Unrequited love

A mind-boggling question

Manoocher’s untimely death has devastated Forough, his wife and Janan, his daughter, but it has also raised many questions like what Manoochehr wanted to tell the whole family the night of his mother-in-law’s birthday. Was he going to uncover a secret? What was the story behind the text messages on Manoochehr’s phone? Why had Manoochehr lost faith in Forough and her love for him? Both Forough and her only child are confused and cannot make head or tails of the recent happenings. There are many missing pieces to their puzzles. Why had Manoochehr rented an apartment of his own? INNOCENT BIGONAH

The best section of the second episode

Sina, the oldest child in Ata’s family, is crazy about rap music. He is a member of a rap group in which there’s a girl who has been harassed by a man. He shows a lot of chutzpah by going to the man’s clothing store and fobbing himself off as a customer. When the opportunity presents itself, Sina is quick-enough to take the man’s laptop and run away. Later as he is being followed by several people including the police, he throws the laptop, which apparently had some indecent photos of the girl, on the street and it smashes into tiny pieces! (It was absolutely brave of him, kudos to Sina) This part was, hands down, the most intriguing part of this episode.

Love and futility

The relationship between Forough and Bahman had reached a cul-de-sac thanks to Rashid Farshbaf, Forough’s dad. Though we still don’t have a clue as to why Rashid sent his potential son-in-law overseas, suffice to say he made his daughter live with a man she had no feelings for! In her novels, Forough has written about her failure in love and you can feel how desparately in love she had been with the man she had never forgotten all these years.

Me too movement

The youngest daughter of Rashid Farshbaf, Yalda, who is an executive editor of a cultural magazine had intended to interview with a renowned artist who happens to be acquainted with her father. To this end, she invited him to the magazine’s office, where Yalda claimed they served the best coffee! Farhang Kesrati, the host and the interviewee, however, cancelled the meeting on short notice and suggested that Yalda pay him a visit at his apartment instead. Reluctant and disgusted, she refused the invite, but she blew a gasket when she learnt this is a very common practice for Kesrati and he has lured several other women into going to his place and has sexually harassed them. Me too movement has recently gained popularity in Iran and has provided women with the opportunity to publicize their experiences of sexual abuse in an attempt to stop cruelty against women. This plot can thicken in the following episodes.

Bahman’s lucky charm

Mustering up enough courage, Bahman visited the house previously owned by Farshbafs and now inhabited by Mahtab, Bahman’s ex-wife and her mother ( Roya Teymoorian) in Monirieh neighbourhood where he met Mahtab’s indignant  mother. She explicitly asked Bahman not to get in touch with Mahtab as it would devastate her. Bahman later went to the old house’s basement and was able to find the very coin he had hidden there decades ago, his brother’s memento.

Taking the youth into account

Ata (Mehran Ahmadi) is a considerate and caring father who has his daughter’s back, but tries to be next to her, not in front of her. He knows Sarina is keen on photography and uses it as a means to encourage her to be productive and to keep her away from the evil of the society. His wife is an overprotective mum though and her being strict has driven a wedge between Sarina and her.

The world of cryptocurrencies

Janan, Sohrab’s niece, is in a relationship with Vahid, an intimate friend of Sohrab’s. In the first episode, I hope you remember, we saw Vahid was abducted by some men and was later thrown into a giant street dustbin! In this episode, we figured out that Sohrab and his buddy are involved in Bitcoin mining business and the thieves have stolen their codes.
