 LAMINATE FLOORING CARE/MAINTENANCE TIPS
Laminate flooring has come a long way since its creation in 1977. Most flooring during that time came in rolls and was glued down. Nowadays, modern laminate flooring comes in planks like wood flooring and is typically installed without glue. Due to its realistic visual appearance, Laminate Flooring is often mistaken for real hardwood and tile flooring. One thing that hasn’t changed much over the years is the care and maintenance that laminates flooring requires. This flooring can last for years if taken care of properly. Here are some tips to help you maintain your laminate floors.
Tumblr media
 Preventative Maintenance
 Clean Spills Quickly
Excessive water and moisture are not compatible with laminate flooring.. Spills are not bad, as the flooring can withstand liquids on top, but be sure to clean them up as quickly as possible. If water sits on the floors too long, it can get under the flooring and cause it to become warped and swollen.
Use Mats
Kitchens and bathrooms are very popular places to install laminate flooring. Position mats around areas where water is likely to get on the floors, like sinks, tubs and showers. Another place floors can become damaged is around pet bowls, so be sure to place a mat under those as well!
Avoid Scratches
Place furniture pads under the legs of couches, tables, chairs and TV stands. Also, be sure to keep pet nails trimmed. One exciting dash around the house could cause the thin protective layer to be scratched off allowing water to seep into the flooring.
Cleaning Tips
 Avoid Cleaners that Promote Shine
Often these types of cleaners are full of waxes. These waxes will build up and are very difficult to remove.
No Pine-Scented Cleaners
These cleaners will leave a dull, soapy residue behind and will cause your floors to look dirty.
Mopping
Damp mopping (very little water) is okay. However, the traditional mop and bucket is bad. This is allowing too much water to go down on the floors and cause the problems mentioned above. Many people love vinegar and hot water to clean floors. Small amounts of vinegar on the damp mop will be fine but too much can strip the protective layer on the laminate floors. There are laminate specific cleaners on the market. See what the manufacturer recommends and stick with that.
Sweep Often
Use a soft bristle broom to clean up pet hair, dirt and debris. There is no such thing are over sweeping, so sweep daily is possible.
If you can follow these simple tips, then your floors will last for years! Laminate floor has been a go-to for many homeowners for years. DO’S AND DON’TS ON CARING FOR HARDWOOD FLOORING
Hardwood floors are a statement in any home. They are beautiful, durable and often tell a story. So taking care of them is very important. Most homeowners have tried a lot of different ways to care for their hardwoods, but there are a lot of cleaning myths you should avoid. Here are a few “Dos and Don’ts” for caring for your hardwood floors.
Do keep a mat at the entrances of your home.
This will help knock down the amount of dirt tracked into your home. The bottom of shoes can hold a lot of dirt and debris. So, your shoes can cause scratches and scuffs, but if there is a mat at the entrances then it will help reduce that rick.
Do vacuum and sweep.
You should often sweep and vacuum your hardwood floors. This will help keep debris off your floors and reduce the chances of scratches.
Don’t use water to mop hardwood floors.
Everyone thinks hot sudsy water will clean your hardwoods. However, this is far from the truth. In fact, water is a hardwood floors worst enemy and can cause permanent damage.
Do use furniture pads.
Place a pad under each furniture leg that’s in contact with your floors. Furniture will move during use and it will cause pesky scratches that will require repair.
 Don’t use oils.
Oils, such as Murphy Oil, can be very harmful to hardwood floors and can cause permanent damage. Using oils can strip the finish way exposing your floor and making it more susceptible to damage.
Don’t hesitate to install hardwoods in your home.
This isn’t a tip for caring for hardwoods, but it is important that everyone knows that adding hardwood in any room in your home is a good move. Hardwood will only help increase the value of your home.
This is a short list of the do’s and don’ts for hardwood care. Your hardwoods say a lot about your home, so caring for them is very important. If you follow these few tips, your floors will stay looking new! For all your hardwood needs, please contact the experts at Concept Flooring!
