I think when he was younger Hades actually was very similar to Zagreus, but the mix of horrible parents, responsibility of being an eldest son to two younger brothers (and their only real father figure), and the later responsibility + lack of sunshine + general doom and gloom of the underworld turned him into the person he is now

#hope talks #i actually have a lot of HCs regarding the older gods #im rly interested in the fact that zeus and poseidon rly rly rly rly obvious miss Hades. They miss him terribly!#but neither of them would ever come out and just say that #it's always in guarded words. never directly addressing the issue (especially for zeus)#which i think is part of zeus' problem as a whole... he never says what he actually means #being raised by the titans caused zeus to develop a very warped idea of what family is also #he thinks family is unconditional love. love that doesn't have to be earned #but he also believes that this love cannot waver. that he can do whatever the hell he wants and still be loved simply due to those family #ties. i think all the older gods would have an easier time in their eternal lives if they just #admitted that killing their parents WAS you know... a traumatic experience vyubgi #they only ever mention it when its to brag of their own strength or mention how mortals should be thankful for such an act #even tho its definetly much more complex than that #anyways.#here's my HC birth order for them #from hyperion and theia: hestia helios selene eos demeter hera #and then from cronus and rhea: hades zeus poseidon #all the hyperion / theia kids were born before the cronus / rhea kids
