The author is journalist (Beverley Nichols) who bought a dilapidated Georgian mansion with it's run down garden in post-war England. It's a charming, gardening classic with amusing and memorable characters as Our Rose, the ditzy floral designer, and the cantankerous gardener Oldfield, with breathtaking descriptions, and very, funny dialog. This is the 2nd book in the series.

Down the Garden Path is one of the most magical antique books that I own. I’ve learned, since acquiring it, that it’s part of a memoir trilogy of Beverley Nichols’ experiences with gardening and keeping his country estate. His writing is a wonderful mix of richly poetic and witty/down to earth, and there’s just something so soft about it. It feels like knitting with a plush chunky yarn or cocoa in front of a hearth. Discovered a box of books that has been sealed for almost 8 years - such loved favourites - I'm almost beside myself at the thought of rereading the beautiful words of #carolshields - and completely intrigued by those 3 brand new glossy sleeved hardbacks on the left by #beverleynichols - I have no idea who he is or any recollection of buying them but oh they do sound just my cup of tea. Now if we could only have some cool rainy autumn days - just right for reading - I would be completely beside myself! #booksarethebest
