the dark.
Consumer complaints to advocacy groups and regulators, including the FTC, the Food and Drug Administration and state attorneys general, as well as lawsuits, are accumulating.
Yet, SmileDirectClub, the company with the largest market share of direct-to-consumer orthodontics, says it’s achieving its aim of disrupting the entrenched orthodontia industry.
“We have provided consumers for the first time with an affordable option that is also far more convenient for those who cannot afford to miss school or work or are disabled and cannot get to multiple office visits,” said Susan Greenspon Rammelt, general counsel for SmileDirectClub.
Tiffanie Leatham, who worked as a dental assistant for SmileDirectClub for a year, felt the company pressured her to sign up patients whose teeth she thought were not suitable for aligners. “It was mostly sales with a small hint of dentistry,” she said.
Recent SEC filings show SmileDirectClub spent more than half its revenue on marketing.
They Saw The Opportunity
The direct-to-consumer teeth-alignment industry was enabled by the arrival two decades ago of Invisalign, clear plastic aligners that offered an alternative to the hated “metal mouth” look of braces so familiar to a generation of children. Invisalign, however, is dispensed by dentists or orthodontists during in-office visits, so it’s more costly for consumers.
While Invisalign sales remain high — its manufacturer, Align Technology, reported a record $2 billion in worldwide total revenue in 2018 — patents on the product began expiring in 2017.
SmileDirectClub saw the opportunity early and launched in 2014, with backing from Camelot Venture Group, a private investment group that also backed Quicken Loans and 1-800 Contacts. Initially, the startup’s aligners were made by Align Technology; now, SmileDirectClub does its own manufacturing.
Nashville-based SmileDirectClub, which says it has served more than 750,000 customers worldwide and represents 95% of the at-home clear-aligner industry, went public on Wall Street in September 2019. Its customers almost tripled ― from 90,000 to 258,000 ― from 2017 to 2018, according to SEC filings. But the company has yet to post a profit, also according to its SEC filings.
SmileDirectClub said customers initially used impression kits at home. Now, the company said, most customers visit one of more than 360 “SmileShop” locations, some inside CVS or Walgreens pharmacies, where technicians take a 3D scan of their mouths. The total cost starts at $1,895, although financing or additional items, such as retainers, can add to the price, according to the firm’s website.
With SmileDirectClub, most customers start by buying a kit to make their own mouth impressions. Others go to one of more than 360 “SmileShop” locations, some inside CVS or Walgreens pharmacies, where technicians take a 3D scan of their mouths.(Hannah Norman/Kaiser Health News)
Those impressions, photos and scans are sent to the firm’s facility in Costa Rica, where technicians develop treatment plans and one of 85 dentists employed there reviews it. For U.S. customers, treatment plans are also reviewed by a dentist or orthodontist licensed in the state where the customer lives, says SmileDirectClub.
Customers then receive an image of what their teeth might look like after treatment and can decide whether to proceed. If they do, the facility sends off the plastic aligners, which are worn sequentially over a few months for 22 hours a day.
If there is a question or problem with the aligners, billing or other issues during the months-long treatment process, customer service agents are the first stop. They can route concerns to the affiliated dentists, said company executives. Sometimes, according to a written statement, “the treating doctor will ask to see the patient in person, or work with the patient’s regular dentist.”
In the same statement, SmileDirectClub said it could not comment directly on specific patients’ experiences.
Direct-to-consumer aligners are clearly filling a niche, but one that makes some health care experts uncomfortable. “It’s a symptom of a broken health care system: getting dubious-quality online services without much accountability because mainstream services are unaffordable,” said Arthur Caplan, founding head of the division of medical ethics at NYU Grossman School of Medicine in New York.
As the industry has grown, so too have complaints from customers, pushback from dentistry’s professional trade groups and scrutiny from regulators. More than 1,600 complaints have been lodged nationally against SmileDirectClub with the Better Business Bureau (BBB) in the past three years. The FDA has received at least 72 complaints regarding SmileDirectClub’s products since 2017, according to a Kaiser Health News analysis of the agency’s device database.
KHN contacted all 51 state attorneys general offices. But, of the 34 offices that responded to the request, 19 reported a total of 75 complaints concerning SmileDirectClub. The FTC also has received 175 complaints against the firm, though the majority (148) are duplicates of the complaints received by the BBB and the state attorneys general. SmileDirectClub’s Instagram and Facebook posts also have generated many comments from dissatisfied consumers.
The other firms, all with far less market share, also figure in complaints filed with the BBB, including 54 against Candid, 10 against Smilelove and three against SnapCorrect.
Despite that, the BBB says it gives all the companies high grades because their business volume is high compared with the number of complaints filed and they demonstrate responsiveness to complaints. SmileDirectClub maintains an “A-minus” rating from the bureau. The other firms range from A to B-minus.
Many of the BBB, FTC and social media complaints focus on customer service issues, such as delays in receiving products or difficulty in obtaining answers to questions about treatment or getting refunds. Only a sliver of complaints ― 48 ― submitted to the BBB’s website centered on clinical problems, Dr. Jeffrey Sulitzer, SmileDirectClub’s chief clinical officer, said in a November interview.
One was submitted by Michael Anthony Johnson of Dallas, who alleges the company’s aligners harmed his teeth.
Johnson, a 57-year-old CEO of online Centertainment Radio & TV, said he saw the advertisements and stopped in at a SmileDirectClub retail location to see if he would qualify. A technician took a 3D scan of his teeth.
“She said, ‘I think you’ll be fine,’” he recalled. “Two days later, I was approved.”
For the first few months, all seemed well; but at month seven, several of his teeth broke, he said.
SmileDirectClub responded that the initial scans taken in their shop showed problems before he started treatment, including two broken teeth, fractures on one and a dark spot on another.
“Before you started remote clear aligners these areas of concern should have been addressed with your local dental provider,” Charlene, with the company’s dental team, wrote in response, according to the BBB website.
She also noted that Johnson had signed a consent form for his aligners, a document that includes one long paragraph declaring he had recently been to a dentist and taken care of any problems. Johnson said he did not read the multipage document before signing.
“The response back to me was, it’s your fault,” said Johnson. “No one said you need to go see the dentist. Yes, it’s my fault for not reading the fine print, but the person taking my imprints, she never mentioned it.” Johnson is now saving up money so he can get three teeth replaced with implants. For some, he said, the aligners may be a great product, but “I know, for me, it was not.”
The company has argued it isn’t liable for clinical problems raised by consumers, as it is not practicing dentistry but is merely a “dental support organization” ― essentially, the go-between. Rather, SmileDirectClub said its treating dentists and orthodontists are the responsible parties if something goes wrong.
Those treating dentists and orthodontists ― who earn an average of $50 per customer ― can review patients’ files, ask the customer to submit more information or seek X-rays and even request that the patient get a deep cleaning before treatment, said Greenspon Rammelt, SmileDirectClub’s general counsel.
However, SmileDirectClub dentists currently do not see the patient in person, and some experts say that is a problem. “A proper diagnosis cannot be done by a picture of teeth,” said Chad Gehani, a practicing dentist and the American Dental Association’s president. An examination, he added, is needed to detect things like cavities, shortened roots and gum disease, which could lead to problems, according to the ADA and the American Association of Orthodontists (AAO). Both groups discourage the use of online aligners.
SmileDirectClub announced on Jan. 14 that it would soon offer aligners through dentists and orthodontists.
Lawsuits And Turf Battles
Several lawsuits challenging SmileDirectClub — brought on behalf of consumers, dentists and shareholders — are ongoing.
One class-action case brought by dentists, orthodontists and consumers in Tennessee alleges the company engages in false advertising and unfair trade practices, although all of its consumer plaintiffs have withdrawn as of this month. SmileDirectClub had won a ruling that its customers all sign agreements to arbitrate disputes, rather than litigate. Shareholder lawsuits allege SmileDirectClub failed to disclose some concerns, including the level of consumer complaints, before the firm’s initial public offering.
In separate action, after dental boards in Georgia and Alabama set rules requiring dentists oversee any scans done in retail settings, SmileDirectClub went to court. In its filings, SmileDirectClub alleges the boards, made up mainly of dentists and orthodontists, were trying to stifle competition.
SmileDirectClub has also sued the Dental Board of California, arguing it directed an investigator to “conduct a series of coordinated raids” on its retail stores that amounted to harassment.
The California case is pending in federal court. The Georgia and Alabama cases are also ongoing, pending before the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.
The cases have drawn much interest: The AAO has filed amicus briefs in support of the Georgia and Alabama dental boards, backing their jurisdiction and authority to set rules. The Federal Trade Commission weighed in on behalf of SmileDirectClub on a part of the case that involves whether Alabama state lawmakers exercise enough supervision over the state’s dental board.
As for Anna Rosemond, after sending multiple photos of her teeth to SmileDirectClub via Facebook Messenger, she said she was told to complete her treatment, despite her concerns about her teeth moving at an angle. Eventually, the company agreed to send her new aligners, but she said they didn’t fit.
Fed up, Rosemond said, she stopped her credit card payments to SmileDirectClub. She ignored calls and emails about being sent to collections.
She said she consulted an orthodontist who told her, based on his review of previous X-rays and photos, she had a crossbite because of the SmileDirectClub treatment and would need braces with rubber bands to correct the issue.
She recently finished nine months of traditional orthodontics treatment from that orthodontist and loves her smile now that the braces are off.
“I’m so much more confident,” said Rosemond. “And my bite feels great.”

Course Hero is an education technology website that allows students and educators to upload and share study resources with each other.
In our Course Hero review, we’ll let you know if it’s worth using.
Back before the internet, college and university students were limited to their classmates and campus resources like professors and the library. You had to leave your dorm room and seek out help from these sources.
When the internet was invented, someone decided that crowdsourcing education was a good idea, and so sites like Course Hero sprung into existence. Students share their study materials on the site and get to see other people’s study materials in exchange.
It sounds too good to be true, and some people have even lobbed scam accusations at the site.
Read the rest of our Course Hero review below to see what I think.
FAQ
1.) What is Course Hero? Course Hero is an education technology website where students and educators can upload documents and share study resources. It was founded in 2006 by a Cornell student named Andrew Grauer so he and his fellow students could share resources. Course Hero is now based in Redwood, California.
2.) How does Course Hero work? Course Hero is crowdsourced, meaning you have to contribute to Course Hero’s library of resources and/or community of students and educators to take advantage of everything on the site. Users earn unlocks and tutor questions through a variety of actions, such as rating other’s resources or sharing their own.
3.) What types of study resources/documents are on Course Hero? Course Hero has study guides, practice problems, video lessons, and class notes in basically every school subject.
4.) Does Course Hero have a mobile app? Yes. They have an app for iOS and Android.
5.) How many study resources does Course Hero have? Course Hero has over 25 million course-specific study resources.
6.) How do you earn free tutor questions? At the start, you are given 2 for creating an account, 2 for verifying your email, and 5 for logging into the mobile app for the first time. As for uploading documents, you are given 3 questions for the first 10 documents, 6 more when you upload 30 total documents, and 6 more when you reach 60 documents. After that, you are given 8 per friend you refer, 1 per tutor question you tag to a course.
7.) How do you earn free unlocks? You earn 5 per 10 documents you upload, 3 per quiz you create, 1 per 5 of your documents being unlocked by others, 1 per 5 of your documents receiving a thumbs-up, and 1 per 5 pieces of other peoples’ content you rate.
8.) Do tutor questions expire? Yes. They expire within 30 days of them being credited to your account.
9.) Can I redeem tutor questions for cash if I don’t want them? No.
10.) How long do unlocked documents stay unlocked? They stay unlocked for your entire subscription.
11.) What are Practice Problems? Practice Problems gives you additional study material. It pulls information from Course Hero’s library of resources and creates small problems sets for you to study with. Practice Problems is currently free, as it’s still in beta.
12.) How many times can I do practice problems? You can redo the same practice problems as many times as you want by clicking restart. Once you exit a problem set, the problems will change.
13.) How does tutoring work on Course Hero? All you do is type out your question, pick the subject it’s for, and submit it on the tutor screen. A tutor should have an answer for you in minutes. If their answer is sufficient, you can accept it.
14.) What if a tutor doesn’t answer my question sufficiently? You can follow up with your tutor for additional clarification. If they still don’t answer your question, you can flag the answer as “unhelpful”. Course Hero sends a Question Processor to evaluate the situation. Usually, the question will be canceled and you’ll get your tutor question back. You can follow this process if their answer is incorrect as well.
15.) How do I become a Course Hero tutor? You’ll need to fill in their application form with some basic personal information, your country of residence, your highest level of education, a brief description of your teaching or tutoring experience, and where you heard of Course Hero.
16.) How many hours do tutors work? Tutors set their own hours. You can work as much or as little as you want.
17.) How much do tutors make? Course Hero claims their top tutors make $500 per week. Your results will be a lot less at first, though, as you need to earn ratings for your tutoring. The higher your rating, the more money you can earn.
18.) What subjects can I teach as a tutor? Subjects include art/humanities, business, engineering/tech, foreign languages, history, math, science, and social studies. There are a ton of specialties within each subject you can choose from.
19.) Do I need to be a professor or certified tutor to become a Course Hero tutor? No. Course Hero does not provide strict requirements, but you need to at least be educated beyond high school in your subject of choice. The more credentials and experience you have, the more likely they’ll accept your application.
20.) How long until I hear back regarding my tutor application? They receive a high volume of applications, so they can’t guarantee you’ll get a response, let alone within a certain time frame. Again, the more credentials and experience you can display, the faster you’ll get a response.
21.) How much does Course Hero cost? Course Hero has a free subscription with limited access to Course Hero resources. However, you can earn tutor question and unlock resources by uploading your own documents and referring others to Course Hero.
22.) Does Course Hero have a free trial? No. Course Hero basic membership is free.
23.) Are there any upsells? Course Hero’s Premier subscription is the only upsell. Premier subscribers get 30 unlocks per month. You get 10 tutor questions on the monthly plan, 20 tutor questions on the 3-month plan, and 40 tutor questions on the yearly plan.
24.) How much does a Premier subscription cost? It normally costs $39.95 per month. However, you can opt to pay for 3 months at a time or a year at a time. Paying 3 months at a time costs $59.85, which is equivalent to $19.95 per month. Paying a year at a time costs $119.40, which is equivalent to $9.95 per month. You can change or pause your subscription at any time.
25.) Do Premier unlocks roll over from month to month? No. Your unlocks reset to 30 every month no matter what.
26.) What is the educator platform? Course Hero allows educators access to their library of documents so educators can customize their course materials. Educators can earn unlocks and unlock documents the same way students can.
27.) What is Course Hero’s refund policy? If your GPA for the semester in which you first subscribe to Course Hero Premier is less than your GPA from the academic term immediately prior to your subscription, Course Hero will give you a full refund. To request this, you’ll have to provide them with copies of your transcripts. Tutor answers are non-refundable. You may cancel your subscription at any time to avoid being billed for your next month, 3 months, or year.
28.) Does Course Hero have an affiliate program? Yes. Affiliates can earn 10% commissions per referral. To become an affiliate, you have to join through an affiliate network they’ve partnered with. To use Course Hero branded banners and other marketing materials, you have to create a Course Hero account and register for a developer API key. Alternatively, they have a “refer-a-friend” program. Each referral through this program earns you 8 free tutor questions.
29.) What is an affiliate network? Affiliate networks are intermediaries between affiliate marketers and companies with affiliate programs. They help companies reach a much larger audience for more sales. Examples include Clickbank and CommissionsJunction.
30.) Which affiliate networks offer Course Hero’s affiliate program? Skimlinks, VigLink, ShareASale, FlexOffers, and CommissionJunction.
31.) What is Course Hero’s BBB rating? A+
32.) Is Course Hero a scam? No. Due to its crowdsourced nature, it has to be a legit platform or it would go under because people would stop contributing in order to gain access to other documents.
33.) Isn’t using Course Hero considered cheating? No. It’s similar to having a large study group where everyone’s sharing materials and ideas. Course Hero claims they don’t tolerate cheating, plagiarism, or copyright infringement and they will permanently ban anyone who engages in any of those actions.
34.) What constitutes cheating on Course Hero? Cheating includes copying and submitting materials as your own work, uploading recordings of lectures in the same term you recorded them, using Course Hero resources when told not to use outside help, and using Course Hero in a way that violates the academic honor code of your instructor and/or school.
35.) Comparable companies: Chegg, Kahoot, Quizlet, StudyBlue
Course Hero Review – Overview
Course Hero is a crowdsourced online learning platform for students and educators to share study resources like notes and study guides.
Similar to Facebook, Course Hero started in a dorm. In 2006, a Cornell student named Andrew Grauer started Course Hero so he and his fellow students could share course materials in case people didn’t pay attention in classes.
Now, Course Hero boasts over 10 million student users contributing to and studying on its platform.
It works by incentivizing students to share their study materials through an unlock system. Students gain access to the documents they need by sharing their own study materials, allowing the platform to thrive.
As you’d expect, Course Hero has had its fair share of criticism.
There’re the accusations of scams.
Some think Course Hero’s resources cause students to care less about learning and more about grades, while others simply accuse the site of allowing mass cheating.
I can see where they’re coming from, but keep reading our Course Hero review for more info.
Product
Course Hero has both its main website and a mobile app. Course Hero’s main features are its library of crowdsourced study materials uploaded by students, its team of online tutors you can either seek help from or join, its scholarship opportunities, its educator accounts, and their new practice problems feature that is still being beta tested. Users earn unlocks and tutor questions to access the first two.
The types of study materials on Course Hero include notes, essays, homework help, study guides, and lab reports.
These documents can be viewed in full and downloaded with earnable unlocks. When you unlock a document, you have access to it for the entirety of your subscription. Earning tutor questions let you seek help from Course Hero’s online tutors.
Most documents let you see a page or two to make sure the document you’re about to unlock is relevant to what you’re looking for.
To find study materials, you can type what you’re looking for into Course Hero’s search bar.
Alternatively, you can search by school, subject, or book. Searching by subject is a great way to find specific study guides, while searching by book is useful for English or literature classes.
Further study materials are available in the form of their practice problems.
Course Hero draws on its library of study materials to create practice problems. After you complete a problem set, you can repeat the same problems as many time as you want by clicking restart. Once you exit a problem set, you can do another problem set with brand new questions.
This is currently free as Course Hero is in the middle of beta testing it, so take advantage while you can.
For personalized help, tutors are available 24/7 to answer your homework questions.
To get help from a tutor, ask your question, pick the subject you need help with, and a tutor will help you out. You can rate your tutor afterward. If you tried your best to get an answer from the tutors but they couldn’t help, you can have your tutor question given back to you.
Usually, tutors are fast about answering questions. In fact, several tutors are able to help you at the same time.
But to speed up the process, you have to be as specific as possible in your questions.
The tutors are fellow Course Hero users, meaning you can become a tutor and get paid to help others.
As a tutor, you’ll be helping your fellow Course Hero students.
Tutors get to pick their subject and set their own hours. You don’t need to show up anywhere either, so it makes for a decent side hustle.
Course Hero claims their top tutors earn $500 a week on average. That’s not bad side cash for an easy job you can do on your own time.
To become one, all you have to do is fill out their short application. Don’t be disappointed if you don’t get a response, though. Course Hero gets a ton of applications every day, and they can’t possibly respond to all of them.
I’d recommend listing all your relevant credentials and experience when you’re applying for a tutoring position. The more reasons you give them to hire you, the more likely you’ll get a timely response.
Unlocks can be earned a few ways.
For every 10 documents you upload, you earn 5 unlocks. Once these are uploaded, you earn 1 unlock for every 5 people that unlock a document of yours. 5 thumbs-up rating earns you another unlock.
You can even make quizzes for your uploaded study materials, which earn you 3 unlocks per quiz.
Most of your tutor questions are earned during the account creation process, while some can be earned through uploads.
Creating your account and verifying your email earn you 2 tutor questions each, while logging in with the mobile app for the first time nets you 5 more.
As for document uploads, you get 3 questions for the first 10 uploads, 6 more when you hit 30 total uploads, and another 6 questions when you hit 50 total uploads.
Sometimes, tutor questions will be relevant to a course on Course Hero. If you accept the tutor’s question, you can tag the tutor question to a course if prompted and earn back your tutor question.
Lastly, you can refer friends and earn 8 questions per referral.
Both unlocks and tutor questions take an hour or so to credit to your account once you upload a document, so don’t be alarmed if they don’t show up right away.
If you need help paying for school, they’ve got scholarships on there too.
Course Hero’s scholarships are really easy to apply for if you meet their application criteria. Most of them require a short answer, but some of the larger ones involve a bit of essay writing.
They change up the scholarships all the time, so keep your eyes peeled if you’re in school.
Educators can use Course Hero as well.
Course Hero offers accounts to educators so they can customize lesson plans using materials in Course Hero’s library. Unlocking these documents works the same for educators as it does for students.
Upsells
Course Hero’s main upsell is it’s Premier subscription. A Premier subscription gives you 30 unlocks a month, but your unlocks don’t roll over. Monthly subscribers get 10 tutor questions, quarterly (3 month) subscribers get 20 tutor questions, and yearly subscribers get 40 tutor questions.
Unfortunately, tutor questions don’t roll over. Once you use them, you’ll have to buy more or earn them as if you had a free membership.
For what you get, Premier doesn’t seem to be worth the price. If you’re a student, you probably don’t have the money or the willingness to spend the money anyways.
You might as well skip the upsell and earn your unlocks and tutor questions the free way.
Pricing
Course Hero’s basic subscription is free. The Premier subscription has 3 pricing options. You can $39.95 per month, $59.85 per 3 months, or $119.40 per year.
Opting for the 3-month option saves you $20 per month. The yearly option yields you $30 in savings.
If you’re a college student who’s always seeking out additional study resources, that yearly price might be worth it. If you simply have a hard semester, then the 3-month option might be better.
The monthly option isn’t really a great value unless you’re desperate and don’t have a lot of study documents yourself. You can always upload study materials and refer friends to earn free unlocks and questions.
Speaking of unlocks, you can only buy more of them if you have a Premier membership. Tutor questions can be bought at $3 a piece if you don’t want to earn them.
Affiliate Program
Course Hero has an affiliate program where affiliates can earn 10% commissions per referral. The affiliate program is run through various affiliate networks. These include Skimlinks, VigLink, ShareASale, Flexoffers, and CommissionJunction.
The affiliate networks Course Hero works with could change, so keep an eye out for that.
Course hero also provides you with branded icons and banners to market their site. To gain access to those, you must have an account and register for a Course Hero developer API key.
The refer a friend program isn’t exactly an affiliate program, but it does earn you a lot of tutor questions. Since tutor questions don’t roll over even for Premier subscribers, make sure to have a steady referral stream if you need a lot of tutor help.
Recap
Course Hero is definitely not a scam. In fact, it can’t be a scam or it wouldn’t exist in the first place.
Think about it.
If students didn’t benefit from Course Hero, then students wouldn’t contribute study materials to the platform. Course Hero would soon go under.
Based on their 10 million+ users, it doesn’t look too scammy to me.
I think crowdsourced education enhances the learning experience. It’s like having one large study group that’s willing to share all their resources with you and only you, as long as you give a little bit back.
Now, I can see why people equate using Course Hero with cheating. But how is browsing notes or getting tutor help online any different than sharing your notes with your classmates or visiting a tutor on campus?
Not to mention Course Hero bans anyone found violating their strict standards on cheating and copyright infringement.
Crowdsourced education is powerful, and Course Hero is a great example.

Course Hero Review – is it a scam?

SNC-Lavalin reshuffling leadership ranks, restructuring amid poor performance
As the political furor over whether SNC-Lavalin Group Inc. received special treatment from the Prime Minister dominates national headlines, the Montreal engineering and construction company has been suffering through its own, separate business drama — reshuffling much of its executive lineup this year in the face of losses and mishaps.
On Thursday, the Montreal-based engineering company announced an official restructuring of its business, and made three leadership changes adding to earlier turnover in its ranks.
The company framed the changes as an attempt to “de-risk” its business by consolidating certain business segments. It follows several damaging mishaps, including the loss of a $350-million contract in Chile earlier this month, and a cloud that moved over its oil and gas business particularly in Saudi Arabia, both of which led to major writedowns and earnings revisions.
Terence Corcoran: Free SNC-Lavalin, victim of inadequate laws and political incompetence
‘A hit to SNC’s reputation’: Chilean state-owned miner fires embattled company, adding to its woes
SNC-Lavalin eyes ways to protect business ‘if the worst came to the worst’ amid political crisis
“This new organizational structure will position us for further improving project delivery, driving sustainable growth and more consistent cash flow generation,” Neil Bruce, chief executive of SNC, said in a press release.
The company has twice slashed its profit forecasts this year and last month it reported a $1.6-billion loss for the fourth quarter. That prompted Standard & Poor’s Ratings agency to downgrade its credit from BBB to BBB minus, the lowest investment grade rating for its bonds to still be eligible for bank investment.
SNC-Lavalin CEO Neil Bruce.
Part of its losses flowed from a dispute with the Chilean-run copper producer Codelco.
In January, Bruce said he was “deeply disappointed” in his mining team for cost overruns on the project, and the company’s chief financial officer said it would result in hundreds of millions of dollars in losses. Earlier this week,  SNC confimed it had been fired from a $350-million contract to build acid plants for Codelco, and walked back claims that it hoped to resolve that dispute on an accelerated time frame.
That project was an engineering, procurement and construction contract, in which SNC agreed to design and build the project at a set price. Such contracts are higher risk as the company is responsible for cost overruns.
As part of the restructuring, SNC announced a new “project oversight” position to “foresee and fix project-related issues in a timely fashion,” that will report directly to Bruce.
He has stressed to investors that there won’t be any future debacles similar to what happened with Codelco on its outstanding EPC contracts.
“We have gone through 20 of our top contracts,” Bruce said during the last earnings call in February. “In terms of the work we do in this arena … we’ve done all the checks again to make sure that what we approved is what we signed and that they are on track and we don’t have anything of any similar nature whatsoever.”
Per its restructuring on Thursday, the company is focusing on four core segments including nuclear, infrastructure, resources and lastly, engineering, design and project management, or EDPM.
It will also have a technology business, which includes clean power and cybersecurity, and its capital business, meaning six discrete units down from nine.
SNC also announced new people to lead its EDPM, capital and resources segments — the last of which combines the old mining with the oil and gas segment.
This follows the appointment of a new chief operating officer Ian Edwards in January, a replacement named to succeed him as head of infrastructure, and the planned exit of its former head of the oil and gas business unit this summer.
Meanwhile, in Ottawa, the company has faced heightened scrutiny after former attorney general Jody Wilson-Raybould testified earlier this month that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s administration pressured her to reach a settlement with SNC on longstanding criminal charges that it bribed Libyan government officials.
The entire situation has lead to growing speculation about whether SNC may seek to break up some of its business, and sell certain units. Market reaction to the latest news was tepid, with the price barely moving from around $34.

Panoramic Weekly: Risk Assets Rally Despite Trade Wars
Traditional fixed income risk assets, such as Emerging Markets (EM) and High Yield (HY), rallied over the past five trading days, shrugging off an escalation of the trade tensions between the US and China. The world’s No. 1 economy announced plans to set tariffs on additional US$200bn worth of Chinese goods, adding to the $34bn that came into effect on Friday. The almost 200-page list of goods, including live fish, antiques and wooden doors, raised new concerns about China’s exports and weakened the renminbi to 6.67 against the US dollar, its weakest level in almost one year. Chinese debt and equity markets suffered, particularly High Yield (see more below).
The renewed trade tensions, however, did not deter EMs from a sharp rebound, partially fuelled by a weaker dollar. The greenback dropped following Friday’s US jobs report, which sent a mixed picture of the economy: while hiring was up, wage gains ebbed, pushing down breakeven inflation rates and market-implied probabilities of future rate hikes. EM currencies soared, led by the Mexican peso, which surged 2.7% against the dollar after president-elect López Obrador announced meetings with US officials to discuss the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). López Obrador has also reached out to business leaders and committed to keeping the country’s deficits under control.
Commodity markets, however, were hit by the renewed trade wars, with copper down 2.45% over the past five trading days (read more below). The Turkish lira didn’t survive the week, either: it lost 2% against the US dollar after the country’s current account deficit widened and president Erdogan assumed new powers to name the central bank governor and appointed his son-in-law as chief economic policy maker. Sterling gained 0.5% against the US dollar over the past five trading days, unscathed by recent political turmoil (more below). The Bank of Canada raised rates by a quarter point to 1.5%, the second hike this year.
Going up:
China corporate spreads – high enough? The gap between China’s HY corporate spreads and US Treasuries continued to rise in July, reaching 367 basis points – the widest since April 2015, when the central bank was cutting rates to stem a declining pace of growth. The recent move reflects rising investors’ concerns about the renminbi’s 5.3% drop against the US dollar over the past 3 months and mounting fears about the effects of the new US trade barriers on China’s exporters. The ongoing domestic battle to reduce leverage, a rising greenback and higher US interest rates have also led investors to demand more compensation for risk. Spreads have now risen to a level that, for some, may be high enough to buy the dip. China’s economy is also on track to meet its c. 6.5% growth target this year, mainly boosted by internal consumption – the country, for instance, sells more cars domestically than the US. Growth may also be less challenged by trade wars than it is often believed: while the current account surplus used to represent 10% of GDP in 2007, it barely accounts for 1% now. More domestically-geared economic growth could also underpin leading economic sectors, such as real estate. The housing industry, however, is going through a recovery phase on concerns of unsustainable high prices and a rising default rate. More defaults, however, are sometimes considered as a positive as they improve the country’s credibility at a time that China is planning to open up its credit markets to international investors.
World Cup, weather, royal wedding outweigh political turmoil: Growth is coming home: Sterling gained 0.6% against the US dollar over the past five trading days, unharmed by the resignation of the country’s top Brexit and Foreign Affairs officials. The currency was instead more responsive to economic growth, which rose 0.2% in the three months to May, and to improving consumer spending data: a combination of good weather, the recent Royal wedding and World Cup success helped lift consumer spending by 5.1%, year-on-year, in June. The optimism pushed up the market-implied possibilities of an August rate hike to 82%, the highest since April.
Going down:
US High Yield and Investment Grade: decoupling: After months of moving in lockstep, US Investment Grade (IG) and HY debt started decoupling in the second quarter of the year, although in this instance, it is not so much HY spreads that have flown away, but the traditionally steadier and quieter Investment Grade ones. The move follows this year’s heavy IG supply, which has lifted the premium demanded by investors, as well a dearth of HY issues as investors are more reluctant to buy issues at low yield levels. US IG is also suffering from a deterioration in quality: companies with a BBB rating (the lowest IG rank) now account for half of the asset class, up from 34% in 2006. Along with US loans, UK inflation-linked bonds and EM bonds, US HY is one of this year’s top performing asset classes – it has gained 3.2% over the past 12 months, surviving trade wars, political turmoil in Italy and a general rising rate environment. Some market observers, however, say US HY may look expensive and may continue to do so: limited supply is expected to continue, given a weak M&A calendar and major refinancing deals already done, and also because of strong competition from the loan market. Floating rate loans have become increasingly popular in the belief that they may protect investors from rising rates. The ongoing trade wars have also helped increase the gap between IG and HY, as HY issuers tend to be more domestically focused and less internationally exposed. How long for?
Commodities – trumped: Copper, silver and palladium were some of the commodities to post losses over the past five trading days, hit by the escalation of the US-China trade tensions. Metals suffered a double blow as they are included in the latest list of products that face new US tariffs, as well as from potential lower demand from China, the world’s largest consumer of commodities over the past decade. Currencies of commodity-exporting countries dropped: Chilean peso lost 0.3% over the past five trading days against a falling dollar on concerns that its copper exports could be challenged.

Crazy Bulk Review-The Real Deal?
Crazy Bulk is known to be among the highest point of the line in the Legal Steroids department. Be that as it may, Nowadays you hear such a great amount of buildup about Legal Steroids, however the central issue is does it extremely satisfy the buildup? In this article we mean to give you a reasonable comprehension of CrazyBulk and Legal Steroids.
So we should dive into this…
As a matter of first importance, What The Heck Are Legal Steroids?
The case is that Legal steroids are for the most part characteristic (and safe) supplements that copy the anabolic impacts of Steroids, without all the risky reactions.
What Benefits Do Legal Steroids Companies Claim?
Increase your Muscular Strength, Density, and Endurance
Increase your Recovery time
Huge Boost of Energy amid your exercises
Increase Fat Loss
Yet, Is that Really True?
Subsequent to gathering reports from competitors, weight lifters, and rec center goers, individuals have announced eminent outcomes with Legal Steroids. I have not gotten any reports of symptoms related with the items. As indicated by criticism that I have gotten, individuals begin to see comes about inside the initial 2-3 weeks of taking the items yet that must accompany a decent weight-preparing system and dietary administration.
We know in the game of working out how critical supplementation can be and verification taking Protein Supplements, Creatine, and Glutamine to give some examples have appeared to offer extraordinary muscle increases and general execution when contrasted with the gathering who ate well and practiced without supplementation.
In any case, do the Legal Steroids give that same additional edge or is it just fake treatment? So I chose to attempt it myself to check whether it truly helped. A decent companion of mine who I put stock in, was raving about the Ultimate Stack by CrazyBulk (The Bulking and Cutting Stack) so I chose to go gung-ho on it and requested the Ultimate Stack which was the most costly in light of the fact that it had both the building and also the cutting stack out and out. Everybody revealed to me before that it's smarter to destroy them stacks since they work in conjunction together for the best outcomes. I said to myself, in case I will go full scale on it by requesting the best stack they suggest , at that point if this doesn't work then I'll never attempt Legal Steroids again. If it's not too much trouble take note of that I didn't roll out any improvements to my dietary or lifting weights routine since I knew I was following that perspective to each letter of the book.
So Here Were The Results:
Crazy Bulk Supplements Review
Week 1: No Change
Week 2: Starting to have more general vitality all through my exercises. I felt the power of my exercises have expanded by 25 % and began to see longer enduring pumps post exercise.
