The Desert School Remember how the Lord your God led you through the wilderness for these forty years, humbling you and testing you to prove your character, and to find out whether or not you would obey his commands. Deuteronomy 8:2 If God had wanted to, He could have taken the Israelites out of Egypt and straight to the Promised Land. Instead, He wanted them in the wilderness for a time. They were, however, in that wilderness longer than they needed to be. They made things a lot harder for themselves. Even so, there are things we can only learn in a wilderness, so to speak. After 40 years, Moses came out of the wilderness to lead his fellow Israelites out of Egypt. And why did the Lord let them go through the wilderness? We find the answer in Deuteronomy 8:2: Remember how the Lord your God led you through the wilderness for these forty years, humbling you and testing you to prove your character, and to find out whether or not you would obey his commands (NLT). Wouldn’t it be nice if the moment you accepted Christ you went to Heaven? You finish praying, and poof! You’re in Heaven. God could do that. But He has us go through life instead. We go through blessings and trials and all kinds of things as He prepares us for Heaven. There are things we learn in the wilderness. Our spiritual roots grow deep when the winds blow because God wants to make us more like Jesus. He’s preparing us for Heaven. And Heaven is a prepared place for prepared people. As a human being, I tend to think of the here and now. In contrast, God thinks more of the by-and-by. I think of the temporal; God thinks of the eternal. I think about what will make me happy; God is more interested in what will make me holy. I look at the small picture; God looks at the big picture. Maybe you’re in a trial right now. God is at work. He allows trials in our lives to help us grow spiritually #devotional #morningdevotion #sbs #christianpost #christiansposts #dailybread #christian #billysigudla (at Brits Letlhabile) https://www.instagram.com/p/CGybqK7joUd/?igshid=13f38jnp61ud7

Maintain a positive mindset Studies in psychology have found a direct link between a person’s emotions and their levels of motivation. People who try to accomplish tasks with a negative mindset are far more likely to quit before accomplishing their goal than those who started out with positive thoughts. For this reason, it is best to think about the positive aspects of your impending workout rather than any negatives. As an example, if you’re heading out for a long run or ride consider how good it will feel to get outdoors, with the wind and the warmth of the sun on your face, rather than how difficult it will be. #mind #motivation #running #billysigudla https://www.instagram.com/p/CGHowrdjq_D/?igshid=esdz9sm23yoo

Prayer for the Church Colossians 1:1-8 Although we’re usually quick to bring God our own requests and the needs of loved ones, we must also remember to pray for our local churches. If you’re not sure where to start, the apostle Paul’s writings offer some help. Today’s passage, from his letter to the Colossian believers, expresses gratitude for what the Lord has done in four specific areas of their lives: Faith. God’s salvation is something we should never take for granted. Thank Him for bringing the gospel to the people in your church and giving them the faith to believe. Love. Ask the Lord to increase their love for one another so they can respond—both inside and outside the church—as Christ would.  Hope. Pray that the hope of heaven would be their focus rather than the fleeting pleasures and values of this world. Truth. Praise the Lord for the gospel, which has been proclaimed in your church. Ask that it would bear fruit and increase so more people will understand its truth and receive God’s grace. Let’s make it a habit, perhaps daily, to spend time praying for our church and pastor, asking God to accomplish His will through them. #Christian #christianposts #billysigudla (at Brits Letlhabile) https://www.instagram.com/p/CGBvgxfjSsB/?igshid=1ktbiv43t5ldl
