Attention ! Attention!
Security Alert !
There is a very sinister plot to further spill the blood of #Biafra youths and innocent Biafra citizens of adult age especially in Imo state . This is just to satisfy the lust for political power and to win the #IMO state Governorship for another 4 years by the worst enemy of Biafra, Ndigbo and South Eastern region.
Since early this week Hope Uzodinma has been ferrying abducted innocent Imo youths by #Ebubeagu militia and their Nigeria security forces handing them over to #DSS and military intelligence unit in Abuja for further detention and killing of these arrested youths .
This latest gimmick by Hope. Uzodinma , gathering Igbo politicians to speak for Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s release is a deceptive move at the highest level , that meeting of Igbo politicians had paved way for him and his ulterior motives. During his meeting with Bola Ahmed Tinubu in Aso Rock , that meeting of Igbo politicians facilitated his plan and it has solidified his request from Aso Rock to approve a new deployment of soldiers to be sent to Imo state and other south eastern state , soldiers are expected to be deployed from village to village, community by community, local government by local government, in fact its full militarization of Imo state , the state could witness another kind of killings and forced disappearances of Imo indigenes before the November governorship election just to pave way for Hope Uzodinma to retain power in Imo state.
Hope Uzodinma’s main targets this time are those frustrated voters, those aggrieved Imo state citizens, and supporters of Labour party , Peter obi and the obidients movement whom they have deviously tagged as #IPOB members and unknown gun men above all they have falsely claim that it’s those supporters of Labour Party and Peter obi are behind those enforcing sit at home as well as killing and kidnapping of people.
Unfortunately , Hope Uzodinma has used Ohaneze president chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu in gathering Igbo politicians because had it been that meeting was called by Hope Uzodinma many Igbo politicians would not attend that meeting. Hope Uzodinma has fine tuned another operation Python dance in South East especially in Imo state . Take this to the bank .
#APC is coming to the south East with another strategy to attack South East , we must all be on high alert, the days ahead are not funny that’s why their sponsored agent provocateurs was mandated to announce a new sit at home to pave way for all these plans they were figuring how to orchestrate the plans against Biafrans and with this their evil plans , the possibility of releasing of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu soon is very slim if we fail to thwart these plans quickly .
Be assured that as long as IPOB remain all their plans will definitely fail woo fully.
Never you forget this is an existential threat against every Biafra both home and abroad .

Nigeria’s migration policies are extensive on paper. Designed to address both emigration and immigration, they reflect the country’s role as a migration hub in west Africa.
They aim to balance the benefits of migration with the need for security and orderly management of migratory flows in and out of Nigeria. But the policies are often poorly implemented.
The implementation of migration policies in Nigeria has faced longstanding challenges. These include resource constraints, institutional weaknesses, lack of coordination among stakeholders and corruption.
This is mainly due to a reactive rather than proactive approach to migration governance by the government in certain areas. Nigeria’s policies and law combating human trafficking and managing migration were often crafted in response to immediate crises or external pressures rather than as part of a strategic, long-term vision.
This reactive approach has led to piecemeal and sometimes contradictory policies. An example was the Expatriate Employment Levy endorsed on 27 February 2024 by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. A month later it was swiftly suspended following a backlash from businesses, trade unions and other stakeholders.
The policy’s introduction without adequate consultation points to the lack of coordination and foresight that hampers effective migration governance and management in Nigeria.
The country faces significant migration challenges, both internally from forced migration and displacements, and from citizens wanting to leave for opportunities abroad.
Socio-economic and political factors shape this landscape.
Internally, Nigeria grapples with severe socio-economic disparities and high unemployment, political instability and periodic conflicts. This is particularly true in the north-east, which is plagued by insurgency. These conditions have led to large-scale internal displacements and forced migration.
According to the United Nations Refugee Agency, Nigeria had over 3 million internally displaced persons by April 2024. The estimated number in the north-east is 2,305,335.
Many Nigerians seek better opportunities abroad, contributing to a diaspora of skilled and semi-skilled professionals. This trend is often called the “japa” syndrome.
As a researcher with an interest in international trade law, comparative regional integration and development, I believe the free movement of people is a cornerstone of African integration and development.
I am part of the New South Institute’s Migration Governance Reform in Africa programme, which launched a study to map out ways to ease movement and settlement, and improve migration management, by Africans across African borders.
My latest paper for the programme, focusing on migration governance frameworks in Nigeria, is the fourth instalment in the series. In the paper I highlighted the interplay between regional and national migration policies, emphasising Nigeria’s role in the Economic Community of West African States.
The study reveals progress in legal frameworks and institutional policies aimed at enabling migration while addressing security and economic challenges.
It also underscores the importance of coordinated efforts and robust governance to improve the ease of movement and economic integration in the region.
What’s in place and what’s missing
Historically Nigeria has experienced substantial inflows and outflows of people.
Being a member of Economic Community of West African States (Ecowas) has played a role. The bloc’s protocols give citizens the right to move between countries in the region without a visa. It also gives them right of residence and to set up businesses. The protocols have long been seen as a positive example of a free movement regime on the continent.
Domestically, Nigeria has made strides in migration governance, passing several laws and policies. Laws include the Immigration Act, immigration regulations, migration policy and a new visa policy adopted in 2020.
There are also policies to promote good governance of labour migration, protect displaced populations, ensure diaspora engagement and a law to combat human trafficking.
But the policies lack coherence, and there’s poor implementation.
The introduction and then withdrawal of the Expatriate Employment Levy is an example.
The levy mandated businesses employing expatriates to pay US$15,000 for a director and US$10,000 for other workers. The idea was that this would drive economic growth and foster local workforce development.
The levy had potential benefits, like encouraging local content and skills transfer. But it wasn’t well planned.
Laws and regulations also suffer from poor execution. These include the 2015 National Migration Policy and the 2014 National Policy on Labour Migration.
The National Migration Policy aims to protect the human, civil and economic rights of Nigerians abroad, and encourage orderly migration of Nigerians.
The National Policy on Labour Migration is supposed to protect migrant workers and their families left behind, and use labour migration to benefit development.
But applying regional frameworks like the Ecowas protocols to the national level lacks consistency. It creates gaps in migration governance.
Nigeria has no legal framework directly addressing the Ecowas protocols’ clauses on equality of treatment. It has introduced the Ecowas travel certificate and common passport, and created a revised national identity number. The idea is to eventually make cross-border movement easier.
But, as noted in my paper, what’s missing are the migration laws and policies that would underpin employment security of migrant workers, including Ecowas citizens.
Also, the country’s frameworks are silent on the reemployment and training of community citizens or giving them preferential treatment over other migrant employees in case of job loss.
The gaps stem from an inadequate translation of policy documents into actionable programmes. The reasons for that include insufficient funding and a lack of coordination among the many stakeholders involved in migration management.
Far-reaching implications
Nigeria’s migration challenges have far-reaching implications. They affect its socio-economic development, regional stability and international relations.
The country’s sizable diaspora contributes significantly to remittances. But it also represents a loss of skilled labour. The internal displacement crisis, fuelled by conflict and economic hardship, strains resources and adds to socio-political tensions.
Nigeria must be more proactive about these challenges. This begins with seamless coordination among government agencies, the private sector and civil society. Regular stakeholder consultations would help to align policies with real-world needs.
Adequate funding and specialised training for immigration officers are crucial to deliver an efficient service.
Robust data systems, backed up by regular censuses and surveys, should inform policy decisions.
Simplifying visa and work permit processes and ensuring transparency would create safe, legal migration pathways.
Socio-economic reforms tackling unemployment, poverty, insecurity and regional development would create sustainable livelihoods.
Finally, honouring Ecowas commitments would foster regional integration and stability. So would working with regional partners on common migration challenges.

Olagoke to extend British honour gains to Nigeria
The Minister of Arts, Culture and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musa Musawa, has described the latest Order of the British Empire (MBE), Nigerian-British artist Lanre Olagoke as a visionary professional.
The Minister who joined other Nigerians in the UK at a post-award gathering organised in honour of Olagoke also assured the artist of Federal Government’s support.
Few weeks ago, Olagoke was honoured with MBE by King Charles III, at a ceremony in Windsor castle where Prince William represented the British monarchy. At the post-award party, Olagoke assured Nigerians that he will formally present his MBE to Nigeria, through the President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led Federal Government. Olagoke was merited for his Art-Alive Arts Trust (AAAT), in what the British government said stands “for services to charity and young people.”
During the award ceremony at Windsor Castle, U.K, Prince William described Olagoke’s activism in art as “great things” in “long service” as well as “considerable achievements.” The prince noted that the youths that went through Olagoke’s Art-Alive Trust activities have made “selfless commitment to their communities.”
After Olagoke formally received his MBE Award from Prince William, select Nigerians in diaspora joined others to celebrate the awardee. “It is my honor to celebrate the remarkable achievements of an extraordinary artist, visionary, and founder of Art-Alive UK, Sir Lanre Olagoke, MBE,” Musawa stated. “We not only appreciate his incredible art but also commend a man whose contributions to the world of art and community have earned him the prestigious recognition of being conferred by King Charles.”
The minister who was represented at the Nigerian event by her Deputy Personal Assistant, Amira Ibrahim, noted that Olagoke is a name that resonates with passion, creativity, and a commitment to making the world a better place through art. She recalled that Olagoke’s journey has been one of relentless dedication, transforming the artistic landscape and touching countless lives along the way. She explained that the MBE honour represents a testament to Olagoke’s significant impact and the high regard in which he is held.
Disclosing parts of his immediate plans, Olagoke hopes to extend AAAT’s activities to his Nigeria, working in partnership with the federal government. “Art-Alive had done quite a few activities outside the UK, including one in Lagos, empowering less privileged youths with creative knowledge,” Olagoke recalled. “With the support and encouragement coming from the Minister, Hanatu Musawa, I am further energised to do more, working with the Federal Government of Nigeria.”
Bisi Ilaka, former aide to Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, and renowned illustrator and artist, Bob Murdock, among others, attended the post-award party. Musawa who is expected to lead the FG’s creative agency in welcoming Olagoke back in Nigeria later in the year agreed that Olagoke’s honour goes beyond his personality. “His recognition by King Charles is not just a personal accolade but a celebration of the power of art to make a difference,” Musawa said. “It highlights the importance of nurturing creativity and supporting artists who strive to bring positive change to society.”
Early in the year, the British government announced over 1,000 diverse recipients to receive the king’s honour, of which Olagoke seemed to be the only artist on the list. “The New Year Honours List recognises the exceptional achievements of people across the country and those who have shown the highest commitment to selflessness and compassion,” British Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak, said in his announcement of the awardees. “To all honourees, you are the pride of this country and an inspiration to us all.”
Olagoke founded Art-Alive Arts Trust, as a charity in the UK, in 1997, as a platform to help young people in various settings from primary schools to prisons access the arts. Olagoke’s AAAT has been engaging participants in various art workshops within and outside the UK.

2023: Afenifere Youths in Southwest Promise Peter Obi 5 Million Votes
South West youths have promised to back Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party and deliver not less that five million votes for him in the coming elections The promise was given to Obi on Sunday, February 19, by the Afenifere national youth council led by its president, Eniola Ojajuni Ojajuni on Sunday. He said Obi stands out in his plans for Nigeria and that the southeast is next in line to produce country's president Abandoning Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Afenifere national youth council has vowed to support the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi with no less than five million votes in the coming elections. Speaking on Sunday, February 19, the national president of the council, Eniola Ojajuni, stated that Obi is getting the backing of the group because of his track record while he was a governor of Anambra state. Ojajuni added that a point in Obi's manifesto is his plan to restructure Nigeria if and when he becomes president come February 25, New Telegraph added. Disclosing that the decision to endorse Obi came after much brainstorming and consultation, the council's boss said: “We are here to endorse the candidate of the LP, Obi officially as the sole candidate for the Southwest youth wing. It took us almost three months to reach the conclusions amongst 147 youth groups in Yoruba land, and today, we officially announced Obi and his running mate, Ahmed Datti, as our sole candidate for the presidential election on Saturday. “Before we endorsed him, Obi assured us that the first thing he would do is to restructure the country." “We believe that the election will hold, and it will be free and fair and the youths in the SW are ready to vote obi. Our target is to give him five million votes" For him, it is the turn of the southeast to produce a president since other geopolitical zones have had their fair share of the presidential seat. His words: “The reason we endorsed Obi is because the Yoruba has had his shot in the presidency through former President Olusegun Obasanjo, likewise former President Goodluck Jonathan who is from the south-south. "Our current president Muhammadu Buhari is from the North. It’s the turn of the Southeast to produce the presidency, for equity and justice." Obi had once again eclipsed his counterpart, Bola Tinubu of the APC and Atiku Abubakar of the PDP in the latest election poll organised by Nextier SPD, an African-based international development consulting firm. According to a tweet sighted by Legit.ng on the official page of the Labour Party on Sunday, February 5, Obi racked up a total of 37 percent on the poll and was closely followed by the PDP with 27 percent and the APC with 24 percent. This latest development means Obi is highly favoured to win the presidential polls few days away from today despite being labelled as the underdog of the presidential polls. Read the full article

The VAT Crucible Planned By FG
Government plans to hit Nigerians with an increase in the Value Added Tax (VAT) rate would be a retrogressive move, according to economists. It would be retrogressive because it would hit the poor harder than the rich in terms of its effects on income. In a country where you have a vast number of the poor such as you have in Nigeria with poor people making up more than 70 percent of the population, it is a shame that the issue even comes up for debate. A value-added tax (VAT) is a tax on consumption. Poorer households spend a larger proportion of their income. A VAT is therefore regressive if it is measured relative to current income and if it is introduced without other policy adjustments. It is recalled that the Federal Government proposed an increase in VAT rate from the current 5 per cent to 50 per cent, raising it to 7.5 per cent. Government justified the proposal as a way of meeting up the recently approved N30, 000 minimum wag Bill. So bad is the proposal that a national leader of the ruling APC, Asiwaju Bola Ahmen Tinubu, the Jagaban of Borgu had to speak out against the planned policy. “Consumers’ spending is slipping, and this is where I will stop and appeal to Professor Yemi Osinbajo, the Vice President, and his team to put a huge question mark on any increase of VAT, please,” Tinubu was quoted as saying at the Bola Tinubu Colloquium in Abuja. “If we reduce the purchasing power of the people, we can further slow down the economy,” he added. This was hours after Minister of Finance, Zainab Ahmed, said the Nigerian government has concluded plans to increase revenue by introducing new taxes. Besides the APC chieftain, the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) has also kicked against the decision, saying that it will only leave the economy in a more vulnerable state. President of the United Labour Congress (ULC) said the workers’ union would not accept any increase on taxes. According to MAN, represented by Segun Ajayi-Kadir, the burden of tax increase will be shifted to consumers who are already experiencing hard times due to low purchasing power. The effect will further exacerbate the rise in inventory of unsold items, and reduce the profitability of manufacturing firms, with many factories shutting their operations. The proposal fails to take cognisance of the tripod of weak growth, high inflation and the concomitant low consumption. Since exiting the last recession, the economy has remained weak, only managing to grow by 2.4 percent in the last quarter. Also inflation has been in the double digit bracket since 2016 or so. In an environment like this, any attempt to weaken purchasing power further can only lead to heightening the misery of the people. Incidentally, Nigerians ranks as the 6th most miserable people in the world according to the latest measurement of the misery index by US economist, Steve Hanke, of the John Hopkins University in Baltimore. By Hanke’s definition, Misery Index is calculated using economic indices such as unemployment, inflation and the rates banks charge on loans. Perhaps, government is misguided or spurred by the whopping N900 billion raised in the last six years via VAT. The calculation perhaps is that, when the rate is hiked by 50 percent, revenues would jump by the rate hike differential. According to PWC, this is rather counterproductive because consumption will drop and the so called target will be missed. “Unfortunately all things are never equal especially when it comes to tax. An increase in VAT rate will inevitably impact on consumption and VAT compliance. The combined effect will reduce the expected revenue”, says PWC. The consultancy known for taxation notes that “beyond the revenue impact, there will be other unintended consequences including, higher inflation, interest rate hike, more unemployment and people will generally become poorer”. The consulting firm further argues that without a VAT registration threshold and zero rating of basic consumption it will increase the burden on the poor and SMEs contrary to the 2017 National Tax Policy and that seeking to expand the VAT net while also increase VAT rate at the same time is a conflicting strategy. A better way of handling the situation, it says, is by tax reform towards expanding the tax net rather than tax hike. “Nigeria can make twice as much from VAT at current rate by reforming the law, expanding the net and ensuring a robust administration rather than by increasing rate. This should include a review of VAT waivers, better policing of the border to improve import VAT collection, framework for VAT on imported services and digital economy. Contemplating an increase in VAT rate now is bad timing and inconsistent with current economic reality. In any case, the likely increase in revenue will not be sufficient to pay the new minimum wage”. The post The VAT Crucible Planned By FG appeared first on Independent Newspapers Nigeria.
