Lawyers to Help the Russian Crypto Industry Deal With Inadequate Laws
In the absence of a comprehensive regulatory framework for cryptocurrencies in Russia, lawyers have taken matters into their own hands. A new advisory body of legal experts will look into cases where the current legislation does not reflect the specifics of the growing digital economy and propose solutions.

Legal Commission to Solve Problems Stemming From the Lack of Proper Rules
During a round table discussion on these issues, the Russian Lawyers Association and an educational organization called Blockchain Lawyers have agreed to establish a specialized commission that will address the legal challenges in the crypto industry. It will also work with companies in other related sectors such as blockchain development, artificial intelligence, quantum technologies and the internet of things.
The commission’s main task will be to provide answers to outstanding questions and solve problems arising from the lack of proper crypto regulations, the Russian outlet Bitcrypto News reported. The participants in the round table expressed confidence that the new body will be able to give legal definitions to many new economic and technological phenomena in the digital space.
The members of the commission will help projects and organizations in the industry to overcome specific challenges. Some of them are related to accounting and taxation, for example. The Russian government currently treats cryptocurrencies as “other property.” In the case of ICO tokens, however, the digital coins can also represent property rights. The problem is that the Russian tax code applies different rates to these two categories.
According to Mikhail Uspenskiy, partner at the law firm Taxology, keeping accounting records competently will be extremely difficult until Russian lawmakers finally adopt new laws to clearly define the legal nature of cryptocurrencies and tokens. However, the lower house of Russia’s parliament, the State Duma, has postponed the adoption of the legislation that was filed this past spring.
Russian Authorities Favor Conservative Approach to Crypto Regulation
After introducing a number of changes to the original texts, Russian deputies eventually dropped several key terms such as “cryptocurrency” and “mining” from the main bill, the law “On Digital Financial Assets.” Representatives of the crypto industry protested against its latest version and even proposed their own, alternative bill that grants cryptocurrencies a “special status.”
In a recent statement, Russia’s deputy prime minister Maxim Akimov defended the conservative regulatory approach. Commenting on the recent market slump that decreased the capitalization of most decentralized cryptocurrencies, he also said that authorities in Moscow do not plan to introduce any more significant amendments to the draft legal framework.
During the round table, the legal experts discussed a number of other related topics such as the need to regulate law enforcement in the crypto industry and provide protection for the rights of cryptocurrency holders. The new commission is expected to deal with these issues as well. The body will operate within the Moscow regional branch of the Russian Lawyers Association.
What do you think of the idea to create a legal commission to support the growing Russian crypto industry? Share your thoughts on the subject in the comments section below.

Binance Launches Mobile Market Tracker
Binance, the largest crypto exchange by daily trading volume, has launched a new market intelligence application. The beta version of Binance Info is now available for both Android and iOS devices, the company announced on Twitter. According to its page, Binance Info provides comprehensive project information and market data for more than 1,200 digital coins and tokens, including their issue price, ICO date and circulating supply. It supports both fiat and crypto pricing with multiple base currencies to choose from and offers users real-time charts and indicators.
The launch of the mobile market tracker is part of a series of new announcements by the Chinese-run trading platform in the past few weeks. News.Bitcoin.com reported last week that Binance is setting up a fiat-to-crypto exchange in Liechtenstein through a joint venture with LCX. Also announced was a new educational portal in beta – Binance Academy. The platform is an open access learning hub supported by the Binance team. The exchange is reportedly also exploring opportunities to invest in a ”decentralized” bank in Malta.
Exchange Ready in Just Two Weeks
An IT company, specialized in software development for the fintech sector, has recently launched a platform that allows clients to create their own cryptocurrency exchange, fast and easy, the Russian Bitcrypto News reports. Softfx, which provides services to forex and crypto brokers, dealers, banks and investment funds, claims that with its modular solution customers can have their trading platform up and running within two weeks after presenting their requirements.
The Exchange platform comes with useful functionalities like automated purchases and sales of digital assets, crypto-based CFD trading, integration with a number of payment systems including Webmoney, Skrill, Qiwi, and Yandex Money, as well as wallets supporting cryptocurrencies like bitcoin core (BTC), litecoin (LTC), ethereum (ETH), and ripple (XRP). Companies can also add their own coins issued through ICOs, including ERC20 tokens. The developers promise high level of security and encryption for users’ personal information, financial data and funds, as well as protection against hacking and DDoS attacks.
Shariah Crypto Platform Launches in UAE
Adab Solutions, a company based in the United Arab Emirates, has created a Shariah compliant cryptocurrency trading platform named First Islamic Crypto Exchange (FICE). Striving to adhere to “the high moral requirements set forth by the Shariah community,” the company has decided to create an in-house Shariah Advisory Board in order to “ensure that Islam is finally included in the global cryptocurrency market.”
The Board has been created as an independent body including internationally recognized Shariah experts, the Arabian Business Community reported. Their role will be to provide inputs on Shariah matters and help FICE comply with Shariah principles. Adab Solutions hopes to not only ensure high quality of exchange services but also support the inclusion of Muslim crypto enthusiasts and traders into the space.
Russian Region Issues Its Amurcoin
Amur Oblast, a region located in Russia’s Far East, has emitted 1 million of its own tokens called Amurcoins. The cryptos will be used by participants in the Eastern Economic Forum (EEF) scheduled to take place September 11 – 13, 2018 in Vladivostok. EEF has become a major platform for the presentation of new strategies to develop and promote political, economic and cultural links between the Russian Federation and countries from the Asia-Pacific region.
EEF guests will be rewarded with Amurcoins for every stride they make at the venue of the event, Bitnovosti reports. They can use the tokens to purchase and pay for a variety of goods and services, from souvenirs and ice cream, to renting a hotel room. The experiment, supported by local crypto enthusiasts and their friends from Moscow, is intended to help visitors better understand what blockchain is, how cryptocurrencies work, and also present Amur as an innovative, high-tech hub. The Oblast is home to the first Russian digital economy school and is currently building an international blockchain center.

Yes, You Can Buy Your World Cup Ticket with Bitcoin
Russian crypto-media have asked a meaningful question – why World Cup tickets can’t be bought with cryptocurrency. Credit card payments and bank transfers are currently accepted, but are they an option for every fan who wants to go to the stadium? And, is it really impossible to get a ticket with your bitcoin?
Also read: Russian Hotels to Surprise World Cup Fans with Bitcoin Payments
“Dear FIFA, Why?”
Despite the growing popularity of both cryptocurrencies and football, in Russia and around the world, it’s been said that it’s currently impossible to buy a ticket for the Mundial with bitcoin… or is it? Less than two months before the start of the 2018 FIFA World Cup, crypto/football fans want to know if spending digital coins is something they can do in the host country, the Russian Federation.
Almost 1.7 million tickets have been sold so far, the Organizing Committee announced a couple of weeks ago, after completing the second stage of the ticket sale. Tickets will be available again on April 18, when the last phase of the online sale is scheduled to start. From May 1, the remaining tickets will also be available at designated FIFA Venue Ticketing Centers.
Football fans from dozens of countries will visit Russia for the 21st FIFA World Cup which will take place from June 14 to July 15. They all need to buy a ticket if they want to enjoy the atmosphere on any of the 12 stadiums that will host the matches. Officially tickets can be purchased online with a Visa, the official partner of the World Cup, with other payment cards, and through a bank transfer.
Non-Russian residents can send international wires after they fill out a “ticket application form” that can be downloaded from FIFA.com. Spectators are also required to obtain a special Fan ID to get access to the stadiums. According to the organizers, the document guarantees “comfort and safety” at the football venues and “free public transport” in the Russian cities.
A growing number of people around the world now prefer using cryptocurrencies for payments and cross-border money transfers. In countries with high inflation rates or under international sanctions, using bitcoin or another digital currency has become business as usual. For other nations, dealing with strict government control over bank transactions, international transfers may not be an option at all.
Generally speaking, “why not pay with crypto?” is a good question for mostly practical reasons. That’s why the Russian outlet Bitcrypto News recently asked both the Organizing Committee and FIFA why cryptocurrencies are not among the available payment options for the World Cup tickets. Of course, they never got an answer from the organizers. There is an answer, though, and, here it is…
When There’s a Will, There’s a Way
Rest assured, football fans and bitcoin enthusiasts! Your coins will be accepted in the Russian Federation, one way or another. When there is a will, there is a way, as the saying goes! Tickets, accommodation, exchange – there are plenty of opportunities to spend your cryptos!
If you are looking for a place to stay, a hotel chain in Kaliningrad takes bitcoin. Malina Apartments in the western Russian exclave will be happy to accept your cryptos. Need some Russian cash? No problem – a crypto change is now open in Moscow. Its rates are not what you’d get online, but hey, it’s a crypto exchange in the heart of a capital city. You’ll find the bureau close to one of Moscow’s main railroad stations, “Kursky Vokzal”. Certainly, these are not merely exceptions.
Want to get a football game ticket with bitcoin? Well, there is a solution, although FIFA doesn’t know about it yet. At least two companies are now offering services through cards issued by the leading international payment providers. Both can be used in Russia and on FIFA’s website, actually pretty much anywhere else, too.
If you want to respect FIFA’s choice of sponsors, try Wirex. After a short veto, new Visa debit cards, with multiple currency accounts in GBP, EUR, USD, and of course BTC, are again available in Europe. Plastics have been issued already to customers in select countries, like the UK, as news.Bitcoin.com reported. Virtual cards are available in other markets, for example – Sweden.
“We are going to issue plastic cards in Europe in 4 weeks”, Wirex told one of the applicants a couple of days ago. Check availability on their website, but in any case you should be able to order and receive your prepaid Visa debit card in time for the Mundial.
And if you prefer the competition, check the Epayments website. They offer a Mastercard that you can fill up with your bitcoins. Bitcoin cash (BCH) is also accepted in their wallet, along with litecoin and ethereum. You can also load your card with fiat – dollars, euros, and even rubles are accepted through Yandex money and Qiwi accounts.
Epayments cards are also prepaid. By the way, the company does not hold custody of your cryptos, they are exchanged immediately. There is no service fee, if you spend 300 euros a month. For the World Cup trip, at least, that sounds like nothing. Check out the other fees before you order your card by signing up with your email. You can have it shipped for free. Delivery times for most countries are between 2 and 8 weeks, but there is also an express delivery option.
So, if you want to enjoy football and bitcoin at the same time, there you have it!
Do you think bitcoin needs permissions and approvals to be used as means of payment? Share your thoughts in the comments section below.
