“Hey babe, me and the Daggers are heading to the Hard Deck for a couple of drinks. Want to come?” Bradley says in his usual soft tone as he sweeps you up into a hug, holding you close as if he hadn’t seen you in years when in reality he had simply gone upstairs for a few minutes and just returned downstairs.
“If they’re okay with me tagging along.” You say, curling your arms around Bradley and resting your head just above his heart and listening to the gentle thudding of his heartbeat.
“They’re always okay with you coming. If they weren’t, they’d have to deal with me and Mav.” Bradley says, his soft chuckle rumbling against your ear before you lift your head off his chest, laughing to yourself as you visualise your boyfriend and your dad teaming up against all the Daggers. While you were Maverick’s daughter, you weren’t an aviator, instead, you had opted to work in nursing and found yourself working in a hospital local to where your dad and boyfriend worked.
“Guess we’re going to the Hard Deck then.” You say with a soft smile as you look up at Bradley as he looks down at you, leaning down to press the gentlest of kisses against your lips. When you both pull away, Bradley’s phone buzzes and he lets out a soft sigh, pulling it from his pocket and inspecting the text displayed.
“We better get a move on. Apparently, I owe Jake a darts match and I fear that if I don’t show up soon my callsign might change from ‘Rooster’ to ‘Chicken’.” Bradley says with a laugh as you move out of his embrace, laughing as you imagine him being called ‘Chicken’ day in and day out at work.
“Let’s get you down to the Hard Deck then. Can’t have my boyfriend being seen as someone afraid of a darts match against Jake of all people.” You say, patting Bradley’s chest before moving past him to get yourself ready to head to the bar.
When you are ready, you head out of the house with Bradley and get into the passenger seat of his Bronco, smiling as Bradley instinctively rests his free hand on your thigh as he drives, singing along to the radio under his breath as he goes. Eventually, he parks outside the Hard Deck and the two of you get out and head into the bar together.
“Want me to grab you a drink? I’ll be designated driver if you want?” You say, turning to face Bradley almost the moment the two of you entered the bar.
“Are you sure?” Bradley asks, soft enough for the moment to be just between the two of you but loud enough to be heard over the noise of the bar.
“I’m sure. As long as you’re okay with me driving the Bronco of course.” You say with a small smile as Bradley rests a hand on your waist, the other digging in his pocket and holding the Bronco keys between the two of you.
“There’s no one else I’d trust to drive her.” He says, grinning as you take the keys before leaning forward and pressing his lips to yours.
“Bradshaw! Get your ass over here!” You pull away with a giggle at Jake’s voice ringing clearly over the noise of the busy bar and Bradley rolls his eyes.
“He really knows how to pick a time, huh?” Bradley mutters, winding an arm around your waist and guiding you over to the Dagger's usual spot near the pool tables and dart board.
“Hey, you brought y/n!” Jake greets you enthusiastically as the two of you approach, instantly approaching you, arms outstretched for a hug that you’re more than happy to give him, pulling away and greeting the other Daggers with hugs before returning to Bradley’s side.
“Okay, I’m going to grab you a drink now. Beer?” You say to Bradley as he nods.
“That would be great, thank you.” Bradley says gratefully, kissing the top of your head before letting you cross the bar to talk to Penny.
“y/n! How lovely to see you.” Penny greets you happily, smiling as she leans up against the bar to talk to you.
“It’s good to see you too, Penny.” You say, smiling at Penny.
“Beers for you and Bradley?” Penny asks, instinctively reaching down to the fridge that contains the beers you and Bradley like to drink.
“Just one for Bradley. I’ll take a soda.” You say, pulling out your card and handing it to Penny to start a tab just in case you and Bradley wanted more drinks throughout the evening. Penny soon hands you your two drinks and you thank her with a smile before turning and heading back over to Bradley who was standing with Jake near the dart board.
“Here you go.” You say, holding Bradley’s beer out towards him as he takes it gratefully, pressing a soft kiss upon your lips in thanks.
“Get a room you two.” Jake grumbles, plucking the darts from the board and handing some of them to Bradley.
“Just you wait until you get a girlfriend. Then me and Bradley will be saying it to you.” You say with a laugh as Jake rolls his eyes. You then make your way over to Natasha and Bob, sitting with them and making conversation with them as Bradley and Jake play their darts match.
An hour or so later, after Jake and Bradley are finally done with their final match, you get up, excuse yourself to the bathroom and leave the group to their own devices for a few minutes. However, when you return, you can’t say you were impressed with the scene before you.
When you leave the bathroom, shaking the remnants of water off your hands, you see a woman almost draping herself over Bradley who doesn’t look entirely comfortable with her proximity. You could tell he was saying something to her, but you didn’t know what it was. You soon crossed the bar and sidled up alongside Bradley, wrapping your arms around his middle and pressing a soft kiss to his cheek.
“Hey babe. Who’s your friend?” You ask innocently, turning to look at the woman who had at least had the decency to take a step back.
“I’m Mia.” She says, barely giving Bradley a chance to respond, making you fight the urge to roll your eyes.
“Well, nice to meet you, Mia. If you don’t mind, I’d like to spend some time with my boyfriend. It's our first time seeing each other in months. You can understand that, right?” The lie comes quickly and easily to you. You weren’t the biggest fan of sounding possessive over Bradley but after seeing how uncomfortable he had looked you didn’t want this person ever coming near him again. With a huff, Mia rolled her eyes and stalked off. The moment she was out of sight you turned to Bradley.
“I didn’t mean to speak for you. I could tell you weren’t comfortable.” You apologise quickly, stopping only when Bradley kisses you, words catching in your throat.
“Don’t apologise.” Bradley whispers after pulling away enough to speak, lips brushing against yours with every word spoken. You nod your head slightly at his words before pulling away, determined to spend the rest of the evening with your friends and forget about the incident that had happened as you hoped it was a one-time event.
Oh how wrong you were.
Bradley had gone to the Hard Deck a couple of times while you stayed home or had work and each time had come back complaining that Mia had been there and had been completely disregarding his obvious boundaries and ignoring that he had a girlfriend, having been convinced it was a ploy to keep her away, he had told you. Bradley had told you that all of the Daggers had tried to help him keep her away, but she was a lot more persistent than they expected. All you did at the moment was hug Bradley tight, feeling awful that he was going through that without you to help him before you spoke up.
“Next time you go to the Hard Deck, I’m coming with you.”
True to your word, the next time Bradley and the Daggers organised a time to go to the Hard Deck, you made sure you were free to accompany Bradley. The two of you arrived at the Hard Deck, walking in hand in hand as your eyes immediately scoured the bar looking for Mia, letting out a small, satisfied sigh when you couldn’t see her. Maybe she’d gotten the hint after all, so you allowed yourself to relax as you crossed to the Daggers, greeting them all with a smile.
The evening progressed pleasantly, everyone laughing, playing pool, or gossiping about the new Top Gun recruits. Then the all-familiar bell rang signalling that someone would be paying for a round for everyone in the bar.
“I’m going to grab us all a drink.” You say, instantly excusing yourself to grab a drink for yourself and all your friends.
When you returned to the group, Mia was there. She had apparently escaped your skimmed searches of the bar and snuck in the moment you moved away from Bradley. You approached the table Mickey and Javy were sitting at and placed the tray down, immediately turning around and approaching her.
“Excuse me, I was very polite the first time that we met but I don’t appreciate that you keep trying to force yourself on my boyfriend and make him uncomfortable. Please leave him alone.” You say, firmness sneaking into your voice as you position yourself next to Bradley, noticing how all the Daggers immediately have their attention on you, ready to step in if needed.
“You’re clearly lying to yourself if you think that he could ever be your boyfriend. He’s way out of your league and much better suited to be dating someone like me. Besides it’s not like he was saying no.” Mia says with a snarky tone as she folds her arms across her chest, raising an eyebrow as she looks you up and down.
“He wasn’t saying anything! Isn’t that enough of a hint for you?!” You cry out, growing more enraged when Mia just shrugs.
“I can tell when men like what I’m doing. Besides, men never say no. I know it can be hard to accept but sometimes men prefer people like me over people like you.” Mia’s chosen words enraged you so much that you did something you never thought you’d be capable of doing.
You punched her.
You would’ve regretted it had Mia not attacked you back. She practically pushed you to the floor and you were quick to drag her down with you, pinning her to the floor and just giving her hell. You couldn’t even recall what you were doing, you were just so blinded by your rage and this woman’s audacity. You kept throwing punches and slaps, as did Mia, a fair few coming into contact with you until you felt two muscular arms wrap around your middle and drag you off Mia and the moment you were clear, you were vaguely aware of Jake and Reuben stepping in between you and Mia as a barrier.
“y/n, honey, you need to calm down.” Bradley’s soothing, gentle voice whispers in your ear as he hauls you away from the chaos and holds you carefully in place, his eyes shining with worry as Natasha appears alongside him while Bob rushes to fill Penny in on what happened. Bradley guides you to the bar, sitting you on one of the stools while Natasha follows Penny to get you an ice pack. The second Natasha returns, Bradley takes the ice pack and holds it near your eye where he could tell a bruise was already beginning to form. You could hear Penny calling for Mia to be escorted out and given a ban from the Hard Deck and all you could think about was how grateful you were that she wouldn’t be around to bother Bradley anymore.
“I appreciate you defending me, y/n but you didn’t need to do this. You’re hurt.” Bradley mutters, eyes scanning you for any more injuries while he holds the ice pack in place.
“I couldn’t let her treat you like that. I just snapped.” You admit, looking up and making eye contact with the man you love.
“It happens to the best of us. I bet Mav’s done something like that before, it’ll be where you got that from.” Bradley says, smiling lightly as he changes the subject to bring a smile to your face which he was successful in doing.
“There’s no way dad hasn’t punched someone in the defence of someone he loves.” You giggle, wincing lightly when Bradley applies a little bit more pressure accidentally to the tender area, which of course makes him apologise instantly.
“I have to admit. It was really attractive seeing you defend me like that.” Bradley muses, moving the ice pack away from your eye and setting it on the countertop.
“Really?” You ask, feeling your face heat up at his words.
“Really. No one’s ever defended me like that before. It just means a lot more because it’s you.” Bradley says softly, cupping your face softly and leaning in until his lips meet yours, the kiss alone conveying everything Bradley needed to say. You both pull away when you hear the Daggers calling for both you and Bradley and you laugh as you glance from them to Bradley who lets out a soft chuckle and shakes his head.
“I think we should head over so you can talk to your fans, huh?”

Bradley Bradshaw had known the Mitchells since he was still wobbling when he walked. Pete was practically a father figure after Goose passed away. His daughter was like a sister to him, which led to him taking comfort within her. Bradley was known for being her sidekick in elementary school, middle school, and highschool.
In elementary school, it was all fun and games. Bradley and you had a willow tree together that Bradley would hang from the branches while you did your homework. That was always the difference between him and you. The sporty, athleticism in Bradley while you chose the approach to reading and staying quiet.
Bradley brought out a different side in you. He made your head fuzzy and the butterflies fluttered in your stomach. He was your first crush when you were seven-years old. On the playground, he punched the hell out of Lucas Dillinger after he pushed you off of the swing set.
Then, in middle school, filled with hormones and acne you still had a major crush on Bradley Bradshaw, the lead player of the San Diego Middle School baseball team. Most girls in your middle school had a crush on him, and it ended up in him distancing himself from you. It made sense in your head. Bradley was popular and you were on the opposite spectrum of popularity. The longing stares across tables didn't make sense however, as Bradley pushes the wet broccoli on his plate while staring at you.
Highschool is where it started. When Bradley leaped up enough courage to ask you to the Homecoming dance with a poster board and your favorite flowers. The dumb smile he had on his face pulled you away from the embarrassment you had in the math hallway that day.
He picked you up in his suit and tie, and went silent whenever you walked down the stairs. His hair was pushed back slightly and he walked over to you, handing you the bouquet to you and hugging you tightly. “You look... amazing.”
Bradley Bradshaw was in love with Maverick’s daughter. That's what he knows when he sees you in his bomber jacket, a helmet, and some pretty boots as you rev up Mav’s motorcycle. You were both 18; dumb and in love as you start driving down the flight ramp on your dad's bike.
Bradley didn't have the heart to tell you he was leaving the next week.
That night you and him laid on the cold concrete and stared at the open sky. The light pollution was almost barely there, exposing all of the constellations and stars that twinkled. Bradley knew you as the quiet girl who read Junie B. Jones while everyone else played free tag. Now, you were the girl who was out of braces with pretty teeth and pretty everything.
He says your name quietly. You turn your head and see those soft hazel eyes looking into yours, as he swallows the anxious feeling in his throat. “Can I ask you something?” You nod towards him and he shakes his head and says,
“Can I kiss you?”
Those dumb feelings you had arise fuller in your head. A hand on his chest, a turn of your hips, and you connect your lips with his. The soft feeling of him apologizes for anything he had ever done to you in the distant past.
“Yes. Anytime you can kiss me.” You laugh and Bradley runs his hand across your cheek and smooths his thumb against it.
“Don’t give me that look.”
“What look? It's the only one I got?”
“Mommy! Momma! Did Daddy really ask you out with a poster?!” Your girls blabber questions and you quiet them down with a laugh.
“Sh. Shh.. you can ask Daddy about that tomorrow. Get to bed girls.” You tell them when you walk out and then the light off. Bradley stands in the hallway with a smile.
“That story always gets you baby.” Bradley says before you pull him into a deep kiss with a tug of his collar. “Shut up.”

☕️ bradley ‘rooster’ bradshaw and "you know we need to talk." "about?" "i don't know...last night, maybe?"
bradley "rooster" bradshaw x mitchell!reader, mentions of vomiting, mentions of pregnancy, 1.9k
You shouldn’t have been here at Rooster’s place at this time of night. You should’ve been asleep, in bed, but instead you were here, knocking on his door in the middle of the night, all because you’d just discovered something not even two hours ago that would change the trajectory of not only your life, but probably Rooster’s too.
It took a while, but he finally pulled open the door after your incessant knocking, rubbing his eye furiously as he peered out at who the hell was knocking on his door at three in the morning.
His hair was a riot, brown curls sticking out every which way, eyes bleary. He’d been asleep—of course he was. Anyone in their right mind would be. Except you weren’t really in your right mind right now. You were damn near close to losing it, trying your hardest not to spiral.
“Y/N? What are you—why are you awake? What’re you doing here?” He yawned, scratching his chest groggily. When you didn’t answer, just stared at him like something was wrong, he gave his head a quick shake to wake himself up a bit. “Are you okay? What—come in, come inside, please.”
You obliged, stepping past him and over the threshold into his apartment wordlessly.
“Can I make you some coffee—no, coffee would probably be bad right now. Tea? Water?” He offered, gesturing you towards the kitchen. You settled at one of the barstools in front of the counter, leaning on your elbows, folding your hands. “Not really sure what this situation calls for. Seriously, are you okay? You look…not okay.”
“I’m pregnant.” You blurted. Well, there went easing into the conversation. Bradley’s eyebrows flew sky high. But wait, there was more! “And I’m pretty sure you’re the father.”
He blinked at you owlishly, utterly and completely dumbfounded. “Pretty sure? How sure is pretty sure?”
“Entirely sure, actually. You’re the only guy I’ve been with in a really long time, so either it was a ghost, or it was you.”
That was something you’d been wracking your brain for since the second you saw the three lines on the test. One night, four or five weeks ago, after some sort of celebration at the Hard Deck that you couldn’t even remember now.
You remembered leaving the bar with Rooster, taking him home with you, kissing him a lot. It was entirely consensual, that much you could recall. But anything after that up until when you’d first started to feel icky was a blank.
You honestly didn’t even consider the possibility that you were in fact pregnant until your friend suggested it yesterday. Which is why you took the test. Never did you once think it would turn out positive.
It wasn’t that you didn’t think Rooster would be a good father. In fact, out of everyone you’d hooked up with over the years, he was probably the best option. Not that you really had any option, at this point. It was simple, plain as day. You were pregnant, and Rooster was the father.
Rooster made a face. “Okay, gross. But you took a test? And it was positive?”
“No, it came to me in a dream.” You snapped, glaring at him. “Yes, I took a test! I took three—all positive!”
“Alright! Okay, that’s—wow, okay. That’s definitely…something to take in.”
“I don’t know what to do.” You said quietly, staring hard at the marble countertop.
“Look, it’s late, we’re both tired. We don’t have to do anything right now, we don’t need to make any decisions right now. We have time.” He replied, shaking his head. We. He kept saying we, like he was planning on sticking around. You weren’t sure how to feel about it. “Why don’t you stay the night here and we can talk about this more in the morning?”
You shook your head quickly. “No, I can’t, I have to be home to set up for the party—oh my god, the party! My dad.”
“Your dad? What—Y/N, I’m pretty sure he’ll understand. Mav’s more modern than you give him credit for.”
“Understand? Understand what?” You asked incredulously. Then you got what he was trying to say, and you let out a humorless laugh. “Rooster, we’re not telling him. We can’t tell him!”
Your dad’s birthday party was tomorrow, and there were so many things you had to set up and do, this was probably the worst time for you to deal with everything going on right now. It wasn’t every day Pete “Maverick” Mitchell turned sixty. You needed everything to be perfect, and this brand new unexpected news was definitely not that.
Rooster could tell you were starting to panic a little from the weight of everything, so he just went along with what you said, reaching over the counter to cover your hand with his. “Everything is gonna be fine, okay? Just get some rest. Please. Tomorrow’s gonna be a busy day, and you need to sleep.”
You nodded distractedly, barely registering him guiding you towards the guest bedroom and settling you into bed. And maybe you were more tired than you thought, because your eyes fell shut on their own accord, and you were out like a light before Rooster even had the chance to close the door behind him.
-------
The party was going great so far. There was food, music, all your dad’s Navy buddies. Everything was running smoothly, and you definitely weren’t thinking about your conversation with Rooster last night, or the fact that you left his house before the sun even rose to avoid talking about the situation even more.
That was a lie. You couldn’t stop thinking of it, even as you smiled at every one of your dad’s friends jostling him about how old he’d gotten to be completely unaware of the surprise party his daughter planned for him.
With every conversation about what you’d been up to in life lately, you thought about Rooster. The look on his face when you broke the news to him. The way he must’ve felt when he woke up and you were gone. He was probably mad at you, and you honestly couldn’t blame him.
Like he knew it was him on your mind, Rooster materialized next to you, busying himself with browsing the drinks in the cooler to make it look like everything was normal. “Y/N.”
“Enjoying the party?” You asked casually, crossing your arms over your chest. Rooster scoffed softly.
“You know we need to talk.”
Your smile wavered for a split second before returning in full force. You glanced over at him briefly, flicking from his very serious face then back to the party. “About?”
“I don’t know…last night, maybe? You left before I woke up.”
“I have no idea what you’re talking about.”
“Bullshit.”
“Nothing happened last night, Rooster.”
“So you’re telling me you’re not pregnant right now.”
“Keep your voice down.” You hissed. Rooster shot a pointed look at you and you caved, grabbing him by the arm and yanking him towards a more secluded area of the backyard. “You wanna talk? Fine. Talk.”
“You said the baby was mine. That’s not just something I can forget, Y/N.”
“And I’m not asking you to forget, I’m asking you to leave it alone for now. It’s my dad’s birthday, Bradshaw. Can’t we just let him have the day before we blow up his entire world?”
“Okay. Yeah, that’s fine. Dropping it for now.” Rooster conceded, holding his hands up in surrender. In reality, all he wanted to do was figure things out, but he could admit that this wasn’t quite the best place nor time to do it. “What can I do to help you right now?”
“I think I’m gonna be sick.”
“Whoa, hey, I’m sorry, okay? I didn’t mean to stress you out any more, I just—”
“No, Rooster, I’m—” You felt the bile rising in your throat alarmingly quick, and before you could even your sentence, you scrambled for the nearest bush to throw up.
“Oh shit!” Rooster lunged forward, gathering your hair out of your face back towards the nape of your neck as you let it all out. You felt the warmth of his hand on your back, rubbing smooth circles along your spine.
“Fuck.” You groaned, bracing your hands on your knees. “Please tell me no one saw that.”
“Uh…” Rooster’s voice was hesitant and you turned your head, only to be met with the one person you didn’t want seeing you like this. Just your luck that even up there in age, that Navy instilled situational awareness never faded.
“Honey? You alright?” Your dad looked beyond worried, and before you knew it, you were sat down on the living room couch with your father fussing over you, fluffing your pillows, covering you with a blanket, the works. Rooster was hovering over in the corner.
“Dad, I’m fine! I probably had some bad oysters or something at girls’ night yesterday.” You sighed, ducking away from his attempt at feeling your forehead. As much as you didn’t enjoy lying straight to his face, telling him it was most likely a pregnancy symptom was definitely out of the question. “Go back, enjoy your party, please.”
“I should really stay, what if—”
“I’m in good hands, Dad. Rooster’s got me covered.”
“I’ll take the best care of her, Mav, don’t you worry.”
“No doubt in my mind you will.” He clapped Rooster on the shoulder, giving him a sharp nod. He turned to you. “Drink something. Eat something. I’ll check back in later. Love you, sweetheart.”
“Love you too, Dad.”
After waving everybody back to the festivities with assurances that you just needed to lay down for a bit and would be just fine, Rooster reappeared in the doorway a little while later, this time bearing gifts.
“Crackers and ginger ale. Eat them, they’ll help.” He insisted, letting you take the plastic cup from him. “Stole them from the cooler and snack table. Who knew an old man’s birthday party would have just what I was looking for?”
You managed a meager smile, but when you took a tiny sip of the soda, you found that it actually did help a bit. “How’d you know what I needed?”
Rooster rubbed the back of his neck, pressing his lips together with a haphazard shrug. “My mom. When she got sick, they always seemed to help with the nausea. Made sure we were always stocked and ready for whenever she needed it.”
“I wanna keep the baby, Rooster.” You blurted. Rooster nearly choked on his own saliva in surprise.
“You—you do?”
“And I want you to be there every step of the way.” You continued, fidgeting with the stray thread at the edge of your blanket. He took a seat next to you on the couch, rubbing his hands over his legs nervously. “Only if that’s what you want, though. I’m not trying to force your hand or baby trap or anything like that. It’s your choice, completely. But…I’d like it if our kid knew their father. In whatever capacity you’re comfortable with.”
“So, like co-parents? Or…more?” Rooster said slowly, gauging your reaction with wide, almost nervous eyes.
“I’m open to more.” You replied. Maybe you were reading too much into it, but he seemed to look very pleased with that. “I don’t know what this is gonna be like, for either of us, but I like to think we’ll get through it all. Together.”
He nodded, sliding his hand into yours and squeezing. “Together.”  What that together entailed, you weren’t all too sure. And although you were nervous as hell about what laid ahead, you were looking forward to finding out.

Bradley "Rooster" Bradshaw Imagine: I'm Off to Save the Queen
Tumblr media
A/n: this imagine is inspired by this tik tok, enjoy!
Warnings: mitchell!reader, age gap, deployment, I think that's it
〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️
“Baby,” I hear from somewhere in my room as I begin to slowly emerge from slumber.
“Mmm,” I mumble, wanting Bradley to know I am semi-awake, but not fully awake.
“Hey, you said you wanted to get up by now,” he tells me, sitting down on the edge of our bed. I reach out my hand, allowing him to take it and gently rub circles into the top of it..
“I lied,” I say, snuggling further into the blankets.
“Honey, you have to take me to base in a few hours for deployment. Don’t you want to get up so we can have brunch one more time before I leave?” he asks me, and I sigh heavily before sitting up.
“Okay, I’m up,” I say, and lean over and give Bradley a gentle kiss, before turning and swinging my legs over the edge of the bed and standing. “Wanna take one last shower together?” I ask, holding my hand out for him to take.
〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️
“Okay. We have the stuff for french toast, pancakes, or waffles. Bacon is an obvious must. Do you want eggs?” Bradley asks me as he stands in front of the fridge, starting to grab items.
“I want french toast please. No eggs, but yes bacon. Obviously. Can you hand me the strawberries? I can cut some up for our toast.” He laughs and hands me the case of strawberries, and I cross over to the sink to wash them off. We work in tandem and silence for a few minutes, occasionally laughing when I cut a strawberry and pop a piece in my mouth, or in his mouth.
“I’m going to miss this,” I say, stopping cutting in order to turn and look at bradley.
“Me too honey,” he says, also pausing what he was doing to look at me. “But if you really think about it, this is one of the shorter deployments I’ve been on. Only five weeks and I’ll be back.”
“I know, but that's still five weeks where  I’ll be going to sleep and waking up alone. Plus, when I’m working with my mom I won’t be able to look forward to you coming to the bar,” I respond, stepping to him and wrapping my arms around his waist.
“I know,” he starts, and kisses me on the forehead before pulling away to get back to cooking breakfast. “But I’ll call you anytime I get phone time. And who knows, the mission could get moved up and it could only be three or four weeks. Plus, if you get really lonely you could go stay with your parents and sister.”
I pick up the knife and start cutting strawberries again and then after a moment of silence I laugh and say, “or I could go kidnap my sister and make her stay here.”
“Or you could do that,” he replies and we both chuckle.  We work together in silence, and after I finish cutting strawberries I grab whipping cream out of the fridge and head over to our mixer and start the process of making whipped cream. I hear him grab plates out of the cabinet and set them at our seats on the other side of the island as I watch the mixer. I turn for a second and watch him as he grabs serving spoons and a fork for the strawberries, whipped cream, and french toast, before turning back to watch the whipped cream. After a minute or two, I feel Bradley come stand behind me and wrap his arms around my waist, resting his chin on the top of my head after kissing the top of my head. “Can I have a taste of that?” he asks just as I stop the mixer, and I laugh.
“In two seconds it will be on top of your french toast,” I say, turning in his arms to look at him.
“Yeah but I want to sample it first,” he says, and I chuckle under my breath. I turn slightly and stick my finger into the whipped cream, and then turn back to him and hold my finger out. He stares into my eyes as he grabs my wrist and brings it up to his mouth, taking my finger into his mouth and sucking the whipped cream off. He pulls my finger out of his mouth with a small pop, and then leans down and kisses me intensely.
“Brads,” I say when we pull apart, both breathing heavily. “We need to eat our breakfast. It’s going to get cold.”
“I would say I don’t care, but it’s our last meal together, we should eat,” he replies, before pulling me in for another kiss, lifting me, and from what I hear the bowl with whipped cream in it, and carrying me over to the other side of the island, setting me down in a seat.
“Strong,” I say with a laugh when he pulls away, and he just smiles down at me.
“You know it baby.” He turns and opens a drawer, grabbing a spoon and some silverware for us, before coming over and sitting next to me. He stabs a piece of french toast and places it on my plate, before adding another one, and then putting 3 on his plate.
“Hey Roo,” I say after a few minutes of chewing and small talk.
“Yeah sweetheart?” he says around a mouthful of food, looking up at me from his plate. I laugh when I notice the whipped cream on the side of his mouth, and stretch my hand out to wipe it off. When I’m done I lean forward and give him a kiss, and then pull back to ask him my question.
“Can we make a tik-tok today? I saw this one the other day that was sad, but I loved it, and I want to recreate it with you.”
“It’s sad?” he asks, looking at me with a questioning look.
“Yeah, but it’s fitting for our situation. Here, I’ll show you,” I tell him, and cross over to him, sitting on his lap and pulling the app up on my phone. I watch the video once, and then show it to him, and watch his face as it morphs from laughter, from knowing the sound is from Bluey, which is the show I turn on when I have anxiety, to sadness as it starts over again and he really begins to realize what I’m asking of him.
“Baby, you do know that this is going to make you even more sad than you currently are, correct?” he asks as the video ends.
“Yes, but then I’ll be able to watch it while you’re gone, along with the other videos we have made together at this point. And my students love Bluey, so I can show it to them and they will enjoy it, not realizing that it is sad, and their joy might make me feel better.”
“Okay. We can make it after we finish breakfast and I get dressed in my khaki,” he responds, and then we sit there and eat our breakfast making small talk throughout.
〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️
“Okay, my phone is set up and ready,” I say as I wipe tears off my cheeks after we listened to it a few times and practiced. “Do you remember your lines?”
“Yeah honey. Are you sure you want to do this?” he asks me one more time, reaching over and wiping another tear off my cheek.
“Yes. I do. Let’s do it before we have to leave,” I say, and reach out in front of me to start the timer. As soon as the countdown finished Bradley starts mouthing his first line.
“I’m off to guard the queen. That’s my job.”
“Ooh, I’ll come too,” I mouth my first line as another tear falls down my face.
“No, you can’t guard the queen,” he mouths, and I see the first tear fall down his face.
“Why not?”
“You’re not good at it.”
“I am. Really, I am,” I say out loud, my voice cracking as I say it.
“No, you better stay home,” he says this part out loud, following my lead, and I lay my head on his shoulder before mouthing my next line.
“But I’m a guard, just like you.”
“Yes, but you’re not a proper guard like me,” he mouths, quieting again.
“Oh, okay then,” I whisper, before turning burying my head in his neck. The sound stops shortly after, meaning the video ended, and we both sit there silently with our arms wrapped around each other and my face buried in his neck, both of us with silent tears streaming down our faces.
“How come it never gets easier?” I say after a few minutes of us sitting in silence.
“I remember one time when I was young my mom and I were at your mom’s house one time when your dad was deployed. She had just found out she was pregnant with you, and she was crying because he had to leave again. I remember my mom told her this. She said ‘Pen, it doesn't get any easier because you fall for him a little more with every passing day.’ And I believe that goes with us as well. We spend every night together, and we learn new things about each other everyday. Even if it’s small things. It never gets easier because the closer we get the deeper we love,” he says, and then presses a kiss to my forehead. “It’s just five weeks,” he says after a moment.
“That’s true. Last year you were gone for like 6 months at one time. That was awful. Spent a lot of time with my parents. And Nat,” I say with a small laugh, finally unburrowing myself from him. “I guess we probably need to go soon.”
“Yeah, probably. Were you going to post that before we left?” he asks, nodding to where my phone sits because we haven’t moved it since we stopped filming.
“No, not today. Maybe tomorrow. I want to keep it just for myself, at least until you’re actually gone. I feel like if I posted it now my phone would be blowing up the entire rest of the time we had today, because everyone is a sucker for a good military story,” I say with a small chuckle, before grabbing my phone and standing up. “One last smoothie run and stop at Hard Deck?”
〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️
“Okay guys. You are the last class I haven’t played this for yet,” I say a week later to the last class that I had yet to show the video of Bradley and I. “You guys love Bluey right?” I ask, and a chorus of yes’s and cheers erupt. “And you remember my fiance Lieutenant Bradshaw, right?”
“Yeah, he came on career day,” one of my students says, and I laugh.
“That’s right he did. Well he had to go away for a little bit but before he left we made this video together. Do you guys want to see it?” I ask, and they all cheer. I get them to quiet down and then I press play.
“I love you,” I whisper as the video comes to an end.

Kinda tempted to write something again. I use to write for the marvel fandom but I deleted my account… now I’m in the tgm fam and I’m feeling inspired.
Here’s a little blurb of fic I started tonight. Lmk if this is something y’all’d be interested in.
“Maverick never considered himself to be a great ‘girl dad’ or even good with reading women’s emotions in general. But he knew his daughter. He knew that you only cry in your bedroom, alone. You certainly don’t cry when you’re drunk, unless it’s happy tears. So hearing you now, sobbing uncontrollably, while Bradley profusely apologizes, he knew one thing for sure. Bradley Bradshaw has fucked up. Big time.”

MATILDA
soundtrack: Matilda by Harry Styles ™️
bradley “rooster” bradshaw x fem!reader
tw: cursing, absent parents, kissing
Tumblr media
bradley was hanging out in his room with all of his groomsmen getting ready for his wedding that was happening in almost 2 hours when phoenix came barreling through the door looking very worried.
“rooster!” she frantically yelled out.
“phoenix, calm down and tell me what happened?” bradley asked in a calm voice to try to calm his fellow aviator down.
“it’s y/n! she is having a panic attack and nobody knows how to calm her down except you. we really need your help.” she said.
bradley wasted no time jumping out of his seat and bolting out the door and down the stairs to the bridesmaid’s room. when he got there, he didn’t waste any time getting through the door and spotting his bride-to-be. she was sobbing, shaking and having a hard time breathing steadily. as soon as he spotted her, he ran over to where she was seated and held her.
“hey darling. it’s okay. i’m here now.” he said in a relaxed voice. “try to match my breathing, can you do that for me, hon?”
y/n nodded her head and started to breath more steadily.
“that’s right. in, out, in, out. just like that.” he told the woman that was now breathing normally. “now, mind telling me what has got you all riled up before the big day?” he asked, poking her stomach, making her laugh.
“i feel really bad that i didn’t invite my family. even though they weren’t there for me back then, doesn’t mean that they wouldn’t want to be here now.” she said in between a sob.
“you can let it go, you can throw a party full of everyone you know and not invite your family ‘cause they never showed you love. you don’t have to be sorry for leaving and growing up.” bradley told y/n.
“i know. i know. i just feel like a real dick because i didn’t invite them.” y/n said with a frown.
“darling, you talk of the pain like it’s all alright, but i know that you feel like a piece of you is dead inside. you showed me a power that is strong enough to bring sun to the darkest days. it’s none of my business but it’s just been on my mind.” he said. she was now looking up at him and he wiped the tears away from her puffy cheeks.
“you can let it go, you can throw a party full of everyone you know and not invite your family ‘cause they never showed your love. you don’t have to be sorry for leaving and growing up. you can see the world, following the seasons anywhere you go, you don’t need a reason ‘cause they never showed you love and you don’t have to be sorry for doing on your own.” bradley told her.
“you know that i love you and we are getting married! you are the best part of all my days. and please, don’t forget that. i love you so much!” bradley told her then kissed her on the lips.
“thank you bradley. you always know how to make me feel better and i’m so blessed to have you here with me. i love you too.” y/n said to her fiancé, best friend, and groom-to-be.

Broken Skies (Bradley Bradshaw x Mitchell!Reader) Sneak Peek
Note: This is a redo of my Bradley Bradshaw Sneak Peek. This is more of a prequel rather than a sneak peek this time. Mel - “one who is fearless and daring.”
Warnings: Nothing big, maybe angst, other than a brief mention of death, possible military inaccuracies. Not grammar/spelling checked.
Masterlist | Sneak Peek | Chapter 1
Tumblr media
You and Bradley Bradshaw grew up together, rarely ever leaving each other’s side. Your dad is Pete Mitchell; your mom left not long after you were born thinking that she was not fit for this lifestyle. Pete raised you with the help of his best friends Nick and Carole Bradshaw. They have a son, Bradley, who is only two years older than you, but that didn’t change the fact that you two became best friends. Whenever Pete and Nick had to go on deployments you stayed with Carole and Bradley. Carole treated you as if you were her own; Bradley treated you like his little sister, holding your hand when going outside, comforting you when you miss Pete, playing any game you want, you name it. Pete and Nick made a bet that when you and Bradley grew up, you will end up together.
Everything was going great until tragedy struck the Bradshaw family. Bradley lost his dad, now it was your turn to comfort him. You were not old enough to understand everything, but you knew when Bradley was sad. From this, you and Bradley became even closer. Pete did everything he could to be there for Carole and Bradley, at the same time raising you. The other’s from the Top Gun class did what they could to chip in.
Things started getting better. Before you know it, you joined Bradley in high school. He was still your best friend. He didn’t care that his best friend was a freshman when he was a junior. He was your ride to and from school, he walked you to class whenever he was able to, even waited for you after class. He would scare off anyone that made you uncomfortable. He even asked you to every school dance. Carole thought it was the cutest thing in the world and had collections of photos and home videos, while Pete always joked about whether or not it was time to attempt scaring Bradley, with the “treat my daughter right or else” talk, but deep down he knew Bradley would never hurt you. You started developing a crush on Bradley, but not wanting to ruin the friendship, you kept it to yourself. Little did you know, Carole saw through it right away. The way you look at Bradley is the same way she look at Nick, it was love.
That’s when things took a turn for the worse. Bradley lost his mother; you lost your only mother figure, Pete lost another person that means so much to him. You were there for Bradley throughout everything; Pete had Bradley move in to live with you and him, promising Carole and Nick to take care of Bradley no matter what.
Before you know it, Bradley started applying for the Naval Academy. This scared Pete. You were sad and scared, but at the same time happy for him. You understood he wanted to be like his dad, follow in his footsteps, to be a naval aviator. You wanted to be just like your dad too. You both made a promise to join the naval academy and make it to Top Gun, and that he will wait for you. Remembering his promise to Carole and not wanting to lose anyone else close to him, he made the bold decision of pulling Bradley’s paper, ignoring countless advice from his wingman, Tom Kazansky. Bradley was so angry when he found out, some of that anger going onto you.
“Why did you let him pull my papers?! You are trying to get me out of the picture so you can get ahead, aren't you?!” Bradley shouted at you. You were confused and hurt at the same time. You didn’t know what your dad had done. You were hurt that Bradley would think that low of you. Before you can get a word in, Bradley had stormed out of the house. That night, as you laid in your room still upset about what happened earlier in the day, you heard your dad and Bradley arguing back and forth. You heard the door slam, not knowing that was the last time you saw Bradley.
Months went by, you continued to try to get in contact with Bradley but nothing ever went through. But life went on, it was now your turn to submit an application to the Naval Academy. This scared Pete even more, he already lost so many people, he didn’t want to lose you too, his only daughter. He wanted to pull your papers too, but this time Iceman stopped him from making another mistake. He wasn’t going to let his wingman lose another kid. “She’s ready, Mav. You have to let go. We’ve taught her everything she needs to know.” Reluctantly, he listened to his wingman this time.
Time flies. Before you know it, you were graduating from the naval academy, then you were going onto flight school. Pete and Tom couldn’t be more proud. Turns out you fly just like your dad and Tom, fearless, a bit reckless, makes no mistakes, but also has a hint of cautiousness, earning the callsign Mel.
 They tried to keep tabs on Bradley as much as possible. Of course they were proud of him too, and they know his parents would’ve thought the same. Soon, you found out that you would be attending Top Gun. You finally made it. He never did contact you, but your dad kept you up to date. Turns out he will be in the same class as you. Maybe you’ll be able to rekindle your friendship with Bradley.

I’m Already Gone | Top Gun Maverick Fanfic 📄
Tumblr media
Pairing: Bradley Bradshaw & Jennifer Mitchell
Tumblr media
Summary: It happened in a blink, it happened in a flash, as that night ran cold and old as she had ever seen. What happened that night the papers were pulled? Heartbreak.
Timeline: Post Top Gun—Pre Top Gun Maverick
Characters mentioned: Pete Maverick Mitchell, Tom Kazansky, Carole Bradshaw, Dane Bradshaw, Austin Mitchell and etc
Song inspired fic: Already Gone by Sleeping At Last
——
It wasn’t supposed to end like this.
In tears.
Sore throats from all the screaming and crying at 3 in the morning.
But it did.
Here’s what happened…
…it was a cold decision based night at The North Island. Pete was out pulling an all nighter, Austin was at Dane’s house doing god knows what and Jennifer was alone. At home, getting calls every few hours from her father to see how she was doing.
To be honest, she was doing fine. It was a rare occasion for the house to be quiet that late at night, usually there was some kind of noise being heard across the halls. Either from the boys or one of her friends.
But tonight, it was pure silence. You can hear the windows cracking from the drips of water outside, the sound of the wooden floor creek every once in a while, and the rumbling of car engines driving past the streets right outside her door. In the living room, she can hear it all too well.
It felt like a odd film she was placed in but she didn’t expect to be thrown in.
Her one thoughts were about Bradley. She knew he was sorta stressing the past few days about getting into the academy and proceeded in his dreams of becoming a pilot. She knew from stories that he always wanted to fly, just like his father Goose and unofficial uncle Maverick.
But Jennifer also knew the concept of events and consequences coming into that role. Deployment across the country, flying into dangerous territory, long distance trips from home and safe housing wasn’t always the best for pilots. Usually in secure parking areas but still.
A part of her wasn’t sure if she was ready to give that up yet, not having Bradley around everyday.
She didn’t know if she wanted that for herself either. She loved the idea of being in the air, cool tricks and taking a knowledgeable look at the world from the cockpit of your plane, it was a rush you can only imagine. But she loved being on the groundwork for things too, surrounded by family and friends. Teammates.
Jenny decided that whatever happens with that paperwork, she will be happy for him. It will hurt to see him leave her to go fly out into the world but she loves him either way…
Jennifer cleared her thoughts turning down the lights on the first floor and headed upstairs to her bedroom, free falling onto the mattress as she climbed underneath the covers, deciding to get some rest. It was late. Midnight. And she was still awake. So laying her eyelids shut for now, she curled up against the pillows and slowly nodded off.
~~~~
Remember all the things we wanted
Now all our memories, they're haunted
We were always meant to say goodbye
~~~~
The next moment happened in a flash, gently being awakened by the sound of footsteps on the first floor and small grunts. She couldn’t tell if that was her father’s footsteps or not, but just for precaution Jenny swiftly escaped the bed and grabbed the baseball bat from behind her door as she walked downstairs.
Even though she was groggy from sleep she held the baseball bat in her grip tightly, ready to swing at the figure she found in the kitchen sipping a glass of water. It confused her as she squeezed her eyes a couple of time, trying to wake herself up swinging a hit at the tall fellow who ducked.
It took Jenny a second to realize who it was, hearing a gulp a second later.
“Bradley?!” She asked, lowering her bat a bit.
“Yes? Who else do you think it is?” He exclaimed, sounding annoyed.
“S-sorry..w-what in heavens are you doing here it..it’s 2 in the morning.”
“Couldn’t sleep. Don’t worry I’ll be gone and out of your hair soon.”
“No? You came here for something..what was it?”
“I was looking for you and Maverick.”
“Why? What did i do?”
~~~~
Even with our fists held high
It never would have worked out right, yeah
We were never meant for do or die
~~~
Instead of saying a word, Bradley handed Jenny a slip of paper that seemed to be a bit wet and crumbled at the corners. It was at the same time, she noticed the look on his face. His hair was wetter than expected, patched of droplets over the shoulders of his shirt as his sweater lay on the chair next to the kitchen table and he was wearing sweatpants.
He had small bags under his eyes. His eyes were dropped onto her hands, as if he wanted to hold her.
To tell the truth, Bradley was craving from physical touch from her in the smallest way, shape or form. He has been a wreck all of a sudden after recycling that letter from the bin at home, that he grumped and threw away. He didn’t want to believe the words said on that paper, nor the fact that his suspicions were correct.
But a part of him told him they were.
He watched as Jenny read the letter, her expression changing every once in a millisecond from shock to sorrow all wrapped into one. He noticed her biting her bottom lip for a moment, as if she’s trying to take it all in with a scoff. A hint of a ever so tiny half smile was tugged at her lips, it was quickly changed but it was there.
He saw it.
Finally after a deep breath of silence waters, she looked up at him, her fingertips playing with the edges of the paper.
“I’m sorry Bradley..” She said in a soft whisper, as if she was gonna wake up a dog within the house, “..I know how much you wanted to fly..”
“I can’t do that now..” He replied with a soft haze voice, looking away for a second.
“You can always apply again, right? I mean, dad can pull a strings to have your application be seen early or maybe Ice do it?…”
“No. Don’t even mention Maverick.”
“Brad, honey, it’s not the end of the world. You will get other chances..i know you will.”
“Not with Maverick around.”
“W-what?”
~~~
I didn't want us to burn out
I didn't come here to hurt you now
I can't stop
~~~
He sighed and scoffed, “Jen, baby, don’t play dumb with me right now. You may be saying all of this but i don’t believe you. We both know how much you want me to stay here, we discuss it before!”
“That was a while ago! Yes it will take some time getting used to..b-but I wouldn’t stop you from flying!..wait you think i had something to do with this?” She asked, soften her gaze at the question.
“Did you? I mean it wouldn’t be the first time you pulled a stunt like that to protect me.”
“No. No, no, no! I-i would not do that. You can trust me on knowing that I wouldn’t go behind your back for that.”
“Jen..you are the closest person here to know if something that was up..d-did you have a feeling this would happen?”
“..I honestly don’t know. But you don’t get to come into my house in the middle of the night and accuse me for such a thing.”
“Did you know that Mav would do this?”
“I..no. H-he would’ve pulled my papers too..”
“I wouldn’t be surprised if he does or, he already did it and you just don’t know it yet! Maverick Mitchell has always been shown to be my biggest supporter but all of a sudden he pulls something like this? And the fact that i don’t know if i should believe you right now is what ticks me off.”
“Bradley wait..”
“I..you didn’t think i saw that little smile as you read the paper? Huh?!”
~~~
I want you to know
That it doesn't matter
Where we take this road
Someone's gotta go
~~~
Jen wouldn’t admit it but she did smile reading the whole thing, she didn’t want him to leave just yet especially at this young of an age. Tears slowly being welcomed into the corner of her eyes came despite on request.
But she wanted him to fly, enjoy his life even if she left to pick up the pieces at home.
“Okay, maybe i did smile, huh? Cause i don’t want to see you go or worse, have you slip away from my fingers the second you get the green light to do so?!” She yelled, as her temper started to reach up her back.
“I’m not going to leave you!” He replies back, with furrow eyebrows.
“You don’t know that! Austin’s planning on flying like dad, Dane wants to go into engineering planes and high tech jets! You’ve been ready to fly past the 7 seas since you were 8…i just thought maybe..maybe this was a sign that we will be alright..that i don’t have to say goodbye, yet..so yeah, blame me. Go ahead!”
“..blame you?”
“Mhm. Blame me..since you need someone to yell at..”
“Jen..i don’t..I don’t know what to think, okay? B-but I’m..The Navy is my dream, i always wanted to fly..but I can’t wrap my head around not knowing if I actually really got a chance to be there..and i want you there..with me.”
“Then why have you been so busy and in a hurry to get out?..but..not once have you mentioned about it was gonna be us there..just you. You alone, Brad.”
“It always occurred to me that you would be there..”
“It occurred to you that i would just be there with you?! W-what I didn’t want to?..i love you, Bradley, i do and I understand why you feel this way about everything but..there has to be something else right? Why are you in a hurry to get out?”
~~~
And I want you to know
You couldn't have loved me better
But I want you to move on
So I'm already gone
~~~
Bradley was silent at the question being repeated. He looked down, as his eyes finally watered. The sound of his sniffles could be heard as clear as day.
She can only guess the reason.
It’s been a less than a hectic year since his mother died. Carole Bradshaw death recked everyone. Leaving a painful scar in the family’s overall built, where it still felt a fresh opened wound.
She was like a mother to Jenny. Treating her with as much love, care and compassion than anyone can ever imagine. Hugs and kisses among all of the kids as her smile can light up the whole night sky.
And her laughter bringing souls together in a lifespan, just wanting to dance around the room. From her sass, to her wit and gossipy cheer.
“..my parents.” Bradley simply said, almost choking on the words.
“..Goose and Carole..that’s why you fight to hurry and fly..to chance that wish to be there..in the there with them.” She answered, looking away.
“Is it bad..? Is it so bad i want to touch the clouds like my dad did and come home to your waiting arms?”
“No..it’s not. It’s a dream but..I don’t know how long i can take waiting for you to come home..w-what if you don’t come home? A-a-an-and i get a knock on the door from a solider with—”
“Don’t. Don’t finish that sentence, Jennifer. It’s not gonna happen! I will come home, but that doesn’t mean I don’t want to take the risk to see the world and be a pilot. You know that right?”
She walked away from the kitchen and into the living room as she sighed, “Here we go again..”
“What?” He asked, followed behind her.
“Again with the whole pilot talk! I get that, you want to be like your father but there is more to life than just flying Bradley!”
~~~
Looking at you makes it harder
But I know that you'll find another
That doesn't always make you wanna cry
Started with a perfect kiss
Then we could feel the poison set in
Perfect couldn't keep this love alive
~~~
Tumblr media Tumblr media
~~~
You know that I love you so
I love you enough to let you go
~~~
He raised an eyebrow and scoffed loudly, “You’re serious? If it was anyone else, i would say you’re possibly right but you’re father is Pete ‘Maverick’ Mitchell. If anything you know better than anyone how important that is!”
“And what if it isn’t?!” She spin around and yelled back, with a glare having enough.
“You’re hilarious.”
“I’m being serious!”
“You don’t get it, do you?”
“No, you don’t get it. I understand you very well and i love you for everything you stand for..but what if it’s short lived? I can’t watch you die, Bradley..I understand you’re mad at my father, you’re more than hurt and you might not trust what I’m saying right now but a part of me knows I’m sure..”
“..w-what are you saying? That your right here and I’m wrong? Cause i do get it! And I’m more than mad right now, I’m furious but whatever happens next..that’s my decision to make, Jen. I need you to know that.”
“..okay. I’m just trying to protect you Bradley but I won’t be there when you yell in my dad’s face tomorrow for pulling your papers..i want you to be okay.”
~~~
I want you to know
That it doesn't matter
Where we take this road
Someone's gotta go
~~~
At this point, her eyes were patchy with tears and her nose was reddish as she watched his face changed.
They were both on two different ends of the slightly aggressive disagreement. The two each had their reasons and doesn’t matter how many times they had to repeat them, until they got a point.
It was late.
They have been screaming and yelling at one another.
Their eyes were puffy and throats were dry, sore even.
Yes, they both wanted to touch the sky from the seat of their cockpits but they their reason weather or not to do so. Of course Jennifer wanted to fly just as bad as he did. But her fears and experiences from the family held her back.
The long distance trips, deployment, people she cared about dying young and old, and the navy not always living up to their truth.
She looked down at her necklace Bradley gave her months back on Valentine’s Day as a present, taking a deep breath removing it from her grasp and watching his face as she did.
Bradley’s eye furrowed in fear, annoyance and grief. His eyes flickered between every single way but meeting her gaze. He gulped, as the finger he used to point at her dropped and hesitated to raise again.
He shook his head, blinking twice walking forward in strives as his face said it all. He reminded himself at that moment how much love and respect he had for her, realizing how he basically bashed her more than once.
He didn’t mean to be this way. But watching her remove that single piece of jewelry he gave her the year before his mother died, the one was supposed to be used as a promise to her.
Well, it hurt.
~~~
And I want you to know
You couldn't have loved me better
But I want you to move on
So I'm already gone
I'm already gone
Already gone
You can't make it feel right
When you know that it's wrong
~~~
“W-what are you doing? J-Jen don’t. Please, don’t.” He said, standing in front of her glancing at the clock, “..i love you. Don’t do this.”
She sucked in a breath and held out the necklace, “I know you do. But I can’t hold you back. As much as we love one another, and will always be in each other’s lives..right now, we can’t.”
“I want you!”
“You want to fly.”
“I want both!”
“You want to have it all but it can’t happen right now. I can’t be the one holding you back..”
“Jen please..I’m begging you. I’m sorry, we can work it out!”
“Not with your anger and pride taking over..”
“T-think about this! You’re making a mistake here, Jen. I can’t let you be gone.”
“I’m already gone.”
“You’ll regret this!”
“And so will you.”
~~~
I'm already gone
Already gone
There's no moving on
So I'm already gone
Already gone
Already gone
Ooh, oh
Already gone
Already gone
Already gone, yeah
~~~
Bradley didn’t say another word, closing the gap between them as he looped a finger underneath her chin and pressed a kiss onto her cheek.
He felt a salty tear run down her cheek and reach his fingertips wiping the other way. The other hand took the necklace from grasping palm, fumbling with the chain for a moment.
Jennifer wrapped her around his middle and pressed her face against his neck huffing, holding back a sob as she ran her fingers across his golden brown curls.
She kissed his cheek and then forehead gazing softly into his eyes. He half smiled, leaning into her touch and hummed.
She didn’t want to say goodbye either, but she could bare to witness this any further than what thoughts appeared in her heard. The hint of his cologne entered her nose as she sighed deeply.
Both didn’t want to pull away from another’s light grip.
~~~~
Remember all the things we wanted
Now all our memories, they're haunted
We were always meant to say goodbye
I want you to know
That it doesn't matter
Where we take this road
Someone's gotta go
Bradley was the first to pull away noticing the white letters on the coffee table, one being addressed to her as he picked it up.
He signaled for her to open it. He knew she didn’t like to open mail late at night but he couldn’t leave without knowing she got in or not.
Either way, he will comfort her.
She hesitated for a moment, shaking her head but her actions speaker louder than words as she ripped opened the letter to expect something different yet familiar.
Her eyes ran across the page, handing it to Bradley as she gasped, hovering a hand over mouth. He read it quickly, eyesore scanning the sheet of paper to only sigh.
Same as him. She didn’t exactly get in.
The only thing he did was held Jenny in his arms, rubbing her shoulder as she let out a sob she was holding back. Tears rolled down his own face, baring his face into her hair mumbling a few things as they both sucked onto the couch.
No words were said, just soften noises escaped their lips. Resting her head against his chest, as he hummed staring at the wall.
Once again, their throats were sorely lacking as their faces remained dried up with fallen tear stains.
3 am.
They have been doing this for an entire hour.
Closed to almost 3:29am when Bradley stood up from the couch, resting a blanket across Jenny’s body.
Her eyes were nodding off as she whispered a soft, “..i love you..”
“I love you too..” He replied pressing a kiss to her forehead, “..get some rest.”
“You too..please?”
“I will..”
Without a second later, he walked out of the house with a small sigh and looked up at the sky that shined only a few stairs.
She reached over to the small lamp turning it off as her eyelids finally dropped, nuzzling against the throw pillow with a slight sigh.
~~~
And I want you to know
You couldn't have loved me better
But I want you to move on
So I'm already gone

Tumblr media
As you grew up, the adults that surrounded you always joked that you and Bradley Bradshaw were joined at the hip. Where one of you was, the other would not be far behind. You were the best of friends and you adored Bradley. He was a couple of years older than you but didn’t let it bother him even when people teased him for hanging out with someone who wasn’t in his grade at school and he always bit back, defending you wholeheartedly. Bradley was such a staple in your life that you couldn’t imagine life without him.
Until one day, everything changed.
Your dad, Pete Mitchell, better known as Maverick, pulled Bradley’s papers to the naval academy. You had no idea that he did it until a year after Bradley stopped talking to you. You had seen him on your way to school and waved at him but he just rolled his eyes and continued on his run, making your heart shatter in your chest. You had just been talking with him yesterday, helping him navigate the recent loss of his mother and now he wanted nothing to do with you? Worry and confusion ate away at you the whole school day, since Bradley had just graduated that summer you couldn’t corner him at lunch to get an answer out of him. You now instead had to wait until you could head around to see him at his house. As the day progressed you couldn’t help but wonder if it was just part of his grieving process. You knew anger was one of the five stages when it came to processing grief so maybe he was in that stage and just taking it out on you. Then your thoughts started to shift into more negative ones, and you started to wonder if you did something to upset him the last time you saw him. You replayed every word of the last conversation you had with Bradley and thought about whether anything you said could’ve come across as rude or upsetting to him and you just didn’t know. The second school was over you couldn’t have gotten out of the building any faster and you headed to Bradley’s house, stopping on the path when you noticed that his beautiful blue Bronco was missing from the driveway, indicating to you that Bradley wasn’t home. You chose to bite the bullet and head back home, hoping your dad might have some answers to your questions.
“Hey dad, do you know if I did something to upset Bradley? I saw him on my way to school this morning and he completely blanked me.” You asked as you ate dinner, you had your focus on your plate as you cut up your food so you missed how your dad tensed up at your question.
“No sweetheart, you didn’t do anything wrong.” Maverick replied, smiling softly over at you as he took a sip from his beer bottle as the angry words Bradley had yelled at him earlier echoed in his head repeatedly.
“You sure?” You ask timidly, wanting to know if there was anything you might’ve done that you didn’t notice but your dad did.
“Positive. Give him a little space, I’m sure he’ll come back before the week is up.” He said, his smile warm and encouraging as you nodded and continued to eat your dinner.
You would not speak another word to Bradley Bradshaw until almost twenty years later.
You didn’t follow in your father’s footsteps when you grew up. You instead became an elementary school teacher and found yourself living in San Diego, mere minutes away from Top Gun. You spent most of your childhood growing up in this area so it felt like returning home after coming back after a few years at college and then teaching in Vermont. You had found yourself missing California more than you cared to admit and when you found out about a teaching job at the elementary school near the naval base you knew you had to move back. You figured that not only would it be nice to come back to the place you called home, but since you were a military kid too, you could help the young children with parents in the navy when their parents went away on deployments. You got the job and moved back to San Diego with a smile on your face.
A few months after you got settled into your new job and your new house, you got a call from your dad, telling you that he had been called back to Top Gun to teach a bunch of Top Gun graduates how to fly a mission. You had offered to let him stay with you when he told you but he declined your offer, telling you that he already had quarters to live in but he promised he’d be visiting often. It was nice to have your dad back in town again, he’d been away on a fair few deployments recently so you enjoyed having him around again, and the fact he wouldn’t be flying the mission put you at ease slightly because, from the way he described it, this mission was one of the most dangerous ones he would’ve flown.
What Maverick didn’t tell you, was that Bradley was one of the Top Gun graduates who was a candidate for the mission. He knew that despite how much you tried to hide it behind your anger, you were still hurt by Bradley leaving and cutting you out of his life. And he knew that you still loved and cared for Bradley, and you would hate to hear that he would potentially be putting his life at risk if he was chosen for this mission.
A month after the uranium mission had been completed and Maverick and Bradley had repaired their relationship, you bumped into Bradley again for the first time in seventeen years. Dagger Squadron was now a permanent fixture in San Diego with Maverick staying too, not only for his team but because he reconnected with Penny and started going out again. It was nice to have your dad around permanently, and seeing how happy he was with Penny made you happy too.
You were in the shop when you bumped into Bradley again. You were browsing the aisles, searching for new stationery for your classroom since your spare pens never seemed to return when you lent the pens to your students after they realised, they had lost their own pens. You grabbed a large pack of ballpoint pens and turned around where you quickly collided with another body.
“Oh, I’m so sorry I didn’t mean to.” You apologised quickly, steadying yourself as the person you bumped into chuckled.
“No harm done.” Your heart plummeted at that all-too-familiar voice. You lifted your head to see those honey-coloured eyes you had loved so much growing up. Bradley had grown significantly since you last saw him, he’d filled out with muscles, his broad shoulders showing through the Hawaiian shirt he was wearing, evidence to you that he’d inherited his dad’s sense of style. He was now sporting a moustache that reminded you of Goose’s. As you stared at him you couldn’t stop thinking about how much you had missed him and how much of his life you had missed. But those feelings were overtaken by the anger you still held deep down at his abandonment of you. Before Bradley could say anything more, you turned on your heels and retreated, leaving Bradley standing in the middle of the stationary aisle with a confused expression. Bradley did a full sweep of the shop in the hopes he’d find you and be able to talk to you but you had left. Bradley had called Maverick on his way out of the shop, asking why he didn’t tell him that you were in town and why you were ignoring him. Maverick chose to tell Bradley that he wasn’t getting involved, that if he really wanted an answer then he had to talk to you himself. Bradley couldn’t help but groan as he hung up the phone with Maverick, knowing you’d seemingly rather talk to a pack of rabid wolves than talk to him with the way you hightailed it out of the shop. Bradley didn’t know why you were refusing to talk to him, he could’ve sworn the last time he spoke to you everything was okay between the two of you. Yes, he could admit that it had been a while since you last spoke with him but he only avoided talking to you because he was so angry at Maverick that he didn’t want to take anything out on you, and then he moved away to college before reapplying to the naval academy again. Bradley headed home, plotting ways to approach you and get you to talk to him.
After seeing Bradley in the store, you seemed to keep bumping into him everywhere you went. You tried to avoid him, ignoring him calling after you and brushing past him when he attempted to corner you. Every time you did, you felt your heart breaking more and more. You still held so much love in your heart for Bradley and it broke you to walk away from him every time you saw him. But every time you thought about hearing him out, you reminded yourself of the pain you felt when he not only ignored you but moved away without saying a word. You could understand why Bradley had been upset all those years ago, when your dad had told you that he pulled Bradley’s papers you got angry on Bradley’s behalf but soon came to understand your father's reasoning but that didn’t stop you from being at least a little upset that he did it because of the fallout it caused.
After a couple of weeks of you avoiding Bradley, he was reaching his breaking point. He was yearning to have you back in his life after so long without you. He knew he missed you when he left but he didn’t realise the severity of how much he missed you until he saw you again. He eventually figured you weren’t going to talk to him unless he could corner you somewhere. He hated himself for it, but he was growing frustrated with you avoiding him, he was trying to mend the bridge between you, and you were seemingly taking dynamite to the metaphorical bridge and destroying it further. He managed to coerce Maverick into giving him your address. He figured you’d be more comfortable talking to him in the four walls of your house and the worst you could do was slam the door in his face. He decided to wait until a Friday evening, deciding to skip Dagger Squad’s usual get-together at the Hard Deck and instead headed home after training to freshen up before heading to your house. He arrived at your house and walked up towards the house, going over what he wanted to say before he stopped in front of your front door, taking a deep breath before reaching to ring the doorbell.
Your eyebrows furrowed when you heard the ring of your doorbell. Your dad always called or texted before he came around, Penny too. You hadn’t invited anyone around nor had you ordered any food to be delivered, although you were sat on the sofa of your house staring at the takeaway pizza menu. Figuring it was one of your teaching assistants, swinging by to run something by you or check something with you before the weekend officially began, you dragged yourself off the sofa and towards the front door, pulling it open to reveal Bradley on the other side. Your face dropped at the sight of him and you went to close the door but he was quick to brace his hand on the door and prevent it from closing. Despite how much effort you were putting into closing the door, Bradley had more muscle than you and had a much easier time keeping the door open than you were having trying to close the door.
“y/n, please talk to me.” Bradley pleads, his eyes full of concern and sorrow as he stared at you.
“I don’t want to talk to you.” You say firmly, attempting to close the door once more but when he continues to hold the door open you give up, sighing heavily and stalking back towards the living room with Bradley hot on your heels after closing your front door behind him.
“y/n, I’ve been back in San Diego for a couple of months now and you’ve not spoken a word to me since I bumped into you in that shop. I tried to speak to Mav about why you’ve been avoiding me but he won’t tell me so I’ve been trying to talk to you so I can find out what’s going on here because last time we spoke-”
“Was almost twenty years ago Bradley.” You say, a sharp tone to your voice as you turn to face him, folding your arms over your chest as you stare at him.
“I don’t understand. I had to do what I could to get back into the naval academy after your dad pulled my papers. You know he did that, right?” Bradley counters, wanting you to understand why he did what he did.
“He told me a year after you left. I understand why you felt you had to do that but you didn’t need to cut me out like that. Like I meant nothing to you. Who am I kidding? Maybe I was nothing to you.” You scoff, turning away from Bradley when you feel the tears pricking at your eyes.
“y/n…” Bradley starts, aching to reach out and pull you into his arms but held himself back, knowing that was the last thing you wanted him to do.
“You never meant nothing to me.” He manages to continue, watching your movements carefully, seeing how you were fighting to keep the tears back and he silently hated himself for being the cause of them.
“Oh really? Sure felt like I did.” You mutter angrily, turning to walk into the kitchen with Bradley following behind like a lost puppy.
“You know, you meant the world to me. I loved you so much. Still do love you so much, more than I probably should. Growing up you were my best friend, the one person I wanted to spend my time with and you just left without so much as a goodbye. The last time I ever saw you before you left, you rolled your eyes at me when I tried to say hi. I spent a year of my life thinking I had done or said something that drove you off. Dad only told me what he did because he watched me blame myself for a year. Bradley, you broke my heart. But as much as I want to hate you, I can’t. Every single bit of anger I had towards you is gone because seeing you after so long reminded me of how much I love you and how much I missed you while you were gone.” You say, tears finally rolling down your cheeks at your confession and you saw as Bradley’s face softened at your words.
“y/n. I’ve been a shitty friend, I know that. I don’t deserve your forgiveness and I certainly don’t deserve your love, especially after what I put you through. You were never the cause of why I stopped talking to you. I was a coward. I was scared that because of how angry I was at Mav I was going to take it out on you too. I know now that I should’ve just talked to you but by the time I realised that what I was doing was stupid, the damage had already been done and I was packing my stuff to go to college. I should’ve reached out to you and talked to you way before now because you deserved to know the truth. Don’t ever say I didn’t care about you because I did. I still do. You are still my world. I couldn’t stop thinking about you since I moved away. I thought I’d never get to see you again. That I’d never get to tell you just how much I loved you, because it’s a lot. I am so sorry y/n.” Bradley’s words make you look up at him, his now teary eyes locking with yours. Every memory you had with Bradley flashed through your mind. Memories of spending hours at the beach together. Memories of how he protected you fearlessly when people picked on you. You were seeing your Bradley again in front of you. You took a step towards him and wrapped your arms around his torso, squeezing him tight. Bradley let out a shuddering breath at the hug before gingerly wrapping his arms around you, tugging you a little closer when you show no indication of letting go any time soon. Bradley then dips his head into the crook of your neck and allows his pent-up tears to fall.
“I’m so sorry. I’m so, so sorry y/n.” He mutters over and over again. His voice muffled by the soft material of your shirt.
“It’s okay, Bradley.” You mumble, one of your hands reaching up to run through his hair to try and calm him down. Once both you and Bradley had calmed down, you moved to sit on the sofa and you could tell from his expression that he wanted to talk about the massive elephant in the room. Both you and Bradley had just confessed your feelings for each other.
“So, we just admitted we loved each other, huh?” You say quietly, laughing lightly at yourself as you look up at Bradley. You had kept your love for him a closely guarded secret, kept behind walls in the confines of your heart but the second you were alone in your house with him, your walls came crumbling down and you poured your heart out to him.
“We did yes. I meant it. I’ve loved you as more than a friend since we were teenagers. But I totally understand if you want nothing to do with me after what I did to you.” Bradley says, gaze lowering in shame as he speaks.
“I meant it in that way too. I honestly didn’t think I’d ever say it to your face but here we are.” You chuckle weakly, lifting your hand to cup his chin so you could direct him to be looking at you instead of at the floor.
“Can I kiss you?” Bradley asks suddenly, his eyes widening when he realises what he said. As he opened his mouth to apologise and backtrack, you pressed your lips to his, pulling him impossibly closer as he reciprocates the kiss. When you pull apart, you press your forehead to his, lips mere inches apart as you grin happily at each other.
“I’ve been waiting seventeen years for you to ask me that question.” You tease as Bradley’s grin grows playful.
“Well, I guess we’ve got a lot to catch up on then.” Bradley says playfully, pulling you towards him as he falls back along the sofa, you lying on top of him in a giggling heap. You cuddle into him instantly as his arms remain firmly wrapped around you. Bradley’s arms felt like home. Like nothing could harm you and you were safe from whatever the outside world could throw at you. As you cuddled into Bradley’s chest, he smiled to himself as he tightened his grip slightly. His world was back in his life and this time he wasn’t ever going to leave you again.

warning [s] : nothing!
a/n [s] : dal lives for requesting brad [requests are open!]

“Brad,” You say above the music that plays on the radio. “I’m worried. Who says they'll like me? I mean, these are your parents.”
Bradley looks over to you, hand stopping the tapping movement on your thigh. His Ray-Bans cover his eyes, but you can tell he's looking at you. “Baby, just be yourself. My mom said she's tired of hearing the stories about you, and how ‘wonderful’ you already seem. I promise it will be fine.”
When the large, suburban Bradshaw home comes in your sight, you feel the pit in your stomach start to fill with worry. “Are you ready?” Bradley asks.
You nod and he shuts the engine off and gets out of the car, and you follow slightly after and grab your purse and phone. There are about fifteen cars parked in the driveway and on the edge of the road, as well as in the grass. You knew it was a family reunion, but not this big of a reunion. You connect your hands with Bradley’s and scoot closer to him.
He takes you up the stairs and knocks on the door. There are some small Halloween and fall decorations on the wrap around porch on each pole. You're zoned out on the porch decor when you hear it. “Bradley! Hello honey!” An older woman's voice captures your attention and you give her a large smile.
She has Bradley in her arms before she takes you in. “Oh, you must be Y/N! You are so beautiful. You are just the sweetest! Come inside!” Her hand pushes you both in and you look around at everyone mingling, children running around, and right in the middle of everything stands Nick Bradshaw.
“Here, why don't you come and meet my dumb husband Nick. Now, we have both been dying to meet you. Bradley never seems to shut his mouth about you, I already love you from what he's told me.” Carole is practically dragging you too, and Bradley shrugs his shoulders and follows after his mother.
“Bradley! There's my boy!” A loud obnoxious shout fills your ears. You smile when Nick hugs Bradley in his arms, and shakes him around. He looks almost identical to Bradley, with thinner hair and the fact he was greying. “And you must be?” He turns and lets go of him, and shakes your hand.
“Y/N. I’m Bradley’s girlfriend.” When you say it, he shouts a yell and kicks his feet around. You can't tell how a man in his sixties can somehow do all of this, but you're smiling and laughing.
“Oh! You are one pretty catch! It is really nice to meet you!” Nick puts his arm around Carole and tugs her into his chest. She hits it playfully and lets Nick kiss her.
“Isn’t she just beautiful?”
“Bradley has good taste, just like his father.” Nick jokes and Bradley laughs. The atmosphere is warm and the worries start to disappear. Bradley stays close to you and he interacts with cousins, aunts, uncles, and others.
“I told you it would be fine.” Bradley told you later, handing you a water as you flipped through old baby pictures and other pictures from his childhood. He sits down next to you and covers an embarrassing picture with his hand. You look up and smile at him, and he kisses you on the tip of your nose and travels to your lips with soft pecks.
“I know. I've also been invited to brunch with your mom.”

Bradley “Rooster” Bradshaw Imagine: Drunk Sailors
Tumblr media
Warnings: agegap(around 11 years, I’m making Bradley a little younger than he would be in TG:M), anxiety, depression, non-sexual nudity
“Hey, barkeep!” I hear someone shout from the other end of the bar. “Where’s my drink?” I just ignore him because I am currently helping someone else, and he never actually ordered anything. Just walked into the bar already drunk. “I asked where my drink was!” he yelled again, and I turn towards him, grabbing a random bottle of beer. “Here you go sir,” I say, handing it to him. “This isn’t what I wanted!” “I’m sorry. What can I get for you?” “Nothing you bitch. I’ll drink this until the next waitress gets here. She’ll know what I want. She’ll actually know how to do her job,” he says, angrily, and then stalks off. I look around the bar, see no one there, and then sink down to the floor behind the bar, wrapping my arms around myself and quietly crying. I notice my co-worker come around the back of the bar and look down at me. “Y/N, what happened?” he asks, squatting down to eye level. “Um nothing new. Just another drunk guy yelling at me. That guy out there called me a bitch and said I don’t know how to do my job because he was yelling at me without actually telling me his order, so I just gave him a random beer,” I tell him, and hear him scoff, before he gives me a pat on my shoulder and stands up, quickly walking in the direction I assume the drunk guy is. “Hey! You!” I hear him shout, but I don’t move. “Get out! You don’t walk in drunk and then treat the bartender like that! Get out!” he shouts again, his voice getting smaller as they shoo the guy out of the bar. “Hey, Pen,” he shouts when they get close again, “can you come out here?” I hear my mom vaguely reply, before he walks away and it gets a little quiet again. Before long I hear my mom’s voice. “Y/N, where are you?” my mom, Penny Benjamin, asks as she walks behind the bar, only to find me sitting on the floor with my arms wrapped around my knees, tears in my eyes. “Why don’t you head on home? You opened today, and Tara will be here for her shift soon. You go on home, go see Bradley.” “He’s not back with Dad yet. They went out this morning for training and haven’t come back yet. Besides, I’m fine,” I say, and then sigh heavily and lift myself off the ground. “I just need a second and I’ll be ready to face another customer.” “Honey,” my mom quietly says before pulling me into a hug. “It’s okay. You leaving early doesn’t mean you’re weak. It means there have been at least three drunk old men who yelled at you today, plus however many from yesterday, the day before, and so on and so forth. You haven’t had a day off in two weeks. Go home.” “Are you sure? I can at least wait until Tara gets he-” I abruptly stop because my mom slapped her hand over my mouth. “Go. Home. To your apartment. Out with Bradley. Anywhere but here, or my house. I don’t care. Just go. Take a few days. I’ve got it here. You need a break,” she finishes, before kissing me on the forehead and shoving me out from behind the bar. “Thanks, Mom,” I say, before turning to go to the office to grab my stuff. When I enter the office I take a second to sink down in the chair and open the drawer that mom hides the scotch in, and pull the bottle out. I take a swig, and then set the bottle down. “Ew. I don’t even like scotch,” I say to no one but myself,  and then pull out my phone to check and see if Bradley has texted me since he got to work this morning. Brads🥰🐔 Hey hun, I’m on my way to the Hard Deck with your dad, he asked me to drop him off. See you there. Sent 20 minutes ago I read the message again and then look at the time, before grabbing my bag and running out of the office, turning the corner and running smack dab into someone. “Sweetheart, move a little slower,” I hear my dad say as he catches me. “Sorry Dad. Did Brads leave?” I say as I give him a quick hug before pulling away, and frantically looking around. “No, he’s talking to your mom. I came to find you because your mom told me about what happened. Your mom is sending you home early because some customer yelled at you?” he says, looking at me as though he is willing to hurt anyone who dared yell at me. “I’m fine, Dad,” I reply, already over this conversation. “I’m used to it. Drunk dudes, especially sailors, tend to be mean whenever they have to wait for something. They have just been especially mean the last week, and I hit my limit today. Mom found me crying on the floor behind the bar,” I say, quickly, and with a slight shrug of my shoulders as I tuck my hair behind my ear.  “I’m gonna go find Bradley, see if he’ll take me home. Love you pops.” “I love you too, kid,” he replies before leaning down and kissing the top of my head, and turning towards the office. “What are you going to the office for?” I ask with a small chuckle. “Oh, I told your mom I would finish filing the paperwork she left out.” I just nod in response and turn back towards the bar area, focusing back on finding Bradley. I feel my phone buzz in my pocket as I step into the main area, but before I can pull it out, I hear him call my name. “Y/N! There you are,” Bradley says as he walks over to me. “Yeah, sorry I was hiding in the office. Did you talk to mom?” I ask him, looking up and tucking my hair behind my ear again. “Yeah. Let’s get out of here before some other drunk dude says something and I have to punch him,” he says, leans down and kisses me on the forehead, wraps his arm around me, pulling me into his side, leading me towards the front door. “Bye honey!” I hear my mom shout from somewhere behind me. Bradley lifts his hand in a wave as I shout back, not even bothering to try to turn and see where she is. When we get outside Bradley opens the door to the Bronco for me and helps me in, before shutting the door and walking over to his side. He climbs in and starts the car, and then leaning over me to grab my seatbelt. I make no motion to help, because he does this every time we get in any car, and it just makes me feel incredibly safe and loved, so I stopped fighting it after our third date. Before he leans back into his own seat, he grabs my chin and pulls me in for a kiss. I laugh and we both smile into the kiss, and then he pulls back and puts his own seatbelt on. He turns out of the parking lot and places his hand on my thigh, and I zone out tracing the veins on his hand as he drives. “... you want to go?” he asks me, and I snap back to reality. “Um, well I thought we were just going home. Are we not doing that?” “Baby, I just asked you if you wanted to get some food before we head back to your apartment. Are you okay?” “Um. No. But yeah, let's get some food. Can we go get Chipotle?” “Yeah of course. Here, take my phone and order it ahead so we can get home quicker,” he says, and hands me his phone. I unlock it and open the Chipotle app, putting both of our orders in and closing out of the app. “Hey, can I send a snap in the Dagger Squad group chat?” I say with a small smile on my face. “Yeah of course. Nat was just telling me she missed you. Do you wanna hang out with them tonight?” he asks right as I take a selfie and send it to the squad. “Um. No, it’s been a rough couple of weeks. I just want it to be us tonight. Is that okay?” I ask, and curl up into my seat, handing him his phone back. “Sweetheart, of course that’s okay. It’ll be nice to have a night with just the two of us.” I mumble a response, and lean against the window looking out of it. When we arrive at Chipotle, Bradley leaves the car running and runs inside to get our food. When he comes back he puts it down in the backseat, hands me my drink, and then grabs his phone. I pay no attention to what he is doing, until suddenly a song I know that he never listens to, and I only listen to when I turn on my anxiety playlist,  is playing through the car. I look up at him as he places his phone down and then reaches his hand over, grabs my hand, and then rests our intertwined hands on my thigh. I lean away from the window, and reach my available hand to grab his phone. “Is this my anxiety playlist?” I ask him as I grab it, quickly unlocking it to see what playlist is playing. He chuckles and nods as I look at his phone, and see that it is. I scroll through the list to find another song I would like to listen to, and he laughs as it starts to play, and we both sing along. When we pull up to our apartment, Bradley turns the car off and then gets out, grabbing the bag of food and coming around to my side of the car, just as I open my door. He holds his hand out to help me down, because the Bronco is just a bit too tall for me to casually get out of it, and the process typically ends with me falling over. We walk inside and Bradley takes the food to the kitchen while I head to the bedroom to change out of what I had worn to work. I stand in front of the closet for a second, and then ultimately decide on a pair of biker shorts and one of Bradley’s t-shirts. When I walk back into the main area of the house, Bradley has pulled a movie up on the tv, and is sitting on the couch with a beer in front of him. “I wasn’t sure if you would want one of your drinks, but I have your soda over here,” he says, turning to me as I walk in. “Okay, thanks,” I reply, walking over and joining him on the couch. “What movie did you pull up?” “Your favorite. Now, let’s eat and watch this movie,” he says, and hands me a fork, and we both sit and watch the movie and eat our dinner.
By the end of the movie I’m laying in between Bradley’s legs with my head on his chest. I stare at the television as the credits roll, just zoning out. Before I know it, I’m thinking about what happened today again, and I sit up really quickly with tears in my eyes, and walk to the bedroom before Bradley can notice. I shut the door and cross over to the bed, sliding down on the side of it until I’m sitting on the floor. I just sit there, crying, not paying attention to how long it’s been or anything else that is happening. Eventually, Bradley knocks on the door, before slowly opening it. “Honey?” he says, leaning his head in the room. He looks down and sees me on the floor, and crosses over the threshold quickly, and picks me up, sitting down on the bed with me in his lap. I start crying even more at his kindness, and I bury my face in his neck, with him rubbing my back as I cry. Slowly I stop to cry, and as I begin to move Bradley speaks up. “Honey, do you want to take a bath? I can run one for you if you want.” “Yeah, I think that would be good,” I respond with a sniff, standing up from his lap. “Okay. I’ll go run the bath, you find a nice pair of pajamas you want to sleep in,” he responds, and stands up, kissing me on the forehead as he heads out of the room to the restroom. I cross to the dresser that holds our pajamas, and grab my favorite pair, before heading out of the room towards the bathroom. When I walk in Bradley is finishing pouring bath salts and bubble bath in the tub, and stands up as I walk in. “Okay, bath is ready to go. Do you need anything?” “Um, no. Wait!” I say as he turns to leave. “What are you going to do while I’m in the bath?” “I’m going to change our sheets, because we’ve needed to for a while and what better time than when one of us is having a bad day. And then I’m going to dig your old “magic” nap blanket from whatever cabinet we have it shoved in. Then, I’ll do whatever you need me to do. Sit in here with you, wait out there until you’re done. Whatever you need,” he says, and then walks closer and pulls me into him. Now, you enjoy your bath, and I will leave you to it. I love you,” he says, and then kisses me before pulling away and heading towards the door. “I love you,” I respond, and then sigh as he closes the door behind him. I strip down and climb into the bath, just laying there in silence, feeling the stress of the day work its way out of my body. I sink lower and lower into the bath, just relaxing.
I lose track of how much time I’ve spent in the bath when I hear a knock at the door. I mumble a “come in” and as I do so Bradley steps into the bathroom. “Hey kid. How’s it going?” he asks, squatting down by the edge of the tub, and dipping his hand below the water to rest on my knee. “It’s going well. I feel a lot better,” I say, and sit up a little in the tub. “I think I’m almost ready to get out. I don’t see any reason to keep marinating in dirty water,” I say with a little chuckle. “Okay darling. What do you want to do when you get out?” “I think I want to shower. Then watch a movie in bed,” I tell him, and grab his hand to move it so I can stand up. I carefully stand up and step out onto the bathmat. “Do you want to shower with me?” I ask him while I walk from the tub to the shower. “Do you want me to?” “Yes, I would love you to,” I tell him, and then slip into the shower and turn the water on. Before too long I hear his belt hit the floor, and the shower door opens to let him in. He reaches around me to grab the shampoo, and then pauses. “Here, turn around, I’ll wash your hair,” he tells me, and I oblige, turning so my back is to him. I hear the shampoo come out of the bottle and go into his hand, hear the lid click shut, and then feel him begin to rub the shampoo into my scalp. After he rinses the shampoo out, I turn around and wrap my arms around his waist, and bury my head in his chest, and he reciprocates the motion. “I’m really tired of having shitty days,” I mumble into his chest, and he squeezes my waist tighter. “I know. But, your mom just essentially gave you the rest of the week off, and if you take longer she won’t care.” “I know,” I mumble again, before pulling away. “Wanna go to the beach tomorrow?” I ask him with a sly smile on my face. “Of course I do. Why that look though?” “I,” I start, as I turn around to turn off the water, “may or may not have bought a new swimsuit the other day. And a new picnic basket. And maybe some stuff to make a picnic,” I finish as I wrap myself up in a towel and cross into our room to start digging around in our pajama drawer for a pair of comfortable pajamas. “A beach picnic tomorrow? Sounds good to me,” he says as he pulls on a pair of boxers and climbs into our bed. “Thank you for everything,” I quietly say as I cuddle into him after climbing into bed. “You deserve nothing less,” he says, as he wraps his arm around me and keeps me close to his side after pulling the covers up. “I should be able to handle one person yelling at me,” I whisper, beginning to let the thoughts I've been having all day come out of my mind. “Really. A normal person wouldn’t cry because one drunk guy yelled at them.” “Okay, let's entertain that thought,” he says, sitting up in the bed, not allowing me to go to bed still thinking that it was my fault. “How many days in a row this week did a drunk guy yell at you?” “Um. Maybe four. Or three. I’m not sure. They all started to blend together,” I respond, looking up at him. “And on average, how many days in a row do you think normal people are yelled at by drunks?” “Well. It depends on if they work in a bar or not. Why?” “Because, kid, it doesn’t matter that you have anxiety. That is not what caused you to cry today. What caused you to cry today, was an asshole that decided it was okay to yell at someone for no good reason. I remember exactly how many days in a row a drunk guy yelled at you, because I was there for all of them except this one, and it was five,” he says, and then pauses to pull me into him, leaving not an inch of space between the two of us. “You deserve a break. You handled yourself fine. And I am so proud of you, and shocked that you were able to make it through four days of people yelling at you. I am so proud of you, I know I already said it, but I’ll keep saying it until you believe it.” “Bradley,” I say with tears in my eyes, and then realize that I don’t have any words to say, so I just say “I love you,” and then wrap my arms around his neck and pull him into a kiss.

Just Between Us - Prologue
Tumblr media
Bradley has been in love with you since you were thirteen. He would do absolutely anything for you, including fake dating you so that your parents didn’t find out about your secret older boyfriend.
High School AU Bradley Bradshaw x Best Friend Mitchell!Reader
Warnings: 27 year old OC dating a 17 year old Reader. Goose is alive…….. and he’s kind of an antagonist……. Oops. Not proof read bc it’s 4am and I have work tomorrow.
At seventeen years old you were old enough to know the signs of a guy liking you. And maybe Bradley had checked all of those boxes, but you just couldn’t bring yourself to acknowledge it. Growing up as an only child, he was your person. A best friend, a confidant, a shoulder to cry on, a person meant only for you. “What if they get married someday” quickly turned to “they’re definitely gonna get married someday” in the conversations your parents would have about you behind your backs. Pete Mitchell, Ester Mitchell, Nick Bradshaw and Carole Bradshaw watched on painfully at every interaction the two of you had. Whether it was hanging out watching tv, doing a class project together, or miserably failing at baking, three things were always extremely evident to all of them.
1. Bradley was hopelessly in love with you.

2. You had no idea.

If Nick was honest, the intensity in which Bradley loved you scared him a little bit. There was a running list of reasons this incited fear in him, but he would never say it out loud. He was pretty confident that Bradley would come to him for advice about the situation one day, and he would use that moment to steer him in the right direction. Until then he would keep his thoughts to himself and he certainly wouldn’t tell his wife. She has been planning your wedding ever since she noticed that glint of lovestruck awe in her son’s eyes.
It’s not that he didn’t love you. You had always been like a daughter to him, in the same way Bradley was like a son to Pete. Nick just has a gut feeling that if you asked Bradley to walk into oncoming traffic, he’d do it with a smile on his face and that is what worries him.
“I thought y/n had a study group tonight?” Nick casually mentions to the small group of parents as he sees your figure blur pass the entry way and up to Bradley’s room.
“She was supposed to. It probably ended early or something…” Pete trails off and looks over at his wife who is giving him a queasy look. “I- I’ll go check on them. I mean her. I’ll go check on her.” He put down his drink and walked up the stairs.
3. You and Bradley were sleeping together.

A topic of conversation that had begun amongst the group when Carole walked in on the two of you curled up in bed a few weeks ago.
“Well, did they have clothes on?!”
“I don’t know, I just bolted out of there! I don’t think they even saw me, they were sleeping!”
“Did they have clothes on?”
Pete shoots his wife a pointed look as he bounces back down the staircase. “Yes, and not funny.” Pete was in extreme denial that his precious baby girl even knew what sex was. He was wrong.
“She said her study group ended early because a few kids had track practice,” he explained.
Upstairs you were throwing yourself onto Bradley’s old leather beanbag, a giddy smile on your face. He was reading some magazine about airplanes that you had bought for him at the convenience store yesterday. “I have a secret!” Your mischievous smile beamed across the room towards him.
He eyed you with an unserious fearful look. “What…?” He said cautiously. It wasn’t often, if ever, you two kept secrets from one another.
“I wasn’t at a study group.”
“But you just told your dad-”
“I know what I told my dad, Bradley. But I couldn’t tell him where I actually was or he’d lose his shit.” You explained.
Bradley sat up on his bed, laying the magazine face down on the blue quilt. You had peaked his interest now. He looked at you expectantly, waiting for you to reveal your previous whereabouts.
He raised his eyebrows, “well are you gonna tell me?”
“Tell you what?” You said with faux confusion.
“Where you were!” Bradley laughed.
“Oh… sure I’ll tell you… for a price.” You bargained.
“Ever the hustler, huh?” he rolled his eyes playfully. “What do you want?”
“I want your cookie tomorrow at lunch!” You seemingly pulled that out of your back pocket.
Your immediate response had taken Bradley aback, but he laughed at you as your eyes sparkled with pride. “Fine, now spill it.”
“I was on a date!” You whispered with excitement.
Bradley felt that ever so familiar heart drop. A date. You had been on a date.
He couldn’t even get out a response before you started your way over to him, phone in hand. You plopped down next to him. Your perfume smelt so good today. Had you put it on for your date?
Bradley watches your side profile as you scroll through your phone, letting the screen illuminate your face. A strand of your neatly pulled back hair suddenly fell out of place, but before Bradley could reach up to fix it, you brushed it behind your ear without a second thought and quickly turned to face your phone towards him.
“This is him! Isn’t he cute? I mean, I know you probably can’t tell cause you’re a guy, and guys can’t tell when another guy is hot but-”
As you rambled, Bradley’s face morphed into terror while looking at the photo. He gently took the phone from your hand to get a better look. “Y/n. How old is this guy?”
“But I figured you’d– Oh, he’s only like twenty-seven.”
“Twenty-seven?!” Bradley shouted as he stood abruptly from the bed.
“Bradley, keep your fucking voice down!” You stood up to face him, glancing at the door to make sure it was shut all the way.
“Twenty-seven!” He turned his full shout, to a whisper shout. His shock still hadn’t worn off. “Y/n, you’re seventeen.” Bradley reminds you.
“Oh thanks for reminding me, I didn’t know that.” Sarcasm twisted in your tone but he ignores you.
“Y/n, this is serious, you’re a minor. He’s 10 years older than you. Does he know you’re seventeen?”
You huffed in annoyance. “Yes, he knows and he’s fine with it.” Bradley’s shock only grew more as he paced away from you. “Dude, can you just be cool about it? My dad is 8 years older than my mom, it’s not that big of a deal.”
Bradley angrily turns on his heel to face you.. He was visibly stressed and pissed. “Dude, the big deal is that he’s a full grown adult and you’re in highschool. He’s a fucking pedophile, y/n!”
“A pedo- I’m not a child, Bradley-”
“UH, legally, yeah you are!” He interrupts you.
“Well, legally, I’m an adult next month.” You retorted, throwing your hands up. “So…”
Bradley seemingly loses the strength to fight with you on this any longer, as he sits down in his desk chair, placing his elbows on his knees and puts his face in his hands. He lets out a deep sigh.
“B…” You said quietly, walking over to him. When he didn’t look up, you sat down in front of him and gently pulled his hands away from his face. He looked at you, eyes full of anxiety and exhaustion from your mini fight. “B, I understand why you’re worried, but you gotta trust me. I’m being careful and we haven’t had sex or anything. I haven’t even kissed him, I just really like him and I think he likes me too.”
The mention of sex makes Bradley’s heart stop for a second. He was happy to hear you say you hadn’t done anything with this clearly disturbed man, but he still felt nauseous at the fact that you even had it on your mind.
“I-I don’t know what to say, y/n.” Bradley gives up.
“Just… say you trust me.”
Trusting you is far different than trusting this stranger, but it wasn’t a lie when Bradley responded “I trust you.”
“Good! Now, tell me about your magazine!”
And just like that, Bradley had gotten over his anger with you. Your sweet face looking up at him with a small grin. You were trying to cheer him up and distract from the argument that had just gone down. You both knew that this conversation would definitely pick up another time, but for right now  Bradley would just tell you about his magazine.

Altitude - Chapter 10
Bradley "Rooster" Bradshaw x Mitchell Fem!OC
Pete "Maverick" Mitchell x Fem!OC
Summary: Sydney is not a pilot. But she knows all their tricks. That's why, when she meets the smooth-talking Bradley "Rooster" Bradshaw, she's not falling for any of them. She's not falling for him, either.
CW: Love triangle, angst, marital conflict, slow burn
Start from the beginning: Part I
Tumblr media
Bradley glances up as Sydney crashes into the seat across from him, beaming. She's out of breath, having just finished dancing with Hangman in the small opening between the tables.
"Having fun?" he asks, although his tone isn't as grim as he expects, considering his mood.
Sydney nods, closing her eyes and letting out a sigh. "Tired," she breathes.
Bradley chuckles as she lets her body relax into the chair. Her cheeks are flushed and she's got about a million fly-away hairs framing her face. Her dark eyelashes are so long they're practically resting on her cheeks when her eyes are shut. He grits his teeth, reminding himself that falling for her would be a mistake. Perhaps if she weren't related to the one person who's wreaked more havoc on his life than a goddamn tornado, he might have let his guard down.
Sydney's eyelids flutter open and she eyes him curiously. "How come you're not dancing?" she asks.
He looks over at the two feet of space between the tables. "Didn't realize it was that kind of party," he says with a small smirk. He kind of hates it that her presence makes him goofy, so he instantly furrows his brows and pulls in his cheeks.
Sydney laughs and, for a moment, he watches her face transform as her smile reaches her eyes. His gaze shifts to look behind her toward the bar where Hangman is staring them down while waiting for his beverage. Bradley meets his eyes with an unyielding glare of his own. Hangman has nothing to worry about – Bradley isn't planning on pursuing Sydney any more than he is befriending Maverick – but a sick part of him still likes to make the cocky aviator sweat.
"So," Bradley says. "Seresin?"
"What's wrong with Seresin?" she asks, leaning forward into the table.
Bradley makes a face. "I'm not a fan."
Sydney smirks. "You don't say."
Bradley chuckles. His eyes slide to Maverick and Amelia who are sitting at the opposite end of the bar. "What's the deal with your parents?" he asks.
Sydney glances over at her mother and father. Her face falls slightly and she turns back to Bradley with a grimace. "They're plagued by an eternal love despite being completely incompatible with one another," she says.
Bradley raises his eyebrows at her in mild amusement. "That sounds awfully pessimistic," he responds.
Sydney shrugs. "Last week they weren't even on speaking terms."
Bradley frowns. "That must be tough," he says. "For you, I mean. And for them, I suppose."
Sydney lowers her gaze and starts fiddling with her fingers. He's almost sorry he brought it up. "I'm just tired of him stringing her along," she says.
Bradley glances over at Sydney's parents again and, as much as he hates to admit it, there is nothing insincere about the way Maverick looks at Sydney's mother. "In what way is he stringing her along?" he asks.
"He's just unreliable. One day, he's all in. The next, he's gone," Sydney says.
Bradley's gaze follows Maverick and Amelia as they head for the door. "I think they're taking off," he says.
Sydney looks over her shoulder and, when she turns back, she's wearing a sour expression. "I don't get how they don't see it. They make each other miserable."
Bradley watches her sympathetically. "But do they also make each other happy?"
Before Sydney could respond, Jake arrives at their table with a beer in one hand and a cocktail in the other. He slides into the seat beside Sydney, all the while eyeing Bradley suspiciously. "How's it hangin', Rooster?" he says with an artificial grin.
Bradley cocks an eyebrow. "Shouldn't I be asking you that, Hangman?"
Sydney snorts and Hangman looks at her, cringing. "Don't encourage him," he says.
Bradley rolls his eyes, glancing at Sydney who is biting into her bottom lip to keep from laughing.
Hangman looks back at Bradley. "Don't you have anywhere else to be, Bradshaw?" he asks.
Bradley stares at him. "This is my table," he says. "You guys are sitting at my table."
Hangman starts inspecting the surface of the table with furrowed brows. He then ducks down to check the underside as well. "Funny," he comments. "I don't see your name on it."
"I was here first," Bradley says flatly.
"Well," Hangman says with a wide grin. "I was here first," he states, pointing at Sydney.
Sydney scoffs, turning to glare at Hangman. Bradley closes his eyes and shakes his head. He purses his lips and brings a hand up to hide his laughter at the sight of Sydney's outraged face.
"I was joking!" Hangman throws his hands up in the air as Sydney stands. "Come on! You found Rooster's joke funny!"
Bradley blinks innocently between Hangman and Sydney. "My joke wasn't at her expense," he notes.
Hangman groans in frustration as Sydney starts to walk away. He jumps up and runs after her. Bradley observes their interaction from the table with a scowl and, when Hangman grabs Sydney's arm to prevent her from leaving, Bradley rises from his seat and marches over to them.
When Hangman sees him coming, he rolls his eyes and warns, "Back off, Bradshaw."
"I'd take your own advice if I were you," Bradley says darkly, putting himself between Hangman and Sydney.
Hangman laughs in his face. "Rooster," he says, his voice quiet but threatening. "Move."
"I'm leaving," Sydney says, pushing past them both.
Hangman gives Bradley a cross look but, when he goes to follow her, Bradley jumps forward to drive his palm into Hangman's chest.
"Rooster, I swear to god, if you don't get out of my way" –
"Let her cool off, man," Bradley says levelly. "You're not getting anywhere tonight, trust me."
Hangman narrows his eyes at him, trying to identify the ulterior motive behind Bradley's advice. He's wasting his time; Bradley just wants to prevent an unnecessary altercation and spare the trouble of everybody involved. "She doesn't have a car, Rooster," Hangman says finally.
"She'll take a cab," Bradley replies.
"A cab?" Hangman makes a face. "What are you, eighty?" He shakes his head, pulling out his phone. "I guess I can get her an Uber."
Bradley glances over his shoulder toward the door where, just outside, Sydney is standing with her phone in her hands. "She's probably beaten you to it," Bradley says, looking back at Hangman. "I can give her a ride," he offers.
Hangman chuckles. "And there it is."
Bradley watches Hangman coldly.
"Are you even sober?" Hangman asks.
Bradley stares at him. "I wouldn't offer to drive her if I weren't."
Hangman sighs, gazing at Sydney over Bradley's shoulder. "Fine," he agrees. "But no funny business."
Bradley gives him a bored look. "I don't think either of us is in a funny mood, Hangman," he replies. "So, you've got nothing to worry about."
Hangman eyes him with a grimace. "Well, aren't you two just a couple of peas in a pod?"
...
Bradley steps out of the establishment and Sydney glances over her shoulder to look at him.
"I'm not going back in," she says.
Bradley sticks his hands into his pockets and stands beside her. "I wasn't going to ask you to," he responds, looking straight ahead at the ocean rather than at her.
She glances up at him. "Good," she says.
Bradley nods, still not looking at her. He doesn't need to see her face bathed in the soft glow of sunset. He can already imagine what it might look like. He lets out a steady breath and says, "Want a ride?"
Sydney seems to hesitate for a moment and Bradley almost breaks and looks over at her. "Why not?" she finally says.
Bradley holds out his hand, motioning for Sydney to walk ahead of him and, when she steps forward, he lifts the bookbag off her shoulder. She turns sharply as he swings the strap over his own arm.
"What the hell, Bradshaw?" she exclaims, reaching for her bag.
Bradley twists away from her grasp. "Will you stop taking offense to everything?" he says.
She lifts her eyebrows. "Excuse me?"
Bradley watches her impassively. "I know you can carry your own bag, Sydney," he says. "I'm just trying to lighten your load a bit. You've got a lot going on right now."
"What are you talking about?"
Bradley sighs, his eyes skimming her face. He's not overly pleased that he's been forced to look at her despite his attempts to avoid it. As he's predicted, Sydney's fuming face, framed by the radiance of sunset in behind, is likely the most beautiful thing he's ever seen and, as such, will be plaguing his thoughts for weeks to come. He tears his eyes away from her and says, "It's my fault you're in a shitty mood. I brought up your parents" –
"They have nothing to do with my shitty mood."
"Right," he says. "You just happened to snap at poor Hangman over a stupid joke right after seeing your parents walk out together."
Sydney sighs forcefully, staring at the ground. "What did he even say?"
Bradley chuckles. "You don't remember?"
Sydney shakes her head.
Bradley presses his lips together in a smile. "Let's keep it that way, then," he says and, bringing his hand up to her shoulder, he leads her across the patio toward the parking lot.

Broken Skies (Bradley Bradshaw x Mitchell! Reader) Chapter 1
Note: I apologize for the long long wait. I was really lacking motivation and just on a long writer's block for the past few months. But here is Chapter 1 for Broken Skies. The Sneak Peak is linked below for those that have not read it yet. And also thank you @justabigassnerd and @callsign-dexter for motivating me to write more! ❤️
This is a redo of my Bradley Bradshaw Part 1. This is more of a prequel rather than a sneak peek this time. Mel - “one who is fearless and daring.” Canon characters are out of character. Iceman will be healthy in this fic.
Warnings: Nothing big, maybe angst, other than a brief mention of death, and military inaccuracies. NOT grammar/spelling checked. Some switching between first names and callsigns.
Masterlist | Sneak Peek | Chapter 1
Tumblr media
In the room with Cyclone and Warlock, Maverick looked at the screen and saw 2 very familiar faces. Cyclone looked at Maverick and asked, “Is there a problem, Captain?” Maverick looks at him, “You know there is sir.” Cyclone signed and zoomed in on your picture, “Lieutenant Mitchell, callsign Mel, one of the best pilots I have seen in years. She was top of her class. Two confirmed air-to-air kills. You must be very proud. Captain.” Maverick smiles, “I am, sir. I’m proud of her every day.”
Maverick was indeed proud. Starting from the second you were born, he knew you would be a mini him the second he got called for a parent-teacher meeting for you not following directions and being a bit rebellious. There was also the first time he took you on your first little joyride, instead of being scared like  most people that are thousands of feet up in the air going hundreds of miles per hour, you were so excited. You had the time of your life. You especially loved when he did aerobatics. You kept on asking him to do another one, he often wondered how you never got dizzy or felt nauseous. As you grew older, you went on to be just like him.  If not, maybe even a little better. Now here you are, getting called back to Top Gun to be a possible candidate for a special detachment. This isn’t like the past missions you’ve been on. This is life or death. He knows there is a chance someone isn’t coming back.
Cyclone then zoomed in on another person. Rooster. “Bradley Bradshaw aka Rooster. I understand you flew with his old man. What was his call-sign again?” “Goose, sir” “Tragic what happened.” Warlock cuts in defending Maverick. All Maverick could do was nod. Memories of what happened replaying in his mind.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
“Dad?” You saw your dad sitting by the bar alone. You thought he’s in the desert working on the Death Star. Why is he here?  He turned around and you smiled excitedly going over and hugging him as tight as possible. You felt him hug back just as tight. “Hey sweetheart.” You always loved the daddy-daughter hugs. It made you feel safe and relaxed. You haven’t seen him in person in almost a year.
“What are you doing here? I thought you’re supposed to be somewhere in the desert.” You saw the look he gave and you couldn’t help but grin. “You pissed off another admiral, didn’t you?” He chuckled at your response. “You could say that.” You sat next to him. “So… what are you doing here at North Island? Did Uncle Ice tell you I was here?”  You asked him.
“Well uh…. in a manner of speaking.” You noticed the look your dad had. There was worry in his eyes. You hadn’t seen that look in a long time. “You’re here for the detachment… aren’t you? That’s why you’re here.” He gave you a look. You knew the answer. “How bad is it going to be?” You looked to your dad. “I can’t say too much yet, but … this is something no one’s ever seen.” All you could do was nod. Before you can react you felt him rub your shoulders. “It’s going to be okay. I promise. You’re the best fighter pilot I know.” You let out a little chuckle, “don’t let Uncle Ice hear you say that.” You heard him let out some chuckles.
You talked with your dad for a little longer to catch up on everything. He told you that the Kazansky’s invited you both over for dinner tomorrow night. You were excited, as you have seen your Uncle Ice and Aunt Sarah in a while. You heard your name being called, looking over you saw Jake and Javy calling you over. You heard your dad’s voice, “go on, go catch up with them.” You looked over to him. “Are you sure?” “I’m sure. We have plenty of time to catch up more.” You smiled and hugged him one last time before going over.
“What’s Pops doing here?” Jake asked after pulling you into a hug. You didn’t want to ruin the surprise. “He’s here visiting old friends.” You responded as Javy pulled you in for a side hug.
As you talked, you caught up with Phoenix, you met some new members: Bob, who was so sweet, Payback and Fanboy who both were really nice, although you felt a little competitiveness between them and Jake and Javy. Jake would not stop teasing Bob, you had to nudge him a few times hoping he’d stop messing with the guy.
Maverick watched as his little girl bonded with her teammates. Despite Jake's reputation he trusted him that he wouldn’t leave his daughter behind, but he is unsure if he would do the same for the rest of the team.
You looked over and saw a familiar face entering the Hard Deck. Bradley Bradshaw.
Bradley walked over to the group. “Bradshaw.” “Hangman… you look good” “Well, I am good Rooster, I’m very good. In fact, I’m too good to be true.” Hangman responds, smirking. Bradley then looked over to you. “Mel.” “Rooster.” “Why am I not surprised you’re here?” You rolled your eyes, scoffing at his remark. You knew what he was thinking, he still believed the reason  you made it this far is because of your dad and uncle. “Well who else did you expect?”
Before Bradley could say another word, Jake cuts in, “you’re just jealous Bradshaw, admit it, you will never fly like Mel here. She takes risks unlike a certain someone. She’ll make a great mission leader, but anyone that follows you will just run out of fuel. Waiting for the right moment that never comes.” You felt Jake’s arm snake around your shoulders.
Jake is your best friend, you could say. Sure, during training he would leave his wingman and fly off, but during the missions he was never like that. At least not to you. He saved your  life; that’s how he got his first confirmed air to air kill. If it wasn’t for him, you would not be standing here right now.
Bradley suddenly felt a ping of jealousy growing inside him. Since when were you and Hangman so close? But Bradley being Bradlet, he chose to ignore it. “And anyone that follows you will just end up in a grave.” That ticked you off a little. You wished Jake would let you tell everyone what really happened that day. You don’t get why Jake wants to keep it a secret, he loves to show off. Only a few people know the exact details.
“They’re on me! I can’t shake them!” you said with a panicking voice. With an enemy aircraft chasing after you at full speed. Trying different maneuvers, you dodged as many bullets that you could. That’s when you heard a beeping sound; the enemy got a lock on you. Just as  you started accepting your fate, there was an explosion sound. You looked over and saw the enemy fighter jet blowing up into pieces. “You owe me a drink, Mel.” Y/N looked over and saw Hangman giving her a grin. He just saved your life, for once not living up to his callsign.
After that, it was Hangman and Mel. Jake and Y/N. You became best friends and each other’s wingperson.
Other than Rear Admiral Jackson, Javy, Maverick and Iceman, no one knew it was Jake that saved you. Jake wanted to keep it a secret. With the help from Iceman, no one knew what really happened. Because the mission only needed 2 pilots, it made it easier to hide the truth.
Maverick was watching the whole scene play out in front of him, feeling the guilt bubble inside him knowing he was the reason his daughter and Bradley are no longer friends. He remembers how close they were as kids, how they never left each other’s side. He hopes this mission will bring them together again.
The night went on, he ended up being broke after not realizing the rules at Penny’s bar. Jake and the others had the joy of “throwing” him out of the bar. You knew it was all fun and games. You knew your dad took a liking to him after he saved your life that day. Even you let out a little laugh watching it all play out.
You heard a familiar tune starting to play in the background, you looked over to the piano and saw Bradley sitting there. The tune that your uncle Goose, Bradley’s dad always plays. You remembered how you and Bradley would sit on the piano with your dad, Uncle Goose and Aunt Carole gathered around singing “Great Balls of Fire” together. Your eyes wandered around and noticed your dad outside staring towards where Bradley is. You knew he misses them too.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
You sat next to Jake and Javy waiting for the debrief to start. You had this feeling that something was going to happen today and it was not the good kind of feeling. You know Bradley will not be happy knowing who the instructor for the detachment is going to be. You also know he will be mad that you didn’t warn him. But he has no right to feel that way. After all, you two were basically on no speaking terms. Cyclone’s voice disrupted your thoughts. “Good morning aviators.”
At morning debriefing, Cyclone and Warlock went over the details of this mission. Just from hearing the details about what is going to happen, you knew this was going to be a detachment like no other. As he introduced who the instructor was going to be, you knew exactly who they were talking about, even though you already found out last night. You only know one person that fits the description so perfectly.
You couldn’t help but look over to Bradley, wondering how he is going to react when he sees your dad. You can see him tense up as he sees your dad walk in. This is going to be a very long day. Bradley made eye contact with you and he was not happy, just as you had predicted minutes ago.  After the debrief, you and everyone else waited to be selected to go up in the air. First ones up were you, Phoenix, Bob, and Rooster.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
As you walked towards your fighter jet when you heard your name being called. “Why didn’t you tell me he was going to be the instructor?” You knew he was going to ask this. “How am I supposed to tell you if all we ever do is argue when we talk?” “Yea, well you’re the one that always starts it” “Are you serious Bradley? Look at us. Besides, would it really make a difference if I did?” “Yea, it actually would have.”
As the training session went on, no one has been able to get a lock on Maverick. not even you. You were close but he is always steps ahead. And thanks to the little bet, everyone was punished with 200 pushups.
Now it is time for Phoenix, Bob, Hangman, and Roosters turn. You listened to the radio as Jake asked Bradley some personal questions. There was one secret you never told Jake, it was the exact details about you, your dad, and Bradley. All he knows is you and Bradley had an argument, he left and that was that.
You heard your dad’s voice. Encouraging Bradley to take a little risk instead of playing it safe. Jake’s voice came in warning them about getting below the hard deck level amd telling Rooster to take the shot. Soon through the radio, you head the alerts going off telling them to pull up. You are holding your breath at this point. No matter how upset you were at Bradley, you didn’t want to lose him and your dad.  A few seconds later, you heard your dad’s voice. He got a lock on Bradley. What on earth were they thinking?
--------------------------------------------------------------------
You stormed up to Bradley angry. “What was that Bradshaw?! Are you trying to get kicked out?” “Oh like you care, you probably would love to see me off this mission.” You couldn’t believe what you were hearing. It’s like he never changed. “I worked hard to get here and you know it!” “Well not everyone is lucky enough to have their dad and the Commander of the Pacific Fleet as their teacher!” He snapped back. You froze, not believing the words that just came out of his mouth. Not wanting to continue this anymore, you shook your head and walked away in silence. You knew if you stayed longer, you would end up saying something you’d regret, and possibly escalating the argument.
“Why are you such close friends with Hangman? You know what type of person he is!” You stopped in your tracks. Why did he change the conversation to this? Was he jealous? You turned around facing him once again, letting out your anger. “You’re right, I know what type of person he is. You don’t! You let your judgments get clouded too easily, you’ll just assume the worst in people!” You saw the look Bradley had on his face, hearing him let out a scoff, “all he ever did was leave his wingman behind! Everyone knows that! Why won’t you believe me?!”
You don’t know what came over yourself. You’ve kept it in for years. Coming up with reasons why Bradley cut off contact with you, why he barely said anything to you during your time at Top Gun, why he treated you like you were nothing. He didn’t even believe you told him that you had nothing to do with his application being pulled. And now all of a sudden he cares about who you’re friends with. You knew what Hangman was like to others. That’s just a character he built up; he doesn’t want to seem weak or soft, easy to push around. Sure he messes around during training, but when it comes to the real thing, he takes things seriously.
“You want to know why? Fine. He never left me hanging! He didn’t cut off contact with me for something I didn’t do!  He trusted me! He never assumed I got in just because of my last name! He didn’t hurt me the way you did!”
You were mad at your dad too, especially at first. But after a lot of begging, he finally told you why he pulled Bradley’s application; you understood, it was an extremely difficult decision. Adding on to it, it was his best friend’s dying wish.
You quickly walked away going to the locker rooms. You heard Bradley call out your name, but you chose to ignore it. Today did not turn out the way you had expected. It hasn’t even been 24 hours since the first time you saw Bradley in years and he is still the same.
