Jerry rescues plants from a redevelopment site and shares tips on how to relocate them.
What to Avoid:
Established gardens often have environmental weed species that were planted unknowingly. In Brisbane these include cocos palm, tradescantia zebrina, coral vine, morning glory and the creeping inch plant which are very hard to eradicate and are weeds you'd rather leave behind. Transporting weeds to a new location can also worsen their environmental impact, so check your local authority’s website to identify each plant’s weed status before taking it with you. Invasive pests, like fire ants, or pathogens and diseases can also be spread with the movement of garden materials. Check the roots to make sure they look clean, and if you live in a containment area contact your local bio–security agency for advice.
Sadly, some plants are simply not worth the effort. Australian native, Lomandra hystrix, while useful is easy to find and very cheap to buy. And a bird of paradise might be tempting but they’re notorious for having incredibly strong deep roots and dense tough growth. You’d need a bobcat to shift it, so save your back and look elsewhere.
Save Seeds:
Seeds are a perfect way for plants to move; they’re already a whole plant packed and ready to travel. Jerry finds a bottlebrush and the Queensland classic, bushmans poison. As the name indicates, all parts of this plant are toxic to ingest, but it's a favourite in gardens for its pretty, sweet-smelling spring flowers which bees adore. This survivor is growing on shale soil and can weather harsh conditions. They’re readily propagated from seed when ripe, just make sure to wear gloves to protect yourself.
Lift Bulbs:
Another group of plants that travel well are bulbs. Hippeastrum can be expensive to buy and slow to establish which makes them valuable to save. To transport, dig them up and let the soil fall away, then trim back the leaves and roots to conserve moisture, and it’s ready to go. The important part to conserve is the bulb itself because that is the energy storage, carrying flowers for next year.
Take Cuttings:
Dracaenas aren’t exactly uncommon; however, they offer instant size through maturity. To propagate a super-sized cutting, use a sharp saw to cut the trunks cleanly at the base. You can tie this against a fence with its base touching soil, and over summer it will take root and can be replanted where you want it. Alternatively, each branch tip will root in the same way offering you a whole garden bed worth of plants. Succulents and cacti can also easily be propagated by cuttings, such as the spineless, night-flowering orchid cactus, Epiphyllum hookeri.
An iconic Queensland combination is a clump of elkhorn ferns growing on the side of a frangipani. In winter, the frangipani loses its leaves, and the winter sunshine benefits the fern. In summer when the leaves return, they shade the fern from the hot summer sun. In return, the elkhorn fern gathers leaves, storing nutrients and moisture to drip feed the frangipani. It's a blissful marriage. To transplant an elkhorn, use a sharp pruning saw to remove individual plants and then pot them up with ordinary potting mix or mount them onto a new tree. Frangipani is best propagated in winter to help the long stems seal over seal before planting. In the summer, there's a risk they may rot before establishing.
Re-potting:
The cast iron plant, Aspidistra, are tough as nails and are often found growing happily in the shadiest of spots. They’re permanently lush and green and can be dug up whole or broken into smaller clumps before re-potting. Ferns such as the native kangaroo fern, exotic rabbit foot fern and Boston fern can be repurposed in the same way but need some extra care. To transplant a fern, line an old hanging basket with a plastic bag with holes in it to conserve moisture during transit. You can disguise the bag with coconut fibre, then plant the fern in with potting mix. Keep it damp and in the shade so that it doesn’t drop any fronds, and eventually it will grow into a living sphere of foliage.

I want a part of my city to have very confusing addresses because they don't go in order and even cardinal directions are not logical. Only a couple of streets I added why the city created addresses like that and it's due to reconstruction. But for the rest of it I have no logic why other than just to have characters lost for plot reasons. Do I need a city history or just write it in as is? Because someone said that's lazily jamming in getting lost plots. But characters may not know history.
Constablewrites: You as the author need to know the history, because there’s a difference between something like London where a lot of small settlements got absorbed wholesale into the metropolitan area and something like Boston which expanded from more or less a single starting point without any central planning or oversight. Your readers don’t need to know that history, they just need to have it depicted consistently.
That said, how long have your characters been in the city and how frequently do they get around it? When I first moved to my present city, if someone had directed me to the cross streets of 96th Terrace and 96th Terrace, I would have asked them to repeat themselves several times because clearly I misheard. Now if someone brings up that intersection it’s just, “Yeah, okay.” I don’t have to understand the logic behind how that particular address came to exist to know that it does exist and how to get there. So if a character should have a basic knowledge of how to get around and still gets lost, that’s gonna need some mitigating circumstances (like something specifically happened and got them turned around) or it’s gonna feel contrived.
I should add the caveat that when building a real city, there’s always a reason to take each step. It may not be a good reason, or it may not be taking into account a bigger picture or thinking about future developments. Medieval city planners weren’t imagining how to deal with automobile traffic or sophisticated mass transit, they were building out in a way that was logical and reasonable at the time for their specific needs. Then the world changes, and the people in charge have to decide if it’s worth trying to make updates or if they just have to kind of deal with it. And some updates are easier to make than others. It’s pretty straightforward for someone to come in and say, “No, your house numbers are all out of order and that’s stupid, here are your new numbers,” to the point that it would require some explanation for why that never happened. But “No, this street doubles back and crosses this other one in three different places and that’s stupid” is the sort of thing that would be a much more intensive fix that’s likely not worth the effort. (There’s also the possibility that one administration got started on a major redevelopment initiative that was then sidelined by budget or war or politics, leaving things more haphazard than before.)
Finally, any sort of obvious “get the characters where I want them to be so that plot can happen” device is the sort of thing that has to be used sparingly or you risk losing readers. The exception is if it’s clearly and deliberately That Sort of Story, where the rule of funny trumps everything or where the city is sentient and can rearrange itself on a whim, something like that. Otherwise, if characters are constantly getting lost to advance the plot, I’m gonna need some sort of justification for that so they don’t just seem too dumb to root for.

Best Swing Trading Stocks: Week of 07-22-2022
Tumblr media
Hello to all our readers including Traders, Investors, Analysts, and others!!!!
Let’s recap this week’s latest news. RIVN, Financial) and its biggest customer Amazon.com Inc. (AMZN, Financial) announced a landmark step in their partnership; Amazon has now begun delivering packages with electric vans from Rivian. Federal authorities brought the first-ever cryptocurrency insider-trading case Thursday, accusing a former Coinbase Global manager of tipping off his brother and a friend with confidential information and signaling in a companion case an aggressive new push to police digital tokens. Mattel CEO Ynon Kreiz told CNBC’s Jim Cramer that the company’s highly anticipated Barbie movie finished production on Thursday.
If you are a regular reader, you may be already aware, we recommend 10-12 stocks in 2 different categories – 1. ValueGrowth and 2. TechFund, to fit different trading styles and strategies. You can find more details about these strategies in our FAQ section. This is more of a swing trading, as we keep balancing our portfolio on a weekly basis, mostly on Friday. If you are new, welcome. Visit our site to get all relevant information about stocks and make sure to subscribe to our newsletter to get updates on our Swing Trading Stock Picks. We send out our newsletter as soon as we publish our stock picks. We hope that you love our articles and get all the details so keep coming to our site for more information. Swing traders primarily use technical analysis for swing trading, but here we combine technical analysis with fundamental analysis and choose the best stock market investment which is best and safe for swing trading. We have tested out our strategy with more than 20 years of data and it performed well against S&P 500.
Here we are again with this week’s recommendations. Please note that overall the market was very much on the upside, and whether you are following our recommendations or not, I am sure if you have been trading this week ending today then you must have collected a lot of profits. If not, and you are skeptical about the market, add swing trading to your trading strategy and get started to follow our recommendations. We are going to publish the performance results for the last few months and this year to date, to give you some ideas of how we have been compared against the S&P 500 and other major indexes.
Now let's look at our picks for this week.
StockXpo's – ValueGrowth Strategy
As you know, this is more like Buffett's Value Strategy, but our stock-picking criterion is to pick the top 3 out of such value stocks. Moreover, we are more likely to hold them for the short term, not the long term. Our backtesting suggests that weekly balancing gives very good results week over week and year over year, it can grow your portfolio exponentially if you just consistently follow these strategies. So our picks are LBTYA, CDR and PAM in this category.
Tumblr media
LBTYA(Liberty Global plc): Liberty Global plc, together with its subsidiaries, provides broadband internet, video, fixed-line telephony, and mobile communications services to residential and business customers. It offers value-added broadband services, such as intelligent WiFi features; security; smart home, online storage solutions, and Web spaces; Connect Box, a set-top or Horizon box that delivers in-home Wi-Fi service; community Wi-Fi via routers in the home, which provides access to the internet; and public Wi-Fi access points in train stations, hotels, bars, restaurants, and other public places.
CDR(Cedar Realty Trust, Inc.):  Cedar Realty Trust, Inc. is a fully-integrated real estate investment trust which focuses on the ownership, operation and redevelopment of grocery-anchored shopping centers in high-density urban markets from Washington, D.C. to Boston. PAM(Pampa Energía S.A.): Pampa Energía S.A., an integrated power company, engages in the generation and transmission of electricity in Argentina. The company has an installed electricity generation capacity of approximately 4,970 megawatts; and 21,414 kilometers of high voltage electricity transmission network in Argentina. It is also involved in the exploration and production of oil and gas.
StockXpo's TechFund Strategy
This is the most active category and we give a lot of preference here to stocks that have strong technical and strong fundamental current and past track records. That’s why we call it the TechFund (TAFA) strategy. Just like other strategies, we pick these companies here for weekly based swing trade recommendations.
Please note that we have added it from this list $ECPG, $USAK, $EVH, $CHEF, $OTTR, $PEB and $ADTN removed $PRPH, $BLDR, $STKL and $WVE

StockXpo's Diversification Strategy
Companies often think about diversification when they reach a certain point in their development. Igor Ansoff identified diversification as one of the four main growth strategies in 1957, and it allows companies to look at other markets or new products to expand their reach and revenue.
Diversification aims to smooth out unsystematic risk occurrences in a portfolio by ensuring that the positive performance of some investments balances out the negative performance of others. Only if the securities in the portfolio are not completely correlated—that is, if they react to market factors differently, frequently in opposing ways—does diversification pay off.
If you are following all strategies and watchlist – here is the recommendation for the StocXpo diversification Strategy-
SELL(NX, PRPH, CNM, CVLG, BLDR, STKL, WVE)
HOLD(ECPG, USAK, EVH)
BUY(LBTYA, CHEF, OTTR, PAM, CDR, PEB, ADTN)

You're Moving To Boston
Boston is a city full of history, most of which is pretty common knowledge you learned about in elementary school. The University of Massachusetts campus at Columbia Point houses the John F. Kennedy Library The Boston Athenaeum (one of the oldest independent libraries in the United States), 70 Boston Children's Museum , Bull & Finch Pub (whose building is known from the television show Cheers ), Museum of Science , and the New England Aquarium are within the city.
Boston, located in Suffolk County , is the capital and largest city of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in the United States The largest city in New England , Boston is considered the unofficial economic and cultural center of the entire New England region.
It was the scene of several key events of the American Revolution , such as the Boston Massacre , the Boston Tea Party , the Battle of Bunker Hill , and the Siege of Boston Upon U.S. independence from Great Britain , it continued to be an important port and manufacturing hub as well as a center for education and culture.
Because of the city's prominent role in the American Revolution , several historic sites relating to that period are preserved as part of the Boston National Historical Park Many are found along the Freedom Trail , which is marked by a red line or bricks embedded in the ground.
Parking in Boston is a full-contact sport, especially in the winter, and tickets, towing, "the boot," slashed tires, and fistfights over parking spaces are not uncommon, especially in the urban core neighborhoods of the North End, South End, South Boston, Back Bay, Financial District, Chinatown, Beacon Hill, and Charlestown.
To the east lies Boston Harbor and the Boston Harbor Islands National Recreation Area The Neponset River forms the boundary between Boston's southern neighborhoods and the city of Quincy and the town of Milton The Mystic River separates Charlestown from Chelsea and Everett, while Chelsea Creek and Boston Harbor separate East Boston from Boston proper.

• New low carbon automated storage building will use the highest levels of air tightness to achieve maximum energy efficiency
• Major refurbishment to deliver an improved environment for staff and visitors, as well as greater biodiversity
On 23 December Leeds City Council granted planning permission for the large-scale redevelopment of the British Library’s site at Boston Spa in West Yorkshire. A major construction project will transform the 44 acre site – originally a World War II armaments factory, and for the past six decades the northern home of the UK national library – into a modern archive capable of storing its growing collection for decades to come. The £95 million Government funded redevelopment will create much-needed storage capacity, with further work dedicated to improving facilities for staff and visitors and making significant improvements to the environmental sustainability of the site.
Following significant government investment announced in the March 2020 Budget, the Library is expanding and refurbishing the West Yorkshire facility just outside Boston Spa, near Wetherby. The Library’s team, supported by Carter Jonas, Project Management and Planning Consultancy teams, submitted a planning application to Leeds City Council last year. The plans reflect the importance of sustainability within the development, which will see the creation of a low carbon archive and new green spaces designed to support biodiversity. The Library’s design team will work alongside Wates Construction, architects, Carmody Groarke, building services engineers, Buro Happold, structural engineer, Price and Myers, and landscape architects J&L Gibbons to advance the aspirations for the site.
The Library has also secured a Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme (PSDS) grant. An additional £8.5 million in funding means a range of energy-saving initiatives are already being introduced at the Boston Spa site, including installing:
• Around 730 solar panels providing a minimum of 225 MWh per annum
• A new ground source heat pump system, which will help reduce the Library’s reliance on fossil fuels and will generate an anticipated 1MW of energy – the equivalent of powering 650 average homes
• Additional smart meters, better insulation and the replacement of low-energy efficiency fluorescent lamps within existing buildings
As part of the new development, 220km of extra shelf space will be created in a new high-density, automated storage building which will have the highest possible level of air tightness creating a low energy passive archive. Once complete visitors to the Library’s Boston Spa site will be able to see the inner workings of the spectacular storage facility through a new public viewing gallery.
The redevelopment of the site at Boston Spa will support and enable the Library’s equally ambitious plans for a major new public centre at Temple Works in Leeds city centre. In July last year, West Yorkshire Combined Authority (WYCA) released an initial £5 million of funding for urgently needed stabilisation works and detailed investigatory work to assess the viability of transforming Temple Works into a new home for the British Library in Leeds. The unrivalled collections, resources and staff based at Boston Spa would power the public-facing offering that is planned for Temple Works.
Phil Spence, Chief Operating Officer of the British Library, said: “We are delighted that Leeds City Council have approved our plans to re-develop our site at Boston Spa to accommodate the UK’s growing national collection and build on our commitment to shaping a brighter climate future. A national library is, by its very nature, a long-term investment and an expression of hope in the future, so it’s essential that sustainability should be at the heart of this development. It marks a major step forward towards transforming our presence in the north of England and creating a sustainable British Library for everyone”.
Councillor James Lewis, leader of Leeds City Council, said: “It’s exciting to see plans to redevelop this important site take a huge step forward and for a prestigious organisation like the British Library to be demonstrating a strong commitment to Leeds and a belief that the city is a fitting home for their unrivalled collection.
“With the British Library’s plans for Temple Works also progressing, it is clear that a long term, sustainable vision for their presence in Leeds is taking shape, which will play a huge part in cementing the city’s ever-growing reputation as a centre for cultural excellence and innovation and supporting high quality jobs in the city.”
Culture Secretary Nadine Dorries, said: “I am delighted that the British Library’s planned development of sustainable storage facilities in Boston Spa has been given the green light. With Government investment, this state-of-the-art facility will help the British Library house its growing collection, expand its presence in the north and bring its ambition for a public site in the centre of Leeds a step closer.”
British Library
We are the national library of the UK and we are here for everyone. Our shelves hold over 170 million items – a living collection that gets bigger every day. Although our roots extend back centuries, we aim to collect everything published in the UK today, tomorrow and far into the future. Our trusted experts care for this collection and open it up for everyone to spark new discoveries, ideas and to help people do incredible things.
We have millions of books, and much more besides. Our London and Yorkshire sites hold collections ranging from newspapers and maps to sound recordings, patents, academic journals, as well as a copy of every UK domain website and blog. Our public spaces are a place to research, to meet friends, to start up a new business or simply to get inspired by visiting our galleries and events. We work with partners and libraries across the UK and the world to make sure that as many people as possible have the chance to use and explore our collections, events and expertise. And we’re always open online, along with more and more of our digitised collection.
British Library’s Boston Spa site
The Library’s 44-acre campus near Boston Spa is home to over three quarters of the Library’s collection of over 170 million items, including books, sound recordings, maps and much more. The collection grows constantly, requiring 8km of new shelving every year – roughly the length of 80 football pitches. The plans for Boston Spa also underpin the British Library’s ambition to open a major new public site in the centre of Leeds powered by the collections and resources based at Boston Spa.
The British Library aims to open its new spaces at Boston Spa by 2026.
