Whumptober 3
Short one. Decided to do something very vague and not literal to the prompt.
Prompt: Solitary Confinement
Randomly Selected Whumpee: Lloyd
Selection method: Google number generator.
TW: kidnapping mention (It's Lloyd.)
--
Lloyd paced.
He hated this part. The lonely part. The part he had to do alone. When his friends couldn't hold him up. He was the only Green Ninja. That meant he was the only one that could take out the big evils. He was the only one that got kidnapped for his powers. He was the only one that had to hide and stay out of certain fights.
He was the only one that had to be alone.
His family tried not to do it to him. Tried their best not to exclude him if the fate of the world wasn't at risk. Fought hard to stay by his side for as much of the battle as they could. Did everything they could to keep him from getting kidnapped.
Destiny had a different design.
So Lloyd paced and waited for the solitary part to end. When he could be a part of a group again. When he wasn't the One and Only Green Ninja who shouldered the burden of destiny alone. When he went back to being Lloyd Garmadon with friends so close he called them family.
Perhaps it would be more correct to say The Green Ninja paced and Lloyd just waited.
--
I love the concept of Lloyd's destiny being a burden. I rotate it in my mind constantly. :)

(For @blursed-ninjago-ideas [mod Kat @ninja-go-to-therapy ] and the miraculous crossover/AU)
Lloyd falls to the ground. What- oh no.
Was that travelers tea?!
No! No, he can’t be in another realm! He- no!
Panic starts to set over him. How is he going to get home? He doesn’t have time for this, he was going to go meet Misako at his dad’s grave, he can’t be in another realm!
He sucks in a deep breath. Okay, this- this is fine. Completely and totally fine. He just needs to figure out how to get back home. Working with his team, he’s built a rocket ship while trapped in space! He can do this!
… except he doesn’t have his team, and he’s completely lost.
No! He can’t lose hope. He’ll figure something out.
Lloyd gets to his feet. This is far from the craziest thing that’s happened to him. He’ll find a way through it.
He wraps his father’s robes tighter around himself, doing his best to fight back the fear.
Taking a deep breath, he looks around. A black and almost purplish butterfly flutters up to him, and a small smile crosses his face.
The butterfly lands on his shoulder, and suddenly, there’s a form of darkness enveloping him.
“Golden Master, I am Hawkmoth. You have always had what matters most to you taken away. Now, it is time for you to take from others!”
Lloyd shakes his head, trying to dispel the voice. “Wha- no! I don’t want- I don’t want to hurt anyone!”
“Who said anything about hurting anyone? I just want to help you make things right. With this power, you can protect the people that you care about. You will never lose anyone again! Now rise, Golden Master, and make things right!”
Lloyd feels himself slip, and the last thing he hears is his own voice saying, “Yes, Hawkmoth.”
And then everything goes dark.
(I didn’t know how else to share this [asks are too short] so, I just made a post and tagged it, hope that’s okay)

I am screeching!
SOMEONE LIKED MY STUPID LITTLE SNIPPET THAT MUCH!?!?
Also, oof, the typos. Was that one a drunk prompt time? I don't remember.
I wished I had been in a better place to participate in the whole show anniversary gift exchange, but as you guys know, I am facing various obstacles this month. (Speaking of which, sorry about the lack of update for today's Whumptober, I passed out. I might get it done by morning, maybe not.)

Decided to redraw my favorite part from this snippet from the Prompt Event held by Mod Ivy over on @blursed-ninjago-ideas
I'm still in love with this snippet btw I'm over the moon one of my favorite writers wrote something for an au I made, even if it was a request by a friend (I have told literally 4 people, and three were asleep except for one)

Whumptober 4
This one did give me a little trouble to get the idea rolling, but once I got it, it was easy enough.
Prompt: "You in there?"
Randomly Selected Whumpee: Jay
Selection method: Google number generator
TW: nothing serious.
--
“You in there?”
Jay wanted so desperately to answer the call. He wanted to scream.
“YES! I’m in here! I need help! Cole please come save me!”
But a hooked hand pressed to a pair of orange lips stopped his tongue. If Jay made a peep; if Cole came in the room, Nadakhan would hurt him. Jay couldn’t risk it. Cole didn’t remember fighting Nadakhan so he wasn’t wise to the Djinn’s tricks. It would be a simple matter of holding Jay hostage and Cole wouldn’t know better than to try to use a wish to save him.
Jay wanted to scream and cry as Nadakhan smugly smiled and mouthed the words “good boy”.
“Jay, I’m getting worried ok? If you’re mad at me, just tell me. Then you can go back to giving me the silent treatment. I just need to know that you’re alright.” Cole begged through the door.
Jay panicked as he saw the doorknob turn. He leaped across the room to hold the door closed.
“Jay! Come on, man!” Cole whined “Just tell me that you’re ok!”
Jay bit his lower lip and glared at Nadakhan. He tried to speak with his face alone.
“He won’t leave unless I say something!”
Nadakhan seemed amused for a moment, before flicking his wrist dismissively.
Jay’s shoulders dropped in relief.
“I’m fine, Cole.” he said “Just working through some stuff and need to be alone right now.”
It occurred to Jay that this was the only chance he would get to call for help. It would have to be something Nadakhan wouldn’t understand was a cry for help, but Cole would understand.
Or maybe something Cole wouldn’t?
“If Nya needs me, tell her I’ll be at the lighthouse.”
Nya and Nya alone would know exactly what that meant.
“Wait! You’re leaving!?” Cole asked, pushing harder on the door.
“Just working through some stuff. Don’t worry about it.” Jay said, grunting as he struggled to keep Cole out.
“Are you sure we can’t help?” Cole asked.
“Nope. Positive. Has to be me. Alone.” Jay said.
It wasn’t a complete lie. Nadakhan was very specifically out to get him alone. Jay had to deal with him alone or he would start targeting the others through association.
Cole stopped pushing.
“We’re talking about this later.” he said.
Jay swallowed a mouthful of spit.
“Promise. I’ll tell you guys everything when I get back.” he said confidently
“If I get back” he thought nervously.
As if he could read the thought, Nadakhan looked thoroughly amused.
“Alright. Come say goodbye though.” Cole said sternly.
Nadakhan looked ready to accept Cole’s involvement and reveal himself. Jay barely beat him to the punch.
“When I finish packing.” he blurted out.
“Fine.” Cole said.
His heavy footsteps stomped away; anger born of worry. He knew Jay wasn’t ok, but accepted that he wasn’t getting to help.
“That looked difficult.” Nadakhan snickered.
“Whatever. I kept him out of it. A deal’s a deal, right?”
“My revenge will be limited to you and those that stand in my way. He is still safe.”
--
BTW, I have not proof read any of these. <3

Whumptober 6
So I have to explain the context for this one a little bit. I guess call it SOG Red Shogun AU.
Kai uses his old Slither Pit connections to go deep undercover in the SOG. The team quickly loses contact with him.
Prompt: Recording
Randomly Selected Whumpee: Kai
Selection method: Rolled dice
TW: Alcohol abuse, various injuries, and a lot of vague but uncomfy implications.
--
“Everyone to the bridge. You’ll want to see this.” Pixal said.
Jay and Nya shared a worried glance before they set their tools down. Zane and Pixal were waiting for them when they arrived.
Pixal was staring at the screen with a strong frown and Zane was pacing back and forth. A bad sign if Zane was doing something so out of character.
“How are the computer repairs coming?” Jay asked nervously.
Cole came in behind him holding Baby Wu’s hand. It was still weird that the baby they had been taking care of was their sensei.
“The repairs are going well. Our situation is not.” Pixal said, not taking her eyes off the screen. “The virus downloaded several files onto our computer.”
Nya sighed in frustration.
“How long will it take to remove the malware?” she asked.
“You misunderstand.” Pixal said, finally turning to face the others. “These are normal video files.”
Pixal received three confused looks before Zane stopped pacing long enough to speak.
“The good news is that we have contact from Kai.” Zane said.
Nobody liked how that was phrased.
“There’s bad news, isn’t there?” Jay asked, barely keeping his voice level.
Zane nodded. He gestured to the screen as he pressed play on the first video.
There was a wave of relief to see Kai alive, but it was chased with concern at his appearance.
His eyes were unfocused and his skin was covered in bruises and soiled bandages. He was trying to wrap his knuckles, something he had done a millions times before, but he was having trouble with it this time. His hands were shaking too much and his movements seemed too sloppy.
“How’s it going, Red?” the voice behind the camera asked.
Kai barely responded. His entire focus was on wrapping his hands.
“Let me help you with that.” a female voice.
The owner slid into frame to sit next to Kai and help him wrap his hands. Her cherry red Mohawk blocked most of Kai’s face, but what could be seen wasn’t reacting. He seemed to barely know she was even there.
“He’s pretty out of it.” laughed the camera man.
The Redhead laughed as she finished wrapping Kai’s hands.
“I think we poured like two bottles of vodka down his throat.” she said “Top it off with the concussion and he probably can’t remember his own name!”
The camera shook as the camera man laughed again.
Nya felt Jay reach over and squeeze her hand.
“What is this?” she asked.
Zane just shook his head.
“Are you filming?” the redhead on screen asked.
“Boss wanted to make a presentation for his friends.” The camera man explained “Said to get some glamour shots of our little ‘new addition’.”
“This is just a part of his cover, right? I mean, he threw the wire out to make them think he was quitting being a ninja. This is just….” Jay trailed off.
“I do not believe Kai is faking this.” Pixal said, clenching her fist.
Jay wanted to argue, but Nya squeaked next to him.
The camera focused on Kai’s face again and it was undeniable. Kai wasn't sober at all. He looked like he had been dragged through the cursed realm and back with the dried blood caking on his face.
“Let’s get you in the ring, Red.” the cameraman said, reaching a hand forward to help Kai stand.
Kai mindlessly took the hand and nearly fell back over the moment he stood.
That was the end of the first video.
They all stood in silence for a moment before Pixal spoke.
“There is more.”
No one answered her.
She reached forward to play the second video, but Nya shot forward and stopped her. Pixal didn’t argue. She just took a step back.
“I believe Kai’s cover was blown.” Zane said, having calmed down.
--
That just felt like the place to end it.
Kai threw the wire out to maintain his cover and that left him alone. He was fine with the enemies, it was the "old friends" he wasn't prepared for. Old habits are easy to pick back up, especially when you're surrounded by bad influences. Kai ended up blowing his cover without knowing it, but by then the SOG were having too much fun playing with him. (I will stop rambling about this au now.)

Whumptober 5
Well the direction seemed obvious when I rolled Zane.
Prompt: "It's broken."
Randomly Selected Whumpee: Zane
Selection method: Rolled dice.
--
Well Zane felt useless.
The building collapsed over their heads on a mission and now he was alone. He had no idea where the others were, or if they were alive. Normally he would just scan the area and know where his friends were and what injuries they may have.
The problem was: it was all broken.
Zane was normally a walking talking tool box of useful functions. It wasn't everyday he felt helpless. He could normally run numbers at the very least, but with no data, those numbers were just random conjecture. Zane was as blind as a human.
It was funny how upset he was. He had so many moments of envying his friends' humanity, and yet the moment he had any of his nindriod-ity taken away, he hated the idea of being a normal human.
But like it or not, Zane had to figure out what he was going to do.
He didn't want to start trying to dig out without his systems telling him where it was safe to do so. He supposed he didn't have to worry about oxygen. The best course of action was probably to wait. Which did not help the useless feeling in the slightest.
--
Well I'm decently happy of how this considering that Zane isn't one of my strongest characters. (I'm better at him than I am at Cole though!)

Whumptober 2
Decided to let myself have some Kairro. It's been ages since I touched that AU and every time I do it feels self indulgent. Don't know why, a lot of people seem to really like it.
Prompt: "They don't care about you."
Randomly Selected Whumpee: Kai
Selection method: Asked a student I passed in the halls to choose a number.
TW: Blood mention, manipulation
--
“How many times do I have to beat you over the head with it!? They. Don’t. Care. About. You.” Morro snarled.
Kai raised his bloodied face and debated what comeback to use.
“I don’t know. How many times do I have to tell you that I’m not going to let you use your paranoia against me?” Kai said, his lip dripping wine red drops onto the concrete.
“They’re your abandonment issues.” Morro countered.
He was calming down and changing tactics. Probably realized that Kai’s temper had gotten the best of him again.
Morro made an excellent mirror to show Kai how ugly his anger could get if he didn’t control it.
“As if you didn’t have any of those yourself.” Kai laughed, wincing from the pain it caused him.
He just had to buy enough time for the others to find him. Nya was going to turn the whole room into a water park as soon as she saw Morro.
The trick was holding the line against the emotional manipulation. Hard to do when the manipulator lived in you head so long he left some of his things in the guest room.
“I left Wu, remember?” Morro said.
His smirk had Kai convinced he was looking at a mirror for a moment. It was to be expected. It went both ways after all.
Kai knew why Nya looked at him like a stranger sometimes. She never said anything about it, but Kai saw her every time she did it.
It had an effect.
Kai had slowly stopped bragging after Lloyd was forced to admit that he sounded more like Morro when he did it. When all of your friends get noticeably uncomfortable every time you get excited that you won a video game, you stop commenting on it.
Kai wondered how he used to sound when he would brag. How was it different? Did Morro get that trait, or did it disappear? Which one of them had “stronger” bragging mannerisms? If Morro got his way and they fuse, who would they sound like?
Would they sound like Kai when they told jokes? Would they keep that smirk, or would it disappear?
“And I never trusted anyone else long enough to get left behind.” Morro finished, yanking Kai from his thoughts.
He couldn’t think of a good retort. It had only been half a second, but Kai’s mind had wandered miles away from the conversation. It must’ve shown on his face, because Morro snarled again.
“I see you don’t have my focus.” Morro said sarcastically.
It wasn’t Kai’s sarcasm. It was a difference they still had.
Morro grabbed Kai’s face and dragged him up.
“Listen to me. They are waiting for the chance to get rid of you. You serve them now, but what happens when you get annoying? Too angry?”
Morro leaned in so close, Kai could smell the strange ghostly scent his spirit had.
“They will leave you.” he whispered.
“Like my parents?” Kai said with an eye roll.
He saw where Morro was going with it and he was sick of the line of thought.
“If the people biologically programmed to love you couldn’t manage it, why do you think they can?” Morro said as he dropped Kai.
Kai scrapped himself off the ground.
“Because they’re good people.”
“And your parents weren’t?” Morro said with a predatory grin.
Kai shivered and looked away, but he had thoroughly been caught off guard and didn’t have a response.
Just when he thought he had control of the conversation; that he had everything guarded, Morro came at him from an angle he didn’t think of and crawled under his armor. It was how it work from the very beginning.
“So, we agree he doesn’t ‘deserve’ to be the Green Ninja?”
Kai shook his head clear.
“So you don’t think your parents were good people?” Morro asked in a mocking voice.
“I-” Kai could only make the one sound.
“Because you’ve always defended them to Nya. You wanted to be a blacksmith and continue their legacy. You honor them every year on the Day of The Departed.” Morro continued.
“I do.” Kai whispered.
“That doesn’t sound like you hate them.” Morro said.
He was leading Kai to something. Kai didn’t like it, but he didn’t know how to break out of it.
“I don’t.” he confessed.
“But you should.” Morro pointed out.
He sounded so much like Kai’s therapist when he said it. It make Kai’s breath shake. He didn’t like the conversation. He wanted Morro to go back to trying to convince him the other ninja didn’t care about him.
“You should, but you don’t. Is that right?”
Morro didn’t give Kai a chance to answer.
“Then wouldn’t it be a good thing if I could hate them for you? If I could be angry for you? Then you can hate them like you should!”
Kai covered his ears. He knew what he was feeling. It was the same thing as the first time.
“He didn’t ask to be the Green Ninja. We did! Destiny passed up not one, but two perfectly good options to force the responsibility onto a child. That doesn't seem fair. You’re right, he doesn’t ‘deserve’ that! We could not only take what we worked so hard for, but relieve Lloyd of all that pain. That’s a good thing, right? We could work together and fix it!”
That sinking feeling that Morro was making sense. Scrambling for an argument, but nothing making as much sense as Morro’s words. Desperate to not agree, but finding no other thought in his mind.
Kai could only bite his lip and hope his friends were just around the corner. He wasn’t holding out for much longer.

That was just pure fun to write. I'm glad I did this.

Whumptober 1
Wrote this while at work. Forgive the pacing, I kept getting interrupted every other line.
Prompt: Safety Net
Randomly Selected Whumpee: Kai
Selection method: Asked a discord friend to choose a number.
TW: Near death experiences, low-key suicidal ideation (He's not acknowledging it though)
--
The first three seconds of a fall are the worst. After that, your brain realizes what's happening and accepts it. After the first three seconds, it becomes a game of waiting for the ground.
It's funny how many thoughts can race all the way through your mind while you wait for the ground.
This first thought is what is about to happen,
Splat. Graphic, but simple.
The second is what you think about it.
Regret. Relief. A third emotion you don't care to name.
Maybe the third is what the reaction will be from those that will survive you.
A lot more grief than is strictly necessary. You hope the team doesn't break apart again.
Maybe the fourth will be how funny the phrase "survived by" is.
Like you were a danger to your loved ones. Like it was amazing that you managed to die first.
Maybe the fifth is why you stopped falling.
It took Kai three more seconds to process that he was laying in a net, stretched between three buildings. Another second to realize that meant he wasn't falling anymore.
He sat up and looked around in blank confusion. There hadn't been a net when he started to fall. He would've noticed when he thought about what would happen. "Splat" would not have been his answer if he saw a net. That meant it had to be set up between thoughts two and five.
"It worked!" Jay yelled.
Kai looked at the anchor points and saw that it was three bolts that had clearly been launched into place recently. Jay must've invented an automatic safety net.
"That was close." Lloyd sighed "Kai, you better get down. Who knows how long that'll hold for."
It took a few more seconds for Lloyd's words to form instructions. Kai was still thinking about going "splat" vs not going "splat". He was too busy trying to assure himself he wasn't feeling disappointed.
"Kai?" Lloyd said, worry staining his tone.
Kai shook his head clear.
"Sorry. I'm just a little distracted from almost falling to my death." Kai joked.
That must've been it. He was just a little shaken from his near death experience. He had to be imagining that there was a part of him upset at being saved. That would be crazy.
"I'm on my way now." Kai said as he started to crawl down.
He was fine.
--
Narrator voice: He was not fine.
This felt nice. I haven't written a one shot in like a year.

Whumptober 1
Ah, Misako, the complicated woman. Fun to write.
Prompt:  “This wasn’t supposed to happen”
Non-ninja: Misako
--
Misako was on her knees in the middle of her trashed office. He wedding ring was sparkling as bright as it had the day she’s gotten it, when the glimmer promised her a beautiful and hopeful future. Now that promise was a taunt.
“Look at what didn’t happen. Look at what you lost.”
She had half a mind to rip the thing off and throw it. She’d ripped up and thrown everything else. All her research, her work, her life. It was all ruined.
The first thing she had ripped up was the letter Wu had sent informing her of exactly where her missing husband was now and how he’d gotten stuck there. For all their history, he couldn’t even muster up the courage to tell her face to face. He admitted to driving the last nail into her family only behind the shield of distance. He always was a bit of a coward.
Misako’s eyes roamed over the wreckage, skimming over medical books and messy notes. When they landed on torn scrolls on the Great Devourer the numb archaeologist in her cringed. Those were precious artifacts. They could be repaired, but the damage would make them more delicate as time marched on.
The rest of her ignored it though. They had done nothing to help her. As valuable as they were, they had been worthless. Just as she had been. All her education and ruthless study was just smoke on a scale. She hadn’t tipped it at all.
This wasn’t suppose to happen. She wasn’t suppose to be having a breakdown and turning over bookshelves. She wasn’t suppose to be mourning a living husband. She wasn’t suppose to have fate’s weapon sleeping in her son’s crib.
She was suppose to find a cure so that they could have their happily ever after. They had a sweet baby boy that was suppose to have everything they didn’t. The choices Garmadon didn’t have, the freedom Misako didn’t have, and the praise and love neither of them had.
That was the gleaming future she had seen in that diamond ring. That was the parody it now mocked her with.
Garmadon had broken his vows already, it was only fair Misako have the same right. She slipped the ring off her finger and hide it away. She didn’t want to look at her destroyed dreams anymore.
--
Didn’t come out as awful as I feared I was going to do.

Note
What about Kai and Jay after Seabound event in Serial killer Nya, how did they feel after Nya merged with the sea?
I knew it would come to me if I started to write it.
--
Kai was trying very hard to not be relieved. He had just lost his sister, he should not feel relief. Even if the fear was finally gone. No more doubt that she would turn on him, because she wasn’t around anymore. No more stomach churning while he covered for her. For the first time since he was little kid, he wasn’t hiding from a nasty truth.
She was dead and he was allowed to be upset about that. He didn’t have to shove any feelings into the sand.
Her reputation was still his beloved sister. He wouldn’t have to cover anything up ever again.
There would be no more overreactions. Kai didn’t have to hid his injuries or discomfort to protect people anymore.
He lost his baby sister. He grieved her, sure. But he was crying from relief first and formost.
-
Lloyd felt like he had just broken free from a trance. Nya had become a consuming influence on him, darkening his soul shade by shade. Now that she wasn’t there, Lloyd felt clear headed again. He felt himself reset back to a place where murder was wrong and drinking blood was disgusting.
Mostly.
Damage was still done. Lloyd still knew what blood tasted like, still craved it to some extend. He still felt a festering little corner of rot where Nya’s touch would linger. It would probably never go away.
But now he felt like he could lock that up and keep it contained. Like he could finally clear the cobwebs away now that the spider that had been making them was gone. Her corruption was over. Without her, he could tame his darker biology again.
Lloyd hadn’t realized how much of an effect she was having on him until it ended. Was that how it worked? His oni biology never bothered him before he got exposed to Nya’s bad habits.
Murders. They were murders. He was clear headed again and not making anymore uncomfortable excuses.
Maybe his oni blood was diluted enough it only reacted when he was exposed to other forms of evil and destruction. Maybe that was why it only started to act up once Nya engaged it. Now that she wasn’t aggravating it, it was going dormant again.
Lloyd wanted to be sad about the lose of his sister, but he also wanted to adjust to having a confident conscious again. He needed space to think again without Nya’s infection blurring his every thought.
-
Jay was furious.
He’d sold his soul for this girl, and she got taken away!? He had killed his virtue and given the corpse of it to her like an offering. Now he was left with nothing, less than he started with!
It wasn’t fair.
Kai and Lloyd were coping with their own complicated grief. Jay understood and gave them that space. They hadn’t offered their morals up out of devotion like he had. Nya had taken that from them and carved away their objections with fear she wielded like a knife. They were dragged in without a choice, of course it was confusing.
The others though, Jay could scoff. They were grieving like they even knew her. They mourned nothing more than a costume. They assumed Jay’s impatience with them was the fact that she was his yang, dismissed it as a “deeper connection” and not them knowing nothing about her true self.
Jay wanted to honor her, the real her! The entire funeral was a sham; a memorial for a lie. What could he do?
He only had to rack his brain for a week before the answer presented itself.
--
What does Jay do? Well I got tired and didn't want to write that mess. Maybe another time.

Whumptober 5
Sorry it’s a few minutes past midnight. My muse was like a petulant toddler pushing unwanted peas back and forth with a fork, only it was ideas.
But at 11:30 at night, inspiration struck and I decided to play with the meaning of the prompt. I have work in the morning and need to sleep, so no editing, we die like something that dies.
TW: minor self injury (like, really minor)
Prompt: Blood Loss
Non-ninja: Lil’ Nelson
--
The first time he got hurt, Nelson was so excited to see it pixel and reform. It was the coolest thing he’d ever seen. Not to mention the exhilaration of not feeling pain or gaining injury! Nelson laughed so hard his head snapped backwards hard enough to yank his neck.
But it didn’t hurt.
Nothing hurt in Prime Empire. He was free to run around and do all the stupid reckless things he’d always been too fragile to do. It was the best day of his life. He lost a life doing dumb stunts, but he wasn’t worried about it. It was worth it for the experience of falling off a building with not so much as a bruise.
Nelson got his accumulated two full years worth of various hospital stays worth of adrenaline filled nonsense. He had always been hurt in mundane ways, Nelson felt like he was overdue for his free pass to run wild. And on that first day, he truly did.
But day two is when it started to get boring.
Day three is started to get uncomfortable.
Day four is when panic started to set in, when the wrongness caught up. Nelson tried to clip himself on something, and only saw those unnatural pixels. No cut. No blood. Never a drop of blood. Never a prick of pain.
It was suffocating. Nelson felt like he was made of cotton that couldn’t rip. There was no flesh to tear, no bones to break, no pain to feel.
The numbness was maddening. Nelson wanted out. He wanted to feel again. He wanted his flesh and body back. He wanted his bones. He wanted his blood. He wanted his pain.
Nothing felt real anymore, because none of it was. Nelson was starting to feel like he himself was no longer real.
Forget cotton, Nelson was nothing so solid. He was air. No less still! Nelson was a void. A nothing! There was nothing there. He was just empty space pretending to be a person. There was nothing to him. He wasn’t real anymore.
He tries to exit the game, but it doesn’t work. He wants to leave. He can’t. He’s not real anymore.
The blood would be rushing in his ears if he still had any. His heart should be pounding, but there was no grounding drum in his chest. Nelson wanted his realness back. The numbness was agony. It had to end.
And it did. The ninja stopped it and saved everyone. Nelson went home to his worried mother. Nelson felt solid again. He felt real. But he had to know. He needed to know if it was all back, or if he was still filled with pixels and nothing.
That night he gave himself a paper cut and watched it bleed with relief.
--
Yeah, I decided “Blood loss”? Define “loss” here. Instead of standard “bleeding” what if we go with a more “you lost your blood.” route and give some bloodless being angst to somebody?

ooooh!!! That was so GOOD!
I love how you set that up. Kai not realizing something was wrong until it was too late. And the eye color thing! Perfect!
Best thing to wake up to!

Reverse Prompt Time! (Personal Prompt: Evil Hypno Lloyd)
Trigger Warnings: Mind Control, mention of drinking (it’s just someone wondering if they have a hangover no actual drinking occurred in the making of this fic)
Kai jolted awake, disoriented. Blinking the sleep out of his eyes, he tried to take in his surroundings, but it all seemed too bright for some reason, blindingly so.
Groggily, the master of fire sat upright, finally registering where he was—it was his room on the Bounty. Which…was strange, as last he could remember he was back at the monastery…what had happened?
Trying to recall anything in the way of an explanation, Kai drew a blank. It was like part of his memory had skipped, like a broken record, leaving an unsettling gap.
And a splitting headache. With how he felt, the red ninja honestly wondered if he’d somehow gotten drunk, because he was pretty sure he’d heard hangovers be described like this. But then again, he couldn’t remember drinking anything (and if he had gotten drunk everyone would probably have killed him for doing so, so it probably wasn’t that).
Kai shook his head, letting out a soft groan. Well, whatever this was, maybe the others would know what had happened and could fill him in? That seemed like his best shot.
(Something felt wrong about all of this.)
Unsteadily, feeling like the world was spinning around him, he got to his feet and managed to stumble over to the door, holding his forehead with one hand as a wave of dizziness hit him.
“Hey, g…guys?” he called out, his voice slurring slightly for some reason. Seriously, why did he feel so out of it?! It was getting annoying…and a bit paranoia-inducing, if he had to be honest.
“Kai?!…What’s the matter?” he could hear Lloyd call from down the hall.
(Why did he sound so…surprised?)
“Lloyd? Do you…know why I feel like I…just…got hit by a bus? No, wait…that…doesn’t sound right…” Kai could barely think through the sharp, ringing pain in his head, and it bled through into his words.
Lloyd was silent, but the red ninja could make out footsteps coming towards him, and soon his adopted little brother was standing in the doorway, a concerned look on his face.
“That sounds painful,” the master of energy said with a slight grimace. “Can you…remember anything?”
Kai shook his head. “If…I could, I…wouldn’t be asking…” He winced as another jolt of pain hit him. “Agh, it…it’s making it…”
“I could try to help,” Lloyd offered, causing the master of fire to give him a confused look. “Oni hypnosis, remember? I bet I can dull the pain.”
Right—he’d almost forgotten the green ninja had that ability, because it didn’t come up very often.
“Honestly…try anything you want, it…really hurts…”
The blonde gave him a grin, almost a…dark grin? Why would he…Kai could barely keep his thoughts straight with the pounding ache assaulting his head, and try as he might just couldn’t connect the dots in front of him.
“Got it. Just watch, okay?”
Wait…didn’t Lloyd’s eyes usually glow green when he did this? Because they looked red this time…and it felt uncannily familiar…
“You’re feeling very calm now, very relaxed, all the pain and confusion is draining away…”
As he heard this, the throbbing started to subside as the master of fire felt a sudden haze clouding his senses, like his head was being filled with cotton.
He did feel calm now. Overwhelmingly so.
Drooping slightly, Kai’s gaze remained fixated on the glowing crimson orbs in front of him, unable to look away, and his own eyes started to glaze over.
“You like this feeling, don’t you?”
Absently, he nodded, a dazed look on his face.
“Y-yeah…hey, Lloyd, I think…I think I…”
“Oh, we’re not done yet, Kai.”
The words seemed to amplify and echo, tugging at something inside him.
(This whole situation suddenly felt all too familiar.)
“Just let me take over for now.”
And then it clicked, and Kai realized what was wrong with all of this, finally remembering why he must’ve felt so weird earlier.
And his eyes widened in fear, a spark of alertness returning.
“W-wait, no, what are—n-not—not again—“ he managed to stutter out before Lloyd suddenly silence him with a hand over his mouth.
“Kai, it’s alright, you can trust me. It’ll all be fine. You only have to calm down and listen to me.”
The forced relaxation was oppressive now, forcing his limbs to go limp against his will. Struggling against the blond’s grip on his face, keeping him quiet and forcing him to keep eye contact, the red ninja tried desperately not to succumb again to his brother’s control.
But he’d willingly let it start to take hold. He stood no chance.
And he couldn’t fight it.
“Do you hear me? Nod if you can hear me.”
With a shudder, Kai finally felt the hypnosis, felt the dominating force on his element, reassert itself completely, and he nodded.
“Good. I don’t know how you managed to slip out of it, Kai, but you can’t let that happen again, understand?”
“I understand, Lloyd…”
“But there is a bright side to this—there’s apparently after effects, so if anything like this does happen again I can handle it easily. After all, you ended up walking right back in.”
Lloyd was pacing through the room now, but then stopped and turned to the master of fire with a wicked smirk.
“So I think I’ve got it all covered.”
(There were a lot of ideas Ivy threw at me for options under the general prompt of “Something for the Evil Hypno Lloyd AU, but her last idea, Kai temporarily snapping out of it and having to get put back under, made me go YES so here we are!
Hypnotic Hangovers—who’d have thought? Me. That’s who.
Lloyd takes a different approach than the first time because honestly he had the perfect lead-in to do it without Kai noticing till it’s too late.
And just—I, freaking LOVE, this AU? Like, a heck of a lot.)

Whumptober 2
There was really only one character/scene for this prompt.
Prompt: Confrontation
Non-ninja: Vania
--
Vania was starting to think her birthday was cursed. It never seemed to work out, and she could count the years she hadn’t had anything to cry over on one hand. It was why her father was willing to go as far as to invite the seven foreigners to her party this year. He thought going to such an extreme to let Vania meet her heroes could out weight any issues that came up. Not uncalled for after having to cancel her party for a funeral last year.
At the time Vania had thought losing her grandmother on her birthday would be the worst birthday of her life. She truly believe nothing could top that. She was wrong. This was worst.
She had been trying to salvage things all day, even taking action into her own hands and going into the mines to save her idol. If things had played out from there, she would’ve called that a success. Saving the kingdom along side her heroes could be a good birthday.
But when she confronted her father, things fell apart. He was cornered into revealing his awful true colors. Vania couldn’t believe it. He father, the man that had raised her, was a villain. The kind her heroes fought and defeated! He hurt Chompy!
Before Vania could finish wrapping her head around this, she had a choice to make. Her family or her soul. She had no one else, if her father disowned her, she was alone. If she did nothing, good people would die at the hands of someone evil.
Vania was making the choice before she could think about the cost. Her father tried to get her to understand the trade she was making, but it was pointless. How could she make any other choice?
A tiny part of her whined and wished she had stayed in her room, wished she had never learned, wished she had never confronted her father. If she had minded her business in the first place, Cole would’ve thought he was crazy yes, but the ninja would be safe in the guest rooms, her party would’ve happened perfectly, and he father would still be a good man to her.
The slaves in the mines would have no hope of escape. Her father would still be evil. The time bomb would continue to tick.
With one last thought about how much she hated her birthday, Vania jumped.
--
Me? Projecting birthday issues? It’s more likely than you think!

Whumptober 3
Long day at work, almost forgot.
Prompt:  “Say goodbye.”
Non-ninja: Ray and Maya
--
It was strange being so helpless. Their weapons were too far away to reach and they no longer had their elemental powers. Ray and Maya could do nothing bu hug each other in fear as Krux detailed his entire plan and how they fit into it.
“Why would we ever work for you!?” Maya asked bluntly.
It was the one part of the plan she didn’t get.
“I assume you have something more to force our hand then our ‘friendship’?” Ray spat.
The anger he felt was raw. They had trusted Sander; enjoyed his company. Of course they had. Krux had once been a friend, before the Elemental Alliance fell apart. The familiar old banter should’ve been a tip off, but they had been too blind to see it.
“Oh of course I do! What do you take me for?” Krux snarled.
“Then out with it!” Ray demanded.
Krux grinned like he had a knife behind his teeth.
“Your children.” he purred.
“DON’T YOU DARE TOUCH THEM!” Maya screamed, nearly launching herself across the table.
Krux stopped her with the sharp edge of his sword, lucky she had just enough mental facilities to recognize it.
“I don’t intend to.” he said smoothly “Provided you do as you’re told.”
“And if we refuse?” Ray asked, his voice shaking with fear.
“Say goodbye” Krux whispered menacingly, twirling the blade as he did.
Ray and Maya clung to each other tighter. It was a parent’s nightmare! The shuddered in fear and frustration, but the choice was made.
“Don’t hurt them.” Ray said in defeat “We’ll do as you ask.”
“Good!” Krux said with a smile. “Let’s go.”
“Go?” Ray asked nervously “But we need our forge! Kai and Nya-”
“I have a forge for you!” Krux interrupted “It would be better to do your work away from prying eyes, yes? Then it’s settled.”
Krux pushed them forward at sword point while they shuffled anxiously.
“But the kids!” Maya pleaded.
“Do you really want to bring them with you?” Krux laughed.
Ray and Maya paled. Krux was right. They didn’t want Kai and Nya anywhere near Krux and whatever prison he was taking them to.
“At least let me say goodbye!” Maya begged, tearfully.
“You can involved them, or leave them. You’re choice.” Krux growled.
Maya sobbed while Ray put his arms around her and solemnly lead her away. There was no right choice. They could endanger, or abandon their children only. Either way they hurt them. Maya continued to cry the entire walk.
Ray rubbed her arms and back, trying to care for her as best as he could. It was taking all he had to keep his strength up, but he endured.
“We left them!” Maya cried quietly.
“Sometimes, that’s just the way the cookie crumbles.” Ray whispered back. “It was better than the alternative.”
Maya nodded, but her tears didn’t dry.

No proof reading. I’m tired.

Whumptober 7
The forgetting and panic cycle happened earlier in the day, so I got this written before it got stupidly late (or early)
Harumi gets my anxiety attack response.
Prompt: Silent Panic Attack
Non-ninja: Harumi
--
Harumi hated it. The moment she froze up because of a loud noise. She went back and relived that awful day so often and she didn’t get nearly enough sympathy for it.
Her throat closed up and her lungs weren't strong enough to force sound out of her wooden vocal chords. She could breath without a problem, but she was mute. Silently screaming in fear as she felt the building shake and give, saw the ghost image of dust pluming from the collapse, and heard the sirens in the distance of her memory. She couldn’t so much as squeak.
The Emperor and Empress didn’t mind the reaction. They loved how quiet she was. It made it easy to maintain a good image. Screaming or hitting things would be a problem, but no PR disasters came from a silent panic attack.
They gave her a plush safe room she could use to sooth herself, filled with every comfort a princess could demand. But she wasn’t permitted to use it when she was expected to fulfill her duties as Princess, so it was an incomplete gesture. She needed accommodated at all times, not just when it was convenient.
Hutchins told her she had to learn how to handle it without hiding. That it wasn’t good for her to wallow in it every time she had the urge. She had to be “stronger than her fear” or whatever! He said healing was hard work, but what did he know?
When someone broke a vase or dropped a tool, Harumi reacted. It was a fact. There was no stopping it. There was no “healing”. Her voice packed up and left her. Her muscles tensed. She relived it on a loop all day while she curled up under her fuzzy blankets.
She wished people would stop trying to fix her. She was happy with who and what she was, even her selective muteness. It made her something different and better than everyone else. Only she understood how this pain felt. Only she could claim it. Calling herself “The Quiet One” was her embracing that pain; making it her identity.
She would rather live in her flashback forever than let that go.
--
As much as I hate Harumi, she was the only real option for this prompt. My muse said “that one” and wouldn’t budge.
I don’t hate her as a character or villain, it’s more like I understand her too well and she personifies some of my most despised traits. I tried to touch a little on those, but the fic is kind of her perspective so I couldn’t really explain how toxic it is. (Some day I will write that essay)
