trying to explain my hatred for the disir episode to someone who isn't a) desperately involved in the world of bbc merlin and b) doesn't know how it all ends, is actually torture. it's the breaking point. it's the beginning of the end. it's the decision to shape all decisions. it's the strings of fate being pulled by the weight of a sorcerers tears. it's a death sentence disguised as a saving grace. it's a masterpiece and the worst thing you could see on your tv screen.

the strongest three consecutive episodes of bbc merlin are death song of uther pendragon, another’s sorrow, and the disir and i will always stand by that
#bbc merlin#death song of uther pendragon#another's sorrow#the disir#merlin season 5#these are the best consecutive episodes and they are among my favorite of all episodes#and i will not accept criticism <3#05x03: arthur realizing he's not going to be the man his father wants him to be and learning to be okay with that#05x04: mithian's back! and merlin being a detective! and merlin working with arthur to figure out how to make albion stronger!#05x05: the disir. need i say more?#like.#i will not take criticism <3

that's the first fucking time Gwen & Arthur is heard throughout the series. i could be mistaken since it's been a few months since i've rewatched the first season, but if i'm not, then that piece isn't heard again until 02x02, when gwen and arthur kiss for the first time. but the first semblance of the piece we hear is during 01x05 when arthur and lancelot are interacting, not gwen and one of those two.
other pieces - such as Farewell to Gwen - that have the main theme of Gwen & Arthur are heard while arthur and merlin are interacting. this shit is so fucking queercoded.
sorry i'll shut up about the first lancelot episode in a second but
the scene with arthur, uther, and lancelot at the end of the episode (wherein arthur fights uther for lancelot, and lancelot does The Noble Thing and decides to leave camelot) takes place at night-- right after the griffin attack. you can tell bc the torches and shit are lit and, again, it's literally right after the griffin attack which was at night
anyway. Cut To gwen watching lancelot ride off. it's now Morning.
this is not important to me other than to say yes it absolutely is because it means lancelot made a huge show of being like Goodbye Now. I Am Leaving, only to back out of the throne room and go back to merlin's for what I can only fairly assume was one night of intense passion. thank you good night
#do it on accident#also you can't say that they didn't or shit like that#in 04x11 and 05x10 the same piece plays while isolde is on screen and injured and then when kara and mordred are in the dungeons together#that piece? merlin buries lancelot#which is the piece that plays during both of lancelot's funerals and is meant to foreshadow all of their death's#the music is very well thought out#also there's one part they use from the opening of mahler's fifth symphony in 05x05 but that's a whole other conversation#but yeah this shit is GAY#bbc merlin#arthur pendragon#lancelot du lac
