LET IT SNOW
EMBRACE THE WONDER OF WINTER AT THESE RESORTS
They say no two snowflakes are alike, and we believe the same to be true for each traveler. While some head to warmer weather during the colder months, others flock straight to the mountains with their own unique visions of a snowy retreat. If views of sparkling white landscapes warm you from the inside out, there is still plenty of time to plan a visit to one of the many luxury resorts in our portfolio of U.S. hotels before the winter season ends. Enjoy the snowy ambiance of idealistic destinations along with gourmet cuisine, exceptional service, outdoor resort activities, and of course, VIP perks fit for royalty.
ST. REGIS DEER VALLEY
UTAH
Set amidst the picturesque Wasatch Mountains, this refined Park City resort offers convenient ski-in/ski-out access as well as its own private ski beach and ski valet. Even better, take advantage of the private Funicular to get to the top of the slopes without delay. After a full day in the snow, you still have more to look forward to — book a signature treatment at Remède Spa, take a dip in the hotel's heated split-level infinity-edge pool (the views are to die for), or dine on an exquisite meal followed by a dessert of roasted s'mores at the fire pit.
Private Perks: Upgrade upon arrival, complimentary daily breakfast for two, early check-in/late check-out, $100 resort credit to indulge further, and more.
BRUSH CREEK RANCH LODGE & SPA
WYOMING
Discover the authentic spirit of the West during a stay at an intimate, all-inclusive luxury ranch resort in Wyoming's famous Platte River Valley. Your rustic accommodations tie into the surrounding Rocky Mountain wilderness and create a haven to reconnect with nature and indulge in unlimited adventure. If you love the thrill of snow activities, you'll be hard-pressed to find a moment of boredom — enjoy horseback riding, cross-country skiing, snowboarding, ice fishing, ice skating, sledding, snowmobiling, snowshoeing, and tubing — all unfolding across 30,000 acres. Indoor indulgences range from a visit to The Trailhead Spa for relaxing treatments, The Saloon for swinging doors and jukeboxes, and The Spirit Vault for an elite barrel-tasting experience (accessible via a secret entrance).
Private Perks: Upgrade upon arrival, complimentary daily breakfast, early check-in/late check-out, $150 credit per person toward any premium activity, and more.
THE RESORT AT PAWS UP
MONTANA
From John Steinbeck to F. Scott Fitzgerald to even Abraham Lincoln himself, there is no shortage of those who have been quoted paying homage to the breathtaking state of Montana. At The Resort at Paws Up, surrounded by 37,000 acres of snow-covered land and icy rivers, you'll find yourself at the crossroads of incomparable luxury and unspoiled wilderness. The perfectly curated snow activities (like racing through the wilds on a tube towed by your own snowmobile chauffeur) will surely work up your appetite for the resort's authentically seasonal winter menu. In fact, you may even catch a glimpse of the executive chef foraging for rose hips or juniper berries in the snow.
Private Perks: Upgrade upon arrival, welcome bottle of wine, complimentary daily breakfast, round-trip private airport transfers, early check-in/late check-out, $300 activity credit, and more.
THE RITZ-CARLTON BACHELOR GULCH
COLORADO
Inspired by a traditional mountain lodge, this retreat offers seclusion amid towering pines and majestic landscapes with the unparalleled amenities you can expect from The Ritz-Carlton. Take advantage of convenient ski-in/ski-out access right into Beaver Creek Ski Resort before hitting up the spa for the signature Miner's Mineral mud wrap (it includes Colorado mine-sourced activated charcoal). Next, enjoy regional brews at Buffalos gastropub while the children enjoy ski classes and in-room camping as part of the Ritz Kids program.
Private Perks: Upgrade upon arrival, complimentary daily breakfast for two, $100 resort credit to treat yourself, early check-in/late check-out, and more.

Awesome Places To Camp On The Oregon Coast

Only one SP tenting space is on the ocean (Beachside - between Yachats and Waldport), however select your website carefully as it's also proper on busy Hwy one hundred and one. For those with bigger RVs who're nonetheless looking for that in-the-woods feeling, the popular Harrington Loop Road south of Sisters doesn’t disappoint. If your thought of camping means sharing your site with extra ravens than different RVs, there’s no higher place to seek Oregon Coast camping out solace and seclusion than in Mount Hood National Forest. Expect towering Douglas-fir bushes to forged shade and conceal you away within the forest. Think trickling creeks and mushrooms springing up from each crevice, squirrels dancing acrobatic as eagles perch majestically in their eternal pursuit of representing liberty and justice for all. While it is hardly the one forested mountain you'll be able to discover, this combination of river, height and sheer vastness makes it one of the well-liked.
Other amenities embrace two clubhouses, two playgrounds, health heart, mini golf, basketball and tennis courts, clean bogs, and a laundry room. The solely draw back is it’s situated on the south side of the park, so you’ll must drive if camping on the north side. When we arrived, we received an actions calendar, however the only exercise we attempted to attend was a bonfire at the group fireplace pit space. Apparently, it was a member-led exercise, and that member didn’t show up, so no bonfire. There is Wi-Fi out there throughout the park for a charge, but it's free in the clubhouses and laundry room. We had 2-3 bars of 4G LTE of Verizon and AT&T throughout most of the park. The Oregon coast is a wonderful place to name home for a couple of days, weeks, or months when taking a highway journey in an RV.
The summer time months are undoubtedly the most effective time for Oregon coast camping. The weather is typically nice at the moment of the 12 months, but it's also the most crowded time to go to. I’ve heard it’s great to visit in the spring and fall when the parks are not so crowded.

Summer Oregon Coast Camping
The campsites are spacious and can be found on a first come first served basis except for the 2 yurts which are reservable. There are several trails of various issue leading from the campsites to the beach, wildlife viewing areas, and second-growth forests. By far, certainly one of my favorite all-around locations to camp as a household. Located on the northwest tip of Oregon in Warrenton, Oregon, Fort Stevens state park is certainly one of Oregon’s largest campgrounds and parks. More than half of the recreational space is a converted military base. Follow the paved bike paths throughout Fort Stevens and find yourself biking past old navy bunkers and bases you can find out more.
One that you could depend on is that much of the coast itself is personal property and/or public land that prohibits dispersed camping. Our dispersed tenting guidelines has all the tenting essentials plus specific objects for dispersed camping. The following sections comprise all the essential info you should plan a free, dispersed tenting journey along the Oregon Coast. A stretch of street simply north of Gold Beach is another promising area for this sort of free camping.
Glowing Lotus glamping on the Oregon CoastDon’t be fooled by this tent. Located in a peaceful setting on a seed farm, this cute one-bedroom cottage has beautiful views overlooking Youngs Bay. It can sleep four and has everything you want for a comfortable keep. But what this campground lacks in amenities it makes up for in solitude. It’s an excellent campground on the Oregon Coast for anyone trying to escape crowds.
And then there’s highway noise and the slight probability the police would possibly kick you out despite the lack of “No Overnight Parking” indicators. I’m not very well-versed with on line casino camping on the Oregon Coast. Next time I make the drive, I plan to look extra intently into this type of free camping and will update this publish accordingly.
We are also coordinating with Bonneville Power Administration as they develop a proposal to upgrade their communications equipment on Marys Peak. Marys Peak, at 4,097 feet, is the highest level in Oregon’s Coast Range and the most outstanding peak to the west of Corvallis. On a clear day, from Marys Peak Day Use on the top of the peak, you probably can see each the Pacific Ocean to the west and many of the Cascade peaks to the east across the Willamette Valley. Would you prefer to share the wonders of Cape Perpetua with visitors? Cape Perpetua Visitor Center is open seven days per week most of the yr, with reduced hours in the winter. Visitor Center staff and exhibits will information you to the cultural and pure historical past of the realm.
Every pull-up camp spot at Harris Beach State Park comes with a paved parking spot, picnic table, and hearth ring, as properly as nearby water, restrooms, and showers.
Venturing additional south and into Siuslaw National Forest will deliver the opportunity to camp on the South Lake Dispersed tenting space.
Jessie M. Honeyman Memorial State Park is two miles from the ocean and identified for its iconic sand dunes.
The anthology was positively a rip-off to get her mother and father to buy a bunch of anthologies, but she's still pretty happy with her panda poem.
Quite presumably one of the most popular, and definitely the most important, the Fort Stevens Campground is a behemoth.
The 80-site campground is ready among scenic coastal pine, Douglas-fir, spruce, wax myrtle and huckleberry.
Some also had alternative camping choices like cabins and yurts. A short distance south of Newport, this large campground provides quick access to the seaside. It’s an excellent base camp for a guided paddle journey up the nearby Beaver Creek estuary. There are several sights near South Beach State Park. Plan to visit the historic Yaquina Bay Lighthouse Oregon coast camping located 2 miles north in the Yaquina Bay State Park.
Highway 38 presents connections to the southern Willamette Valley and town of Eugene, or on to Roseburg via Highway 138. If you might be on the lookout for a place to stay in the course of the winter months or in the summertime, you will discover amazing views of the natural magnificence the Oregon Coasts provide. Private campgrounds are going to value anyplace from $50 to over $100 an evening, relying on the location and lodging they supply. If you're a tent camper in search of a tenting tent, you should take a look at these three first.
Jessie M Honeyman Memorial State Park Campground, Close To Florence
Here are some chic spots to cuddle up in on the Oregon Coast. Oregon has a surplus of gorgeous coastline, but one reviewer claims that Nehalem Bay is “one of the most beautiful” amongst them. You’ll definitely want to reserve a spot upfront in the course of the summer time months at this well-liked park. Rolling sand dunes border the campground and a 1.8-mile bike path makes exploring the beach a breeze.
The 12 full-hookup RV websites and 23 tent sites at Umpqua are centered across the freshwater Lake Marie. A scenic paved path circles the water and lends access to non-motorized boating, fishing, and swimming. Adjacent to the campground, the Umpqua River Lighthouse supplies aesthetic enchantment and elevated views of the distant ocean shore. Approximately ninety websites cater to RVs at Harris Beach, some with full hookups and some with simply electric plug-ins.
Before embarking in your tenting adventure, please examine local Department of Parks and Recreation websites for data and updates relating to the standing of park openings. It just is decided by the time of year and where you'll be. Also, concentrate because there are men’s and women’s sleeping baggage.
If you may have an additional trailer for a automobile, ATV, or boat, you will be charged a further $10 per day, but storage is restricted and available on a first-come-first-serve foundation. This state park’s seashore can be a fantastic place to go tide pooling which makes it considered one of our favorite campsites on the Oregon Coast. Be positive to check out the interpretive choices this campground provides, corresponding to historical past walks, nature walks, guided tide pool excursions, and enjoyable youth programs. There are sections of the dunes where you'll be able to experience motorized vehicles and sections where you can not.
Elk River Highway
There’s also a dump station, flush toilets, and showers for campers to make use of. Sunset Bay State Park is a state park administered by the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department and offers one of the most scenic areas on the Oregon coast. It is positioned about zero.4 miles south of Cape Arago Lighthouse, and 2.5 miles outdoors the city of Charleston on Coos Bay, and is a hop and a skip away from the seaside.
I was raised in Portland and spent most of my childhood weekends camping at the Oregon Coast. I attribute this weak point to my mother’s love for the Oregon Coast — we spent most summer time weekends on the seashore rising up. Running water and restrooms can be found for all in a single day users. The state park also provides ample parking and staging areas for OHV riders.

Out There Campsites
Bend Westy is a wonderful approach to rent a camper van with all the comforts of house. She's been a writer ever since she will be able to keep in mind, and her first literary accomplishment was having a poem a few panda published when she was eight. The anthology was positively a scam to get her dad and mom to purchase a bunch of anthologies, however she's still fairly pleased with her panda poem. When she's not at her computer, she's outside, climbing or camping along with her canine. We’ve obtained you lined with over 1,800 campgrounds in Oregon. With The Dyrt PRO you can obtain all of those campgrounds and maps for offline use.
Close-by can also be the Military Museum and final but not least each camper wants to go to the stays of the Peter Iredale shipwreck on the beach. Rachel Sandwick / FlickrCape Lookout State Park can be reached by traveling an hour and a half west of Portland via the scenic Wilson River pass. Along the greatest way cease and revel in waterfalls, scenic views, and a few nice fishing.

OVAC Tourney Spots Still Up for Grabs
Tumblr media
The pairings for the OVAC Girls Basketball Tournament are nearly set, with the pairings meeting set for Tuesday morning. While all five No. 1 seeds are locked, positions two through four in most classes are still up for grabs, including a few teams that could play their way into, or out of a spot in the semifinals, tonight. Tonight is the deadline to get games in that count toward OVAC qualification. Per usual here in the Ohio Valley, Mother Nature is throwing some of these teams a wintry curveball. At 7:30 a.m., some schools across the valley had already canceled, and many were on a two-hour delay. Might a cancelation also mean a cancelation of tonight’s games? Some may be hoping yes. Others, no. LedeNews.com will lay out the scenarios and potential impacts of tonight’s games, along with who is already in, and who may get in. The same will be done with the boys’ pairings next Monday. Wheeling Park's Alexis Bordas, left, is a leading candidate for the Ostrowski Award, given annually to the top girls' basketball player in West Virginia Class 5A Wheeling Park is off tonight but travels to Morgantown on Tuesday in what is a rematch of last year’s 5A OVAC finale and what could be a preview of this year’s. The Patriots are steamrolling teams this season, with their only loss to University, one they avenged in a big way a few weeks later. The Park is led by sophomores Alexis Bordas and Lala Woods, both of whom earned all-state honors as freshmen. Bordas, a first-team honoree, is a leading candidate for the Ostrowski Award, given annually to the state’s top girls’ player. Don’t pencil in the Patriots as team champs just yet. While they own a win against Morgantown already, if there’s one team that’s been a thorn in Park’s championship aspirations the last few seasons, it’s the Mohigans. Morgantown is currently No. 2 in the standings, with Warren third (15-2), John Marshall fourth (13-4), and Marietta (13-2) in fifth position. Here’s where things get interesting. Warren is scheduled to travel to Marietta tonight, a matchup the Warriors won earlier this season, 43-36 in overtime. John Marshall, meanwhile, gets the 19th crack at knocking off undefeated Union Local this season. That game takes place in Morristown. As Park and Morgantown are off, if Warren and John Marshall both win, the Warriors move up to the No. 2 spot and the Mohigans drop to third. But, if Marietta wins, the Tigers will move to third if JM loses, and fourth if JM wins. Regardless, it’s a win and you’re in for the Tigers. The only way the Monarchs are out is if they lose and Marietta wins. Now, if Marietta wins, and John Marshall’s game is called off, the Monarchs are in no matter what happens with Marietta and Warren and actually move to third with a Warren loss in that scenario. Class 4A Indian Creek has the top seed locked, but Class 4A is one of the more evenly contested classes, next to 2A. The Redskins, who fell Saturday in the Buckeye 8 championship game in a tough loss to Union Local, host Brooke tonight. They are led by the trio of Kylie Anderson (13.3 ppg), McKenna Scott (12.2), and Tori Robertson (11.3). They are followed in second place by Harrison Central, a team Creek defeated twice this season, 74-36 in Wintersville and later 54-39 at Cadiz. The Huskies face a tough Malvern team led by Maddie Powers tonight, but win or lose, HC will be the two-seed. Oak Glen is third and plays Beaver Local, a team the Golden Bears dispatched off 61-24 back on December 22. Win or lose, the Bears are in, but a loss could slip them back to fourth, as could a cancelation, coupled with a win by the current No. 4 team. That team is Buckeye Local. The 7-11 Panthers faced Steubenville Catholic tonight, a team BL lost to 60-51 on December 5. A win, coupled with an Oak Glen loss or cancelation, would vault the Panthers to the No. 3 spot. But a win guarantees, at minimum, the No. 4 position. However, a loss and the No. 6 team, Weir, could vault the Red Riders to the No. 4 spot. That’s a big if, however, as Weir plays at Wheeling Central 12-2. The Red Riders lost 80-53 back on December 10 to the Maroon Knights. Weir seems to be playing its best basketball right now, plus Central is coming off a disappointing loss to Frontier that snapped a 12-game win streak. East Liverpool currently sits at No. 5 but the Potters are off this evening. Class 3A There’s a clear favorite in Class 3A as the Union Local Jets, led by Tori Kildow and West Liberty signee Reagan Vinskovich, are 18-0 and the lone unbeaten left in the OVAC. The team that likely has the best chance of beating UL? That’d be perennial power Fort Frye, a team that the Jets beat 56-34 on December 22. Does that mean head coach Lou “Scooter” Tolzda’s team will breathe any sigh of relief if Dan Lidtke’s Cadets are opposite the Jets on Championship Saturday? Not a chance. Fort Frye hosts Point Pleasant (4-11) tonight and win, lose, or cancelation, the Cadets will be second. Martins Ferry is off tonight and will remain third, irrespective of tonight’s happenings. The one spot that is up for grabs is the fourth and final position. Shenandoah sits 10-7 and faces Philo (7-9) tonight. A win and the Zeps are in, but a loss to the Electrics allows No. 5 seeded Bellaire a chance to sneak in. The Big Reds host a four-win Shadyside team. Should both lose, the Zeps will have just enough of a points average (32.7 to 32.6) to edge the Big Reds. A dangerous Linsly team (8-10) is off Monday, so there’s no way for the Cadets to play their way into the tournament. Buckeye Trail actually has the fourth-best record in 3A at 10-6, but the Warriors play a lot of games in their other conference, the IVC, and only wins against OVAC opponents provide bonus points. Class 2A This class figures to be the most evenly matched as any of the Top 4 teams has a chance to win it. It’s also one of only two classes where the four teams making the tournament are already decided. It’s just a matter of where. River (16-1) is the favorite, coming in with its lone loss to unbeaten Division II Fairland. The Pilots are rolling and boast one of the better 1-2 combos around in junior Kelsey Harland and senior Hannah Raper. The Pilots are first no matter the outcome of tonight’s showdown in Hannibal against Monroe Central, currently the No. 3 seed. River took care of the Seminoles 58-41 earlier this season in Woodsfield. The No. 2 team Wheeling Central saw its 12-game win streak come to an end with a road loss to Frontier, 49-44. The Cougars are the No. 1 seed for the Class A tournament. The Maroon Knights face Weir and even with a loss, would still retain the No. 2 seed. Central is an incredibly balanced team, as its top four scorers range from 14.2 down to 10.2, all in double figures. A Seminoles win, coupled with a Maroon Knights loss, puts Monroe above Central into the second spot. Otherwise, the top three will remain River, Central, and Monroe. The fourth and final position is going to Southern Local, led by junior scoring machine Ashley Shroades. Shroades, who averages well over 20 points per game, celebrated her 1,000th career point—last season, as a sophomore. Neither Wellsville (5th) nor Steubenville Catholic (6th) can make up enough ground with a win tonight to overtake Southern. Class 1A This may be the one class where the odds-on favorite is not the top seed. The Cougars (14-4) after the win against Central moved up into first place and secured their top spot over the West Virginia defending Class A champion Cameron Dragons (11-4). Led by the trio of Ashlynn Van Tassell, Kenzie Clutter, and Maci Neely, the Dragons are battled tested against a tough schedule. Both Frontier and Cameron are off tonight, and their spots are locked at one and two, respectively. The upstart Hundred Hornets are third with their 10-3 record. The Hornets won’t receive any points tonight if they win as opponent Jefferson County Christian is not a member of the OHSAA, its home state’s athletic organization. The Hornets' average is 29.38, which will drop to 27.29 with either a win, or a loss, because of that classification. Hundred is in, but will remain third unless No. 4 team Morgantown Trinity defeats Caldwell tonight on the Redskins’ home floor. The Lumberjills of Valley are fifth, but even with a win tonight, their average would only bump to 22.38. Read the full article

Cultural Landscapes by Bicycle
"Around the [Beaver Dam] pool and winding among the ancient forest trees, I had built, a dozen years before, for my friends' and the public's use, a broad bicycle path, at a time when a new development of geared machines and rubber-tubed tires had given new popularity to the bicycle, and everyone who could was riding."
These were the words of George Dorr, who in 1893 formed the Bicycle Path Committee to expand the network of riding trails in what is now Acadia National Park.
[In Pathmakers: Cultural Landscape Report for the Historic Hiking Trail System of Mount Desert]

Today, there are many ways to explore national parks by bicycle, with opportunities for riders of varying levels and trail preference. Some trails provide a remote wilderness experience, while others connect to historic places in cities and towns.
We recently highlighted three of these paths toward exploring park cultural landscapes by bike in the southeastern region of the United States: Cultural Landscapes by Bicycle
Ride a loop road through an agricultural community in a fertile valley, follow the path of a former railroad that once brought tourists to Mammoth Cave, or travel mountain bike trails to a farmstead from the late 1800s.
Looking for bike options in parks near you? Did you know that you can search national parks by activity? Find a Park!
