Back in Boston for round three! 💙💛💙 Despite a million challenges in this training cycle, including two months of injury/recovery, I’m beyond stoked to be back for one last round. I heard a quote a few weeks ago that I’ve been repeating in my head: “Don’t rush your come up.” I don’t know what tomorrow’s race will bring, but no matter what, there’s more fun and (mountainous!!!) finish lines in the future, and I can’t wait for all of it ❤️ Happy racing!
Have decided to leave everything behind and become a pirate. Will write as often as possible. #ussconstitution #boston2019 https://www.instagram.com/p/Bx0eVJ9FPoL6ufaFrDeYDNoaw1bFmWKWWOH6yU0/?igshid=p79u5o1zxua1
Yesterday, the Boston Marathon qualifying standards were reduced by 5 minutes. There has already been a lot of commentary in this community, which has been great to see. 💙💛 I’m sure many runners have different opinions about the changes. But I just want to remind you that a time standard doesn’t define you. 5 minutes will not break you. Do not let 11.5 seconds per mile take away your dreams!! 💙💛 Seriously, let’s get pumped about these new challenges. To those of you who feel like the impossible just became even less so, or for those of you who were not accepted for Boston 2019 due to the aggressive cutoff: A BQ is just a time standard. Your PR? Is freaking amazing. It’s unique. You earned it. It’s yours. Never let the 3:35 in the distance take away the glory of your personal best. 💙💛 To those of you toeing the line soon with a 3:35 in mind... I know. It’s crazy timing. As if you already didn’t have to run 5 minutes faster than the existing standard to guarantee acceptance, the elusive goal time itself has officially been written in stone a full 11.5 seconds per mile faster. But don’t let this get to you. Let this fuel you, as a BQ dream has this whole way. Don’t forget the diligent training you have done all summer long. You’ve been preparing for this. And if you run a PR and not a BQ, don’t you dare let an arbitrary standard take away your joy of a hard earned PERSONAL BEST. A 3:30 is hard but so was 3:35. Running either of those times (or any finishing time!) is something to be proud of, regardless of whether you get to run Boston for doing so. 💙💛 And if you’re feeling like a BQ is still ALL you want in the future, then LETS GET READY TO WORK BABY. It’s 11.5 seconds per mile. You are stronger than 11.5 seconds. You are stronger than 300 seconds. You were getting that 3:35? Well you’re getting that 3:30. Keep striving for your dream, remain positive, and keep encouraging yourself. Reaching your goal just got a little more badass, so don’t give up 💙💛 . . #BostonMarathon#BQ#MarathonTraining#BostonMarathon2019#Boston2019#SeeYouIn2020 https://www.instagram.com/p/BoSi3qvliAR/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=qvtc7o948y0s
Only one week until registration! Unfortunately, I'm not in the #bostonqualifier club right now. But missing out makes you appreciate how special it is that much more. I will work hard and I will get back there. ........ #Repost @bostonmarathon with @get_repost ・・・ Good luck to everyone running #LaborDay road races and putting in the hard work and miles towards a Boston qualifier. Today, the #beardedrunningtrucker would like to talk about #Failure a lot of people wouldn’t consider finishing any marathon a failure, nor would I. I’m proud that, with the support of friends, family, a great coach, and the best partner a man could wish for, I finished the #ScotiabankCalgaryMarathon in a time of 3:14:19. It was my third ever marathon, exactly 12 months after my first. I’ve come a long, long way in that year, and I feel like I’ve accomplished a lot. But I had a #Goal and that was to qualifications for #Boston2019 I failed. I couldn’t finish the race as strongly as I would’ve liked, and in the back 10km I lost all real ability to push! I came in 20lbs above the weight I really wanted to be at, I missed out on around two weeks of training mid-cycle (my own choice/fault), and I picked up an injury making my first ever #Podium a few weeks out from the race. I take full responsibility for this failure, and will take every step to make sure I have learned from it! Right, now that’s out of the way, on to the next challenge. I’m signed up for #EdmontonMarathon mid-August. I will use my experience of Calgary marathon to grow, and to improve...never have I been passed in the last 5km of a big race, I am the one who does the sprint finishes, I am the one who beats you at the line. That was a terrible feeling, and I vow to never let it happen again! #OnToTheNextOne (at Calgary, Alberta)
🦄Part 2🦄 I remember at mile 2 I saw a fellow runner with a saying on His shirt "Jesus loves you". That gave me freedom and peace, assuring me that Jesus already loves and accepts me regardless of how I'd perform that day. I let go. Of expectations, pressure to perform, pressure to prove myself to others.. This time I really wanted less of me and more of Him. I surrendered everything to Him. My time was not my goal. His love was. His Glory was. And once I made that my goal, joy and peace that words can't explained flowed through me. Although I was not the champion, I'm (we all are) still champions in His eyes. Why? Because His perspective of success is different from that of this world. Success in His eyes means to do what you're called to do, regardless of how you perform. I just wanted to make Jesus smile and I hope that I did that day. Uplifting His name with every step I took. Thank you Jesus! Only to You be the honor and Glory. 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏 #runforJesus #allforhisglory #boston2019 #blog #blogger #bloggingforJesus #run #runner #running #bostonmarathon #oneboston #bostonstrong #26.2 @bostonmarathon @werunbos #werunbos (at Boston, Massachusetts) https://www.instagram.com/p/B_Bn3FHBCqH/?igshid=g4m9hpv8hqr2

I would like to thank the following groups and individuals who have contributed to my fundraising effort on behalf of the Ava Roy Fund.
Yesterday, CrossFit Prototype in Westborough, MA hosted a Chris Roy WOD which consisted of 4 Rounds of 12 Powercleans, 9 Handstand Pushups, 18 Overhead Lunges, and 24 Burpees. Pictured is my WFD Coworker Barry Sullivan who helped organize this workout for me. Thank you!
I would also like to thank the Sokol Club in Douglas, MA for announcing my marathon run on behalf of the Ava Roy Fund, raising money during their meat raffle today.
A big thank you is in order for the following individuals/groups:
For @nochevalle, I would come out and even participate in a group @bridgerunners picture. Happy Birthday, my friend. Only the best for someone who is one of finest examples of what it is to be a caring selfless human being. On a side note, @msdutchlatte and @elizaq got their Unicorn confirmations and they are #boston2019 bound. 🙌 On top of the birthday celebration for Nacho and special viewing of the Bridgerunners Speed Project video , I got to conduct an impromptu post #projectmoonshotnyc Purple speed session for @alldaydaoyi and Eliza on the Willy B. I know enjoyed it, they may have a different opinion. :) #bridgerunners https://www.instagram.com/p/BqL4jD9BC2l/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=aryoyc6tj52d
The #TorontoWaterfrontMarathon was one of the toughest things I’ve done...to date! The #CalgaryMarathon was my first ever, but it was a case of finish the race and prepare for the next. Yesterday I was aiming for something, and I achieved it with almost maximum effort - I got under 3:10:00, thus qualifying (hypothetically) for #Boston2019 . Three years ago, I could barely complete a game of footy without wheezing or spluttering. I’d like to thank my #Coach #evandoesnthaveinsta Evan Bayer (@agathakeay ) who not only built a training regime around my life, but inspired me to greater things with his unrelenting hard work, and consistent #Winning . Also, all of the support I’ve had from friends, family, acquaintances and social media buddies. It all helps immensely when you’re in a mental slump. Becs, my dad (who flew out from the U.K.), and I really appreciate the hospitality shown by Maggie and Sudhir (@shamericano ), being able to stay right in the #TO made for relative ease in getting to the #StartLine . My race day #supportcrew of Shirley, Jessica, Lilly and Ava were absolutely #Clutch on a day when I needed the cheer! But, most of all, @becsmeltz - I don’t know where I’d be without your unrelenting support, preparation, encouragement, and general perfection! This #Marathon would’ve been all the more difficult had you not decided to fly out and surprise me! You flew around the marathon course on that city bike like a woman possessed and made sure I had everything I needed at all times! I honestly don’t know how you kept it all a secret from me, but I’m so glad you did! I love you. #BeardedRunningTrucker #Toronto #BostonQualifier #Blessed if I missed anyone out, I apologise. Recovering today. Headed for a massage soon. (at Toronto Waterfront Marathon)
