Top Things To Do In Chiang Mai
Tumblr media
Just like most of the South East Asian Cities on the tourist route, Chiang Mai offers limitless Buddhist temples spread throughout the city. But what really stands out with this popular city north of Thailand is its rich history and colorful culture that still blend into the modern time.
Tumblr media
If you’re already tired with the hustle and bustle of Bangkok, Chiang Mai might be the place for you. It can still give you the hyper vibe Bangkok has but with a more laid-back feeling into it. It is still a province and far off from the capital, so expect to get a rustic, slow-paced, stress-free environment from time to time, which is actually a good thing!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I can actually compare it to Bali. You can party yet find relaxation at the same time. Though instead of beaches, you’ll be on the mountains here in Chiang Mai.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
How To Get To Chiang Mai?
Tumblr media
Your best bet in getting to Chiang Mai is flying in to Bangkok. Numerous international airports fly in to Thailand’s capital so that wouldn’t be a big issue.
Once you’ve stepped in to Bangkok, either you can stay for a few nights (recommended!) or go straight to your destination. Taking the night bus or train is the most famous option for budget travelers, yet flying in to Chiang Mai can also be cheap. Take note that the bus and train can take between 11 and 14 hours of travel. Make sure to check airlines like Thai AirAsia, Thai Lion Air, & Nok Air as well as they offer cheap flights domestically.
How To Get Out Of The Airport (Chiang Mai International Airport)?
I actually had done enough research on how to take the public transportation from the airport to the Old City, where most of the attractions and accommodations are. There is an option which looks like the most local one called Songthaew or a shared pick-up taxi (usually red in color) available once you exit the arrival hall. I’ve also bumped into an article online mentioning about airport shuttle vans with designated stops in the Old City. And of course, your “trustworthy” airport taxis ready for your service for a steeper price.
Tumblr media
Despite of these options I got, I hadn’t taken any of them since good thing, Grab is available in Chiang Mai. Grab has always been a reliable travel app here in South East Asia. It works like Uber that has reasonable pricing and you’ll most likely get a safe and comfortable ride.
Well to be honest, I was rooting for the Songthaew but I was unsure on how to take them. LOL! I was seeing a lot passing by but it looked like some were privately hired. It was not clear to me which one to take and what to do next once I’ve hoped in. I also didn’t see any airport shuttle vans or at least a counter or a queue for them. I was just grateful that Grab was available. :D
What To Do In Chiang Mai?
Tumblr media
Chiang Mai is known to be the most visited city in northern Thailand. Most activities in this part of the country can be seen here that’s why you’ll certainly never run out of things to do in Chiang Mai. My 3 days of stay in this beautiful city might be a quick one yet I can say that I had witness most of its beauty. Listed below are the top things I didn’t miss out on this amazing place.
1. Do Temple-Hopping
Tumblr media
You might already be templed-out if you have been traveling to Indochina for quite some time now. I’m pretty sure that you have seen countless similar looking temples throughout your trip and the last thing you want to see is another temple.
Tumblr media
Chiang Mai might be an exception. I have checked out some of their famous temples and I can say that they differ from one another. Unlike the temples in Siem Reap, Cambodia (which are great by the way), temples here in Chiang Mai feels homely and simpler in structure. They are way less intimidating despite of the golden Buddhas and other statues all around.
Below are some of the cool temples I was able to visit:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Wat Chiang Man
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Wat Chedi Luang
This temple is my favorite in Chiang Mai as it has an impressive ruin chedi (pagoda) at the center of the temple ground.
Tumblr media
Wat Phan Tao
This temple was not listed on my itinerary but I was able to visit this on my way to Wat Chedi Luang.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Wat Lok Molee
Tumblr media
Wat Phra Singh
Tumblr media
Wat Sri Suphan (Silver Temple)
Make sure to visit this temple at night to witness its illuminating beauty.
Situated up in the mountain with an astonishing view of the province, Wat Phra That Doi Suthep is considered to be the most popular for tourists. Unfortunately, I was unable to visit this temple as it is quite far off from the Old City.
2. Experience The Night Market
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
There are a few amazing night markets to choose from when you’re here in Chiang Mai but the most popular would be the Sunday Night Market or also known as the Walking Street along Ratchadamnoen Rd. It’s a kilometer stretch of delectable cuisine, artsy souvenirs, and cool local events.
Tumblr media
Evidently, this only takes place every Sunday from 4PM until around midnight.
  3. Learn How To Cook Thai Cuisine
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I’ve always been eager to try a cooking class ever since I started traveling. Food has always been a big part of all my travels and what better way to know more of the local cuisine than trying to make them by yourself!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I almost had the chance when I was in Penang, Malaysia but was out of time. I found the cooking courses in Luang Prabang, Laos quite expensive on the other hand. The perfect moment came when I visited Chiang Mai!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Thailand definitely is the best place to savor on a gastronomical experience. I was able to enroll for a 3 Dishes - Half Day Course for a reasonable price (the cheapest I saw online) under Mama Noi Thai Cookery School. This activity is available online via Klook and Kkday. If you’re new to Klook, make sure to sign up HERE to get a Php150 reward!
  4. Eat A Lot!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Thai cuisine has always been one of my favorites ever since. No trip to Thailand is complete without trying their authentic food choices.
If Pad Thai is screaming in and out of Bangkok, you might need to ditch that delectable plate for now and focus more on another local noodle dish made popular up here in the north.
Tumblr media
Unlike Pad Thai that is dry, Khao Soi is another noodle dish served with a creamy spicy curry-like coconut broth.
Khao Soi Khun Yai is one of the popular stalls in the area that sells Khao Soi. I actually had my lunch here before I went to Wat Lok Molee which is just across the road.
Tumblr media
I had this sweet Longan Juice to pair with my spicy Khao Soi.
Tumblr media
Tip: Make sure to go here early as they only run from 11:00AM to 2:00PM and usually sell out quickly.
Tumblr media
Some travelers even continue their journey way up further to places like Pai, Chiang Rai, and even Luang Prabang in Laos. But Chiang Mai indeed has these countless attractions your eyes can enjoy. I could also say that this is a great place to retire. No doubt a lot of digital nomads has found a home in this charming ancient city with a modern twist. I can describe Chiang Mai as a city away from the hustle. Despite of the city thriving its way, Chiang Mai still manages to hold its tradition making it an authentic city that catches every traveler’s heart.

Taiwan Trip 2018
I’ve always been curious about what the heart of Asia can offer and by taking advantage of its government’s initiative for Free Visa to attract more tourists, it’s time to get to know this neighboring country.
I turned to AirAsia for cheap flights and got a good deal for Taiwan from Dec. 17-21. The dates are the best as they’re literally 1 week before the holiday break kicks off so I don’t need to worry about the “back to reality” dillemma that we get right after spending a holiday away from home then going back straight to work.
I did a lot of research by reading blogs and watching vlogs on Youtube. The information I got from the two mediums really helped me out in planning my 4 days trip. AirAsia flights to Taiwan from Clark are always at night so I only have 4 days instead of 5.
The next thing I did after securing my flight tickets, I looked for discounted hotels/hostels. I always turn to Agoda because they have the cheapest accommodation deals. Been booking hotels with them since 2016. I never had an issue and their customer service, although the queue is too long, you’ll spend a tantamount of time waiting on the line for a rep to attend to your concerns, is superb. Agoda also have the options for “pay nothing until” or “pay at the property”. I also considered looking through Airbnb but in the end, I found myself booking two accommodations via Agoda. Mind you, always read the reviews of people for that hotel you want to book. It will definitely help you decide if it’s the right one for you.
I also thought of booking activities, buy tickets and rentals online (aside from flight tickets) when planning my trip. I turned to two travel applications: Klook and KKday.
Klook:
-Rental of 4G Wifi Mobile Broadband I got on Sale. My usage is 5 days. The pickup location is right at the Arrival Area of Taoyuan Airport T1. It was an easy transaction, instructions on the Klook voucher is accurate. I presented the QR code on the voucher on my phone, my passport and Debit card (credit card can be used too). The card is required so when you loose or damage the device, they’ll charge you. Signed the receipt and that’s it! The device was low on power charge though, so I got to use it the next day but boy, it’s so fast! No lagging anywhere I go in Taiwan. The price shown below is for 1 day use only. So the price will multiply depending on how many days you’re going to use it.
Tumblr media
-Taichung World Flora Expo Ticket. This ticket is for the entrance fee of the three world flora expo sites. I’ll go into detail of the itinerary later on.
Tumblr media
KKDAY:
-booked a Day Tour Package for three tourist spots: Yehliu Geopark, Shifen and Jiufen.
Tumblr media
What you need to know for first time travelers in Taiwan like me:
1. If your arrival time and immigration process allows it, catch the airport MRT going to Taipei or any other places in Taiwan. Otherwise, take a bus or Uber or Taxi. I was lucky to catch the MRT. MRT Airport Operating hours: 6am - 12am only.
2. Purchase the Easycard. It’s going to be your bestfriend in going around the city and neighboring states/provinces. It costs NTD$500 - there is a NTD$100 fee so your balance on the card will be NTD$400. The Easycard can be used both in MRT and Bus. This is available to purchase at any Information booth in MRT stations. Taiwan has a very systematic and easy to understand transportation system so I’m really happy about it. It’s so easy going up and down stations to your destinations.
Tumblr media
3. It’s December, it’s Winter. Do you need to wear a jacket? I would suggest to search for the weather forecast from the duration of your stay. In my case, it never rained. It was sunny. The lowest temperature I experienced was just 17degrees Celcius -at night. Temperatures tend to get low at sun down. During the day, while wearing a fleece jacket, puffer jacket and a sweater, met with humidity and highest temp of 28degress Celcius, I got too sweaty!! So on my last day in Taiwan, I was wearing a sando and shorts. No sweat, no cold feeling though I attracted attention for wearing differently. I can’t help it, I’m a tropical island girl so 17, 20, or 28 degress are not cold enough for me except when I’m about to have my period, my body temps get low, I’m shivering at 20 degress at the office aircon. Lol. But you will notice the Taiwanese people are still wearing layered jackets I think it’s because they just got used to wearing those clothing during Winter months. And anyway, most of the year, it’s raining in Taiwan and the rain adds to the cold temperature so yeah, maybe that’s the reason. I was just lucky I guess that the duration of my visit was sunny, no rains at all.
4. Taiwanese are very friendly, accommodating and helpful that in spite of language barrier, they will proactively help you out when they see you confused or trying to figure out which way to go. That alone made my journey very easy and I really felt safe there.
5. Speaking of language barrier, taxi drivers speak little to no English and they’re having a hard time understanding what you’re trying to say. So I suggest that you prepare an address of your destination that’s written in Chinese. When I was going to the hostel from Taipei Main Station, the taxi driver was clever enough to call the hostel to get the address in Mandarin.
6. There’s plenty of climbing and walking from stations to stations and hiking trails. So you must wear comfortable shoes, and you should be an active person to prevent yourself from suffering painful legs and knees.
7. Get a copy of the Taipei Metro Guide pamphlet. It will help you navigate which train line to take to get to your destinations. You can get it from the Information booth or train officers around the stations. You can also get a soft copy online at english.metro.taipei -just type it as it is on your web browser.
Here’s my detailed itinerary..
Day 1. A DIY trip I planned:
Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial
Elephant Mountain
Mala YuanYang Hotpot
Chun Shui Tang Milk Tea
Maokong Gondola
Longshan Temple
Taipei 101
Ximending
Shilin Night Market
What I actually able to fulfill: all of the above except the ones written on RED. Yes. I ran out of time, I wasn’t able to squeeze them to the schedule.
Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial - this is just a walking distance from the hostel I stayed in. No entrance fee as it is a public place. I was in awe at how huge those traditional structures are and how spacious the whole park is. It’s magnificent! Also, the Exit 5 of the Chiang Kai-Shek MRT station is right in the compound.
Tumblr media
Elephant Mountain - it’s a hiking trail where you can get a great view of Taipei 101 and the city from afar. It is a popular destination for both locals and tourists alike. This is where my knees got in real trouble, I could use a wheelchair! The steps are too steep going up, I was not able to finish the trail and get to the boulders because my legs, specially my knees were giving up. This is the price to pay for not being an active person. Though, there is a spot, a balcony where you can already take a photo and see the city from there without going up to the boulders. That’s where I stopped and got the below 2nd photo.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
How to get here: from any MRT station in my case, Chiang Kai-Shek Exit 4 station, take the RED line to Xiangshan station and go to Exit 2. From Exit 2, go straight to the park then turn left at the end of the park, go straight then turn right. Continue walking straight until you see the sign on the above photo on the left side of the street. When in doubt, just Google then look for the result from “Guide to Taipei”. Tried pasting the link here but this silly tumblr can’t save it, the app crashes.
Mala YuanYang Hotpot at Ximending - took a lunch at this unlimited hotpot that is popular to tourists. This place gets really crowded mostly by Korean tourists. The lunch costs NTD$545 and dinner is NTD$635. You can have unlimited premium meats, seafood and other hotpot essentials, unlimited drinks with plenty of varieties and this is the most exciting part: unlimited Häagen-Dazs and Movenpick ice cream!!! Aside from other desserts like fruits, puddings and egg tart. The only limited though, is time. Your lunch and dinner is limited to only 2 hours. It is located in Ximending which is also happens to be Taipei’s shopping district. So in this stop, I was able to hit two places in one go. And I think Ximending is livelier at night. So if you want to get dinner instead of lunch at Mala Hotpot, then I think that’s a better idea.
Tumblr media
How to get here: Ximen station is your drop point station. It is in the Blue and Green lines as it also serves as the transfer station for Green line. Blue line has transfer stations from Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center station and Zhongxiao Fuxing station from the Brown line, Taipei Main Station from the Red line, Zhongxiao Xinsheng from the Orange line, and Ximen station from the Green line. From where I was at Xiongshan station of the Red line, I dropped off the Chiang Kai-Shek station then transferred to the Green line and stopped at Ximen station.
Taipie 101 - the most famous landmark of Taiwan. It’s astonishing! Since it’s sunny on the day I went up the Taipei 101 Observatory, I was able to see the whole city, crystal clear! What I forgot to do though is to get to the 91st floor observatory. The main observatory is at the 89th floor and it took us 37seconds to get there from the 5th floor where the ticket for the observatory is being sold at NTD$600 per person. It is indeed the fastest lift!
Tumblr media
How to get here: Take the RED line going to Taipei 101/World Trade Center station.
Maokong Gondola - it’s a gondola ride with three mountain stops. The last stop is the Maokong village where there are a bunch of tea shops. It is better to get there before sunset to see the city sunset while enjoying a tea. Unfortunately in my case, I got to ride the gondola past 5pm. Night time comes early at 5pm. But I get to see the city at night while riding the gondola and enjoying the cold breeze.
How to get here: from Taipei 101 station which is in the RED line, take the same line to Daan Park station which is the transfer station for the Brown line. Take the Brown line going to Taipei Zoo station. From Taipei Zoo staition, just follow the signs that leads to the Maokong Gondola. It will cost you a total of NTD$200 for a round trip from the gondola.
Chun Sui Tang Cultural Tea House - based on Google search, it is the one that started the Milk Tea craze! They also have the Taiwanese Beef Noodle soup which is also a famous Taiwanese dish. Hitting two birds with one stone. This is where I had my dinner. The milk tea tastes bittersweet which I really like. The beef noodle soup tastes good too! The servings are huge!
Tumblr media
How to get here: Take the Red line going to Chiang Kai-shek station. Go to Exit 5. The restaurant is located just under the stairs of the Chaing Kai-Shek Concert Hall.
And that’s a wrap for my first day in Taiwan. My next posts will detail my journey for the rest of my 4 days in the country.

Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media

Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tumblr media

Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Tumblr media

youtube

這趟沙美島二日遊,除了交通船票等等全部包含其中辦到好,費用中又含一晚沙美島住宿,以及會說中文的人員全程陪同,完全替我們的旅行省了不少時間與精力,路途中導遊還會分享一些泰國當地人的生活習慣到飲食等等,非常豐富有趣。詳細可以參考以下網址;
Tumblr media Tumblr media

「沙美島」圖文,更多請看我之前介紹的這一篇;

Summer Day Resort
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
此外,也列出海鮮售價給大家參考;

Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media

Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media

Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tumblr media Tumblr media

Taiwan Over the Weekend: My 2-Day Itinerary
Tumblr media
Since November 2017, Filipino tourists have been experiencing the privilege of being visa-free to Taiwan. We can surely maximize the given 14 days of stay as Taiwan is just a small country. But with the policy nearing to its end (as it’s only for a 1-year trial) and the responsibilities we have at home (work and expenses, you know), having this desired holiday seems quite unattainable. But fret no more as news of extension has been confirmed. You don’t need to be out for a long time as well since (almost) every famous sights you need to see are within reach and can be done for just a couple of days!
Read more about the visa-free extension for Filipinos here: http://news.abs-cbn.com/news/06/28/18/taiwan-extends-visa-free-entry-for-philippines-thailand-brunei
Yes, you read it right. A quick Taiwan getaway is achievable. I actually have done it and ‘twas just over the weekend. There’s no need to apply for leaves and budget wouldn’t be a big issue. Below are some helpful information about the trip and listed as well is my itinerary with estimated expenses.
Tumblr media
 How to Get To Taiwan?
Taiwan is just very close, located north of the Philippines. A 2-hour plane ride will take you to its capital through our local carriers like Cebu Pacific, Air Asia Phil, and Philippine Airlines. Just visit their sites to check the schedule that suits you.
How to Get to the City Center (Taipei) from Taoyuan International Airport?
For convenience, taxis and Grab are available but with a steep price since the city center is located more than 30KM away from the airport. Cheaper options would be the Airport MRT and Bus 1819. Please take note though that the Airport MRT only runs before midnight. The Bus 1819 runs 24 hours so you’ll never have a problem if you arrive later than that. Fare is NTD125 (PHP220 / USD4) one way.
Visit this link for more information: http://www.taoyuan-airport.com/english/buses

 Taipei Main Station
Transportation in Taipei
Commuting around the capital is very easy and efficient. Their transit system can easily get you from one place to another. Just download a map online or get one from the airport or any of the MRT stations and you’re good to go. We actually use their MRT all throughout our city tour and it was such a convenience for us especially that we are limited in time.
Tumblr media
We availed a Taipei Metro 1-day pass for only NTD150 (PHP260 / USD5) to use on our DIY city tour. You can get one at the Information Counter of any MRT Station.
Tumblr media
Day 1: Arrival + Northern Taiwan Day Tour
2:05AM – Arrival (Bus fare to Taipei Main Station – NTD125 (PHP220 / USD4))
4:00AM – Late check-in (New May Flower Hotel – walkable from Taipei Main Station, the last stop for Bus 1819)
8:00AM – Breakfast at McDonald’s – NTD150 (PHP265 / USD5)
9:00AM-6:00PM – Jiufen, Yehliu and Shifen Day Tour via Kkday – NTD800 (PHP1,420 / USD26)
Tumblr media
You can definitely do this on DIY but we opted with a tour arranged by Kkday for convenience.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yehliu Geopark is one of the most iconic destinations in Northern Taiwan due to its unique geological formations. The most famous formation here is the “Queen’s Head” that we were not able to take a snapshot with due to the long queue.
Tumblr media
We just settled with the replica. LOL!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Shifen is another touristy destination famous for its sky lanterns. They say that the wish you write on these lanterns as you set them to the sky will come true.
Tumblr media
Shifen is also known for its street food and other local delicacies.
Tumblr media
I’m lovin’ this Peanut Ice Cream Roll!
Tumblr media
The railway station is worthy of shot with its dramatic and rustic look. The nearby marketplace on the other hand serves as a pit stop for those who are hungry and looking for souvenir items.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Jiufen might be the most famous destination among the three and probably the site people are looking forward to the most. With the location said to be the inspiration of Hayao Miyazaki’s Academy award-winning animated film “Spirited Away”, this old mining town in the Northeast Mountains of New Taipei City is now an art and culinary haven.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
A long up and down alleyway that leads to different lefts and rights full of authentic tea houses, local restaurants, and souvenir stalls will definitely make your eyes and tummy full with delight.

  Day 2: DIY-Taipei City Tour
We checked out early since we’re going to be out the whole day and just left our luggage on the reception area.
8:00AM – Breakfast @ Mos Burger in Taipei Main Station – NTD200 (PHP350 / USD7)
9:00AM – Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Opening hours: 9:00AM-6:00PM daily except for Chinese New Year Eve and Chinese New Year
Tumblr media
No entrance fee
Tumblr media
Changing of the Guards happens every hour until 5:00PM
Tumblr media
How To Get Here: Take the MRT Red Line from Taipei Main Station to Chiang Kai Shek Memorial Hall Station.
 11:00AM – Ximending Shopping District
Tumblr media
Ximending Shopping District is a famous shopping place here in Taipei. Countless cosmetic stores, boutiques, souvenir shops, restaurants, and street food stalls are scattered around this area.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
How to Get Here: Take the MRT Green Line from Chiang Kai Shek Memorial Hall Station to Ximen Station. Ximen Station is also connected through the Blue line. Just check the map and take the line that is closer to you.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
You haven’t been to Taiwan if you didn’t eat at the Modern Toilet Restaurant. This weirdly-themed restaurant that mimics a restroom is a famous eat-out place known for its Instagram-worthy interiors and dishes. The food was not that remarkable for me but the experience definitely paid off. Due to the hype, it’s expected that the price would not come affordable. I was able to spend roughly around NTD400 (PHP700 / USD13) for my meal.
Tumblr media
How to Get Here: They have a branch somewhere in Ximending District. Download offline Google Maps beforehand for convenience.
Tumblr media
Tianhou Temple – This temple is right in the core of Ximending Shopping District.
Tumblr media
How to Get Here: From Ximen Station, just walk straight along Chengdu Road.
2:00PM – Longshan Temple – This is one of the most famous temples here in Taipei that is being flocked by tourists every day.
Tumblr media
No entrance fee but donations are highly encouraged
Tumblr media
Opening Hours: 6AM-10PM
Tumblr media
How to Get Here: Ride the MRT Blue Line to Longshan Temple Station. Take Exit 1 where you can find Longshan Temple north of the station plaza.
4:00PM – Elephant Mountain – I would advise you to get here on the late afternoon so you can see the view while the sun is up until sunset and night time. The hike normally takes about 20-30 minutes.
Tumblr media
No need to pay anything to enter or climb the mountain.
Tumblr media
How to Get Here: Take the MRT Blue Line from Longshan Temple Station to Taipei Main Station then switch to MRT Red Line. Drop off at Xiangshan Station and take Exit 2. It would take you around 10 minutes of walk from the station to the base of the trek.
7:00PM – Taipei 101 – This skyscraper that used to be the world’s tallest building, is a financial center with observatory decks on the 89th and 91st floors and a massive shopping mall on its bottom floors. We didn’t get to the observatory deck anymore since we’re on a budget. The view of the Taipei skyline from the Elephant Mountain was enough for us already.
Tumblr media
How to Get Here: It’s just one station away from MRT Red Line Xiangshan Station. Alight at MRT Red Line Taipei 101/World Trade Center Station. If you’re coming from Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall or MRT Blue Line Taipei City Hall Station, Taipei 101 is walkable from there.
Tumblr media
The Starbucks here in Taipei 101 is a must visit as it is considered as the highest branch of theirs. Located on the 35th floor of this skyscraper, this coffee shop doesn’t just offer your usual favorite Starbucks drink and pastries but an astounding view as well. Take in mind though that you need a reservation before coming here. A minimum spend requirement and a time limit are also being implemented here. Wearing slippers and shorts are also not allowed.
8:00PM – Shilin Night Market – From countless street food stalls, restaurants, boutiques, souvenir stores, and specialty shops, this vast night market has been making names to be the largest and most famous night market in Taipei. It’s so big that we don’t know where to go when we got there.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
How to Get Here: Ride the MRT Red Line and alight at Jiantan Station (not to be confused with Xilin Station – It would be quite a long walk from there).
10:00PM – Raohe Night Market – As if Shilin Night Market was still not enough for us, we just couldn’t skip Raohe Night Market as this long stretch of street food and souvenir items is a must visit.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
How to Get Here: Take the MRT Green Line then drop off at Songshan Station. It’ll be a short walk from there to Raohe Night Market.
Tumblr media
You’re hitting two birds in one stone by getting here in Raohe Night Market as you will able to visit a famous temple as well, the Ciyou temple.
Below are some of the destinations that you can still include on the city tour. Unfortunately, we were not able to visit them despite of being part of the plan. It was continuously raining when we were there making it difficult for us to roam around.
Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall
Opening hours: 9:00AM-6:00PM daily except for Chinese New Year Eve and Chinese New Year
Changing of the Guards is around 5:00PM
How To Get Here: Ride the MRT Blue Line and get off at S.Y.S. Memorial Hall Station. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall is walkable from Taipei 101.
Dalongdong Bao’an Temple
Opening Hours: 6:30AM-10:30PM
No entrance fee but donations are highly encouraged
Nearest MRT Station: MRT Red Line Yuanshan Station
Ningxia Night Market
Opening Hours: 5:00PM-1:00AM
How to Get Here: Drop off at MRT Green Line Zhongshan Station then walk from there
Tumblr media
As stressful as it looks, this itinerary actually worked for us. I would want to stay longer but saving my leave credits was more of a priority that time. This very quick weekend getaway turned out well anyway and we surely maximized our stay. My pocket money of NTD2,800 (PHP5,000 / USD93) was enough for me. I actually had NTD100 left. Since the visa-free policy has been extended, I am now much willing to apply for a leave to fully experience this beautiful island nation.
