I papered the kitchen w a Mary Englebright pattern I loved. The stove was a Chrysnbyn plastic kit. [Not shown because it needs to be glued back together.] I build the ice chest & cabinets from scratch. I am particularly proud of the ice box. The lid lifts & the door is held in place by a teeny tiny handle.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Pearl's had a bin of loose Housework's porch posts for a dime each & that decided the décor in the living room. The shelves & cabinets were fitted around the posts & made from strip wood & cardboard. The lamps at the back windows were fashioned out of decorative glass beads & had parchment lampshades before the mice ate them.
The blue empire sofa was one of the more expensive items S & I collected. The bentwood rocker was another survivor piece. The rug was needlepointed by Mama. The two little easy chairs were made from cardboard, cotton balls, & covered by fabric scraps. The green table lamp was given to S by her grandmother & originally non-working. I made it work by inserting a "grain of wheat" bulb into it.
The one piece in the living room of which I am the most proud is a replica of a Gustav Stickley desk. I only had a b&w photo to go by & think I made it a bit too shallow but, otherwise, I put a great deal of effort into the pigeon holes & working drawers. I also designed & printed out the stationary & made tiny envelopes & even stamps! The desk chair is a survivor.
The last remnant in the stash of surviving objects included 2 German-made dolls, which had been greatly abused. I used oil-based retouching paints, which Papa just happened to have, to re-paint their faces & transformed them as nearly as I could into replicas of Mama & Papa in Victorian garb.
When I presented my work, Mama asked, "But, where are you?" That's when I made the doll of myself. So there we are: Papa tending the fire, Mama busy in the kitchen, and myself forever vainly adjusting my coif.
The End.

Product designer and decorator Marjorie relocated from Los Angeles to Mérida, Mexico, to restore a dilapidated 19th-century mansion. “This was once the grandest street in the city,” explains Marjorie.   “The façades are particularly beautiful, and I fell madly in love with this pistachio green one.”
Tumblr media
In the entry foyer, she commissioned a local artisan to paint a grisaille-style flora pattern on the walls.
Tumblr media
Most of the original flooring has been restored, including the tiles in the sala grande. Marjorie designed the light fixture, the side table, and the iron cocktail table base, which is topped with antique leather and glass.
Tumblr media
The biblioteca’s original wall stencils and beamed ceiling were restored, and Marjorie filled the room with one of her coral light fixtures, a custom cocktail table she designed with a granite top, and chairs that once belonged to her parents.
Tumblr media
Although the kitchen was relocated to another area of the home, the copper vent hood is original to the house. Marjorie designed new cabinetry and installed  marble countertops as well as a granite-topped island.
Tumblr media
Off the kitchen is a patio with a botanical scene. Marjorie designed the iron-and-marble table, the mirror, the console, and chairs.
Tumblr media
Another portion of the patio contains a sitting area featuring an Austrian bentwood settee circa 1910.
Tumblr media
In a guest bedroom, the armoire is an antique piece that was painted to match the circa-1900 bedside table and cabinet from Sicily.
Tumblr media
A sitting area in the primary bedroom contains a 19th-century French settee, an antique English majolica side table, and a vintage Chinese floor lamp.
Tumblr media
She also designed the rose quartz−and−gold leaf bedside tables and the headboard.
Tumblr media
A pair of hand-painted custom armoires flank the hallway leading from the primary bedroom into the bath.
Tumblr media
The bath features a hand painted mural, a Brazilian granite floor, a 19th-century Mexican bathtub, an antique French console, and an Italian chair from the 1960s.
Tumblr media
A pair of hand-painted custom armoires flank the hallway leading from the primary bedroom into the bath. A new pool completes the outdoor oasis.

Thonet & Design is a minimalist showroom located in Munich, Germany, designed by Steffen Kehrle. The groundbreaking achievements of the early period – new technologies, new design methods, new distribution and marketing channels – are juxtaposed to developments in the 20th and early 21st century. The firm founded in 1819 by Michael Thonet, a master cabinet-maker from Boppart, evolved down through the decades into one of the most important makers of bentwood furniture.

Why is the seat cushion for the ch24 wishbone chair one of the top brands for chairs?
Hans Wegner crafted the Wishbone Chair, known as the CH24 Chair or Y Chair, for Carl Hansen & Sn throughout 1949. This same seat has a woven mailer pattern on the paper cordseat and just a bentwood headrest. The backrest of the chair is molded like a wishbone.
Wegner's most refined design, the seat, is a typical case of Danish furniture.
Since its introduction, the chair has been in production. The seat is huge in Japan, where sales contribute further than one-quarter of manufacturing. Inside the Japanese language, there seems to be an entire novel dedicated to the chair.
Details about the chair-
The Wishbone chair has a simple design but a complicated manufacturing process. Each part is masterfully crafted by hand and boasts exceptional craftsmanship. Wegner's deep appreciation for woodworking and joinery is evident in the production chain, which places a strong emphasis on carpentry.
Because he got his start as a cabinet maker, he is also known as The "Master of Chairs." Since he was a child, he has had an enthusiasm for woodcarving. During his apprenticeship schemes with master furniture makers, he unearthed his fondness for wood and fine-tuned his crafting skills. Carl Hansen & Son, a Danish furniture company, noticed the prolific designer's talent. Holger Hansen, the company's then-owner, commissioned Wegner to design a mass-producible, high-quality chair. As a testament to the chair's enduring legacy, a new edition with a seat made of leather with seat cushion for ch 24 wishbone chair was made in 2020.
Why does everyone want this chair?
Support for Posture  People are concerned about their posture, so this is considered the best chair. You've noticed that when you are using regular chairs that lack basic correct posture, you lean forward while the rear height is erroneous.
Enhanced Productivity You can sit for long hours on this chair comfortably with a leather chair cover bruno mathsson
Pain Reduction Lower spine pain and chest pain are two major body pains experienced by office workers. This is usually because traditional chairs are not designed to allow people to sit for too long periods while maintaining proper posture.
It relieves pressure on the hips When it comes to maintaining weight down in your body, your hips take its brunt. This does not appear to be the case for white-collar workers who usually sit in such an ergonomic chair.
Flexibility The furniture you select should be flexible enough to accommodate the needs of every individual in the office. Employees come in all shapes and sizes, so investing in home furnishings that can be customized to fit their needs can help to keep everybody in the office relaxed and focused on one‘s work.
The most famous piece as a Danish design icon is the Wishbone chair, which adds comfort and style to any space with its structured simplicity. To know more, you may look over the web.

There aren’t many people who can take an already renovated 1930s property, renovate it again, and end up with an even more characterful, charming home.
Instead of trendy fixtures and an ultra-contemporary extension, owners Josh and Anastasia Elias updated their Malvern East home to feature recycled materials and secondhand furniture throughout.
‘When expanding the footprint of the home, we didn’t want to impose upon the original character,’ says Anastasia, founder of new homewares business Elias Mercantile. ‘We loved the warmth that came with the age of the original home and wanted to help it grow a little to accommodate our family.’
Josh and Anastasia designed the renovations and extensions themselves under the tutelage of Nick Gribble from Restored Building Co, interior designer Studio AMI, and consultant Moyshe Elias.
Works in the original portion of the home involved shifting the previously narrow and dark hallway; dividing the formal dining room into a powder room, walk-in wardrobe and en suite; and converting the attic into storage space.
The kitchen, sunroom, outhouse and laundry were demolished to create the rear extension, but original materials were salvaged in the process. Anastasia explains, ‘We stacked every brick, chipped off the plaster and mortar, and then later reused them to build the extension.’
Several reclaimed windows with steel-frames and brass hardware now open this rear area up to embrace the outdoors.
Other reclaimed materials in the home include several internal doors, and a glass window used in the en suite. ‘I have such wonderful memories racing around Victoria to visit far off salvage yards, searching for that perfect something that would form the tapestry of what would become our home,’ Anastasia says.
The handmade and hand painted kitchens cabinetry is the work of UK cabinet maker, deVOL Kitchens, who Anastasia came across on Pinterest. Initially out of reach due to budget constraints, these were able to be included after reworking the design. Anastasia says, ‘After doing some research we realised that if we kept the design of the kitchen simple we could feasibly import our kitchen and mix the cabinets with loose furniture.’
The couple’s existing large mid-century glass-fronted cabinet in particular works to soften this space, while increasing valuable storage space. ‘We wanted to use it in the kitchen, so that was a great influence on the layout for the kitchen and how it evolved. We then found a beautiful old workbench at an antique auction which became the island,’ says Anastasia.
The home’s main bathroom was also reconfigured at the suggestion of Anouska Milstein of Studio AMI to accommodate a separate bath and shower. Surfaces inside and out have been painted with Dulux Natural White.
The cherry on top of this delightful renovation is the abundant garden, which was planted with help from Bespoke Landscapes just two years ago! A neighbour’s towering historic tree canopy including an enormous Norfolk pine further adds to the landscape, while inviting dramatic silhouettes into the home on clear nights. (Take a closer look at the garden here!)
Anastasia describes the completed property as nostalgic, and timeless. ‘It is a true reflection of what we believed would be the best outcome for the home; a response to what it was lacking, with an open mind to what it could be.’
If you love Anastasia’s style, check out her brand new homewares business, Elias Mercantile.
