So, incredibly cool: Laurie Cumbo is the Commissioner of NYC Cultural Affairs, and she (and her whole family!) wore Moshood, a Nigerian designer that's been a mainstay in New York since the 80s.

Day 08 - Wednesday, July 10, 2019
Tumblr media
It is 'Good Morning America', on W44th & Broadway, at the times square studio. It is 6:00 am, and the streets are empty. People are all dressed up and standing in line waiting to see the show live. I am told today is a good day to get into the studio as not many people have showed up this morning. Never seen a live show outside of Pakistan, i am curious to see how it all goes down.

The show was quite fun - i have to say, the crowd had great energy, and we had some great laughs while we were at it. Standing in line and making it to the front row was definitely worth it and a start to a good morning indeed.

The farmer's market at union square park was something i was looking forward to. We have a similar market that is held every Sunday, the 'Karachi Farmer's Market'. My exploration began at the herbs stall, i grabbed a drink called, 'Ashwagandha', a herbal supplement with Tulsi and Lemon Basil. The supplement, a  strengthening adaptogen that supports the immune and endocrine system. It is also meant to withstand stress with calm nerves and sustained energy. I couldn't be happier sipping on my cold drink as i walked over to the other stalls. The next stall was 'Millport Dairy', a tried the best kind of cheese, made in Lancaster County, PA - i couldn't help but indulge in some sharp cheddar.

Hudson street, my safe haven going over to see Nancy. Putting my self reflection in place, sharing my process has allowed me to open up and explore not only the professional aspect of my life but the personal as well.

I have had a habit to keeping the two aspects of my life separate, only to have come to realise that the merger of the two shall hopefully allow me to come full circle. To understand that allowing myself to slow down and absorb, only makes me more conscious of why i feel and do what i do. My actions have a consequence and what i choose to do must come from a place of honesty - so i try and be true to who i am, without hiding in my own shadow - must begin and put them pieces together.

The Harlem neighbourhood has a different vibe, as compared to the others around NYC. It was quieter and i didn't see any tourists around, mostly people that belonged to the area/ community. The Schomburg Centre of Research in Black Culture, is screening 'God Calling', I am getting there a little earlier to see the exhibit and familiarise myself the Harlem history. The movie was being screened at the Langston Hughes Auditorium, with panelists Karibi Farbara, Bukola Shonuga, Bobby Digi Olisa and Richard Lyasere, which was moderated by Aisha Diori and Felix Omozusi.

North Shore Assembly race
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — With the North Shore Assembly race only six weeks away, the three candidates — all with deep ties to the 61st Assembly district — have racked up significant endorsements.
Assemblyman Matthew Titone (D-North Shore) triggered an open race in the district after he announced in March that he won’t seek re-election and will run for the Staten Island Surrogate Court judgeship.
Here is a look at those who support each of the candidates.
Charles Fall
(Staten Island Advance/Clifford Michel)
Charles Fall
Charles Fall,  chief-of-staff to the city Parks Department’s Staten Island commissioner and an ex-aide to Mayor Bill de Blasio, is endorsed by: the Staten Island Democratic County Committee; the New York State Reform Party; The NYS Supreme Court Officers Association; the Civil Service Employees Association Local 1000; and the Muslim Democratic Club of New York.
Bobby Digi Olisa
(Staten Island Advance/Jan Somma-Hammel)
Bobby Digi Olisa
Bobby Digi Olisa, right, has been endorsed by: District Council 37, New York City’s largest public sector union; the Public Employees Federation, which represents over 50,000 scientific and technical workers in New York state; Social Services Employees Union Local 371 AFSME.
Olisa, a small business owner and founder of two North Shore civic advocacy groups, was also endorsed by the Staten Island Independence Party and the Staten Island Democratic Association (a civic advocacy group, not to be confused with the Staten Island Democratic Party).
The day he announced his candidacy, he received the backing of Brooklyn City Council Majority Leader Laurie Cumbo.
Patricia Kane

The Westerleigh Democrat was also endorsed by the Working Families Party.
North Shore Assembly race
A little over six weeks from the primary election, Fall has $35,420.44 cash-on-hand. Olisa has $32,431.48 cash-on-hand, and Kane has $10,198 cash-on-hand.
The term cash-on-hand refers to the amount of money a candidate has to spend after expenditures
The Democratic primary election is on Sept. 13. There are no Republicans running in the 61st Assembly district.
