if anyone has read my blog, you'll know i'm the first to criticise how russell wrote black characters on doctor who.

BUT.

that was 14 years ago. i'd like to think he has gotten much better. i haven't seen much of his stuff post doctor who, but I would like to bear all of that in mind. and he also didn't make them stereotypes either. mickey smith wasn't a gangster, a loud aggressive black man. and martha jones wasn't snapping her fingers in the z formation and saying "mhhmmm!". and i greatly appreciate that.

the episodes aren't out yet. and ncuti is already being promoted. and i am very excited even if the new logo is ugly i know it's homage but it's giving thomas the tank engine.

p.s. i feel like im in the twilight zone, didn't everyone already know disney+ was distributing it now? i feel like we are going in circle.

and ANOTHER thing doctor who fandom:

i think people are rightfully wary of the show setting a precident that one team is superior to another BUT i personally think the bbc is responsible. they are the ones who asked russell back after all.

they have been clearly reluctant to push certain things. the visibility for 13's era has been minimal at best. it's my theory is that the reason the chibnall era was so shaky was because of interference from the higher ups. i truly think chibnall wanted jo martin for the doctor and the bbc said no. It wouldn't be the first time they have interfered with casting and stories. from what moffat has hinted, his own 'writer's tale' would arguably be twice as long. and problems for classic showrunners are the stuff of legend. i mean come on, the show got pulled off air because a bbc controller didn't like it.

hell, they wanted to axe the damn show when david confirmed he wasn't returning. fully end it. and like it or not, the show has yet to reach the heights of s4. i'm sorry but it's true. and according to the writer's tale, one of the reasons russell wanted to leave was because he was bloody tired. and the bbc didn't give an eck. they didn't seem to understand the concept of a burnout.

just another but important facet in all of this. the bbc want this.
