Biting Down Prompt 1
Let’s start with the basics: who are you? Have you had previous roleplay experience? If so, tell us what experience you’ve had, like how many years you’ve roleplayed and what sort of genres you’ve tried. If not, what excites you the most about joining a roleplay?
you can find the long af answer to that here and you can find the rest of the questionnaire under the cut for Danny
What inspired your character? What inspired you to write them and what are you most excited about for your character?
Danny was created to fill a connection for another character on a different roleplay that didn’t last very long, but his character -- the California surfer dude frat bro -- stayed mostly the same. The inspirations for him are pretty simple: I’m from California, I live close enough to entire towns that capitalize on surfing, and I’ve been to college long enough to have seen someone down an entire bottle of Hennessy in under 30 minutes. The way Danny talks is basically how I talk if you ever met me in person (except I definitely sound more valley girl than he does).
So aside from personal experiences, there’s also Fantastic Beasts and Ilvermorny that really opened up a lot of opportunity for me to write about an American character, even if there’s not a lot written in canon about it. (Danny isn’t a fan of Ilvermorny, if only because it’s in the middle of bumfuck nowhere and he’s very much a social person... who’ll also brag about the west coast being the best coast.)
I’m really looking forward for Danny to make friends, even if he doesn’t really remember all of their names. What I enjoy about playing him is that he’s not really limited in who he can talk to; he just talks to everyone. He’s the kind of unclassy tourist to excuse a faux pas if only because he didn’t know he made it. I would put him to be somewhere between Michael Scott from The Office and Jean-Ralphio Saperstein from Parks and Recreation just because he has like... no self-awareness? At all?
Which relationships are you most excited to explore for your character? What character conflicts do you think will affect your character the most and why? If your character currently has no conflicts, what kind of plots would you like to see?
well Danny’s not really the relationships guy... but here’s a list of people he’s excited to hang out and/or hookup with as he tries to find a way to not be homeless in the UK
JT
Frigid Bitch
the Girl with the Tits
Quidditch bro
the Golden Snatch
Pumpkin Pasties
Pumpkin Pasties Part Two
I’m excited to have him be more involved with more people (honestly, who isn’t?) but he’s literally always wanting me to reply to all the opens for him. Maybe he’ll make some sort of crew as he sleeps his way through the magical community.
What do you hope to gain from Biting Down? Considering the first few events we’ve had so far, what would you like to see in the future?
If I’m talking about Danny specifically, I hope he gets involved with something darker than just goofing off. I think it’ll take a lot to shake him from his casual attitude and his lightheartedness but I wanna see how he deals with tragedy, or at least people dealing with tragedy. He hasn’t really encountered loss, and not that he’s really had a sheltered childhood, but most of his life really included him not really taking anything seriously. I want someone to slap him and tell him to get a grip -- especially as the entire magical community hunkers down with these attacks.

Biting Down Prompt 1
Let’s start with the basics: who are you? Have you had previous roleplay experience? If so, tell us what experience you’ve had, like how many years you’ve roleplayed and what sort of genres you’ve tried. If not, what excites you the most about joining a roleplay?
I’m Pat, I’m 23, I’m from California, I’m basic af, I’m working on my longest Snapchat streak at 211 days. East of Eden was my favorite assigned reading in high school. I’ve read the Odyssey twice. My favorite book to this day is Kira Kira by Cynthia Kadohata, but The Mango Bride by Marivi Solven is a close second.
To my friends outside of the internet, I’m ‘that girl who writes’ because that’s my one distinguishing quality aside from being really short (4′ 11″) and really loud.
Let’s be real, y’all aren’t gonna read an entire novel lol
My previous roleplay experience has been pretty limited, despite having actually started in 2011 -- although if you really wanna know how long I’ve been doing roleplay, I dabbled in forum RP in 2007 with a very limited understanding of what it actually was (and I literally just googled it right now so I guess the forum still exists). But it makes a really interesting fun fact, and it’s only made more interesting by the fact that I’m Facebook friends with one of my first roleplay partners ever from 2007. Except we don’t actually talk, so I don’t think we’re actually friends except in the way that Facebook makes us friends. But please stop trying to make 2007 happen, it’s never going to happen!
But my tumblr roleplay experience really started in 2011, when I joined tumblr for a year and realized that it’s a better interface for roleplaying than forums (or at least I thought so at the time). I joined two third gen roleplays to start, both of which fizzled out before creating my own and admining that from 2011-2014 until I started taking upper division courses at school and just running out of muse after two and a half years.
I’ve been retired from roleplay until mid-2016 since I decided to revisit Julian and wrote a few headcanons about him to fill the gap between 2014 and 2016 and how he could have probably developed over the two years I let him sit around. Since then I’ve really mostly done chat RP with the other two on the admin team and funnily enough I was the one who actually tried to get us all back in to a group roleplay on tumblr again in spring 2017, which wasn’t hard because it was an appless roleplay (which ended up being shut down).
Really though what the fuck did I miss between 2014 and 2016? Like, I know I lived under a rock considering that I’ve only joined like three roleplays in the span of like three years then decided that I can’t do that on top of four courses on structural analysis and working 20 hours a week. When did appless RPs become a thing? Why do people respond with gifs now? Back in my day in 2012 the world was supposed to end and there were titles on our paras and container themes weren’t a thing
Then Tonie wanted to start Biting Down and it didn’t take much convincing to get me to admin with her, and I’m mostly in charge of, like, excel sheets. All of my formal tumblr RP experience has been in Harry Potter third gen rps.
What inspired your character? What inspired you to write them and what are you most excited about for your character?
Julian’s been with me since late 2011. There were a few things that inspired his character at the time, starting with the fact that his name comes from a small town in California. I was in my senior year of high school and I wanted a character who was going through a similar experience. At the time of writing, Julian was on the top of the world as Head Boy and he quickly gets knocked off the pedestal after realizing that even though he was really good at his classes and had this top position at school, most of that shit doesn’t actually matter. He stayed at Hogwarts to teach but definitely started at the bottom of the totem pole and now he’s trying to work his way up though his Biting Down counterpart.
His character was originally inspired by Sebastian Smythe from Glee: he was the power hungry dickwad who everyone loved to hate since he was probably the douchiest Head Boy in like a century. He didn’t particularly care what people thought of him because it was his only way to cope with his life choices about not pursuing a Quidditch career, and the only person he really ended up being close to was Professor McGonagall. Side note, I don’t actually watch the Flash, I didn’t realize Grant Gustin was going to be on his own show when I picked his face in 2011.
Talking about his personality now, he’s definitely like Aaron Burr from Hamilton. Julian’s the guy to talk less and smile more; he keeps all of his plans close to his chest because he’s very much afraid to fail. This is very much due to the fact that he kind of threw away his shot to stay in athletics and if this job at Hogwarts doesn’t really work itself out he doesn’t really have a back up plan. I think that Julian is still parallel to what I’m doing now: I’m mostly doing research projects nowadays and Julian similarly publishes papers in Transfiguration Today and we’re literally freaking out about career choices.
Which relationships are you most excited to explore for your character? What character conflicts do you think will affect your character the most and why? If your character currently has no conflicts, what kind of plots would you like to see?
Roxanne Weasley - the former best friend. If Julian is Aaron Burr then Roxanne is Alexander Hamilton; she was his best friend if only because they were in the same place for two years, being stuck at Hogwarts... until Roxanne left because didn’t throw away her shot, unlike Julian who’s just gonna... wait for it. Julian hates Roxanne for leaving and basically doing better than he is now and he’s gonna be #salty about it tbh?
Lyla Scamander - the girlfriend. They’re very similar due to the fact that they’re both taking it slow, and I can’t wait to bring this simmer to a boil for the both of them -- especially since Julian’s beginning to see himself get settled into his career as a professor. Settling is a big word here.
Ethan Wood - the little brother. They didn’t used to get along and will probably deny that they ever did, but Julian’s trying to make amends since he does sort of feel bad for treating his brother like shit for a few years. Julian keeps track of the Magpies in the paper and I kinda wanna see them make up eventually.
Aidan Wood - the littlest brother. The sad thing is that Julian doesn’t see Aidan as much of a priority in terms of having to make up for something. Unlike with Ethan, Julian ignored Aidan rather than getting into fights with him. Because to Julian, the best means of conflict resolution is to not start a conflict at all. I hope Julian reaches out to him, but he doesn’t actually know how much he hurt his brother too.
Skylar Davies - the coffee confidante. They only see each other occasionally now, but they were friends in school because they both ran around the same nerd circles. I think Julian might confide more in the future as events pass and things get more stressful for him, even though he tries to keep it all in his head. Plus that euphoria stuff might be something he could use....
What do you hope to gain from Biting Down? Considering the first few events we’ve had so far, what would you like to see in the future?
I hope that our members suggest prompts and events, because I think a group needs to have its members not only participating in-character, but also being a part of the planning and the ideas and the community OOC. I really want to meet new people and find fun ways to beat the shit out of characters like how one of my character have already almost murdered someone else. Mainly I’d love to see a strong group of people sticking it out together and bonding over playing gods while throwing characters into catastrophe.
