Amphibia: Thai Feud & Adventures in Catsitting Details

Ok these 2 episodes are really fun and chill to watch! Seeing how each of Anne's parents interact with the Plantars are really interesting! I also like how they're researching about a way back to Amphibia in the background while they're doing their shenanigans. Anyways, here's some details I noticed while watching the episodes!

More Than Words - Four

My apologies - I wanted this part out yesterday, and the last part for White Day, but sometimes things don’t always go to plan. But we’ll get there. And for those that are liking this little tumblr fic, there’s a distinct possibility that this AU may end up as a chapter fic. But not for a while - I don’t want to begin it before finishing up some of the other things I’m working on.

Kagome couldn’t help but smile as she reached absentmindedly into the back of her desk drawer to find her stapler, and her fingers encountered the pile of plastic takeaway coffee cup lids instead. Maybe it was childish, but the first time Inuyasha had drawn on her coffee lid, she’d had the sudden urge to keep it, rinsing it off as soon as she’d finished her coffee and placing it in her desk drawer at work.

The next day, on a sudden impulse, she packed two of the raspberry coconut muffins she’d baked the night before for Inuyasha and Sango. She’d gone extra early, arriving as they opened so she wouldn’t hold up the line. Handing them over as she bought her coffee with a slight blush, unsure if what she was doing was weird, she’d held her breath a little, wondering what would happen. Sango had thanked her effusively, but it was Inuyasha’s response that made her heart turn over. He’d immediately pounced on the paper bag, grabbing out a muffin to take a huge bite, and moaned appreciatively at the taste, his eyes closed as he chewed and swallowed the mouthful. When he’d handed over her coffee cup, there was a little muffin drawn on the lid, surrounded by a heart, and she hadn’t been able to help the little giggle she’d let out, especially when he’d arched one dark eyebrow and grinned at her roguishly.

Over the past two weeks, her collection of coffee lid art had grown; flowers, cats, stars, and this morning a little dog with the kanji (which she worked out after a little bit of googling) for inu. Her baking repertoire had also increased, especially when Sango explained for Inuyasha that he didn’t have a kitchen in his little studio apartment above the coffee shop when she’d asked him if he liked to cook. She’d baked cookies, brownies and little apple pastries, but it seemed to be muffins that he liked the best. Last night she’d decided to experiment with Japanese flavours a little, and the matcha and sweet azuki bean muffins she’d handed to Sango this morning had got her best response yet – he’d actually come out from behind his counter and given her a hug, lifting her up off the ground as he squeezed his strong arms around her and spun her around, making her laugh.

She took that lid out of her desk drawer and examined this morning’s drawing with a smile - a little dog with a serious expression and one arched eyebrow, reminding her of the man who drew him. She sighed, replacing the lid and grabbing her stapler, tapping it on the desk in irritation. She’d been trying to get up the courage to ask him out. She’d been going to do it this morning, but every time those amber eyes met hers, she was suddenly lost for words. She was pretty sure he liked her, that hug this morning had been a little longer than strictly necessary for someone who’d given a small gift of baked goods. She closed her eyes, imagining those strong arms around her again. A sudden tap on her shoulder nearly made her fling the stapler into the air in fright.

“A little jumpy today are we? I hope it’s nothing more than a wicked plot to steal extra post it notes from the stationary cupboard.”

Kagome whirled around and slapped her sniggering friend in the side with the back of her hand. “Miroku – don’t sneak up on me like that!” He snorted.

“Believe me, there was no sneaking involved. I’d already called out your name twice.”

“Oh.”

“Daydreaming of burly baristas again? Why don’t you just ask the guy out if you’re so hung up on him?”

Kagome sighed. “It’s not quite that easy. He’s still learning English, and I’ve only just started learning Japanese again.” She’d started an online course, but only had time to study on the weekends at the moment until the end of month budget was done.

Miroku grinned at her. “News just in Kagome – tonsil hockey and the horizontal tango require no words at all.”

“Ugh. Remind me why I’m friends with you again?”

“Because I’m an adorable scoundrel.”

“Says you.” She grinned at him. “Which reminds me – it’s Friday – time to pay up.” Miroku groaned and reached for his back pocket, retrieving his wallet.

“How many coffees this week?”

“Twenty.”

“Twenty!” He stared at her, aghast. “My god Kagome, how do you not have a heart murmur or something!” he exclaimed, counting out the notes and plonking them down on the desk in front of her. “Thankfully, my dear Sango is worth it.”

“Wait, she actually went out with you again? I thought you said she slapped you!”

“It was a misunderstanding”, he said smoothly, “all good now.” Kagome raised an eyebrow at him and he chuckled. “I’m meeting her after work tonight – going to one of her classes actually. She teaches akido a couple of times a week.”

Kagome grinned at him. “How do you know this isn’t an excuse for her to take another swing at you?” she teased. But she was glad. Sango was lovely – they’d gradually been increasing their short conversations when she bought coffee when it wasn’t too busy, and she seemed like someone who could be a good friend.  

Miroku leaned against her desk, seemingly ready for a chat. “Apparently it’s where she met Inuyasha – he’d put something on the notice board at the gym about needing someone to work with him at his coffee shop who spoke Japanese. Why don’t you come do the class too? You’ve barely left your desk all day.”

Kagome sighed and shook her head. “Too much to do. This has to be finished before I can leave tonight.”

Miroku stood, giving her a commiserating pat on the shoulder as he left her office. “I’d better let you get back to it then. Don’t let them work you too hard Kagome!”

Kagome panted as she headed back towards her apartment after her run around the park, jogging a little slower now to cool down. It was late, much later than she would usually go for a run, but she knew she wouldn’t sleep well if she went straight to bed after sitting at her desk all day. Maybe it might be time to invest in a treadmill for nights like this? She’d been hyper alert the whole time she’d run around the park, but it had been fine – the park was well lit and she’d had no trouble. Now she was only a block from home. She jogged on the spot as she waited for the lights to change. Nearly there. She couldn’t wait to get in the shower and let the heat penetrate her tired muscles.

She didn’t even have time to shriek when the hard sweaty hand went over her mouth and she was dragged backwards into the alleyway. She kicked out, trying to stomp on her attacker’s feet, but her soft running shoes did little, only making the hand around her mouth tighten. She gasped as she was shoved up against the damp brick, the back of her head connecting with a solid thud. The hand over her mouth shifted downwards so that it was pushing back on her neck, the sharpness of broken fingernails digging into her skin, and her eyes widened as the light glanced off the steak knife suddenly shoved in her face.

“Money! Gimme your money!”. The voice was male and agitated. She couldn’t see a face in the darkness, but she could see the hand that gripped the knife was sweaty and shaking.

“Don’t have money”, she managed to wheeze around the hand constricting her throat. “Only my phone.”

“Stupid bitch!” The hand tightened around her throat again, pulling her head forward and slamming it backwards against the wall behind her again, hard enough for her to see stars. Before she could react the hand was gone, with only the sound of sprinting feet letting her know that her attacker had left. She slumped down the wall, sliding to rest on her behind in a grimy puddle.

She knew she should get up and go home, but she was shaking so much she couldn’t move. Her ears were ringing a little, the back of her head was throbbing, and when she moved her hand to touch her throat, her fingers came away wet with blood. Not much, but enough to make her whimper in dismay. The thought of going back to her apartment and being alone filled her with fear.

Suddenly she had a memory of strong arms holding her, lifting her. Staggering to her feet, she began to walk, then run in the direction of the coffee shop, and the man that was beginning to take up large portion of her heart.

ART SCHOOL | INTERVIEW WITH JUSTINE JONES

Baltimore based artist and illustrator Justine Jones creates her vein of psychedelic fantasy horror drawings–filled with tiny black lines and an occasional pop of bright colors–which have been featured on the covers of Kobold Press and Warlock magazine. Using the hashtag #VisibleWomen to amplify the voices and portfolios of women comic artists, Justine has be able to do more illustrative work and character design. We’re excited to find out more about Justine’s artistic journey, her love of role-playing games, comics, art, her influences and much more. . .  Take the leap!

Introduce yourself?    Hi, I’m Justine!  I’ve lived in Baltimore Maryland for the past decade and currently live in a small apartment downtown with my partner and my shiba inu Mo, who is a cool and grumpy guy.

How would you describe your work to someone who is just coming across it? I used to call it storybook surrealism, but now I guess it’s more like psychedelic fantasy horror?  Monsters and Wizards.  Lots of tiny black lines, sometimes with lots of bright intense colors.

How did you start from doodling and drawing to what you do now? I feel like it sort of happened organically.  When I was younger, I would do just pencil drawings, and then in my late teens, I got more into using micron pens.  I didn’t really discover color until a few years ago, so I’m a huge color noob.  I think a lot of it also came from working in comic shops for years and going to conventions.  Seeing all of these amazing artists grow, and thinking hey, I could maybe also do that! I first started with t-shirt designs because it just seemed really fun, and I used to have a really hard time selling prints.  People don’t need more prints, but they can always use clothes!  Now i’m getting more into illustrative work and character design, and I’m loving it!

Who and what were some of your early artistic influences? When I was a baby, my dad hung an Aubrey Beardsley print over my crib.  My mom thought it would make me deranged, and maybe it did, but it also made me love ink work and Art Nouveau style haha.  I was obsessed with sword and sorcery stuff and loooved cartoons like He-Man and She-ra, and later, Pirates of Darkwater. I also spent a lot of time in elementary school copying sexy comic book ladies from 90s comics, and I know that is pretty far from what I do now, but it’s honestly how I learned to draw.  I also copied a lot from children’s storybooks when I was little.  

What are some things that inspire the drawings you make? What are some of your favorite creatures and beings you like to explore in your art? Video games are a huge inspiration to me, from SNES JRPGs, to games like Dark Souls and Bloodborne.  Also folklore and mythology from around the world, and fantasy artwork from the 70’s, 80’s, and 90’s.  Basically anything fantasy.  My favorite things to draw are wizards and monsters.  I love body horror, anything disgusting and beautiful at the same time.  I take a lot of inspiration from Manga, like Berserk, or anything Junji Ito.  I’ve done a lot of Illustrations for Clark Ashton Smith stories, which I find endlessly inspiring, visually.  Just like, fantasy/ sci fi/ dying earth type stuff.

When did you start collaborating with Kobold Press on creating some awesome fantasy art covers for their publications?  I remember getting the email from them when I was on the way to Necronomicon Providence in 2017.  I thiiiink they found my stuff through the visible women hashtag on twitter?  I was very excited because I owned some of their adventures from back in the day when I played Pathfinder!!  Plus, I have always always wanted to draw things for table top RPGs, so it’s been really cool to actually do it! The Warlock mag that I’ve been doing covers for is awesome because it’s going for an old school DND vibe, but it’s all things that are made for 5th edition.  You can get it on their patreon, and I hiiiighly recommend it to anyone who plays 5e dnd!!  

Take us through your artistic process? What’s a typical day in the studio like? Haha extremely chaotic!  I don’t even have a real set workspace, which I really need to change, I just draw where ever. Just chill out, listen to music or a podcast, and draw.  If I’m further along in a drawing and don’t need to focus so much, I’ll watch movies or video gameπ– let’s plays while I’m drawing.  I also love to listen to/ watch things that are in theme with what I’m drawing, to give me some inspiration.  I try to go to coffee shops to change things up sometimes!  Basically I just do a bunch of sketches until something materializes, and then I will just slowly refine the sketch.  I guess it’s not that exciting, but it’s cool to see the first sketch and the finished product because in my head, the sketch always looked like the finished product, but when you go back to look at it, it’s usually just indecipherable scribbles.

What are your essential art tools and materials? 90% of my art is just done using a .05 mechanical pencil and micron pens.  I also draw everything on smooth bristol.  If I have time and want to make my lines super crisp before I scan them in, i will use a light box.   Then for color, I generally use Kyle T Webster brushes in Photoshop with my Wacom tablet.   If I’m on the go, I like to draw things in Procreate on my iPad Pro, but I’m definitely not as good at doing detailed lines digitally.  

What do you do when you’re not drawing or working on projects? How do you unplug? Haha, I wish I ever truly unplugged, I think my brain is now melded into the internet!  But mostly I love to play video games.  JRPGs and anything From Software/ Soulsborne (currently obsessed with Sekiro!)  I also love comics and manga.  I’ve been reading The Girl From the Other Side, which is a beautiful dark fairytale Manga by Nagabe.  I also just got one called Witch Hat Atelier, which has the most amazing art! My partner also owns an insane amount of board games, so we play a lot of those.  I’m obsessed with coffee, and work part time at a coffee shop, and my favorite thing in the world to do is eat good food.    

What has been the most challenging project you’ve worked on? How did you overcome those obstacles and what did you take away from it? I made a kind of cosmic horror short story in mini comic form last year for SPX, I had very little time,  and it was my first time actually writing a story/ dialogue to go with my pictures.  It was insanely challenging.  I ended up with a finished product that I’m really proud of and that I’ve gotten a lot of positive feedback on.  I think it really drove home the fact that I just need to stick with things and finish them, even if I don’t feel like they’re perfect.  I’m never going to have the time that I want, and I’m never going to feel like anything is perfect.  I can still make a great thing!  

What advice would you give someone who wants to follow in your footsteps and pursue art? Don’t spend 4 years doing nothing, but playing World of Warcraft (Or doooo?).  Uhhh, believe in yourself.  Be nice to other artists.  Draw all the time! Immerse yourself in things that inspire you!  Also, like I said before, things don’t need to be perfect.  Let go of perfect, because sometimes it’s an unattainable ideal.  Just do as good as you can, and don’t beat yourself up so much!  I’m horrible at advice!!!

What’s your best Art School tip that you want to share with folks?   Haha, I moved to Baltimore to go to MICA like, 14 years ago, and then realized I was poor, and would never be able to go to MICA… sooo… I never went to real art school.  I wanted to go so bad, and I still wish I’d had that experience, but I want other people who can’t afford it to know that you don’t NEED it.  Things are a bit harder, but you can find so much free info online if you have the drive, you can teach yourself so many things.  Don’t get discouraged just because art school isn’t gonna happen for you.

What are your favorite style of VANS? I love my lavender/ sea fog Authentic Vans, because they basically go with anything, but I am always eyeing those Sk8-His.

Anything you can share that is coming up?   Ahhhh, I have some realllly cool things that I can’t share yet, but just everyone keep an eye out (It will be very exciting, i swear)!!  As for things I can share, I’m working on some new t-shirt designs, and another comic, and also plan on drawing some more cool wizards in my spare time.   So if you wanna see some cool wizards, uhhh, come to my Instagram–you guys!  Let’s hang out and look at wizards.  And talk about wizards.  And if you don’t like wizards well, don’t come I guess.

All Because of a Piney Bough

With Kagome in her first year at Yokohama N.U., as far as mama Higurashi was concerned, the winter break was one time of year she was required to be home for visits aside from summer.  Mrs. Higurashi sometimes missed the days when her daughter and friends would hang out on weekends keeping the shrine home so nice and lively.  But now, they had scattered like the four winds… well sort of, for Miroku had followed his girlfriend Sango to Tsukuba University, and Inuyasha followed his best friend to Yokohama.

Inuyasha… once or maybe still was Miroku’s best friend, yet now her daughters…  Actually, mama Higurashi had given up on trying to understand the dynamics between those two.  She was pretty sure they were both in love with each other since meeting 5 years ago and while they were almost attached at the hip, dated other people through high school.  It made, no sense.  Either way, she adored the Hanyo because as long as he was around, she never had to worry about her daughter’s safety.

Mrs. Higurashi figured that the kids would have plans on the holidays themselves, so two days before Christmas found the shrine home buzzing with life again.  Kagome had come home from college the prior week with Inuyasha in tow.  Sango and Miroku were back from Tsukuba, and Kohaku, Sango’s younger brother had also been able to make it to the party.  It was like old times, Mrs. Higurashi sighed as she finished the last touches on her Christmas Wagashi’s.  

“Here’s the K.F.C.,” Inuyasha places the two large buckets of fried chicken on the counter, “you sure this is enough for all of us?”

She wipes her hands on a towel and checks the boxes.  “Thank you dear, but I have other things already made as well,” she smiles at the young man.

“Mmm, I can’t wait!” he rubs his stomach, “you always make the best foods!”

Mrs. Higurashi just chuckles and shoos him out of the kitchen before he tries to sneak anything. “Could you let everyone know dinner will be ready in 30 minutes?”

“Sure…”

Two hours later now fed and satiated, most of the group relaxes in the living room, centered around watching the two teenagers play some kind of video game on the screen.  The adults chat while sipping tea or coffee, with Sango and Miroku talking about their first semester in a new city. After many years of suffering from prolonged and severe PTSD, anxiety and depression, I had said “ENOUGH!” to myself after I made the stupidest decision of my life a month ago.

I was scammed 12 thousand dollars by a man who had claimed he was a landlord for an apartment building. He saw my ad on Kijiji. This had happened in a course of 3 weeks. He knew my situation, since we all need someone to talk to. But, I need to say something.

I learned this the hard way. I haven't spoke to my therapist in 3 weeks and I was testifying against my father who molested me multiple times as a child in a couple of days. I worked hard to get over this traumatic experience, and received Victims Compensation for it. I remember it clearly. I was at McDonald's eating a delicious Sausage and egg McMuffin before I did my grocery shopping. I was waking up, hungry and did not take my antidepressants because the pharmacy screwed up my order.

I was beyond excited. I was to be married to the love of my life that I met on the online game Final Fantasy 14, and needed an apartment for us to start our lives together. So, anyone who is suffering from Mental illness, I assure you; everything will be okay. Life will throw some really heavy and hard to dodge curve balls at you. As a Cancer Survivor I have learned to embrace life, and as a Scam victim I have learned to not taking anything for granted, and to NEVER let anyone take advantage of me ever again.

Hello, I’ve never shopped at Inu Inu myself and have actually heard some unfortunate things about their store. 

I haven’t written a post up about it myself, but I did find this one that basically outlines what they did wrong. Here is another post, a lot longer with greater detail. 

In short:

They are incredibly overpriced. You can find these exact items on other stores, ebay, aliexpress, etc for MUCH much cheaper

They target smaller stores who sell the same products and go after them claiming copyrights even though they do not own the original products or design since they are all from the same manufacturer

They ripped off one of their manufacturers by ordering loads of stock but refused to pay for over ~4500 products

They block anybody who tries to call them out

Horrible customer service 

If you’ve ordered from them and you haven’t got your item yet, I’d still wait it out. It can take weeks to months for a package to arrive, but if you’re thinking about ordering then I wouldn’t. While they’re popular, there are so many other alternative stores - with good customer service and prices to shop at, here are a few:
