NEW IN THE BOOKSHOP: DISTRIBUTED edited by DAVID BLAMEY and BRAD HAYLOCK (2018) • Texts by Ahmed Ansari, Stuart Bertolotti-Bailey, David Blamey, Justin Clemens, Alex Coles, Neil Arthur & Jonathan Lindley, David Cross, Neil Cummings, Arnaud Desjardin, Sean Dockray & Benjamin Forster, Iliana Fokianaki, Susan Hawthorne, Brad Haylock, Robert Hetherington, Ross jardine, Gareth Long, Markus Miessen & Jens-Maier Rothe, Billie Muraben, Rathna Ramanathan, Patricia Reed, Adrian Shaughnessy & Freek Lomme, Martine Syms & Pip Wallis, Jake Tilson, Eva Weinmayr • The power of knowledge lies not only in generating ideas, but also in controlling their dispersion. For those who would seek to influence others, the dissemination of ideas is paramount. For those looking to protect the fruits of intellectual labor for reasons of profit or ethics, distribution is something to control. Either way, distribution is a key concern across the spectrum of cultural production, particularly at a time when digital networks have facilitated an unprecedented access to audiences. • Bringing together contributors from a variety of backgrounds, Distributed presents the act of distribution as a subject of significant social and economic importance and argues that it merits serious creative consideration. From the attention-seeking impulse of the “influencer” to the democratization of art via books, performances, videos or sound, the increased urge to disseminate is explored here as an elemental phenomenon of our time. • Available via our website. • #worldfoodbooks #openeditions #bradhaylock #davidblamey #distributed (at WORLD FOOD BOOKS)

Speaking of books, this is the best book on graphic design education that I’ve read in ages, published by @occasionalpapers & edited by @shakinlukewood & @bradhaylock . (I hate that I can’t type periods correctly in @instagram . Fucking come on, people.) Amazing insights from folks like @joepottss @jsueda @lucilozatena @elkebeda @frasermuggeridgestudio @radimpesko & so many others. Tons of stuff to make design teachers think, though so many corners to brighten, too. It invigorates me to know that teaching design, as stated within, is a space of teaching and learning for all involved. Thank you Luke & Brad for putting this together. Two resounding thumbs up. Perhaps the most fun moment was reading part of it at a café while some UX dude was telling a UX noob about the design process and totally speaking using rhetorics of domination and patriarchy while they were both craning their necks to see what I was reading as I chortled and at one point guffawed at how in contrast their “design conversation” was with the design conversation recorded in the book—one of inclusivity that spans generations & locales... the way it should be. OPEN TIL 6 PM. NEW IN THE BOOKSHOP: DAMIANO BERTOLI - CONTINUOUS MOMENT (2018) • Comprehensive monograph on the work of Australian artist Damiano Bertoli. • “Melbourne artist Damiano Bertoli is best known for the ongoing series ‘Continuous moment’, a multidisciplinary practice that offers a paratactic investigation of artistic experiments, social projects and theoretical legacies that inform the history of modernism and contemporary art. At the centre of much of this thought and production is a delirious pragmatism that draws on material as diverse as Pablo Picasso’s 1941 surrealist play Le desire attrape par la queue (Desire caught by the tail), originally performed under the shadow of Nazi occupation, the aspirational practices of Superstudio (1966–78), which sought to live without architecture, and the occultism of the homicidal sect led by Charles ‘Willis’ Manson. What is decisive, in any case, is that for Bertoli the unity of this practice resides in a display methodology that echoes a number of avant-garde principles that question the backward looking gaze." - Nik Papas • Published by Surpllus. Designed by Ziga Testen, Edited by Brad Haylock. Profusely illustrated throughout in colour and black and white, with accompanying essays by Justin Clemens, Helen Hughes, Helen Johnson, Nik Papas, Chris Sharp, Liza Vasiliou. • Available via our website and in the bookshop today. • #worldfoodbooks #DamianoBertoli #Surpllus #ZigaTesten #BradHaylock #JustinClemens #HelenHughes #HelenJohnson #NikPapas #ChrisSharp #LizaVasiliou (at WORLD FOOD BOOKS)
