Olabamiji Yemi Tubi says that evoking emotions is central to his creative process. His artwork is guided by a quote from Paul Cezanne, "A work of art which did not begin in emotion is not art,”

Tubi who is based in the United Kingdom was born in Yoruba land in the western part of Nigeria and he received his college education in the United States. His paintings frequently take a critical view of social, political and cultural issues from around the world. "Hunger in the Land of Plenty" addresses the internal and external exploitation of African nations. 

The Nigerian artist says, "The paradox of Africa is that it's a continent blessed with many natural resources but is still poor." One huge issue negatively impacting average Africans is that a large portion of the continent's natural resources and agricultural products are being exported abroad leaving them impoverished.

In "Hunger In the Land Of Plenty" a hungry African mother is attempting to breastfeed her baby because there is no food to feed the child; in front of them are two empty bowls. The mother and child are surrounded by farmland impacted by a drought. The dry land has resulted in dead vegetation and livestock.  In the middle of the painting is a woman bent over tilling the arid ground with her hoe, a crude farming tool for the 21st century. 

In the background Tubi depicts the fertile regions of Africa that produce enough food to feed all of the people on the continent. However the cargo ship in the upper left corner indicates the African products being shipped to other parts of the world at the expense of African people.
