jonatan leandoer96 - Sugar World (Review)

Nach jonatan leandoer96s letztem Album "Blodhundar & Lullabies" kommt er nun 2 Jahre später mit dem 8 Song großen Album "Sugar World" zurück. Es ist eine Collaboration mit dem dänischen Gitarrist und Singer, Songwriter Frederik Valentin.

Jonatan leandoer96, besser bekannt als Yung Lean, veröffentlicht unter dem Namen jonatan leandoer96 nun seit 2016. Als er eine extreme, drogenveranlasste Psychose erlitt, die aus dem sehr jungen Höhenflug von ihm als Yung Lean erfolgte, distanzierte er sich vorerst von Yung Lean und benutzte jonatan leandoer96 um sich weiterhin ausdrücken zu können. Als jonatan leandoer96 entfernte er sich von Trap Musik und versuchte sich in emotionalen Balladen und experimenteller Rock Musik.

Daran knüpft er auch mit "Sugar World" an. Auch dieses Album besteht wieder aus schönen Balladen (wie z.B. Open (Copenhagen Freestyle),Blue Light) und experimenteller Rock Musik (wie z.B. SugarWorld, Rivers of Another Town, July). Man kann sagen, dass sich jonatan leandoer96 nicht nur in seiner Stilrichtung, sondern auch im Gesang ziemlich treu bleibt. In "Sugar World" wird man, wie gewohnt, von seinem typischen, auf eine charmante Art und Weise, leicht schrägem Gesang und den abstrakt, metaphorischen Texten über Liebe, in eine Art Trance getragen und bevor man es überhaupt erahnen kann hat der Song schon sein abruptes Ende gefunden. 

Auch wenn es oftmals schwer fällt jonatan leandoer96 zu verstehen, zeichnet sich trotzdem das Thema des Albums ab. Es handelt von der Flucht in eine Idylle wie eine Utopie und davon das man trotz dessen seine traurigen Gefühle nicht los wird, wie er in dem Song "Rivers of Another Town" singt:"everywhere I go, these blue feelings follow".

Zwei Songs, die besonders interessante Elemente aufzeigen sind meines Erachtens "If I`m Born I Have To Live" und "July". "If I`m Born I Have To Live" ist einerseits interessant, da seine Stimme im Mix sehr weit hinten ist und außerdem aufgrund von dem traurigen Text in Kombination mit dem unbeschwert wirkenden Instrumental.

Der zweite für mich herausstechende Song ist "July" der, neben der sehr gut gewählten Single Auskopplung "Blue Light", mein Favorit ist. Im Gegensatz zu den restlichen Songs des Albums hat man hier das Gefühl, dass jonatan leandoer96 mal richtig etwas riskiert. Sein schräger, nahezu flüsternd, schreiender Gesang im Zusammenspiel mit einer weiblichen sehr klaren, geradlinigen Stimme, die in Teilen des Stückes seine Zeilen wiederholt, macht das Stück unglaublich einzigartig. Ich denke dass "July" ein toller Abschluss für dieses Album ist.

Abschließend kann man sagen, dass jonatan leandoer96 mit "Sugar World" sich weiterhin sehr treu bleibt, damit jedoch auch in großen Teilen des Albums zu wenig riskiert. Trotzdem ist es ein sehr gut produziertes Album, dass mich in Teilen mit auf eine interessante Reise genommen hat. Ich denke, dass es sich definitiv lohnt noch einmal zu diesem Album zurückzukehren, da bei Alben von Yung Lean/jonatan leandoer96 oftmals die Magie sich erst nach vielmaligem Hören entfaltet.
