This past fall there was a box on the walkup to one of the houses I pass when I go to the library. It said "free irises" and was full of bare tubers. So I took a couple and buried them in one of my flower beds. I had no idea what they were going to look like (assuming they survived the winter).
Jackpot! Love it. Free plants ftw.

A little shadow from the sunny window as I was finishing this iris, just painting for myself. I take tons of photos of my garden to use as painting inspiration, even months or years later haha.

I moved all my bearded irises last year to the brightest and driest spot in the garden and they seem to be loving it.

Alright I think she’s done! This took so long compared to how I usually do watercolor but I’m really happy with the end result 😊

Grandmother’s irises are blooming!
This is an intermediate bearded iris with a plicata pattern, probably bred in the 70’s or 80’s. Wish I could ask her what the label said when she bought them. Might be “Hemstitched” or “Rare Edition” but we’ll never really know for sure.
