i think i adore janeway and picard in equal measure tbh, depending on who i’m talking about, I’ll sing their praises because i love the characters and the performance and every insane thing these two paragons of captaincy, but it’s just. they’re both legendary to me. but i can’t weigh one against the other, properly, tbh.

i massively prefer chakotay over riker, ngl. like i do genuinely think riker is likeable but he’s moody and exhausting at odd times and jonathan frakes has incredible charisma and charm, and i’m sure his acting also contributes to the… jockishness of the character? but there’s still something about him that i like him more than i feel i should, i think. but chakotay… idk what it is, bc i can agree that he’s underwritten, but robert betrain is just… mellow. he is possibly too chill, and not enough of a noticeable contrast to lunatics like janeway and torres, but i’m also just. happy and comforted he’s there. the way he mediates and hears people out before deciding how to proceed. he’s just soothing, for some reason.

A lot of lessons learned today. I competed against three men on average 20 years younger than me, two outweighed me by over 100 pounds, the other has a solid 30 pounds muscles on me. And you know what I learned about jiujitsu? How much my love for you continues to grow in many ways because of practicing Jiujitsu at Paragon. Jiujitsu athletes love people. We love life. As much as Jiu-Jitsu looks and is a physical combat sport. The overall majority of people in the Jiu-Jitsu community are loving, caring, people interested in making the world a better place. There's a reason why Jiu-Jitsu continues to be the world's fastest growing sport. The answer is love. Self love. Love for others. Love for health, self-defense, competition, and community. Ah, good. The PNW coastline has a habit of having betrainered feet wash up there.

(It's not that weird - people drown in the Pacific Ocean, their bodies rot, and their feet detatch because it's a weak point. However, the plastic of the trainer preserves the foot inside the shoe. OK, it is a bit weird. Kinda fascinating though. About 14 feet washed up between 2010 and 2019.)

First time I draw Madlax and Limelda. Madlax is one of my favorite animes from all time, and they are my otp. I love the way their complex relationship is built thorough the series. Prompt: Kell teaching Lila how to ride a horse.

|| VAGUE SPOILER WARNING; DO NOT READ IF YOU HAVE NOT                                              FINISHED A CONJURING OF LIGHT. ||    “You said I would get to learn something new.” Betrayalrang in her voice – Lila didn’t bother with closing the distance between them. 

She was a natural thief, a near perfect liar, and a more than decent magician.                                   But Delilah Bard was no rider.

“Lila – this is new. You don’t know how to ridea horse, let alone pet one. How do you expect to get anywhere?” There was mirthin his voice and Lila could tell he found her reaction perfectly entertaining. Heragitation only seemed to grow as she scuffed the heel of her boot into theground and scoffed. She expected to learn magic – not how to mount some massivebeast that could crush her if it so pleased. She didn’t need to know how to peta horse, nor did she have any use for riding one. She had a ship, two legs, andmagic; what more could she possibly need?

    “I am not getting on that thing.” She left noroom for argument in her tone and folded both arms over her chest. Kell wasshaking his head and rubbing the soft spot of the horse’s nose with hisknuckles. She can see the beginnings of a soft but sly smile blooming acrosshis lips. He turned his attention away from her before speaking.

    “She is afraid of you,” he says quietly, aloud so shecould hear but more to the horse than Lila herself. “The great and powerfulDelilah Bard – I think you’re the only one she might actually fear. Even moreso than death itself.” Lila bristled at the words and found herself trying toglare daggers at his back. She watched them, watched the twitch of the horse’sears and the swish of its tail and heard the soft huff of breath it gave. Shehated it.

“I am not.” The words come out clipped and she triesto ignore the tension and fear trying to pull her in every direction. DelilahBard would not be intimidated by some beast that could apparently betrained to follow commands; it could be saddled, bridled, ridden. And then shewas moving – her feet carried her steadily closer. “If I learn how to ride thisthing, you have to teach me magic.”

“You already know magic.” Kell replied, lifting ashoulder with nonchalance.

“More magic.” Lila emphasized coolly.

“More magic.” He agreed, lips twisting up into asmirk. “I’ll hold him still, stick one foot into the stirrup and swing yourselfup and over.”

Lila stared at the animal, stared even longer at thesupposed foothold and hated that she already rose to the challenge. There wasno way she would back out of it now. She moves closer, bracing a hand whereKell instructed her to and lifted one leg. She tested the strength of thestirrup and held her breath before launching herself up. It wasn’t that hard –but she immediately felt sick. The last time Delilah Bard had ridden ahorse, dark and powerful magic had been coursing through Red London, burningpeople up from the inside, whispering and scraping at the insides of theirskulls.

 “… Lila…Lila?Lila!” Kell’s voice shredded the visions and the dark London faded away. Shebarely heard him over the thundering of her own heart in her head and snappedback at him. “What?” He was staring at her with a mixture of concern and horror,the horse stomping impatiently in place.

“You don’t have to do it.”

Lila huffed a breath at him and loosened her grip. Onehand had curled into the horse’s mane, the other had wound itself tightly intothe reins. She smoothed a hand over it, gave it a pat and loosened her hold. “Howdo you walk this thing?” She chances a glance back and lifts one foot.

“Wait!” Kell held a hand up in warning, almostreaching for her ankle. “Don’t do that, are you insane? He would have taken offand you’d be stranded – assuming you even held on long enough not to fall andnearly kill yourself! I’ll lead him, just have patience.” He expels a breath,raked a hand through his hair and tousled the fiery red of it into furtherchaos.

Lila rolled her eyes and smothered the smile thattried to dance over her lips. He clicked softly and tugged at the reinsgathered closer to the horse’s halter and lead them into a walk. Lila shiftedin the saddle, internally cursing every Saint or God in existence for theeternally terrible discomfort riding a horse brought. Her legs would be weakand aching by the time this was over.

“I don’t have a horse; I can’t even afford ahorse – this is useless.” Kell glanced back at her with a raised brow.

“Lila, you have plenty of money now,” he repliedsoftly. And her cheeks flushed under his sudden studying. She wondered if hecould tell that she kept her meals small and her funds tight – as if it all mightslip away from her suddenly. “And you know Rhy would give you any horse youwanted.” Rhy would likely give her anything she wanted.

“Aren’t you supposed to be teaching me? I just feellike a kid being given a privileged pony ride.” She complained, slouchingslightly. And then suddenly the walk turned into a trot and Lila nearly slippedfrom her place. Kell’s laughter rang back to her as he jogged along with thehorse, the culprit for the sudden change in pace that she had no idea what tomake of.

Itwas going to be a very long day, and even though her body would ache for itlater, her heart felt full; and Delilah Bard felt very much alive.
