6 COMMON HEALTH PROBLEMS IN CHILDREN
Tumblr media
Children are fragile because they are still growing, and their immune system is still developing. Hence, parents need to be extra careful about their health.
Pre-teens require special attention as they are prone to several common health issues. Though these health problems are common among children, taking responsibility and following proper guidelines can always ensure that these illnesses can be kept at bay in many cases.

Everyone has protein in their blood. The main protein in your blood is called albumin. Proteins have many important jobs in your body, such as helping to build your bones and muscles, prevent infection and control the amount of fluid in your blood.
Healthy kidneys remove extra fluid and waste from your blood, but let proteins and other important nutrients pass through and return to your blood stream. When your kidneys are not working as well as they should, they can let some protein (albumin) escape through their filters, into your urine. When you have protein in your urine, it is called proteinuria (or albuminuria). Having protein in your urine can be a sign of nephrotic syndrome, or an early sign of kidney disease.
Anyone can have protein in their urine. You may be more at risk for having it if you have one or more of the risk factors for kidney disease, such as:
• Diabetes
• High blood pressure
• Family history of kidney disease
When your kidneys are first starting to have problems, and you do not have a lot of protein in your urine, you will not notice any symptoms. The only way to know if you have protein in your urine is to have a urine test. The test for protein in the urine measures the amount of albumin in your urine, compared to the amount of creatinine in your urine. This is called the urine albumin-to-creatinine ratio (UACR). A UACR more than 30 mg/g can be a sign of kidney disease.
When your kidney damage gets worse and large amounts of protein escape through your urine, you may notice the following symptoms:
• Foamy, frothy or bubbly-looking urine when you use the toilet
• Swelling in your hands, feet, abdomen or face
If you are having these symptoms, your kidney damage may already be severe. Talk to your health care provider immediately about what may be causing your symptoms and what treatment is best for you.
If you have diabetes or high blood pressure, the first and second most common causes of kidney disease, it is important to make sure these conditions are under control by homeopathy.

Don't let the rain dampen your spirits! Vaccinations can shield you and your family from monsoon illnesses. Learn how vaccinations protect you from common rain-related diseases. Find a pediatrician near you: Dr. Prashant Gandhi, Borivali West.
The monsoon brings a welcome respite from the scorching summer heat. But along with the pitter-patter of raindrops comes an increased risk of catching rain-related illnesses. Stagnant water, high humidity, and the spread of mosquitoes create breeding grounds for bacteria and viruses.
While maintaining good hygiene and following safety precautions are crucial, vaccinations offer a powerful layer of defense against these monsoon health woes. Let's explore how vaccinations can shield you and your family from common rain-related illnesses:
Dengue Fever: This mosquito-borne viral infection can cause high fever, severe headache, muscle and joint pains, and a rash. Getting vaccinated against dengue can significantly reduce your risk of contracting the disease and developing severe complications.
Malaria: Another mosquito-borne illness, malaria causes chills, fever, sweating, and muscle aches. While there's no current vaccine for malaria, consulting a pediatrician near you (such as Dr. Prashant Gandhi in Borivali West) about preventive measures and using mosquito repellents is essential during monsoon.
Hepatitis A: This liver infection spreads through contaminated food or water. Vaccination is highly effective in preventing Hepatitis A, a crucial safeguard during the monsoon when hygiene practices might be compromised due to frequent travel and outdoor activities.
Typhoid: Caused by contaminated food or water, typhoid leads to fever, headache, weakness, and stomach pain. Vaccination is the best way to prevent typhoid, especially for children and individuals with weaker immune systems.
Japanese Encephalitis: Spread by infected mosquitoes, Japanese Encephalitis affects the brain and can cause fever, headaches, and seizures. Vaccination is critical for protecting yourself from this debilitating disease, especially if you live in or travel to high-risk areas.
Finding the Right Vaccinations for Your Needs
Consulting a pediatrician near you is vital to determine the most suitable vaccinations for you and your family. Factors like age, health conditions, travel plans, and local disease prevalence will be considered when creating a personalized vaccination schedule.
Here in Borivali West, Dr. Prashant Gandhi, a highly regarded pediatrician, can guide you through the recommended vaccinations and address any concerns you might have.
Remember:
Stay up-to-date on your vaccinations: Regularly check with your pediatrician to ensure you and your family are current on recommended vaccinations. Maintain good hygiene: Wash hands frequently with soap and water, especially before eating and after using the restroom. Practice safe water consumption: Drink boiled or purified water, and avoid consuming beverages with ice from unreliable sources. Protect yourself from mosquito bites: Wear long-sleeved clothing and mosquito repellent when venturing outdoors, especially during dusk and dawn when mosquitoes are most active. By following these tips and getting vaccinated, you can significantly reduce your risk of contracting rain-related illnesses and enjoy the monsoon season to the fullest.

How to Support Your Child’s Mental Health?
In today’s fast-paced world, ensuring the well-being of our children goes beyond physical health; it encompasses their mental and emotional states too. As parents, guardians, or caregivers, it’s imperative to prioritize and actively support your child’s mental health. Here’s a comprehensive guide to help you navigate this crucial aspect of parenting.
Understanding Child Mental Health
Childhood mental health refers to the emotional, psychological, and social well-being of children. It encompasses how children think, feel, and behave. Just like physical health, mental health is essential for overall well-being and functioning. Common mental health concerns in children include anxiety disorders, depression, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and behavioral disorders.
Signs of Mental Health Issues in Children
Recognizing the signs of mental health issues early is key to providing timely support. Look out for changes in behavior, mood swings, persistent sadness, withdrawal from social activities, changes in sleep or appetite patterns, difficulty concentrating, and unexplained physical complaints.
Tumblr media
Building a Supportive Environment
Open Communication: Foster a supportive environment where your child feels comfortable expressing their thoughts and feelings. Encourage open communication without judgment.
Establish Routine: Consistency and structure provide a sense of security for children. Establish a daily routine that includes ample time for play, relaxation, and family bonding.
Promote Healthy Habits: Encourage regular physical activity, healthy eating habits, and sufficient sleep. Physical well-being is closely linked to mental health.
Limit Screen Time: Excessive screen time, especially on devices like smartphones and tablets, can have adverse effects on a child’s mental health. Set limits on screen time and encourage alternative activities such as outdoor play and hobbies.
Seeking Professional Help
Consulting a pediatrician or mental health professional is essential if you notice concerning signs or symptoms in your child. A pediatrician can assess your child’s overall health and refer you to a mental health specialist if necessary.
Role of the Pediatrician
Pediatricians play a crucial role in promoting and supporting child mental health. They provide routine check-ups to monitor your child’s physical and emotional development. During these visits, pediatricians may inquire about your child’s behavior, emotions, and social interactions to identify any potential concerns.
Pediatricians can offer guidance on parenting strategies, behavioral interventions, and resources for supporting your child’s mental health. They may also screen for common mental health conditions and provide referrals to mental health professionals for further evaluation and treatment if needed.
Tips for Finding the Best Pediatrician
When selecting a pediatrician for your child, consider the following:
Qualifications and Experience: Look for a pediatrician who is board-certified and has experience working with children of all ages.
Communication Style: Choose a pediatrician who listens to your concerns, respects your parenting decisions, and communicates effectively.
Accessibility: Consider the pediatrician's location, office hours, and availability for appointments, especially in case of emergencies.
Compatibility: Trust your instincts and choose the best pediatrician with whom you feel comfortable discussing your child's health and well-being.
Conclusion
Supporting your child’s mental health is a continuous journey that requires patience, understanding, and proactive effort. By creating a nurturing environment, promoting healthy habits, and seeking professional help when needed, you can empower your child to thrive emotionally and mentally. Remember, you are not alone in this journey; your pediatrician and mental health professionals are valuable allies in supporting your child’s well-being.
