 LAMINATE FLOORING CARE/MAINTENANCE TIPS
Laminate flooring has come a long way since its creation in 1977. Most flooring during that time came in rolls and was glued down. Nowadays, modern laminate flooring comes in planks like wood flooring and is typically installed without glue. Due to its realistic visual appearance, Laminate Flooring is often mistaken for real hardwood and tile flooring. One thing that hasn’t changed much over the years is the care and maintenance that laminates flooring requires. This flooring can last for years if taken care of properly. Here are some tips to help you maintain your laminate floors.

 Preventative Maintenance
 Clean Spills Quickly
Excessive water and moisture are not compatible with laminate flooring.. Spills are not bad, as the flooring can withstand liquids on top, but be sure to clean them up as quickly as possible. If water sits on the floors too long, it can get under the flooring and cause it to become warped and swollen.
Use Mats
Kitchens and bathrooms are very popular places to install laminate flooring. Position mats around areas where water is likely to get on the floors, like sinks, tubs and showers. Another place floors can become damaged is around pet bowls, so be sure to place a mat under those as well!
Avoid Scratches
Place furniture pads under the legs of couches, tables, chairs and TV stands. Also, be sure to keep pet nails trimmed. One exciting dash around the house could cause the thin protective layer to be scratched off allowing water to seep into the flooring.
Cleaning Tips
 Avoid Cleaners that Promote Shine
Often these types of cleaners are full of waxes. These waxes will build up and are very difficult to remove.
No Pine-Scented Cleaners
These cleaners will leave a dull, soapy residue behind and will cause your floors to look dirty.
Mopping
Damp mopping (very little water) is okay. However, the traditional mop and bucket is bad. This is allowing too much water to go down on the floors and cause the problems mentioned above. Many people love vinegar and hot water to clean floors. Small amounts of vinegar on the damp mop will be fine but too much can strip the protective layer on the laminate floors. There are laminate specific cleaners on the market. See what the manufacturer recommends and stick with that.
Sweep Often
Use a soft bristle broom to clean up pet hair, dirt and debris. There is no such thing are over sweeping, so sweep daily is possible.
