Into the Wild: 9/10
This is where this whole series started. Rusty enters the forest and becomes Firepaw. He learns to protect and defend his Clan, even with enemies all around him. It’s a classic.
The writing in this book felt better then the rest of the books. It was mysterious, especially since we are getting introduced to this new world of Clans. I loved Yellowfang, and her friendship with Firepaw. Graypaw and Ravenpaw were also very memorable characters! They had a lot of cute scenes together, just guys being dudes. And Bluestar had slight foreshadowing to her downfall after Lionheart’s death. At first glance it seems normal but knowing what happens to her makes you go back to try and find all that foreshadowing.
In that same vein, the book brought up a lot of stuff that never comes into play again, or mentions unimportant details. The Erins hadn’t developed their writing style yet, (which is a compliment if you look at the rest of the series... /s) and ThunderClan was as new and mysterious to them as it was to us.
I think that Tigerclaw shouldn’t have been set up as the obvious villain until much later in the book. Like maybe hold off on his clear evilness until at least midway through the book.
But overall, I knew what I was getting myself into. As always, I remove one point for the simple fact that it was written by Erin Hunter, but otherwise it’s a solid book. Summary is here, or on my carrd. Quotes that I liked are here.
I give Into the Wild 9 brands of fire out of 10.
