[Part 2] O.M.G we are soooooo excited!!! Not only is it nearly time for our Autumn Creativity Programmes in the little art studio, its also almost time to go wild and imagine everything…. it’s FESTIVAL time 💥✨NEXT WEEKEND we will for the THIRD time be at Lollapalooza Berlin!! Lotta love for Kidzapalooza @lollapaloozade Olympiastadion ❤️❤️❤️ We were just beautifully happy and full of awe for all the upcycled creations out of junk that the families dreamt up the past two years. For two days kids and adults alike came and rummaged through our vintage suitcases, bringing out the magic in the ordinary objects into the extraordinary through binding, threading, taping THINGS together or playing with loose parts in weird and wonderful hats, sculptures, dreamcatchers, bags, crazy games…supported by our team of inspiring child-led art educators and amazing volunteers.  We love being spontaneous, and last year did a fashion show and street dance on the Kidza stage, grooving along with the djs ❤️ Delighted to be back again with @zwergstadt,  popping up and playing with the young and young at heart! Will we see you there? What spontaneous collaborations can we create together?! That brown paper packaging you get in a delivery box? A wonderful sensory play opportunity, listening to it scrunching, tearing holes into it, wearing it, peeking through a tiny hole in it…endless fun. This week at Art Play! at Raum Schwalbe, I also observed green rubbery leaves being stencilled and splattered back and forth in silver paint, conversations between toddlers mirroring one another with spinning their paint rollers, little fingers tracing the woven designs in red cabbage and circles like bracelets, hooked over arms in bright yellow lemons. LET THEM BE LITTLE, LET THEM MAKE A MESS, IN THIS OH SO FLEETING MOMENT OF CHILDHOOD…. Next week utterly delighted that our Autumn Term of Art Play & Connect Programme for 18 months- 4 year olds and their parent resumes, in our studio set up as an experimental Creativity LAB in Berlin. This is a child-led Reggio inspired space where paint oozes and flows all over bodies, paper, card, embraced in between toes and lovingly squeezed from parent to toddler in a hug. The atmosphere can alternate between calm and focussed sitting at the table manipulating clay and developing fine motor skills, and noisier and active rolling on the free painting floor mural with rollers or cars,  exercising those gross motor skills.  It can be quite challenging for adults to let go of the end messy results, asking “What is it supposed to be?!” We talk about asking instead, “What can you see?” giving their child the sense that we all see different things and that’s ok, to help build self-esteem and deepen connections. Parents worry about the final clean up at first, but the pay off is brilliant when we just sit with the moments unfolding in front of us, learning from our child the joyful world of the fearless, curious toddler, that we need to embrace more regularly, to live in all our senses. This is the rawness of childhood, how it’s supposed to be, slowed down time. We don’t often do it at home because we feel we don’t want our apartment redecorated. Kindergartens may avoid as they don’t have enough staff for large scale clean up. We offer 1,5 hours / week over 8 weeks, as space to just sit, crawl or roll in the paint, as you desire, small child and adult together, and afterwards we have a snack, story and share tips and ideas about growing creativity at home, including our top tips for non-messy, messy play at home  😍✨ Interested to join us starting Monday 9th or Tuesday 10th next week? ON THIS DAY 6 - Six?! years ago. 🥰😭 My golly, I couldn’t get enough of this precious messy slowed down time together, sitting quietly observing, or gently oozing paint between my fingers, and assisting when asked, “more paint Mummy.” Still makes me emotional every year it pops up in the social media Time Hop thing. My little artist totally immersed in the joy of her own process, and who inspired me to scratch that itch and finally start up little art as a parent & child process art LAB about a year later. I needed this space as a parent and knew others did too, feeling their frustrations with creativity stifling adult and outcome led Pinterest craft for young toddlers, but they weren’t sure what to do, and didn’t want the mess at home! 😆💡😊 By the way, my toddler loved this wheel only briefly used this one time (our class was at Klax), wet clay slipping and sliding. Cracking afternoon with my little artist being Art Detectives in the fabulous Sigmar Polke show @mecollectorsroom. We grabbed the guide and played a game finding each art work in the book. Great intro for young kids to a show, searching out details, colours patterns. Have used Sigmar Polke a lot as a reference with teenagers in experimental photography projects and was intrigued how she would find it. An simple repeated object can be a real companion or focus for a small child, they find it again and take joy in exploring their world with it, enjoying the familiarity of it in appearing in front of them. This toddler artist has across this past term at Sensory Art Play, really focussed on the balls and circles within each LAB.  She enjoyed textured ones in paint, the feel and patterns made with it, ping pong ball inside a whisk listening to the sound it makes (try it!), rolled balls in clay, and then a squashed ball between the toes! It was particularly interesting to notice her reaction to circles printed on the glowing lightbox- flat shapes that can’t be picked up. 3D Paper Play! Experimenting with making graphic images taking textures from paper. The  8-12 year olds in our Saturday Kids LAB loved the brand new Speedball texture rollers, have you tried these beauties?! They played individually with a variety of textures— tightly folding papers and taking textures, drawing contrasts with the rollers, thinking about atmospheres created by shapes and forms, adding colours, lettering and their own stories. Loved watching them in their ‘AHA!’ moments over and over again as the roller revealed its magical trace on the paper. The  8-12 years in our Kids Art LAB began exploring memories of past birthdays, places they used to live, the details of the things that made them laugh and the special people they celebrated with. A great way to get to know a new group through their personal visualisations in inky A2 size mono printing. At first they were a bit hesitant of the mess with the ink on their hands, but then readily began to embrace grainy, faded qualities. After this more guided start, then played individually with a variety of tools—drawing with the rollers, scratching into layers, adding coloured details to the monoprints through oil pastels.
