“Hey babe, me and the Daggers are heading to the Hard Deck for a couple of drinks. Want to come?” Bradley says in his usual soft tone as he sweeps you up into a hug, holding you close as if he hadn’t seen you in years when in reality he had simply gone upstairs for a few minutes and just returned downstairs.
“If they’re okay with me tagging along.” You say, curling your arms around Bradley and resting your head just above his heart and listening to the gentle thudding of his heartbeat.
“They’re always okay with you coming. If they weren’t, they’d have to deal with me and Mav.” Bradley says, his soft chuckle rumbling against your ear before you lift your head off his chest, laughing to yourself as you visualise your boyfriend and your dad teaming up against all the Daggers. While you were Maverick’s daughter, you weren’t an aviator, instead, you had opted to work in nursing and found yourself working in a hospital local to where your dad and boyfriend worked.
“Guess we’re going to the Hard Deck then.” You say with a soft smile as you look up at Bradley as he looks down at you, leaning down to press the gentlest of kisses against your lips. When you both pull away, Bradley’s phone buzzes and he lets out a soft sigh, pulling it from his pocket and inspecting the text displayed.
“We better get a move on. Apparently, I owe Jake a darts match and I fear that if I don’t show up soon my callsign might change from ‘Rooster’ to ‘Chicken’.” Bradley says with a laugh as you move out of his embrace, laughing as you imagine him being called ‘Chicken’ day in and day out at work.
“Let’s get you down to the Hard Deck then. Can’t have my boyfriend being seen as someone afraid of a darts match against Jake of all people.” You say, patting Bradley’s chest before moving past him to get yourself ready to head to the bar.
When you are ready, you head out of the house with Bradley and get into the passenger seat of his Bronco, smiling as Bradley instinctively rests his free hand on your thigh as he drives, singing along to the radio under his breath as he goes. Eventually, he parks outside the Hard Deck and the two of you get out and head into the bar together.
“Want me to grab you a drink? I’ll be designated driver if you want?” You say, turning to face Bradley almost the moment the two of you entered the bar.
“Are you sure?” Bradley asks, soft enough for the moment to be just between the two of you but loud enough to be heard over the noise of the bar.
“I’m sure. As long as you’re okay with me driving the Bronco of course.” You say with a small smile as Bradley rests a hand on your waist, the other digging in his pocket and holding the Bronco keys between the two of you.
“There’s no one else I’d trust to drive her.” He says, grinning as you take the keys before leaning forward and pressing his lips to yours.
“Bradshaw! Get your ass over here!” You pull away with a giggle at Jake’s voice ringing clearly over the noise of the busy bar and Bradley rolls his eyes.
“He really knows how to pick a time, huh?” Bradley mutters, winding an arm around your waist and guiding you over to the Dagger's usual spot near the pool tables and dart board.
“Hey, you brought y/n!” Jake greets you enthusiastically as the two of you approach, instantly approaching you, arms outstretched for a hug that you’re more than happy to give him, pulling away and greeting the other Daggers with hugs before returning to Bradley’s side.
“Okay, I’m going to grab you a drink now. Beer?” You say to Bradley as he nods.
“That would be great, thank you.” Bradley says gratefully, kissing the top of your head before letting you cross the bar to talk to Penny.
“y/n! How lovely to see you.” Penny greets you happily, smiling as she leans up against the bar to talk to you.
“It’s good to see you too, Penny.” You say, smiling at Penny.
“Beers for you and Bradley?” Penny asks, instinctively reaching down to the fridge that contains the beers you and Bradley like to drink.
“Just one for Bradley. I’ll take a soda.” You say, pulling out your card and handing it to Penny to start a tab just in case you and Bradley wanted more drinks throughout the evening. Penny soon hands you your two drinks and you thank her with a smile before turning and heading back over to Bradley who was standing with Jake near the dart board.
“Here you go.” You say, holding Bradley’s beer out towards him as he takes it gratefully, pressing a soft kiss upon your lips in thanks.
“Get a room you two.” Jake grumbles, plucking the darts from the board and handing some of them to Bradley.
“Just you wait until you get a girlfriend. Then me and Bradley will be saying it to you.” You say with a laugh as Jake rolls his eyes. You then make your way over to Natasha and Bob, sitting with them and making conversation with them as Bradley and Jake play their darts match.
An hour or so later, after Jake and Bradley are finally done with their final match, you get up, excuse yourself to the bathroom and leave the group to their own devices for a few minutes. However, when you return, you can’t say you were impressed with the scene before you.
When you leave the bathroom, shaking the remnants of water off your hands, you see a woman almost draping herself over Bradley who doesn’t look entirely comfortable with her proximity. You could tell he was saying something to her, but you didn’t know what it was. You soon crossed the bar and sidled up alongside Bradley, wrapping your arms around his middle and pressing a soft kiss to his cheek.
“Hey babe. Who’s your friend?” You ask innocently, turning to look at the woman who had at least had the decency to take a step back.
“I’m Mia.” She says, barely giving Bradley a chance to respond, making you fight the urge to roll your eyes.
“Well, nice to meet you, Mia. If you don’t mind, I’d like to spend some time with my boyfriend. It's our first time seeing each other in months. You can understand that, right?” The lie comes quickly and easily to you. You weren’t the biggest fan of sounding possessive over Bradley but after seeing how uncomfortable he had looked you didn’t want this person ever coming near him again. With a huff, Mia rolled her eyes and stalked off. The moment she was out of sight you turned to Bradley.
“I didn’t mean to speak for you. I could tell you weren’t comfortable.” You apologise quickly, stopping only when Bradley kisses you, words catching in your throat.
“Don’t apologise.” Bradley whispers after pulling away enough to speak, lips brushing against yours with every word spoken. You nod your head slightly at his words before pulling away, determined to spend the rest of the evening with your friends and forget about the incident that had happened as you hoped it was a one-time event.
Oh how wrong you were.
Bradley had gone to the Hard Deck a couple of times while you stayed home or had work and each time had come back complaining that Mia had been there and had been completely disregarding his obvious boundaries and ignoring that he had a girlfriend, having been convinced it was a ploy to keep her away, he had told you. Bradley had told you that all of the Daggers had tried to help him keep her away, but she was a lot more persistent than they expected. All you did at the moment was hug Bradley tight, feeling awful that he was going through that without you to help him before you spoke up.
“Next time you go to the Hard Deck, I’m coming with you.”
True to your word, the next time Bradley and the Daggers organised a time to go to the Hard Deck, you made sure you were free to accompany Bradley. The two of you arrived at the Hard Deck, walking in hand in hand as your eyes immediately scoured the bar looking for Mia, letting out a small, satisfied sigh when you couldn’t see her. Maybe she’d gotten the hint after all, so you allowed yourself to relax as you crossed to the Daggers, greeting them all with a smile.
The evening progressed pleasantly, everyone laughing, playing pool, or gossiping about the new Top Gun recruits. Then the all-familiar bell rang signalling that someone would be paying for a round for everyone in the bar.
“I’m going to grab us all a drink.” You say, instantly excusing yourself to grab a drink for yourself and all your friends.
When you returned to the group, Mia was there. She had apparently escaped your skimmed searches of the bar and snuck in the moment you moved away from Bradley. You approached the table Mickey and Javy were sitting at and placed the tray down, immediately turning around and approaching her.
“Excuse me, I was very polite the first time that we met but I don’t appreciate that you keep trying to force yourself on my boyfriend and make him uncomfortable. Please leave him alone.” You say, firmness sneaking into your voice as you position yourself next to Bradley, noticing how all the Daggers immediately have their attention on you, ready to step in if needed.
“You’re clearly lying to yourself if you think that he could ever be your boyfriend. He’s way out of your league and much better suited to be dating someone like me. Besides it’s not like he was saying no.” Mia says with a snarky tone as she folds her arms across her chest, raising an eyebrow as she looks you up and down.
“He wasn’t saying anything! Isn’t that enough of a hint for you?!” You cry out, growing more enraged when Mia just shrugs.
“I can tell when men like what I’m doing. Besides, men never say no. I know it can be hard to accept but sometimes men prefer people like me over people like you.” Mia’s chosen words enraged you so much that you did something you never thought you’d be capable of doing.
You punched her.
You would’ve regretted it had Mia not attacked you back. She practically pushed you to the floor and you were quick to drag her down with you, pinning her to the floor and just giving her hell. You couldn’t even recall what you were doing, you were just so blinded by your rage and this woman’s audacity. You kept throwing punches and slaps, as did Mia, a fair few coming into contact with you until you felt two muscular arms wrap around your middle and drag you off Mia and the moment you were clear, you were vaguely aware of Jake and Reuben stepping in between you and Mia as a barrier.
“y/n, honey, you need to calm down.” Bradley’s soothing, gentle voice whispers in your ear as he hauls you away from the chaos and holds you carefully in place, his eyes shining with worry as Natasha appears alongside him while Bob rushes to fill Penny in on what happened. Bradley guides you to the bar, sitting you on one of the stools while Natasha follows Penny to get you an ice pack. The second Natasha returns, Bradley takes the ice pack and holds it near your eye where he could tell a bruise was already beginning to form. You could hear Penny calling for Mia to be escorted out and given a ban from the Hard Deck and all you could think about was how grateful you were that she wouldn’t be around to bother Bradley anymore.
“I appreciate you defending me, y/n but you didn’t need to do this. You’re hurt.” Bradley mutters, eyes scanning you for any more injuries while he holds the ice pack in place.
“I couldn’t let her treat you like that. I just snapped.” You admit, looking up and making eye contact with the man you love.
“It happens to the best of us. I bet Mav’s done something like that before, it’ll be where you got that from.” Bradley says, smiling lightly as he changes the subject to bring a smile to your face which he was successful in doing.
“There’s no way dad hasn’t punched someone in the defence of someone he loves.” You giggle, wincing lightly when Bradley applies a little bit more pressure accidentally to the tender area, which of course makes him apologise instantly.
“I have to admit. It was really attractive seeing you defend me like that.” Bradley muses, moving the ice pack away from your eye and setting it on the countertop.
“Really?” You ask, feeling your face heat up at his words.
“Really. No one’s ever defended me like that before. It just means a lot more because it’s you.” Bradley says softly, cupping your face softly and leaning in until his lips meet yours, the kiss alone conveying everything Bradley needed to say. You both pull away when you hear the Daggers calling for both you and Bradley and you laugh as you glance from them to Bradley who lets out a soft chuckle and shakes his head.
“I think we should head over so you can talk to your fans, huh?”

A/N: after going back and forth with @multifandomlover4life, @justabigassnerd, and @maverick-wingman about how to do write this, this is what my mind came up with at 12 AM. I hope you enjoy!
Tumblr media
Every spring Jake, Bradley, and Y/N do a little bit of summer cleaning and changing winter clothes out for summer clothes and it never fails. They would have all of The Daggers over and they would help out claiming they have nothing better to do but in reality, they don’t want to do it at their houses. Nothing exciting ever was found expect on this one fateful spring afternoon. Everyone’s lives changed especially Jake’s, Bradley’s, and Bob’s. Nobody knew how to react especially not the fathers of the two 18-year-olds that had just finished their senior year of high school.
******************************************
It was a Friday night when The Daggers were at The Hard Deck having a couple of drinks after having ended a pretty successful work day. It wasn’t that terribly crowded in the bar that had become a regular part of their lives. Everyone was feeling pretty good about how the day of teaching the new Top Gun cadets. The subject of cleaning came up and how everyone needed to do it.
“Since everyone doesn’t want to clean their own houses. Why don’t you come and help us with ours? Ever since we moved to the bigger place, we have found it harder for us three to clean it.” Bradley said and everyone thought about it.
“I’ll be there.” Bob said. Ever since Bob’s son and Y/N started dating Jake, Bradley, and Bob had started to hang out a lot more. They had already hung out while at work and were already close but this just made them closer.
“I would love to.” Nat said and then everyone else agreed. Goose, Carole, Maverick, and Ice would have agreed to help but they had already had plans that they absolutely needed to get done.
“How is Y/N and Mason doing?” Javy asked the parents of the two kids.
“They’re doing good. They’re together pretty much every day.” Jake said
“They’re a perfect couple.” Mickey said and everyone smiled and agreed with him. They loved the kids and they all had a part of raising the two kids and they loved them dearly. They had no idea what they were dealing with at home right now however.
******************************************
Mason was holding a crying Y/N on the bathroom floor against the tub. The tears were one of shock and being scared. She loved the thought of having kids with Mason someday and maybe now was too early but they loved each other and Mason was not going anywhere anytime soon. She wouldn’t be giving this kid up or aborting it she wouldn’t have the heart to do it. Mason was scared as well but he too wanted kids with her.
Y/N had been feeling sick the past few mornings and she didn’t know why and it was concerning her. She brought this up to Mason and he was concerned for his girlfriend so he had suggested to get a pregnancy test and she agreed. When he was coming over, he stopped at the drug store and bought a couple of tests and headed over to her house. They were going to be alone due to The Daggers having their night out after work.
When Mason got there, they immediately went to her room and into her connected bathroom. Jake, Bradley, and Bob were ok with leaving them alone because they trusted their kids. They raised them to be good kids. When the topic of sex came up, they sat them down and gave them the talk and told them to be safe. Y/N took the tests and waited the required time for them to be done they began to talk, once she allowed him into the bathroom.
“What if I am pregnant?” She asked her boyfriend of 3 years going on 4.
“Then we’ll get through it. You’re going to be a great mom.” He said and smiled and she smiled back. He always knew the right things to say, he must get that from Bob.
“You’re going to be a great dad.” She said to him and he smiled and kissed her. When they broke apart the timer had gone off and she took a breath and walked over to them and looked at them and began to cry. She would’ve collapsed on the ground it if weren’t for Mason catching her and bringing her down to the floor. She crawled over to the tub and leaned against it clutching the tests.
“What is it baby?” Mason asked her and she showed him the tests and he looked at them as she began to speak.
“I’m pregnant.” She said
“That’s great Baby. Unexpected yes but its great.” He said trying to cheer her up.
“I’m scared Mason.” She told and he nodded and held her tighter.
“I’m scared to but we’ll get through this.” He said to her and kissed the top of her head and then rested his chin on top of it.
“How did this happen? We were safe.” Y/N said and he nodded.
“I know Baby.” He said as she sniffled and he hugged her tighter. “Wait, the condom broke. Remember? We talked about it.” He said realization coming to his face and then her’s. The condom had broken after having slow passionate sex after graduation. After he had taken it off, he saw the tear and alerted his girlfriend. They both said that they would wait a few days and then see if something happened. That was a week ago.
“What are we going to tell our parents? I don’t want to abort it or give it up” She asked him.
“We’ll find a way and the right time. I’m with you every step of the way. I want this baby too but will support whatever decision you make. It’s late. Let’s go to bed yea?” Mason asked and she nodded and cried harder. She buried the tests deep into the trash and they got ready for bed in silence. Mason held her while she cried herself to sleep and once he knew that she was asleep he went to sleep.
When Jake and Bradley got home, they weren’t surprised to Mason’s truck there. He was either over at their house or Y/N was over at Mason’s house. It was a normal now. Jake and Bradley quietly walked into the house to find it silent but then again it was late at night. They walked upstairs and checked in on them and smiled to find them curled up with each other sound asleep. They left them alone and then got ready themselves for bed and were mentally preparing for the day ahead of them.
******************************************
The next morning Bradley and Jake were up before the Y/N and Mason getting breakfast ready and some of The Daggers were coming over for breakfast as well. The smell of bacon and pancakes woke Mason and Y/N up and they groggily headed downstairs to be greeted by the earliest risers that they had seen.
“Morning Pops and Dad.” Y/N said and walked over and greeted them with a kiss on their cheeks.
“Good morning, Bradley and Jake.” Mason said now on a first name basis with them after they repeatedly told him to call them by their first names.
“Good morning, Sweets and Mason.” Jake said
“Good morning, guys. How did you sleep?” Bradley asked handing them both a plate of food.
“We slept good.” Y/N said and Mason nodded in agreement.
“That’s great. Hey, we have The Daggers coming over to help with some summer cleaning. You’re welcome to help.” Bradley said
“We actually planned on going to see a moive this morning but we can bring lunch back and help afterwards.” Y/N said and they nodded.
“That’s perfectly fine. Let us know when you’re coming back and we’ll tell you what we decide on.” Jake said and smiled at them as the doorbell rang and Bradley went to open it. The first one to arrive was Bob, he walked in and greeted Bradley and then went into the kitchen and saw his son, Y/N, and Jake. Jake turned around when he heard footsteps.
“Hey, Bob!” Jake exclaimed and then went back to cooking breakfast.
“Hey, Jake.” Bob said taking the plate of food that Bradley gave to him. Then he went and sat down next to his son and his girlfriend. “Good morning, Y/N and Mason.” He said turning his attention to the couple.
“Good morning, Bob.” Y/N said taking a bite of her breakfast.
“Good morning, Dad.” Mason said to his father at the same time as Y/N said her good morning.
“Are you two going to be helping out today?” Bob asked as he took a bite of his food and Y/N shook her head.
“No, we had already planned on doing something this morning but I told Pops and Dad that we could pick up lunch and help out with the rest of the day.” Y/N said and he nodded.
“What do you have planned?” He asked
“There is a movie that we both wanted to see and we had already bought tickets. I didn’t think Dad and Pops would be cleaning today.” Y/N said feeling a little guilty.
“Honey, it’s ok. Go to the movie and plan out what we talked about.” Bradley said walking over with his plate and sitting down and the doorbell rang and Jake went to open it. Greetings were heard and then The Daggers walked in. Everyone greeted each other and Mason and Y/N were off to their movie.
******************************************
The Daggers got to work after cleaning the table but not before they decided on what they wanted to eat for lunch and then Bradley texted Y/N. When something that looked important came up, they would go to Bradley or Jake to ask them if it was important. They cleaned all the rooms and did the showers, sinks, and toilets. Nothing too interesting was found throughout the house that is until Natasha got to Y/N’s bathroom she had volunteered to clean her room and her bathroom since she was female and Y/N trusted her, yes, she trusted her fathers but when it comes to female things, she trusted Nat.
Natasha had just gotten to the bathroom Javy had joined her. As she was going to get the trash the garbage can hit the corner of the counter and the contents spilled. Nothing that would scar Javy was in there but something caught her eye. Two positive pregnancy tests. She cleaned up the trash and then set the garbage can down. She slowly picked the tests up and was glad they were capped and looked at them. She and Javy had been talking and when she stopped talking, he turned and looked at her.
“Is that what I think it is?” Javy asked coming over to inspect the tests and Nat nodded her head.
“Yup, Bob, Jake, and Bradley are going to become grandparents.” Natasha said
“Should we go and tell the future grandparents?” Javy asked
“It’s not our place to tell but they need to know what we found.” Natasha said and he nodded. Before they could leave the bathroom, Jake had come in.
“Hey Nat- “He began but stopped when he saw what she was holding. Jake’s face went through so many emotions that Javy and Nat didn’t know if it was possible to do so. “Is that what I think it is?” He asked hoping it was a joke.
“Jake- “Javy said and Jake laughed.
“Good joke guys. Really good a positive pregnancy test. You had me there for a moment.” He said but when they didn’t laugh, he stopped laughing and turned serious to raging father in just a few seconds that it actually scared Javy and Nat. “Bradley! Get your ass in here!” Jake yelled out and, in a few seconds, he was in his daughter’s bedroom where he saw a furious Jake, and an unreadable emotion of Javy and Natasha. Then he saw the pregnancy tests.
“Jake.” Bradley said slowly. Jake turned towards his husband.
“Our little girl is pregnant.” Jake said furiously.
“We don’t know that.” Bradley said “It could be someone else. Maybe a friend.” Bradley said trying to reason with his outraged husband.
“She would’ve told us if it was one of her friends. She also would’ve told us if it was hers.” Jake said practically seething. “We’ve told her she could come to us if something was up. We raised her that way.” He said and Bradley nodded.
When they heard Mason’s truck pull into the driveway Jake was already rushing downstairs to meet the 18-year-old couple. They had just walked into the house with food and she smiled when she saw her Pops, followed by Nat, Javy, and her Dad. But when she saw his face and he wasn’t smiling her face fell. Mason looked at saw the look and grabbed her and pulled her into his side protecting her and their unborn child. Y/N was scared and confused until she saw the pregnancy tests and her face paled and she shrunk into Mason.
“Tell me this is not yours.” Jake said and waved the tests around and she didn’t speak and neither did Mason his face turned beet read. “Robert Floyd!” He yelled and went to where he was and stormed up to him.
“Yes- “He started but didn’t get a chance to say anything because he was thrown into the nearby wall.
“I’m gonna kill you. You know why?” He asked and Bob shook his head too scared to speak. “Because I can’t kill your son because he’s the father of my daughter’s unborn child.” Jake said just as everyone rushed into the guest room.
“Jake, let him go.” Bradley said and was grabbing onto his shoulders
“Pops let him go.” Y/N said and then after a few seconds Bradley pulled him off of Bob but that is only after Y/N said something.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.” Bob said finally finding the strength to talk. Jake then showed him the two positive pregnancy tests and his face fell and he looked over at his son.
“Is this true?” Bob asked Mason and Y/N and they both nodded.
“Yes. We just found out.” Y/N said
“Let’s go in the living room to talk.” Bradley said everyone nodded.
“Javy, Nat, and Ruben let’s stay here and let the parents and kids talk” Mickey said and the rest agreed.
******************************************
When the 5 of them reached the living room the kids sat on the couch and the parents stood in front of them. “Tell us what happened.” Jake asked and they looked at him and he rolled his eyes. “I know how it happened. I want to know how and why it happened.” He explained.
“It was after graduation. We used a condom. We did. But afterwards we found out it broke. That was a week ago. We just thought that we would see what would happen but when I started to get sick and smells bothered me, I had Mason get pregnancy tests before he came over last night. We officially found out last night.” Y/N explained and she looked down and tears began to fall. “I’m sorry Pops, Dad, and Bob. We didn’t mean for this to happen.” She spoke.
“We really didn’t but we talked and we both want to keep this baby.” Mason added and everyone was silent.
“Are you absolutely sure with this decision?” Bob asked the both of them and they nodded.
“Dad, I love her and want to marry her. I want to have kids with her.” Mason said whole heartedly. Y/N looked at him with tears in her eyes, they talked about kids but not marriage and she felt the exact same way. Bardley, Jake, and Bob looked at him and they could tell he was serious.
“You really mean that?” Y/N asked him and he turned to look at her and nodded.
“Every word of it.” He said and Y/N crashed her lips onto his and they only broke apart when Jake cleared his throat and they turned to look at their parents.
“Even though we’re not thrilled about the situation of how it happened or the timing. We are happy for both of you and will support you both all the way. All three of us love you. You both can come to us at any time. Now come here and give us a hug.” Bradley said and Mason and Y/N did just that.
“We love you three so much.” Y/N said and then The Daggers came out of the room having heard the conversation end. They broke apart and looked at them.
“I take it you heard?” Y/N asked and everyone nodded and said their congratulations to both the couple and the parents and hugs went around. “I’m hungry. Let’s eat.” She said and they laughed she was like that to begin with, she got that from both Jake and Bradley.
“Wait until your grandparents find out that they're going to be great-grandparents.” Jake said as they began to eat and everyone chuckled. Everyone but Mason and Y/N that is instead they looked at each other they hadn't thought of telling them. It was definitely going to be interesting, that’s for sure.

Broken Skies (Bradley Bradshaw x Mitchell! Reader) Chapter 1
Note: I apologize for the long long wait. I was really lacking motivation and just on a long writer's block for the past few months. But here is Chapter 1 for Broken Skies. The Sneak Peak is linked below for those that have not read it yet. And also thank you @justabigassnerd and @callsign-dexter for motivating me to write more! ❤️
This is a redo of my Bradley Bradshaw Part 1. This is more of a prequel rather than a sneak peek this time. Mel - “one who is fearless and daring.” Canon characters are out of character. Iceman will be healthy in this fic.
Warnings: Nothing big, maybe angst, other than a brief mention of death, and military inaccuracies. NOT grammar/spelling checked. Some switching between first names and callsigns.
Masterlist | Sneak Peek | Chapter 1
Tumblr media
In the room with Cyclone and Warlock, Maverick looked at the screen and saw 2 very familiar faces. Cyclone looked at Maverick and asked, “Is there a problem, Captain?” Maverick looks at him, “You know there is sir.” Cyclone signed and zoomed in on your picture, “Lieutenant Mitchell, callsign Mel, one of the best pilots I have seen in years. She was top of her class. Two confirmed air-to-air kills. You must be very proud. Captain.” Maverick smiles, “I am, sir. I’m proud of her every day.”
Maverick was indeed proud. Starting from the second you were born, he knew you would be a mini him the second he got called for a parent-teacher meeting for you not following directions and being a bit rebellious. There was also the first time he took you on your first little joyride, instead of being scared like  most people that are thousands of feet up in the air going hundreds of miles per hour, you were so excited. You had the time of your life. You especially loved when he did aerobatics. You kept on asking him to do another one, he often wondered how you never got dizzy or felt nauseous. As you grew older, you went on to be just like him.  If not, maybe even a little better. Now here you are, getting called back to Top Gun to be a possible candidate for a special detachment. This isn’t like the past missions you’ve been on. This is life or death. He knows there is a chance someone isn’t coming back.
Cyclone then zoomed in on another person. Rooster. “Bradley Bradshaw aka Rooster. I understand you flew with his old man. What was his call-sign again?” “Goose, sir” “Tragic what happened.” Warlock cuts in defending Maverick. All Maverick could do was nod. Memories of what happened replaying in his mind.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
“Dad?” You saw your dad sitting by the bar alone. You thought he’s in the desert working on the Death Star. Why is he here?  He turned around and you smiled excitedly going over and hugging him as tight as possible. You felt him hug back just as tight. “Hey sweetheart.” You always loved the daddy-daughter hugs. It made you feel safe and relaxed. You haven’t seen him in person in almost a year.
“What are you doing here? I thought you’re supposed to be somewhere in the desert.” You saw the look he gave and you couldn’t help but grin. “You pissed off another admiral, didn’t you?” He chuckled at your response. “You could say that.” You sat next to him. “So… what are you doing here at North Island? Did Uncle Ice tell you I was here?”  You asked him.
“Well uh…. in a manner of speaking.” You noticed the look your dad had. There was worry in his eyes. You hadn’t seen that look in a long time. “You’re here for the detachment… aren’t you? That’s why you’re here.” He gave you a look. You knew the answer. “How bad is it going to be?” You looked to your dad. “I can’t say too much yet, but … this is something no one’s ever seen.” All you could do was nod. Before you can react you felt him rub your shoulders. “It’s going to be okay. I promise. You’re the best fighter pilot I know.” You let out a little chuckle, “don’t let Uncle Ice hear you say that.” You heard him let out some chuckles.
You talked with your dad for a little longer to catch up on everything. He told you that the Kazansky’s invited you both over for dinner tomorrow night. You were excited, as you have seen your Uncle Ice and Aunt Sarah in a while. You heard your name being called, looking over you saw Jake and Javy calling you over. You heard your dad’s voice, “go on, go catch up with them.” You looked over to him. “Are you sure?” “I’m sure. We have plenty of time to catch up more.” You smiled and hugged him one last time before going over.
“What’s Pops doing here?” Jake asked after pulling you into a hug. You didn’t want to ruin the surprise. “He’s here visiting old friends.” You responded as Javy pulled you in for a side hug.
As you talked, you caught up with Phoenix, you met some new members: Bob, who was so sweet, Payback and Fanboy who both were really nice, although you felt a little competitiveness between them and Jake and Javy. Jake would not stop teasing Bob, you had to nudge him a few times hoping he’d stop messing with the guy.
Maverick watched as his little girl bonded with her teammates. Despite Jake's reputation he trusted him that he wouldn’t leave his daughter behind, but he is unsure if he would do the same for the rest of the team.
You looked over and saw a familiar face entering the Hard Deck. Bradley Bradshaw.
Bradley walked over to the group. “Bradshaw.” “Hangman… you look good” “Well, I am good Rooster, I’m very good. In fact, I’m too good to be true.” Hangman responds, smirking. Bradley then looked over to you. “Mel.” “Rooster.” “Why am I not surprised you’re here?” You rolled your eyes, scoffing at his remark. You knew what he was thinking, he still believed the reason  you made it this far is because of your dad and uncle. “Well who else did you expect?”
Before Bradley could say another word, Jake cuts in, “you’re just jealous Bradshaw, admit it, you will never fly like Mel here. She takes risks unlike a certain someone. She’ll make a great mission leader, but anyone that follows you will just run out of fuel. Waiting for the right moment that never comes.” You felt Jake’s arm snake around your shoulders.
Jake is your best friend, you could say. Sure, during training he would leave his wingman and fly off, but during the missions he was never like that. At least not to you. He saved your  life; that’s how he got his first confirmed air to air kill. If it wasn’t for him, you would not be standing here right now.
Bradley suddenly felt a ping of jealousy growing inside him. Since when were you and Hangman so close? But Bradley being Bradlet, he chose to ignore it. “And anyone that follows you will just end up in a grave.” That ticked you off a little. You wished Jake would let you tell everyone what really happened that day. You don’t get why Jake wants to keep it a secret, he loves to show off. Only a few people know the exact details.
“They’re on me! I can’t shake them!” you said with a panicking voice. With an enemy aircraft chasing after you at full speed. Trying different maneuvers, you dodged as many bullets that you could. That’s when you heard a beeping sound; the enemy got a lock on you. Just as  you started accepting your fate, there was an explosion sound. You looked over and saw the enemy fighter jet blowing up into pieces. “You owe me a drink, Mel.” Y/N looked over and saw Hangman giving her a grin. He just saved your life, for once not living up to his callsign.
After that, it was Hangman and Mel. Jake and Y/N. You became best friends and each other’s wingperson.
Other than Rear Admiral Jackson, Javy, Maverick and Iceman, no one knew it was Jake that saved you. Jake wanted to keep it a secret. With the help from Iceman, no one knew what really happened. Because the mission only needed 2 pilots, it made it easier to hide the truth.
Maverick was watching the whole scene play out in front of him, feeling the guilt bubble inside him knowing he was the reason his daughter and Bradley are no longer friends. He remembers how close they were as kids, how they never left each other’s side. He hopes this mission will bring them together again.
The night went on, he ended up being broke after not realizing the rules at Penny’s bar. Jake and the others had the joy of “throwing” him out of the bar. You knew it was all fun and games. You knew your dad took a liking to him after he saved your life that day. Even you let out a little laugh watching it all play out.
You heard a familiar tune starting to play in the background, you looked over to the piano and saw Bradley sitting there. The tune that your uncle Goose, Bradley’s dad always plays. You remembered how you and Bradley would sit on the piano with your dad, Uncle Goose and Aunt Carole gathered around singing “Great Balls of Fire” together. Your eyes wandered around and noticed your dad outside staring towards where Bradley is. You knew he misses them too.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
You sat next to Jake and Javy waiting for the debrief to start. You had this feeling that something was going to happen today and it was not the good kind of feeling. You know Bradley will not be happy knowing who the instructor for the detachment is going to be. You also know he will be mad that you didn’t warn him. But he has no right to feel that way. After all, you two were basically on no speaking terms. Cyclone’s voice disrupted your thoughts. “Good morning aviators.”
At morning debriefing, Cyclone and Warlock went over the details of this mission. Just from hearing the details about what is going to happen, you knew this was going to be a detachment like no other. As he introduced who the instructor was going to be, you knew exactly who they were talking about, even though you already found out last night. You only know one person that fits the description so perfectly.
You couldn’t help but look over to Bradley, wondering how he is going to react when he sees your dad. You can see him tense up as he sees your dad walk in. This is going to be a very long day. Bradley made eye contact with you and he was not happy, just as you had predicted minutes ago.  After the debrief, you and everyone else waited to be selected to go up in the air. First ones up were you, Phoenix, Bob, and Rooster.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
As you walked towards your fighter jet when you heard your name being called. “Why didn’t you tell me he was going to be the instructor?” You knew he was going to ask this. “How am I supposed to tell you if all we ever do is argue when we talk?” “Yea, well you’re the one that always starts it” “Are you serious Bradley? Look at us. Besides, would it really make a difference if I did?” “Yea, it actually would have.”
As the training session went on, no one has been able to get a lock on Maverick. not even you. You were close but he is always steps ahead. And thanks to the little bet, everyone was punished with 200 pushups.
Now it is time for Phoenix, Bob, Hangman, and Roosters turn. You listened to the radio as Jake asked Bradley some personal questions. There was one secret you never told Jake, it was the exact details about you, your dad, and Bradley. All he knows is you and Bradley had an argument, he left and that was that.
You heard your dad’s voice. Encouraging Bradley to take a little risk instead of playing it safe. Jake’s voice came in warning them about getting below the hard deck level amd telling Rooster to take the shot. Soon through the radio, you head the alerts going off telling them to pull up. You are holding your breath at this point. No matter how upset you were at Bradley, you didn’t want to lose him and your dad.  A few seconds later, you heard your dad’s voice. He got a lock on Bradley. What on earth were they thinking?
--------------------------------------------------------------------
You stormed up to Bradley angry. “What was that Bradshaw?! Are you trying to get kicked out?” “Oh like you care, you probably would love to see me off this mission.” You couldn’t believe what you were hearing. It’s like he never changed. “I worked hard to get here and you know it!” “Well not everyone is lucky enough to have their dad and the Commander of the Pacific Fleet as their teacher!” He snapped back. You froze, not believing the words that just came out of his mouth. Not wanting to continue this anymore, you shook your head and walked away in silence. You knew if you stayed longer, you would end up saying something you’d regret, and possibly escalating the argument.
“Why are you such close friends with Hangman? You know what type of person he is!” You stopped in your tracks. Why did he change the conversation to this? Was he jealous? You turned around facing him once again, letting out your anger. “You’re right, I know what type of person he is. You don’t! You let your judgments get clouded too easily, you’ll just assume the worst in people!” You saw the look Bradley had on his face, hearing him let out a scoff, “all he ever did was leave his wingman behind! Everyone knows that! Why won’t you believe me?!”
You don’t know what came over yourself. You’ve kept it in for years. Coming up with reasons why Bradley cut off contact with you, why he barely said anything to you during your time at Top Gun, why he treated you like you were nothing. He didn’t even believe you told him that you had nothing to do with his application being pulled. And now all of a sudden he cares about who you’re friends with. You knew what Hangman was like to others. That’s just a character he built up; he doesn’t want to seem weak or soft, easy to push around. Sure he messes around during training, but when it comes to the real thing, he takes things seriously.
“You want to know why? Fine. He never left me hanging! He didn’t cut off contact with me for something I didn’t do!  He trusted me! He never assumed I got in just because of my last name! He didn’t hurt me the way you did!”
You were mad at your dad too, especially at first. But after a lot of begging, he finally told you why he pulled Bradley’s application; you understood, it was an extremely difficult decision. Adding on to it, it was his best friend’s dying wish.
You quickly walked away going to the locker rooms. You heard Bradley call out your name, but you chose to ignore it. Today did not turn out the way you had expected. It hasn’t even been 24 hours since the first time you saw Bradley in years and he is still the same.

Two Lines
Tumblr media
Ilsa discovers life changing information but dealing with Lane again will have to come first …
Posted on ao3 - kit_kat_27
Thank you sooooo much to @justabigassnerd for putting up with me for the last couple of months while I’ve been writing. Couldn’t have done it without your support!
It will becoming a series hopefully (comment if you want on the taglist)
Please let me know what you guys think. I’ve not done a lot of romance and haven’t written for about 2 yrs so I’m a bit rusty. This is my first fic in this fandom, it’s one of the longest I’ve written and one of my first fight scenes. Ignore grammar and spelling mistakes. This will be posted on ao3 too !
Two lines. Two definite pink lines. Two lines blink back at her confirming her suspicions. Two lines that will now change her life from this exact moment.
Two lines that couldn't be erased. Lines that confirm her body was right. All the signs that she had been dodging confirmed her fears.
Fingers grazed against her abdomen, as if her fingers were scared if they lingered too long it would confirm her fears.
This had been at the bottom of her list, hell after being with the syndicate for two years it had been erased from it. And for finding out, a derelict safe house in rural Denmark was not the scenario she had thought of many years ago.
She had snagged the test the other week and let it burn a hole in her bag until she was going to pop under the pressure.
She'd finally given in to the pressure at the safehouse with the safety of knowing the boys wouldn't be back for another couple of hours.
But now she wasn’t sure what to do, sitting in the bathroom staring at the two pink lines. For once in her life she didn't have the next step already planned. She wasn’t sure how long she had been sitting there as the sounds of the boys inthe driveway indicated their return.
Not wanting Ethan to find out yet, she needed to wrap her brain around it first, she shoved the test down into the depths of her bag where she hoped it would stay hidden until she was ready to tell.
‐—--------------‐—-----------------
Solomon Lane was a name that kept appearing, though all four wished it didn't. Every time they thought they were done he would reappear.
And so they were, here again, staring at the computer each wishing that if the computer was closed and reopened it would be gone, and they could go back to chilling in their safe house.
But alas, they did. Brandt, who now made secretary, had sent them an email after word had gotten out that Lane had escaped Alana's grip and had not been handed over to MI6.
Nobody knew if either Alanna or the Mi6 had played a part in his escape. You can only trust a broker so much, Alanna would always think of herself no matter what she had promised.
But the wind was that he had escaped to Europe where some of his still, somehow, loyal followers remained. The organization was heading to a remote village in Kashmir threatening to release a nuclear bomb that would starve a third of the world's population.
Brandt was warning them to take these hints about Lane with a pinch of salt as it wasn't said who had given them this information and to approach the entire case with caution.
She was going to have to put telling Ethan, he would end the mission before it even started if she told him now the news on the back burner for now. If Lane found out they were carrying new information he wouldn't stop till he found.
————————————-
They split up once they reached the camp, Lane would stand out like a sore thumb in the remote village.
Ethan and Luther took to the nearby medical camp, leaving Benji and Ilsa to tackle the village. Ethan and Ilsa didn’t want to split, they worked better together but Lane would be wanting them to be together.
Once they reached the village, they split again to cover more ground while keeping each other in sight. Well, it was more Ilsa keeping an eye on Benji as she was concerned about Benji running into Lane alone again.
She knew he’d passed field tests and could hold his own, but he didn’t have the same skills or experience. She and Ethan had an unspoken agreement that they’d always put themselves in the firing line before Luther and Benji.
Making her way around the village, she did her best to stay under the radar. Lane had predicated all their movements but she had wanted to at least try to be in front. Out of the main village, on the outskirts, a lone house stood. Void of any women or children hanging outside, drawing her to it.
‘Benji, I may have a lead, stay close by and on comms. We'll draw attention if we both go ‘
Her fellow brit already began to panic at her evading the laid out plan, ‘‘Ilsa, you know what etha-’
‘Stay close by, I need to do this’ and with that, she blocked out the following Benji ramble.
Nothing on the outside balcony gave any clues to Lane. Pausing at the bottom of the steps, she could hear Benji arguing in her ear and threatening to switch on Ethan’s earpiece knowing he would stop this.
But she wanted to, no she needed to take on Lane herself.
She needed to find some form of closure from the years she worked in the syndicate, and the pain and torture he put her friends through.
Some closure for the nights she woke up screaming. All the years by herself, all the years alone, he needed to repay.
She made her way into the house. with each step she took her mind was on overdrive, her eyes darting back and forth making sure her six was covered.
Training would tell her that walking through an open door is a trap. Sweeping the first room, there was nothing in the house that wasn't covered in dust or had seen better days.
A blur of movement occurred in her peripheral vision of a figure moving to another room. Mentally apologizing to Ethan and the boys she followed.
The room was the same as the last a movement attracting her to a darkened section of the room causing her to turn aro-
A blinding pain across the back of her skull turned her vision white.
With the back of her head throbbing leaving her frozen, another blow to her lower back dropped her to the ground, the world turning black.
—---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
‘Ilsa, Ilsa. I know you can hear me. I'm a second away from calling Ethan’. This wasn't a good idea.
‘Ilsa you better respond’
Why couldn't Luther have gone with Ilsa, she listened to him the most. Luther was the only one who sometimes could reign her in these situations.
Ilsa’s tracker showed her around the edge of the village, where Lane would want her. He would know she would split from the group and that she would tackle him alone. Pulling out his phone he sent a message to Luther, warning of his worries without alerting Ethan.
He readied his gun as he spotted the lonely house in front of him. Why could the bad guys never be sitting in a coffee shop ready to hand themselves over after grabbing a latte?
Silence. The house was empty. 2 spies would be quiet but shouldn’t be completely silent.
Sweeping all the rooms in the house, the worry grew with every increasing minute he spent with no sign of Ilsa or Lane.
‘ Ilsa, Ilsa are you i-’, blood.
Blood. Ilsa’s gun.
Blood, a lot of blood for a spy who was the best of the best.
‘ Benji, where are you?’, shit Ethan.
‘ The house at the end of the village, Ilsa spotted Lane here and went after him. She’s-’, doing this over comms would be easier than face to face, ‘she’s not here Ethan. Lane has her, she's injured’
Ethan never panicked but he’d never had someone like Ilsa in his life before.
The one warning he had given to the team was to not take Lane on alone, especially Ilsa. She had failed tests towards the end of her undercover stint. She wouldn't be lucky the next time she ran into Lane alone.
Lane and Ilsa were stubborn and hot-headed, with an intense hatred for each other, what would happen when the two were reunited Ethan didn't want to know.
In the safe house in Denmark she had acted a little off, an unknown fear had flickered across her face when their time off in Denmark was being cut short.
Benji was waiting for them on the porch of the house, panic written over his face. He didn't waste time looking in the house, no point subjecting his heart to what she had gone through.
Circling the house there was almost nothing to go on until he came across faint footsteps leading away from the home to some soft tire tracks in the distance.
There were only 2 sets of prints, both too big for Ilsa. Lane had a plan in mind for another location. She would be no match for him unconscious and drugged. Luther and Benji hung back letting him decide on what to do next.
The tracks led deep into the mountains. Wasting no time in telling the other two what or where he was going, he began sprinting back to where they had left the car at the medical camp,
‘I’ll get you two as I come past’
----------------------------------------------
A pounding pain pulsed at the back of her head. The first effort in opening her eyes sent a shockwave of pain around her skull. The second she managed to open them she noticed a figure sitting in front of her.
‘Nice of you to finally join me’. The figure chuckled, ‘It took a large amount of drugs to keep you knocked out. I trained you well.’
Lane.
A haggard version of the man she spent 2 years doing every bidding.
‘We’re owed a reunion and a rematch don't we, my dear Ilsa’. He took her face in his hands his callused hands tightening around her jaw, smirking she was putty in his hands.
‘You're not speaking my dear? I thought you'd have plenty to say to me’.
Heading towards the open door he turned at the doorway, ‘I'm gonna give you time to think until that pretty boyfriend of yours figures out where we are. Then I’ll be a man and kill you myself.’
Taking notice of her current predicament, she noted her ankles and wrists were bound tight, sores already forming.
As she was deciding on whether to dislocate her thumb, her wrist snagged on a sharp edge on the back of the chair. All the spy movies loved this cliché and for once she was glad it was happening.
She had to work fast, not knowing when Lane would come back into the hut. Her wrists released themselves from their binding, she immediately worked on releasing her legs fingernails beginning to bleed at the frantic speed at which she was working.
Click.
A loaded gun. The cold metal was placed against her forehead ‘My sweet Ilsa, I always am shown why Atlee chose you. You never disappoint’
Glancing upwards, she met Lane's eyes his gaze cold but joyful. He loved getting a rise out of those who crossed him.
‘I'm glad’
Neither of them moved both poised, when all of a sudden it was like a bullet had been fired and the fight began.
Drawing a knife from her boot, she lunged for Lane whilst grabbing his gun with the other hand. Knocking him backwards from the force of her attack, the gun falling from his grasp.
Swiping her blade aiming for his throat but taking any damage that would occur. The surprise of her attack quickly wore off, Lane began to block her attempts with his own.
A fist collided with her cheek and knocked her back a step. Another landing on her ribs sent an alarming crunch throughout the room.
She folded in on herself, exaggerating her pain from the broken ribs, waiting until he was close enough till she could grab a hold of his arm and use his momentum to flip him over her back.
Before Lane had a chance to react she threw herself on top of him wrapping her hands around his throat and applying all the pressure she could.
He scrambled underneath, fear in his eyes at the strength of her attack, attempting to rip her hands off him. She was squeezing with all her might but her power was in using her thighs to choke. Lane knew her inside and out she didn't want to be too predictable.
She was about to change tactics when a hand in her hair dragged her backwards with such force throwing her against the wall of the hut.
Not taking any time to find out who had joined, she kicked out at her attacker's legs. Swiping their feet, toppling them onto a winded Lane giving her the chance to run for it out the open door.
She had no plan but to run as far away as she could, Ethan was bound to be looking for her now. How far she would get she didn’t know, the pounding in her head was beginning to grow and the broken ribs were stealing her ability to breathe.
The sound of a twig snapping alerted her to someone coming up behind her, the drugs were making it harder and harder for her to react. Her body was now just running on pure fear to keep herself alive long enough for Ethan to find her.
Her new companion spun her around, her arms subconsciously wrapped themselves around her stomach, revealing their identity.
‘Trevligt att se dig igen. Du kommer inte bli lika lätt den här gången’.
Viktor. The bone doctor.
He had a talent for evading death. She wanted to either run or fight back but her limbs had suddenly become heavy. All she could do was watch Viktor as he got a firm grip on her arm and he plunged her own knife deep into her shoulder.
‘Karma är en jävel, eller hur? det gör väl ont ?’
All she could do was keep her body upright as he smirked at the blood pooling on her shoulder and grabbed the handle twisting the blade deeper. Blinding pain took over her body as she felt the blade twist deeper, she was not sure how much longer she could hold on.
‘ILSA !!!’, when did Ethan get here? She could barely see his figure moving towards her as her vision began to swim and her body felt like a lead weight as she fell to the ground protecting her stomach.
—-----------------------------------------------------
Pulling up over the top of the mountain, chaos and horror awaited him. Ilsa writhed in the grip of Viktor, his vicelike grip being the only thing that was keeping her upright. She wasnt fighting back, her arms hung loosely at her sides, there was no recognition of her knowing he was there her eyes glassy and unfocused.
The powerful, badass spy he normally knew was not the one he was currently running towards. A breath hair away from reaching Ilsa, her eyes rolled to the back of her head as she dropped to the ground her body curling in on itself. Viktor let go as if she was a discarded ragdoll he no longer wanted to torture.
Resisting running to her side immediately, he focused on Viktor. He wasnt going to let him off lightly this time. He was going to make sure he was dead this time, and let one shot from his gun hit the centre of Viktor's heart dropping the swede instantly.
He didn't want to fight the man, it wasnt worth the risk of getting injured fighting a man double his height. Somehow Lane had slipped away again. Hopefully, for good, Ilsa was on the brink of death and he’d mentally manipulated Ethan, all everything he set out to achieve
The helicopter blades could be heard coming over the mountain top, Benji had mentioned as they drove that Julia was working at the medical camp, he must have sent a call for help as they reached the scene.
He wasn't gonna let go of Ilsa until they pried her out of his hands. Her body felt like glass in his hands, the blood flowing out of the knife wound wasn’t slowing her face getting paler as the seconds went on.
—--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Looking at Ilsa’s results, something was wrong. Ilsa was above peak physical condition, nothing should show up abnormal. All standard tests, which included a pregnancy test for any female regardless, had been run and she should pass all.
Shit.
Her hCG levels were elevated.
Ilsa was pregnant. Ilsa was expecting Ethan's baby.
She was 3 months pregnant. This would explain why Ilsa's body fought them when she was brought in, her body was protecting the baby.
Grabbing the abdominal ultrasound she wondered if Ethan knew. Ilsa had broken down her walls around him but was this a wall that either had discussed? Ethan hadn’t mentioned anything when they rescued Ilsa and neither of the boys had shown signs of knowing.
Running the ultrasound over Ilsa’s stomach the relieving sound of the baby's heartbeat filled the small tent. Well, she hoped it was relieving, hell did Ilsa know herself?
She suspected she did from the Brit cradling her stomach as she drifted in and out of consciousness during the flight. The heartbeat was steady, the baby was safe and healthy which was lucky considering what Ilsa had been through in the last 24 hours.
The radio attached to her hip crackled to life announcing the helicopter making its way back with the rest of the team. They had to leave them behind to make room for them to work on Ilsa. Luther had to hold onto a struggling Ethan, who had fought with all his might to come with them.
She had about 5 minutes before they would get back to the tent, giving her enough time to pack any baby-related items away. She figured Ilsa needed to be the one to tell Ethan herself.
As she was busying herself with tidying, the heart rate of the British agent signalled she was beginning to ruse. Eyes flickered open to meet hers, pain whimpers followed as she came to.
With a hand on her none injured shoulder, she spoke softly ‘Ilsa, hey it's ok. It's Julia, you're in the med camp. You're injured from the kidnapping and fight, Ethan and the team are safe and are on their way.’
Once the meaning of her words sunk in, Ilsa began to calm. ‘ I, I…’
‘Don't push yourself, save your voice for Ethan’, striking blue eyes travelled along the spy’s own body taking note of the injuries and finally landing on her stomach.
Knowing the question she was thinking, she answered for her,
‘The baby is fine. You're about 12 weeks, I’ve not put it in your notes and told the team to not tell the others-’ Ilsa then met her eyes ‘- I figured you'd want to tell them’.
Hearing the helicopter land in the distance, she put the last piece of equipment away before turning back to Ilsa.
‘Whatever you decide to do, I'm here. Whatever is running through your head, ignore it, Ethan will be happy whatever you decide. He loves you and will support you through every step.’
Ilsa spoke for the first time since waking ‘Than- thank you, Julia. I want Ethan’
Returning the smile, she placed a gentle kiss on her friend's hairline ‘He’s arriving at the camp now, he’ll be here any minute’ before making her way out of the tent.
—------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The helicopter hadn’t even turned its blades off before he was barreling out of it tearing along the path to the med tent.
Finding the main tent he bumped into Eric who was making his way out, grasping his arm as he passed ‘ It was touch and go, we did lose her once but she's ok. She’s asking for you.
She seemed at peace lying on the small hospital bed, monitors surrounding her, a rhythmic beeping sound. The sound reaffirms Eric's words, but he needed to see for himself.
A black eye and a bandage going from her eyebrow to the hairline adorned the left side of her face. A blanket was drawn up to mid chest leaving her shoulders bare showing the thick bandaging adorning where the knife had been mere hours ago.
Her eyes were closed but he knew she wasn't sleeping, she wouldn't until they were back in a safehouse. Reaching her side, he resisted reaching out; he didn't know what had happened between her and Lane.
As if she could read his mind, ‘It's ok, Ethan. I need you please’.
Avoiding the painful side of her face, he cupped her cheek in his hand and placed a gentle kiss on her lips which she faintly reciprocated.
His lips rested on hers as he placed his forehead tenderly against hers. Neither spoke for a while both basking in each other's touch.
The warmth of her skin under his, reminded him she was here. She was back with him. The warmth reminded him how close he had been to losing her up on the mountains.
Blue eyes met his, saying all the words she needed to say to put his mind at rest. That she was back with him and not to beat himself up.
Though the comfort in her eyes turned to concern, ‘Ethan, I. There’s something. I have something I need to tell you ’. There was an intense look on her face as if her thoughts were fighting with each other
He wasn’t sure what was happening. Since getting together both of them had worked together on communication with each other, good or bad.
Ilsa gazed off into the distance seemingly afraid to meet his eye contact. ‘ I was going to tell you back in Denmark but I didn’t want you knowing and risking Lane knowing too. I just need to know that whatever happens, you’ll stay here. Please don’t run as I’m just as scared as you.’
He kept quiet, instead reaching out to hold her hands stilling them from the anxiously fidgeting.
‘I. Ive been noticing symptoms for the last few weeks that i was putting down to the back to back missions, hoping that avoidingg them would make them go away. Ethan. Ive been late for the last few weeks. Ive been tired, hungry and nauseated all the time’, she finally looked back at him letting the words sink in.
He couldnt believe what she was telling him. His mind was numb, he had never thought about this step in his life. Neither of them had so it was inevitable the way they messed around.
The fear of his reaction was scaring her,‘Ethan please say something’.
He seemed lost in his head before that classic Ethan smile adorned his face ‘You’re… pregnant ? We’re having a baby ?’. He seemed to start vibrating with excitement as she guided his hand to rest on her stomach.
"We're having a baby Ethan. We’re becoming parents’
His other hand came to rest under her chin tilting her face towards him, keeping his other resting on her nonexistent bump ‘ I love you. I love you. Whatever you decide to do next I will support you every step of the way. I never thought I’d become a father, but I am so excited to take this path with you’
The emotions were too much to answer him so she pulled him to bring his lips to hers communcting her feelings to him. She was scared of what was to come in the coming months as she stepped into the world of motherhood but she knew that Ethan would be by her side every step of the way.
Swedish translation- nice to see you again. You won't be getting off as easy this time
“Karma is a bitch, isn't it. That hurts, doesn't it?

⚠️ ATTENTION TOP GUN FANFIC / IMAGINE WRITERS ⚠️
I came across an Instagram video about a dad who received a plushie from his son to take with him on deployment, the dad takes pictures with the plushie on deployment and it’s the cutest thing ever. I immediately thought of the Top Gun characters doing this (especially Bradley and Jake). 🥰🧸💞
Link to the video: https://www.instagram.com/reel/CwYDrqkrPYm/?igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==
Since I’m not confident enough to write it myself, I decided to make this video known and tag some amazing writers who I think (and who I’m sure) can make this idea into a beautiful story. ❤️🧡💛💚🩵💜

Peter Parker x Reader
A/N: First Peter Parker fic! It’s official, I have moved into the Marvel fandom. I’m more than happy to be writing a spoodermoon fic first because he has always been my most favourite superhero out of literally any universe. I based this on the Tom Holland spider-verse, only because it’s the most written one at the moment and it’s the whole rage with the new movie too, which shock horror, I still haven’t seen yet. I know - fake fan. I just don’t have the time or money to go to the cinema yet. Well anyway, lots of doubt and lots of anxiety with this fic but I really hope it’s ok. I must also credit the plot because I was so stuck with ideas and I found the plot as an imagine thing on google images of all places, so credit to whoever made the plot up. PS. if you want some good marvel fics to read, try any of @justabigassnerd because her stuff is incredible. Enjoy! Moose :)
--------------------
“PETER PARKER!” You continued knocking loudly, becoming more and more frustrated as you stood outside of your boyfriend’s apartment, waiting for the door to finally open, “PETER COME ON!”
“Shut it, lady, some of us are trying to enjoy the evening!” An angry neighbour from down the hallway called out from his own apartment.
You stuck your tongue out at him before sighing from the embarrassment of how childish you felt, before going back to the incessant knocking on Peter’s door, “PETER I TEXTED YOU, YOU KNEW I WAS COMING!”
“I know, I know, I’m so sorry, Y/N!” The door finally swung open, revealing a very sweaty Peter stood in front of you.
“Why did it take you so long to open the door?” You groaned, stepping into his apartment and flinging your bag to the side.
“I-I was on patrol while you were at study group. I got your text but I was on the other side of the city and then when you were banging on the door, I was trying to get out the suit and-“
“Pete, Pete! It’s okay” you laughed slightly, “I’m sorry, I didn’t realise you were going on patrol tonight”
“Well, I wasn’t planning on it but I knew that I had some time left while you were at study group and so I just…bit the bullet and went out” he shrugged, “Speaking of, how was study group?”
“Don’t ask” you collapsed face first on his bed, groaning at the relief of relaxation after the long day.
“Flash?”
You know, you would never know that he was trying to get into Stanford…like the rest of the study group. Hence, the AP Stanford Study Group”
“He doesn’t deserve to be in there,” Peter said.
“He deserves it as much as anyone else in the world, Pete”
“But he’s not been offered a scholarship placement, was he? Unlike someone else I know” he smiled, sitting down in his desk chair.
“I haven’t been offered it, Pete. I’m just going for it. But so is MJ and Liz and Flash and-“
“Yeah, I get it, Y/N. A lot of people are going for it” he laughed, “I more meant that only one of you is going to get it and that one will be you”
“To assume is to make an ass out of you and me,” you said into the pillow, feeling yourself fall deeper and deeper into a state of relaxation, almost asleep.
“I hate you” he smirked, standing up and ruffling your hair playfully, “I’m just going to shower, get dressed and then we’ll head out, ok?”
“Head out?” You finally rose from your plank position, looking up towards Peter, “Why would we go out?”
Peter laughed loudly, crossing his arms as he looked down at you, “You’ve forgotten, haven’t you?”
“Forgotten what?” You questioned, “I haven’t forgotten anything”
“What’s today?”
“Saturday?”
“Y/N, it’s our two year anniversary today”
You stared at Peter momentarily, seeing his smirk grow larger and larger into a wide grin as he realised that you had, indeed, forgotten the anniversary.
“SHIT!” You cried, hiding your face back in his pillow, hearing Peter continue to laugh more and more next to you, “Oh Pete, I am so, so, so sorry”
“Y/N, it’s-“
“No, no” you stood up quickly, reaching out to hold Peter’s arms, “I forgot our two year anniversary! I haven’t got you anything or even said ‘Happy Anniversary Peter, I love you’ oh god I am such an idiot”
“Y/N, it’s ok. I knew you would forget”
Those words made you stop banging your head against Peter’s chest, “You what?”
“Y/N, let’s be real here. You are studying near 24/7, and I don’t blame you. There isn’t anyone in the world that want’s you to get the scholarship at Stanford more than me. I kinda knew that you would forget today”
“Pete, I am so sorry. How can I make this up to you?”
“Let me treat you to a nice evening to celebrate two years together”
“Oh god, I am such a bad girlfriend. Karen would be a better girlfriend than me” you sighed, hiding your face in Peter’s chest once again as he laughed, kissing the top of your head.
“She wouldn’t be bad” he teased, chuckling when you slapped him with mock offence, “But I can’t kiss Karen”
You smiled sheepishly, kissing Peter when he leant down towards you.
“Now, you hang about while I go and take a quick shower and then, madam, I will take you out to a secret location where we will do the secret thing that I have planned to do tonight”
“You don’t even sound remotely creepy right now”
“I love you too” Peter kissed you quickly once again, before leaving you to take that well-needed shower.
Sighing, you went and sat in the front room, turning on the TV to watch whatever crap was on when May walked through the front door.
“Y/N! Hey, sweetie” she smiled, leaning down to kiss the top of your head.
“Hi May”
“Happy anniversary”
“I forgot,” you said timidly, turning around to see the amusement on her face, her grin almost identical to Peter’s.
“Pete said you would”
“I am such a bad girlfriend”
May laughed, unloading the groceries she had brought earlier onto the kitchen counter, “You know, I always forgot my anniversaries with all my boyfriends. And I wasn’t studying as hard as you. How’s that going, by the way?”
“It’s certainly going” You sighed, turning the TV off as nothing interesting was on anyway, “Pete is helping me a lot too. The study group sets a load of assignments and fortnightly tests which Pete helps me revise for. Honestly, I wouldn’t even have a shot at getting the scholarship if it weren’t for Peter. And, as a thank you for all his hard work helping me, I forget our anniversary”
“It happens to the best of us, sweetie”
“May…I-I really don’t know how to make it up to him” you sighed, almost with desperation.
“How long have you known Pete, huh?” May questioned, folding her arms just as Peter had done earlier. Honestly, there was no doubt that they were the same person.
“I don’t know…like 7 years?”
“Then you’ll know exactly what to do, hun”
“Hey, you ready to go?” Peter appeared in the front room, his hair still slightly wet from the shower.
“Hey, handsome!” May waved, making her presence known, “You look nice”
“May…” he groaned.
“She’s right” you looked him up and down, the sight of him in his jeans and a blue Henley, noticing the accessory placed upon his nose, “I see you’re styling the glasses tonight, Parker”
“Yeah, alright, stop looking…both of you. You’re making me feel self-conscious” he laughed, shying away to try and hide the faint blush that crept onto his cheeks, “You ready to go, Y/N? We need to get to where we’re going before Christmas, ideally”
“Alright, alright, I’m ready. I just need to call my mum”
“Don’t worry, I’ll do that, Y/N” May offered, “You two just go and enjoy yourselves. And please…no getting into any trouble”
“Can’t make any guarantee’s, May” Peter laughed, taking your hand.
“The city needs its friendly neighbourhood Spiderman” you added.
“The city can just wait for tonight, though” Peter looked back and smiled, walking back to his bedroom.
“Uh…Pete? We’re back in your bedroom”
“Yeah, I know” he smirked.
“I know I screwed up by forgetting, but your plan isn’t in your bedroom, is it?”
“No” he laughed, fiddling with his shirt before climbing up onto his window, holding his arm out “Come on”
“What? We can’t just drive there like normal people?” You teased, almost hoping he was joking.
“Not where we’re going” he gestured with his arm once again, “Come on. Hold on tight”
“Oh yes, because I’m just going to hold on loosely while you swing me 3000ft in the air” you mocked, wrapping your arms around his neck and torso, “Just don’t drop me”
“When have I ever dropped you?” Peter asked, stepping onto the ledge outside.
“Like…6 months ago”
Peter stopped, just as he was about to shoot his first web, “Wait, what? I didn’t drop you”
“Yes, you did!” You laughed, “Ask Karen if you don’t believe me. We were out in Central Park one night and you were swinging me around and you dropped me. It wasn’t a very long drop, but I ended up having a big ass bruise on my hip and thigh for a very long time. Lying to my parents really tested my lying abilities”
A moment of silence passed as the two of you looked at each other, you laughed as you could see the cogs turning in his brain as he tried desperately tried to remember that night.
“I didn’t drop you”
“Alright, tough guy…I’m holding tight” you sighed, leaning your head in towards the crook of his neck, gripping tightly onto his body. You squealed as you felt the two of you drop, but you felt Peter’s arm wrapped tightly around your middle, holding onto you safely. You felt the wind starting to knot your hair, your eyes still shut tight. Peter had been swinging you around the city for years now, but you still found it terrifying every time he would.
“Open your eyes, princess!” Peter called over the sound of the New York traffic, “It’s almost as beautiful as you”
“Always with the smooth talk, even when we’re travelling by literal strings of high school chemistry a thousand feet above the ground with no safety other than just you and your powers” you cried, opening your eyes slightly to see the scenery around you. However, you realised it was a mistake when you felt your head spin, your eyes water painfully and your stomach in your throat.
“Uh…Pete?”
“Yes?” He asked, still swinging from building to building effortlessly as you continued to wrap your entire self around his torso.
“Are we nearly there? I’m getting a bit travel sick”
“You are?” He asked, leaning down close to your ear to make sure you could hear him as you had approached a busier part of Brooklyn, “Just hold on, just a couple more swings”
He stayed true to his word, and you landed swiftly on the top of some sort of structure. His hands stayed firmly planted on your waist as you kept your head down and burrowed, trying to get rid of the sick feeling.
“How you holding up?” He whispered, panting slightly from the journey.
“I-I think it’s because I haven’t eaten today” you breathed, wrapping your arms fully around him to embrace him in a tight hug.
“You didn’t eat?” He asked, concerned, feeling you shake your head on his chest, “Good thing I set this up then, huh?”
You opened your eyes and looked up towards Peter, noticing that you were up high. You glanced around, gasping and holding on tightly to Peter’s arm when you realised you were stood on the very top of the Brooklyn Bridge, overlooking the evening of Brooklyn and Manhattan.
“You’re okay, you’re with me” Peter chuckled, wrapping his arms around you to make you feel some sort of safety, “You’re not going anywhere”
“Why did you bring me up here?” You asked, breathing heavily with fear.
“Look down and you’ll see why”
You did as he told you and saw a blanket laid out just to the left of you, laden with the best pizza in New York, chocolate covered fruits and marshmallows, and bags upon bags of your favourite sweets. There was also a speaker, ready to play the playlist Peter had made for the evening. Pillows and other blankets were strewn about, a few candles littered around the bridge nearby to make sure that the two of you were lit well enough, but nothing would catch fire. You felt the tears rise in your eyes, and your breathing stopped momentarily.
“How did I do?”
You jumped, hearing his voice whisper behind you, his hands still lingering softly on your waist. With the complete surprise, you completely forgot he was there.
“Pete…” you breathed out, “I can’t-you…”
“Words, princess” he laughed, taking your hand and leading you down towards the blanket, “Form sentences”
“You did good” you nodded, still trying not to cry with the overwhelming emotions you were feeling.
“You said you were hungry…so my Spidey senses to buy you all your favourite things”
“Oh yeah, your Spidey senses” you laughed, watching as Peter plugged his phone into the speaker, playing your favourite song in the background, “I could not be a worse girlfriend right now”
“Don’t say that,” Peter said, opening the pizza box to reveal the tastiest looking pizza you had ever seen in your life.
“But look at all this! I forget our anniversary and you plan this all out amazingly and make me cry!”
“I’ll be real with you right now, Y/N” he said with his mouth full of pizza, “You just being with me is enough. I want to give you…everything I can give you in the world. I want to protect you for as long as I live, and I just want to make you happy. You have made these past two years the best two years of my life. That’s why I also got you…”
“Pete, you didn’t need to do any more” you sighed, watching him pull something out of his back pocket.
“This…it isn’t the real deal yet, but this is just a temporary thing until I can replace it with-“
“Oh my god, Pete” you stared at the ring box.
“Its a uhh…a promise ring” he smiled proudly, opening the box and revealing the ring with a small diamond.
“Pete, it’s beautiful” you sighed, holding your hand out to let Peter slide the smooth, metal band onto your finger.
“Beautiful ring for the most beautiful girl”
“You’re so cheesy” you laughed, still looking at your hand.
“So’s this pizza, dig in” he smiled, gesturing toward the pizza that was steaming in front of you.
“You know, Pete…a couple of years ago, I would not have expected the Peter I know today. You were so shy, you would stumble on your words in every sentence and you would barely touch me. You were so sheepish. Now look at you! Global superhero and the most confident guy around”
“You made me the guy I am today…and I don’t know about you, but I kinda like this guy”
“I love him” you leant in to kiss his cheek before stealing a bite of his slice of pizza.
“Hey! You have your own! I didn’t eat either today because I knew I was planning this!”
“Not my fault” you chuckled, sitting back against a propped up pillow on a strut of the bridge, resting your feet on Peter’s legs, “So, how was patrol this evening?”
“The usual…not a lot going on. I did stop a mugging though”
“You’re kidding” you sat up, “What did you do? Did you have to chase him across the city and then give him a beating to make him give up whatever he stole? Did you have to-to-I can’t think of anything else”
“No” he laughed, “I showed up and he apologised immediately and handed the bag back to the lady he stole it from”
“Oh wow…” you sighed, laughing along with Peter as you imagined what it would have been like, “What a wimp”
“Nah, I think he was just scared” Peter wiped his hands clean as he finished his slice, “No one messes with your boyfriend”
“Well…no one messes with Spiderman” you corrected, “People would mess with Peter Parker”
“Well that’s not very nice”
“I’m only kidding, Pete” you smiled, moving across to wrap your arms around Peter once again, “I am so, so lucky to be able to call you mine. Every girl in this city wants to be with you, but I’m the one that gets to keep you”
“I’m not that special” he blushed, his gaze changing to look at the sunset in front of the two of you.
“Pete, you’re a fucking avenger! You have powers! In every aspect, may I add” you winked, kissing his cheek when you heard his laugh, “You are so special…not just to the city or hell, the world…but you are SO special to me”
“Stawp it” he faked an accent, “You’re making me blush”
“Okay, babe…what accent are you trying to do?”
“Basic white bitch?” He asked, not sure himself, “Eat the strawberries, I made them myself”
“What? You made them from scratch? You grew them?” you raised your eyebrows, taking a bite out of the first strawberry you picked up.
“Well…I dipped them in chocolate” he said.
“Very good, Pete. Very nice”
“I’m glad I could please you” he kissed your temple, rubbing his hand up and down your arm as you continued to eat the strawberries.
The evening continued as the two of you talked and laughed, eating at the picnic Peter had prepared. The sun began to go down as Peter held you tightly in his arms, the traffic below becoming quieter as the night went on. There was a long moment of silence as the two of you watched the river below shine in the evening dusk.
“This is really beautiful. And the evening was so thoughtful of you” you finally spoke up, your head resting on Peter’s shoulder, mindlessly tracing your fingers across his arm that was wrapped around you, “Thank you so much for making this the best evening of…well, my life”
“Of your life?” He looked down at you with a proud smile.
“Yeah” you met his gaze, “Of my life”
Peter leant down to kiss you, his smile growing as you wrapped your arms around his neck to deepen the kiss. You started to laugh when his curls tickled you, making you move your hands through his hair. God, it was so soft. The two of you pulled away, but Peter kept your hand in his, bringing the promise ring up towards his lips to kiss it gently.
“You’re so cheesy it makes me wanna throw up”
“Nah, you love it really” he laughed, opening his arms up to invite you to sit with him again.
No more words were said as the sun continued to go down, the evening becoming calmer and quieter. The sky was a gorgeous painting of purples, pinks and dusky blues. You could not have been more comfortable in the arms of Peter, your head resting on his shoulder and your feet tangled up together as the music played in the background. You felt like you were in a movie. You felt so relaxed and sleepy that you yawned… and loudly.
“You getting sleepy, Princess?” Peter asked with a slight chuckle, seeing you blush from how loudly you yawned.
“I’m just relaxed” you smiled, although now that Peter had mentioned it, you felt your eyes become heavy.
“Let me fix that” he smiled, scooting out from underneath you and letting you sit alone. Grabbing his web-shooters, he fired them continuously against two bars of the bridge.
“Pete, what are you doing? You asked, very confused as to what he was doing.
“You’ll see” he smiled, still firing webs, “and voila”
“I don’t get it” you stared at his work, still trying to work out what he made.
“That’s because it’s not finished yet!” He teased, taking off his web-shooters before gathering up all the pillows and blankets that were currently on the blanket and placing them on his ‘masterpiece’
“I-I don’t think you understand what voila means then”
“Alright smart-ass! VOILA!”
“It’s a-a-“
“A hammock!” He smiled proudly, like a young child showing his teacher a picture he drew.
“You made a hammock…out of webs?” You asked, almost impressed, “Isn’t it going to be really…I don’t know…sticky?”
“Hence pillows and blankets” he gestured, sitting down gently so not to break the webs attaching said hammock to the posts, opening his arms to welcome you in. You sighed and shook your head, a soft smile on your face as you obliged and sat carefully next to Peter, feeling his arms engulf you. You gasped quietly when you felt the hammock go down ever so slightly.
“Y/N, these webs are stronger than me, and I dunno about you but I think I’m pretty damn strong”
“This is no time to flex about your biceps, Pete” you joked, shuffling down to make yourself comfortable among the numerous pillows and the fully grown not-so-human boy next to you.
“I didn’t even have to work for them” he raised his eyebrows, making you laugh.
“Shut up” you laughed, the sunset highlight Peter’s face perfectly. How could he be so cute? You sighed as you felt your eyes close, Peter’s foot placed firmly on the ground to keep the hammock rocking to send you to sleep. The sun continued to lower and the sky became littered with stars, which was rare for New York, which was usually always so cloudy at night. You felt a sort of contempt in Peter’s arms as you began to fall asleep underneath the stars on the top of Brooklyn Bridge, as any teenager does.
“Here’s to another two years” you sighed, finally falling into a deep sleep.
“Nah” he kissed your head softly, his foot still swinging back and forth as he smiled down lovingly at you, “Here’s to forevermore”

Tumblr media
Growing up with Pete ‘Maverick’ Mitchell as your father, you’d been taught from an early age that you could tell your dad anything. He never let anything you wanted to tell him about feel unimportant. If you babbled to him after preschool about how Sarah had pushed over Tom in the playground, he was giving you his full attention and voicing his own thoughts on the matter. As you got older, you knew you could talk to your dad about any problem that would plague your mind. If someone was bothering you, Maverick would be there to listen and offer advice if you wanted it. He always made an effort to be there for you.
However, despite the trust you had in your dad. There was one thing he didn’t know about you.
Maverick was ignorant of one thing that was going on in your life and that was your relationship with his RIO’s son, Bradley Bradshaw. You’d been raised alongside Bradley, nothing more than half a year between the two of you and while Goose had constantly joked, much to Maverick’s annoyance, that you and Bradley would get together, he never thought it would actually happen. Not until the two of you moved out at least.
You and Bradley were quiet about your relationship, holding hands underneath the dinner table when over at each other’s houses and sneaking kisses when your parents were in another room. On the weekends, when Goose, Carole, and Maverick would go out for most of the day, you would either spend time at Bradley’s house or vice versa, or you would go out on little dates to places you knew neither your parents nor any of your dad’s team frequented, so you’d remain undisturbed. For the first few months of your relationship, this arrangement worked smoothly, and no one was clued into your relationship with Bradley. It wasn’t that you were embarrassed to share your relationship, it was more worry about how both your dad and Goose would react to the news. Carole ended up finding out about your relationship a week before your dad and Goose did, Bradley wanted some motherly advice on relationships, and he had asked beforehand if you were okay with Carole knowing which you were fine with, with the condition she kept it quiet until you and Bradley found the best moment to tell Goose and Maverick.
The moment that your dad and Goose found out came sooner than you and Bradley would’ve liked. One weekend, your dad and Bradley’s parents had agreed to meet up at the beach with Iceman, Slider, and their significant others while you and Bradley had opted to stay behind under the guise of wanting to study together and do school work. After the adults left the house, you and Bradley waited for a minute before shoving your books aside and moving to the sofa. You immediately curled into Bradley’s side as he switched on the television, looking up at him softly as he moved his gaze to look down at you.
“You okay, baby?” He asks softly, his gentle smile never leaving his face as you nod.
“I’m more than okay. I’m perfect.” You reply in a soft whisper, leaning up to press a soft kiss to his jaw.
“You missed.” Bradley says teasingly, leaning down to capture your lips in a sweet kiss which you reciprocate immediately, shuffling in his embrace to kiss him easier as you wind your arms around the back of his neck and Bradley’s hands rested on your hips. However, because you were engrossed in each other’s presence with the tv blaring in the background, you both failed to hear the jangling of keys in the lock and your dad entering the house.
“What the fuck is going on here!?” The shocked and raised voice of your father makes you and Bradley jump away from each other, worry crossing both of your features.
“Dad, what are you doing home? You literally just left.” You say with a nervous chuckle, attempting to diffuse the obvious tension that was filling the room.
“I forgot my wallet and it’s a good thing I did. Now answer my question, what is going on?” Maverick asks, and the moment you open your mouth to try and find a response he holds his hand up to stop you talking.
“Actually, you can explain it to Goose and Carole as well.” He then says, crossing back to the front door and throwing it open to see his RIO and Carole in Goose’s Bronco.
“Goose, get your ass in here! Carole, you too. Looks like a Bradshaw-Mitchell meeting is needed.” Maverick calls out to his friends and waits for them to come into the house, closing the door behind them and ushering them into the living room while you and Bradley remained frozen in place like a deer in headlights.
“Mav, what’s this about? Ice will kill us if we’re late.” Goose says as he enters the living room, barely batting an eyelid at you and Bradley sat closely together while Carole offered a sympathetic smile to the two of you, knowing what you’re about to endure.
“I just caught these two kissing. Like full-on kissing.” Maverick says, an accusing finger pointing at you and Bradley as Goose’s jaw drops, eyes widening as Maverick’s words sink in.
“Wha- these two?” Goose splutters, making you bury your head in Bradley’s shoulder in an attempt to escape the embarrassment.
“Hey, I need a bit of space between you two, back it up.” Maverick says, making you pull away from Bradley slightly to glare at your dad.
“Dad, are you serious?” You ask, and that’s when Carole decides that now is the time to step in.
“Boys, you two need to calm down.” Carole intervenes, getting both Maverick and Goose’s attention on her.
“But they hid this from us for who knows how long? How are you not angry?” Maverick manages to say, running a hand through his hair. At the silence that follows Maverick’s question, Goose connects the dots and turns to his wife.
“Honey, did you know about this?” Goose asks hesitantly, both Maverick and Goose watching Carole carefully as she nods.
“Bradley came to me a week ago. They wanted to tell you, but they were scared about how you would react and just from what I’ve seen their worries were proven right with the way you two have reacted.” Carole says, an accusing glare fired the men’s way as they exchange a look.
“y/n is my little girl.” Maverick weakly argues, making your face heat up at his words.
“Bradley’s my baby boy but I still want him to be happy and if he’s happy with y/n and she’s happy with him that’s all we should be focused on.” Carole says and it was Bradley’s turn to blush now, glancing down at his lap as you slip your hand into his and squeeze it softly.
“Brad, are you happy with y/n?”
“y/n/n, are you happy with Bradley?” Both questions leave Goose and Maverick’s mouths simultaneously. All eyes were on you and Bradley as you briefly glance at each other, smiling softly before looking back over at Goose and Maverick.
“Yes.”
“Yes.” The answers left your mouth in tandem as Bradley ran his thumb over the back of your hand. Goose and Maverick exchanged a look before shrugging.
“It probably was bound to happen, wasn’t it?” Maverick says, a slight chuckle escaping him as he speaks while Goose nods.
“Well I did call it, but I thought they’d at least wait a year until college so we wouldn’t have to be victim to their teenage PDA.” Goose says, receiving a soft slap on the arm from Carole at the teasing aimed at you and Bradley.
“Oh hush, you know we were just as bad. And it’s not like these two haven’t grown up seeing us kiss, honey.” Carole says, leaning up to give Goose a kiss to accentuate her point. With the tension now gone, you curl back into Bradley’s side, smiling as he presses a feather-light kiss to the top of your head.
“Just don’t break each other’s hearts.” Maverick warns gently, glancing between you and Bradley as you nod.
“I wouldn’t dream of it, Mav.” Bradley says, his smile never leaving his face.
“I don’t think I ever could. I love him too much.” You affirm, looking up at Bradley before giving him a soft, gentle kiss.
“Alright, we’ll leave you to it. But I don’t want to be a grandad at this age so be careful you two.” Maverick teases as you groan and toss a pillow at him, missing and narrowly avoiding hitting Goose in the process.
“See that, Bradley? Don’t piss off a Mitchell.” Goose says with a laugh as Maverick rolls his eyes and jokingly shoves him.
“We should make our way to the beach, boys. I’m sure the others are wondering where we are.” Carole says, diverting the attention and both Maverick and Goose nod as you detach yourself from Bradley to find your dad’s wallet and give it to him before he pulls you into a hug.
“I love you, sweetheart.” Maverick whispers, pressing a kiss to your temple.
“I love you too, dad.” You reply before pulling away with a gentle smile. After pulling away from the hug, Goose, Maverick, and Carole bid you and Bradley goodbye and make their way out to the Bronco.
“When we get to the beach someone remind me that Ice now owes me twenty bucks now that we know y/n and Bradley are together.” Goose says as he turns the key and starts the engine while Maverick nods.
“Got it… wait, you made a bet?”

It was supposed to be a serene Sunday morning where you’d wake up in your boyfriend’s arms and just laze around until you decided to get up and make breakfast. When you did peel your eyes open, you felt an all too familiar feeling and sat bolt upright, silently grateful that Jake hadn’t had his arm around you. Pulling back the duvet you saw exactly what you were expecting, a red blood stain standing out against the white mattress topper you had on your bed.
“Shit.” You swore under your breath as you stared down at the stain. Usually, you knew when your period was coming, always coming at the same time each month but it decided to get the jump on you this month. You begin to formulate a plan in your head, getting out of bed and rushing to the bathroom with clean clothes and underwear where you change into them, making sure to put a pad on.
When you return to the bedroom, Jake was still sound asleep, face smushed against the pillow as soft breaths escape his lips. You felt awful having to do it, but you needed to wake him up so you could clean your sheets. You and Jake had only recently gotten to the point in your relationship where you slept around each other’s houses, and you didn’t want him to see this and run for the hills. Jake made you feel loved like no one else had. He cared for you. And he was the perfect gentleman. But you knew some men got weird about periods and you were terrified Jake was one of them.
“Jake, wake up baby. I’m going to get started on some breakfast.” You say, your voice no louder than a whisper as you run a hand through Jake’s hair, a small smile crossing your face when Jake’s eyes scrunch closed slightly before they flutter open, his bright green eyes looking up at you as a smile graced his face.
“Morning, darlin’. Bit early for breakfast, isn’t it?” Jake says, his voice raspy from sleep as he props himself on his elbow, the action shifting the duvet you had pulled up to conceal the bloodstain, making you move around to your side of the bed, pulling the duvet back up in the act of making the bed.
“Just woke up with a bit more energy than usual, felt weird lying in bed.” The lie came quickly. You did not have the energy you claimed to have but you needed to keep up the act just in case.
“Alright, I’ll get up.” Jake says, pulling the duvet back on his side as your breath hitched in your throat, hoping he didn’t reveal the stain. To your relief, he barely gave the bed a second thought once he got out, pulling the duvet up and crossing to you, resting his hands gently on your hips and smiling down at you.
“So… breakfast?” He says, his grin wide as he reaches to press a soft kiss to your lips.
“Breakfast.” You confirm with a nod when Jake finally detaches his lips from yours. Jake moves his hands from your hips and moves to head downstairs, suddenly stopping and turning to wait for you.
“You go on ahead. I just need to sort something quickly. You can pick what you want for breakfast.” You say sweetly, a smile on your face as Jake nods before leaving the room. You wait to hear him walking down the stairs before you rush to pull the sheet off your bed, tossing the duvet and pillows across the room so you could remove the sheet and replace it with a fresh one which you do as quickly as possible before making the bed again. You bundle the sheet and your dirtied pyjamas into a wash basket and carry it downstairs to the kitchen so you could get to the utility room. As you enter the kitchen, you’re greeted by Jake as he preps the various foods he’s selected for breakfast.
“I’m thinking bacon and pancakes.” Jake says, turning to face you as he sets a pan on the hob with a grin.
“Whatever you want to have. I did say you could pick.” You say with a grin as Jake nods, turning around to begin making the pancake batter. You use his focus on making breakfast to slip into the utility room and to put your sheets and pyjamas in the wash. As you begin to load everything into the washing machine, Jake sticks his head into the room.
“Did you want fruit or chocolate chips in the pancakes?” Jake asks, stopping when you hurriedly shove the washing into the machine, haphazardly chucking in a washing tablet as you go.
“Either is fine.” You say, hoping he didn’t see anything.
“You okay?” Jake asks, making you nod your head, maybe a little too eagerly.
“I’m good. Just needed to put some washing on.” You say, turning on the machine and moving to squeeze past him to get back into the kitchen with Jake following right behind. He noticed how you winced slightly like you were in pain and he watched your hand reach to your lower stomach, and it clicked in his head.
“Forgive me if I’m overstepping, darlin’. But are you on your period?” Jake asks as he crosses back to the bowl of batter, finding the chocolate chips in the cupboard and dumping some into the batter. You froze at his words, looking over at him in shock.
“How did you…?” You start, watching as Jake abandons the batter once again before turning to face you.
“Well you’re too perky to be sick, and I highly doubt you’re pregnant. I also have sisters and my ma taught me how to notice the signs so I could look after my girl in the future.” Jake says gently, leaning back against the counter as he watches you carefully, seeing you shift in embarrassment.
“It would also explain the washing at this time of the morning.” Jake continues, regretting his words when you look away from him.
“I’m sorry. I know it’s disgusting and-”
“Whoa, whoa, whoa, darlin’. Who said it was disgusting? It’s natural and it’s okay I didn’t mean to make you feel embarrassed about it. Come on, sit yourself down and relax while I make breakfast.” Jake says apologetically as he leads you to the sofa and lets you sit down, pressing a kiss to the top of your head before disappearing back into the kitchen where you hear food frying along with the faint sound of Jake humming along to whatever song is stuck in his head. It doesn’t take Jake too long to emerge with two plates of pancakes and bacon and hands one to you and places the other on the coffee table before quickly grabbing the coffee he had also prepared. When he returns, he sits alongside you and you both eat your breakfast quietly, the sounds of the tv being the only thing creating noise in the room. When you finish breakfast, Jake is quick to take both plates and mugs to the kitchen and load them into the dishwasher before returning.
“How are you feeling?” Jake says softly as he sits back alongside you, reaching out and cupping your cheek softly as you lean into his touch, eyelids fluttering closed at the action.
“Rough. I also just realised I forgot to stock up on snacks and painkillers for this.” You mumble, silently angry at yourself for living in blissful ignorance for even a moment. With a quick kiss to your forehead, Jake is back on his feet, making you open your eyes and look up at him.
“I’m gonna get dressed and do a snack run and grab some painkillers for you too.” He says and you quickly grab his wrist, making him stop in his tracks.
“You don’t have to, Jake. If you have plans or anything you can head out. I can take care of myself.” You say, smiling up at him as you try to convince him that you’ll be fine. You knew he often met up with his squadron or at the very least his friend Javy on the weekend and you didn’t want him to miss out on any plans he had.
“They were cancelled the minute I figured out what was going on. There’s nothing more important to me than taking care of my girl right now.” Jake says softly taking your hand in his free one and gently detaching it from his wrist before running a gentle thumb across your knuckle, finally getting you to let go of his hand.
“I’ll be quick. Your job right now is to sit there looking pretty.” Jake promises with a cheeky smirk before rushing upstairs to change before exiting your house. You lay across the sofa, curled up as another wave of pain runs across your stomach. You watch the tv in hopes the show playing will distract you long enough for Jake to return from his shop run.
Jake returned within record time, and had you convinced that he most likely sprinted around the entire shop to get you what you needed.
“Alright, I got some snacks, painkillers, and I picked you up a couple of extra packs of pads just in case.” Jake says as he eases himself down on the sofa. You sniffle lightly as Jake lays out the snacks he got on the coffee table, touched that he rushed out to the shops for you at the drop of a hat.
“Whoa, why the tears beautiful? Did I overstep?” He asks worriedly, tilting his head slightly when you shake your head, wiping the tears away.
“No baby, I’m just overwhelmed. No one’s ever done this for me before. My last boyfriend pretty much shamed me for having my period and barely gave me this kind of thought.” You say, smiling at Jake as he softens, moving closer and taking your hand in his.
“You deserve someone who takes care of you, darlin’. Especially on days like this. And I’m more than happy to be that someone for you.” Jake says softly, lifting your hand and pressing a gentle kiss to your knuckles as you giggle lightly.
“I’ll grab you some water and you can take some of these painkillers and then I’m all yours for the day.” Jake then says, releasing your hand and rushing to the kitchen and returning with a glass of water. You take it while thanking him and then take the painkillers. You then curl up in Jake’s arms and watch the show on tv as Jake mindlessly runs a hand up and down your arm, each sweeping movement providing more comfort than the last. You always felt safe in Jake’s arms and to know he was someone who would stay by your side even when you’re not feeling great was such a relieving feeling. You got lucky with Jake. And you never wanted to let him go.

Growing up it had always just been you and your dad, and you were perfectly fine with that arrangement. There would be a small number of people that would come in and out of your life, but your dad stuck around no matter what and he was all you needed.
Then he got called back to Top Gun.
After completing the mission he was called back for, Jake and his squad were offered a permanent position at Top Gun so they could all remain together which brought a new array of people into your life. You knew Javy of course; he and your dad had formed a close friendship early on so having him back in your life was a welcome surprise. Then there was the likes of Bradley, Bob, Ruben, and Natasha who became your honorary uncles and aunt. Then there was Mickey who somehow became like a second father to you. He was the youngest of the Daggers and so everyone had assumed he’d take more of an older brother role towards you, but he showed his complex maturity when he helped you solve a problem you were having, and you often found yourself going to him with problems you weren’t ready to talk to your own dad about yet to get advice from him.
A couple of years down the line, your dad and the Daggers were still based in Miramar and life was just as good as it was when the team first became an official squadron. You had recently turned sixteen and gotten a job working at a little restaurant along the beachfront for a little extra cash. It wasn’t the best job in the world, but it was something.
One evening, after a long day of work at Top Gun, the Daggers decided that they’d visit the restaurant you worked at to grab some dinner and to also surprise you while you were working.
The squadron turned up and waited excitedly to be seated and Jake couldn’t help but smile when he saw your eyes light up upon seeing the team gathered. You found them a table and handed out menus to everyone. The smile never leaves your face as you talk to them, getting their drinks orders before heading off to go and get their drinks. When you returned with their drinks you took their food orders and took them to the kitchen before returning to your section and seating two middle-aged men at a table near the Daggers. At first, they were polite, thanking you as they initially sat down and gave you their drinks orders with kind smiles but as the evening progressed their behaviour shifted. When you brought them their meals after the Daggers were just about halfway through their own dinners, the two men started looking you up and down, making uncomfortable flirty comments and one of the men even tried to run his hand along yours as you placed his food down in front of him. None of the men’s comments or actions went unnoticed by Mickey, who nudged Jake and pointed out how uncomfortable you clearly looked while serving the two men. When you moved away from the table to grab more drinks for the two men, Mickey and Jake exchanged a look and pushed their chairs away from the table, rising in sync and crossing to the two men.
“Can we help you?” One of the men asks, raising an eyebrow as they stare up at the two aviators who fold their arms across their chest in tandem, glaring down at the two men.
“You can stop bothering my daughter, that’s how you can help me.” Jake says, jaw set as his gaze grows colder by the second. The two men share a brief glance before letting out small chuckles.
“With all due respect. Your daughter is very beautiful.” One of the men has the gall to say, making Jake almost shift to land a punch on that man’s cocky smile, but Mickey was quicker, grabbing Jake’s shoulder and pulling him back a couple of paces to reduce the fight risk.
“She’s also sixteen years old. She’s just a kid!” Mickey has to hold himself back from screaming it in the man’s face as his friend shrugs.
“Well, she looks older.”
“And you still think that makes it okay?” Mickey says as Jake shrugs Mickey’s hand off his shoulder and approaches the two men, bracing his hands on the table, and leaning down so he’s in their faces.
“You two have about five minutes to pay your bill, give my kid a good tip and get your sorry asses out of here.” Jake’s voice was low and threatening, but the two men chuckled once again.
“What exactly are you going to do if we don’t do that?” The man asks, smirking cockily as he leant back in his seat, arms folding over his chest.
“I’ve got an entire team of naval aviators behind me, and they will not hesitate to get involved on my kid’s behalf.” Jake is seconds away from throwing a punch when the men laugh in his face.
“I have your- what’s going on?” Your return should’ve been expected yet in the moment all four men had forgotten you had gone off to get drinks.
“Nothing for you to worry about, sweetheart.” Jake says, straightening up and flashing a smile in your direction as Mickey drops his defensive stance to make everything seem more natural.
“Exactly, sweetheart. Are those our drinks?” One of the men says, condescension in his tone as he looks you up and down, frowning when you begin to look uncomfortable at his words.
“Oh come on, you can’t serve us with a smile?” He then says, and Mickey immediately walks over to you and takes the drinks off the tray.
“Mickey, what are you doing?” You ask in a hushed whisper as Mickey winks quickly, refusing to answer before turning around and slapping the biggest grin on his face and approaching the table.
“Here’s your drinks.” Mickey says, placing both drinks down making sure he spilt a bit over each man as he put them down.
“What are you doing?” One man says, standing up and attempting to brush the drink off his trousers.
“Oh, I’m sorry. I thought you wanted to be served with a smile. I must’ve gotten a bit carried away.” Mickey says, the grin never leaving his face as both men grab napkins to wipe at their clothes while Jake crosses to you.
“Why don’t you grab the bill for these two? I have a feeling they’ll be leaving soon.” Jake whispers, watching as you nod lightly and head back to get the bill for the two men. Jake and Mickey return to the table with the Daggers, telling them that the situation appears to be defused and that since they had finished up all their meals, they’d get the bill and pay after the two men left. Jake kept glancing over at the two men as you brought over their bill and thankfully their mouths remained shut and they paid for their food and drinks silently before finishing their drinks and leaving the restaurant. When they left, you went over to the Daggers table and got them their bill and took the payments. You said goodbye to each Dagger in turn as they left but Jake and Mickey stopped in front of you.
“We’re going to wait outside for you, I know you don’t have much longer of your shift, and we want to make sure those assholes don’t come back.” Jake says, both he and Mickey smiling softly at you as you nod, thanking them before rushing off to finish off the rest of your shift.
Mickey and Jake sit outside the restaurant on a bench just by the beachfront and watch people taking evening strolls along the beach and listen to the sounds of seagulls calling and waves crashing against the sand. The two men found themselves talking about how work was going for them to pass the time until they heard you calling out for them, and they both turned and looked over their shoulders, a smile coming to their faces as they got to their feet and crossed to meet you halfway. Jake reached you first and trapped you in a strong but gentle hug.
“Was the rest of your shift, okay?” Was the first thing he asked as he hugged you, feeling you nod against his chest.
“Yeah.” You say as you pull away from the hug, moving to hug Mickey who embraces you happily.
“No one else bothered you?” Mickey checks in as he releases you from the hug.
“Nothing I couldn’t handle. Thank you, by the way. Those guys really gave me the creeps.” You admit, briefly casting your gaze to the floor before looking back up at the two men.
“No need to thank us, sweetheart. We’ll always look out for you.” Jake says with a soft smile.
“Honestly, if you two weren’t in the Navy I would’ve asked my manager to hire you guys. We could do with some people to help us handle the creepy guys. And I think Mickey would be an excellent waiter, he’s got the customer service smile down.” You say with a slight laugh, making both your dad and Mickey let out laughs of their own as they imagine Mickey being a waiter.
“Come on you, let’s get home.” Jake then says, the laughter dying down as Mickey slings an arm over your shoulders and tugs you into his side as the three of you begin to walk away from the restaurant, chatting and laughing the whole way as you enjoy each other’s company. The events of the evening are now behind you as you cherish getting to spend time with two of your favourite people. And you wouldn’t trade them for the world.

As you grew up, the adults that surrounded you always joked that you and Bradley Bradshaw were joined at the hip. Where one of you was, the other would not be far behind. You were the best of friends and you adored Bradley. He was a couple of years older than you but didn’t let it bother him even when people teased him for hanging out with someone who wasn’t in his grade at school and he always bit back, defending you wholeheartedly. Bradley was such a staple in your life that you couldn’t imagine life without him.
Until one day, everything changed.
Your dad, Pete Mitchell, better known as Maverick, pulled Bradley’s papers to the naval academy. You had no idea that he did it until a year after Bradley stopped talking to you. You had seen him on your way to school and waved at him but he just rolled his eyes and continued on his run, making your heart shatter in your chest. You had just been talking with him yesterday, helping him navigate the recent loss of his mother and now he wanted nothing to do with you? Worry and confusion ate away at you the whole school day, since Bradley had just graduated that summer you couldn’t corner him at lunch to get an answer out of him. You now instead had to wait until you could head around to see him at his house. As the day progressed you couldn’t help but wonder if it was just part of his grieving process. You knew anger was one of the five stages when it came to processing grief so maybe he was in that stage and just taking it out on you. Then your thoughts started to shift into more negative ones, and you started to wonder if you did something to upset him the last time you saw him. You replayed every word of the last conversation you had with Bradley and thought about whether anything you said could’ve come across as rude or upsetting to him and you just didn’t know. The second school was over you couldn’t have gotten out of the building any faster and you headed to Bradley’s house, stopping on the path when you noticed that his beautiful blue Bronco was missing from the driveway, indicating to you that Bradley wasn’t home. You chose to bite the bullet and head back home, hoping your dad might have some answers to your questions.
“Hey dad, do you know if I did something to upset Bradley? I saw him on my way to school this morning and he completely blanked me.” You asked as you ate dinner, you had your focus on your plate as you cut up your food so you missed how your dad tensed up at your question.
“No sweetheart, you didn’t do anything wrong.” Maverick replied, smiling softly over at you as he took a sip from his beer bottle as the angry words Bradley had yelled at him earlier echoed in his head repeatedly.
“You sure?” You ask timidly, wanting to know if there was anything you might’ve done that you didn’t notice but your dad did.
“Positive. Give him a little space, I’m sure he’ll come back before the week is up.” He said, his smile warm and encouraging as you nodded and continued to eat your dinner.
You would not speak another word to Bradley Bradshaw until almost twenty years later.
You didn’t follow in your father’s footsteps when you grew up. You instead became an elementary school teacher and found yourself living in San Diego, mere minutes away from Top Gun. You spent most of your childhood growing up in this area so it felt like returning home after coming back after a few years at college and then teaching in Vermont. You had found yourself missing California more than you cared to admit and when you found out about a teaching job at the elementary school near the naval base you knew you had to move back. You figured that not only would it be nice to come back to the place you called home, but since you were a military kid too, you could help the young children with parents in the navy when their parents went away on deployments. You got the job and moved back to San Diego with a smile on your face.
A few months after you got settled into your new job and your new house, you got a call from your dad, telling you that he had been called back to Top Gun to teach a bunch of Top Gun graduates how to fly a mission. You had offered to let him stay with you when he told you but he declined your offer, telling you that he already had quarters to live in but he promised he’d be visiting often. It was nice to have your dad back in town again, he’d been away on a fair few deployments recently so you enjoyed having him around again, and the fact he wouldn’t be flying the mission put you at ease slightly because, from the way he described it, this mission was one of the most dangerous ones he would’ve flown.
What Maverick didn’t tell you, was that Bradley was one of the Top Gun graduates who was a candidate for the mission. He knew that despite how much you tried to hide it behind your anger, you were still hurt by Bradley leaving and cutting you out of his life. And he knew that you still loved and cared for Bradley, and you would hate to hear that he would potentially be putting his life at risk if he was chosen for this mission.
A month after the uranium mission had been completed and Maverick and Bradley had repaired their relationship, you bumped into Bradley again for the first time in seventeen years. Dagger Squadron was now a permanent fixture in San Diego with Maverick staying too, not only for his team but because he reconnected with Penny and started going out again. It was nice to have your dad around permanently, and seeing how happy he was with Penny made you happy too.
You were in the shop when you bumped into Bradley again. You were browsing the aisles, searching for new stationery for your classroom since your spare pens never seemed to return when you lent the pens to your students after they realised, they had lost their own pens. You grabbed a large pack of ballpoint pens and turned around where you quickly collided with another body.
“Oh, I’m so sorry I didn’t mean to.” You apologised quickly, steadying yourself as the person you bumped into chuckled.
“No harm done.” Your heart plummeted at that all-too-familiar voice. You lifted your head to see those honey-coloured eyes you had loved so much growing up. Bradley had grown significantly since you last saw him, he’d filled out with muscles, his broad shoulders showing through the Hawaiian shirt he was wearing, evidence to you that he’d inherited his dad’s sense of style. He was now sporting a moustache that reminded you of Goose’s. As you stared at him you couldn’t stop thinking about how much you had missed him and how much of his life you had missed. But those feelings were overtaken by the anger you still held deep down at his abandonment of you. Before Bradley could say anything more, you turned on your heels and retreated, leaving Bradley standing in the middle of the stationary aisle with a confused expression. Bradley did a full sweep of the shop in the hopes he’d find you and be able to talk to you but you had left. Bradley had called Maverick on his way out of the shop, asking why he didn’t tell him that you were in town and why you were ignoring him. Maverick chose to tell Bradley that he wasn’t getting involved, that if he really wanted an answer then he had to talk to you himself. Bradley couldn’t help but groan as he hung up the phone with Maverick, knowing you’d seemingly rather talk to a pack of rabid wolves than talk to him with the way you hightailed it out of the shop. Bradley didn’t know why you were refusing to talk to him, he could’ve sworn the last time he spoke to you everything was okay between the two of you. Yes, he could admit that it had been a while since you last spoke with him but he only avoided talking to you because he was so angry at Maverick that he didn’t want to take anything out on you, and then he moved away to college before reapplying to the naval academy again. Bradley headed home, plotting ways to approach you and get you to talk to him.
After seeing Bradley in the store, you seemed to keep bumping into him everywhere you went. You tried to avoid him, ignoring him calling after you and brushing past him when he attempted to corner you. Every time you did, you felt your heart breaking more and more. You still held so much love in your heart for Bradley and it broke you to walk away from him every time you saw him. But every time you thought about hearing him out, you reminded yourself of the pain you felt when he not only ignored you but moved away without saying a word. You could understand why Bradley had been upset all those years ago, when your dad had told you that he pulled Bradley’s papers you got angry on Bradley’s behalf but soon came to understand your father's reasoning but that didn’t stop you from being at least a little upset that he did it because of the fallout it caused.
After a couple of weeks of you avoiding Bradley, he was reaching his breaking point. He was yearning to have you back in his life after so long without you. He knew he missed you when he left but he didn’t realise the severity of how much he missed you until he saw you again. He eventually figured you weren’t going to talk to him unless he could corner you somewhere. He hated himself for it, but he was growing frustrated with you avoiding him, he was trying to mend the bridge between you, and you were seemingly taking dynamite to the metaphorical bridge and destroying it further. He managed to coerce Maverick into giving him your address. He figured you’d be more comfortable talking to him in the four walls of your house and the worst you could do was slam the door in his face. He decided to wait until a Friday evening, deciding to skip Dagger Squad’s usual get-together at the Hard Deck and instead headed home after training to freshen up before heading to your house. He arrived at your house and walked up towards the house, going over what he wanted to say before he stopped in front of your front door, taking a deep breath before reaching to ring the doorbell.
Your eyebrows furrowed when you heard the ring of your doorbell. Your dad always called or texted before he came around, Penny too. You hadn’t invited anyone around nor had you ordered any food to be delivered, although you were sat on the sofa of your house staring at the takeaway pizza menu. Figuring it was one of your teaching assistants, swinging by to run something by you or check something with you before the weekend officially began, you dragged yourself off the sofa and towards the front door, pulling it open to reveal Bradley on the other side. Your face dropped at the sight of him and you went to close the door but he was quick to brace his hand on the door and prevent it from closing. Despite how much effort you were putting into closing the door, Bradley had more muscle than you and had a much easier time keeping the door open than you were having trying to close the door.
“y/n, please talk to me.” Bradley pleads, his eyes full of concern and sorrow as he stared at you.
“I don’t want to talk to you.” You say firmly, attempting to close the door once more but when he continues to hold the door open you give up, sighing heavily and stalking back towards the living room with Bradley hot on your heels after closing your front door behind him.
“y/n, I’ve been back in San Diego for a couple of months now and you’ve not spoken a word to me since I bumped into you in that shop. I tried to speak to Mav about why you’ve been avoiding me but he won’t tell me so I’ve been trying to talk to you so I can find out what’s going on here because last time we spoke-”
“Was almost twenty years ago Bradley.” You say, a sharp tone to your voice as you turn to face him, folding your arms over your chest as you stare at him.
“I don’t understand. I had to do what I could to get back into the naval academy after your dad pulled my papers. You know he did that, right?” Bradley counters, wanting you to understand why he did what he did.
“He told me a year after you left. I understand why you felt you had to do that but you didn’t need to cut me out like that. Like I meant nothing to you. Who am I kidding? Maybe I was nothing to you.” You scoff, turning away from Bradley when you feel the tears pricking at your eyes.
“y/n…” Bradley starts, aching to reach out and pull you into his arms but held himself back, knowing that was the last thing you wanted him to do.
“You never meant nothing to me.” He manages to continue, watching your movements carefully, seeing how you were fighting to keep the tears back and he silently hated himself for being the cause of them.
“Oh really? Sure felt like I did.” You mutter angrily, turning to walk into the kitchen with Bradley following behind like a lost puppy.
“You know, you meant the world to me. I loved you so much. Still do love you so much, more than I probably should. Growing up you were my best friend, the one person I wanted to spend my time with and you just left without so much as a goodbye. The last time I ever saw you before you left, you rolled your eyes at me when I tried to say hi. I spent a year of my life thinking I had done or said something that drove you off. Dad only told me what he did because he watched me blame myself for a year. Bradley, you broke my heart. But as much as I want to hate you, I can’t. Every single bit of anger I had towards you is gone because seeing you after so long reminded me of how much I love you and how much I missed you while you were gone.” You say, tears finally rolling down your cheeks at your confession and you saw as Bradley’s face softened at your words.
“y/n. I’ve been a shitty friend, I know that. I don’t deserve your forgiveness and I certainly don’t deserve your love, especially after what I put you through. You were never the cause of why I stopped talking to you. I was a coward. I was scared that because of how angry I was at Mav I was going to take it out on you too. I know now that I should’ve just talked to you but by the time I realised that what I was doing was stupid, the damage had already been done and I was packing my stuff to go to college. I should’ve reached out to you and talked to you way before now because you deserved to know the truth. Don’t ever say I didn’t care about you because I did. I still do. You are still my world. I couldn’t stop thinking about you since I moved away. I thought I’d never get to see you again. That I’d never get to tell you just how much I loved you, because it’s a lot. I am so sorry y/n.” Bradley’s words make you look up at him, his now teary eyes locking with yours. Every memory you had with Bradley flashed through your mind. Memories of spending hours at the beach together. Memories of how he protected you fearlessly when people picked on you. You were seeing your Bradley again in front of you. You took a step towards him and wrapped your arms around his torso, squeezing him tight. Bradley let out a shuddering breath at the hug before gingerly wrapping his arms around you, tugging you a little closer when you show no indication of letting go any time soon. Bradley then dips his head into the crook of your neck and allows his pent-up tears to fall.
“I’m so sorry. I’m so, so sorry y/n.” He mutters over and over again. His voice muffled by the soft material of your shirt.
“It’s okay, Bradley.” You mumble, one of your hands reaching up to run through his hair to try and calm him down. Once both you and Bradley had calmed down, you moved to sit on the sofa and you could tell from his expression that he wanted to talk about the massive elephant in the room. Both you and Bradley had just confessed your feelings for each other.
“So, we just admitted we loved each other, huh?” You say quietly, laughing lightly at yourself as you look up at Bradley. You had kept your love for him a closely guarded secret, kept behind walls in the confines of your heart but the second you were alone in your house with him, your walls came crumbling down and you poured your heart out to him.
“We did yes. I meant it. I’ve loved you as more than a friend since we were teenagers. But I totally understand if you want nothing to do with me after what I did to you.” Bradley says, gaze lowering in shame as he speaks.
“I meant it in that way too. I honestly didn’t think I’d ever say it to your face but here we are.” You chuckle weakly, lifting your hand to cup his chin so you could direct him to be looking at you instead of at the floor.
“Can I kiss you?” Bradley asks suddenly, his eyes widening when he realises what he said. As he opened his mouth to apologise and backtrack, you pressed your lips to his, pulling him impossibly closer as he reciprocates the kiss. When you pull apart, you press your forehead to his, lips mere inches apart as you grin happily at each other.
“I’ve been waiting seventeen years for you to ask me that question.” You tease as Bradley’s grin grows playful.
“Well, I guess we’ve got a lot to catch up on then.” Bradley says playfully, pulling you towards him as he falls back along the sofa, you lying on top of him in a giggling heap. You cuddle into him instantly as his arms remain firmly wrapped around you. Bradley’s arms felt like home. Like nothing could harm you and you were safe from whatever the outside world could throw at you. As you cuddled into Bradley’s chest, he smiled to himself as he tightened his grip slightly. His world was back in his life and this time he wasn’t ever going to leave you again.

“y/n/n, come on! We don’t want to be late you know what they get like!” Maverick calls through the house, pulling his aviators out of his jacket pocket and sticking them on his face. It takes you but a minute to come down the stairs putting your own sunglasses on as you pick up the bag of things you were going to be bringing with you to the beach.
“I’m here, cool your jets dad.” You laugh as you walk past your dad as he rolls his eyes, grabs his keys and follows behind you. The two of you walk to the beach, chatting amongst each other until you reach the beach.
“Who did you say was coming again?” You ask as you scour the beach for your dads’ teammates.
“Goose, Ice, Slider, Wolfman, Hollywood, and their families of course.” Maverick replies as he looks around for his friends, a grin crossing his face when he catches a glimpse of his RIO waving madly in their direction. Maverick points Goose out to you, and you make your way over to him. Goose is quick to drag you into a hug, ruffling the top of your head as you groan and swat at his hand jokingly.
“You’d think you hadn’t seen me in years, Uncle Goose.” You laugh as you’re finally released from the hug.
“Forgive me for missing my niece after I went away for a week.” Goose says, a mocking sarcastic tone to his voice as he places a hand on his heart.
“I missed you too. But just between us, I think dad missed you most. He seemed pretty lost without you.” You say quietly, eliciting a laugh from Goose as he throws his head back. Goose had gone away for a week with Bradley and Carole to visit Carole’s parents and Maverick had moped around without his partner in crime.
“I better go say hi.” Goose says with a grin, patting your shoulder before crossing to Maverick, allowing Carole to sweep you up into a hug.
“Hello, sweet girl! How have you been?” Carole asks sweetly as she hugs you. When she pulls away, her hands remain on your upper arms as she smiles at you.
“I’ve been good Auntie Carole. It’s summer so there’s not been much to do, especially when the Bradshaws are out of town.” You shrug with a soft smile. Carole nods with a smile of her own as she releases you, allowing Bradley to greet you.
“Hey y/n/n.” Bradley greets, waving slightly as your jaw drops in mock offense before tugging him into a hug.
“Don’t you tell me you’re that after a week away you’re too grown up to hug your best friend?” You ask teasingly as you hug him tight.
“Never.” Bradley replies, wrapping his arms around you and reciprocating the hug. Bradley’s hugs always felt safe, his height meant you were perfectly cocooned in his embrace, and it felt like nothing could hurt you.
“Let’s get this party started!”
“Slider, it’s not a party.” You and Bradley break apart at the familiar sound of Iceman and Slider’s friendly bickering. You turn to see the two men approaching your dad and Goose with their wives following behind. Slider had recently married his long-term girlfriend Jessica whereas Iceman had been married to his wife Sarah for a couple of years and was expecting their first child. You went over to greet them happily, hugging each person with a smile as you greeted them.
“Wolfman and Hollywood aren’t here yet?” Slider asks as he glances over at Goose and Maverick who shake their heads with a laugh.
“Those two are never on time.” Your dad laughs as he thinks about how Wolfman and Hollywood would always turn up late to any meet up the team organised. Those of you who had just arrived began to set up the stuff you’d bought. You laid out a towel while your dad set up his beach chair. As you plunge the sun umbrella into the sand to cast a shadow over your dad’s beach seat, you hear the familiar voices of Wolfman and Hollywood as they approach with their wives in tow. Hollywood had his young daughter in his arms while Wolfman was chasing after his rambunctious twin boys. You greeted the aviators and their wives before returning to Carole to help her and Bradley set up some more beach chairs alongside where you’d set up stuff for you and your dad. Once everyone had set up their beach things, you pulled your shirt and shorts off, leaving you in a bikini as you kicked your flip-flops off. You wanted to get some tanning time in, and you figured you’d go for a swim at some point as well. You sit on your towel, at first reading your book while the adults chat amongst each other. The wives took to gossiping amongst each other, wanting to know the ins and outs of what was happening around town while the men talked about how things were going at work. Iceman talked about how he was put forward for an early promotion and was working as hard as possible to get it. You tried to focus on your book, but it became a near impossible task when Bradley sprawled himself across half across your towel, half across his own as he grinned up at you with that lopsided grin you loved so much.
“Can I help you, Bradshaw?” You ask teasingly as you glanced over the top of your book, seeing his large smile which made you smile too.
“We’re at the beach. You don’t need to be reading.” Bradley insists, reaching up to take the book out of your hands, making sure to put the bookmark in for you before tucking the book back in your bag.
“What if I like reading on the beach?” You quip, raising an eyebrow at Bradley who shrugs shamelessly.
“Well, I must be doing an awful job at being an entertaining friend. C’mon, let’s do something fun! I think dad bought a football.” Bradley says, grabbing you by the hands and pulling you to your feet. Once you’re on your feet, Bradley digs around in the bag his parents had bought before triumphantly pulling the football out and holding it above his head.
“Are the old timers joining in?” You ask teasingly as you glance at your dad and his friends.
“Old timers?”
“You’ve got some sass, Mitchell.”
“You asked for it, kid.” Your words sparked mock outrage within the group of aviators as their wives laughed at their shock. All the aviators scrambled to their feet, Wolfman snatching the football out of Bradley’s hands before moving to a clearer area of the beach so you could toss the ball to each other. The group of you pass the ball to each other, laughing as the women call out to their husbands in an attempt to distract them.
After five minutes of playing catch, Slider looks over to where you were laughing and exchanging a high five with Bradley when he caught sight of a group of teenage boys a little way down the beach staring at you, clearly admiring the sight of you in a bikini. Clenching his jaw, Slider gestured for his teammates to join him.
“Sorry kids, the old timers need five minutes.” Slider laughs as the rest of the team approaches him while you and Bradley roll your eyes, content to toss the ball back and forth between yourselves for a bit.
“What’s up?” Hollywood asked, folding his arms across his chest as he approaches Slider, all of them wondering why they were called over.
“There’s a group of boys eyeing up mini Mitchell. They’re just staring right now but I thought we should keep an eye out.” Slider says lowly, just in case either you or Bradley overheard what was being said. When Slider noticed all of their eyes widening, he quickly shushed them before the outbursts could begin. Goose was quick to grab Maverick before he stormed across the beach to give them a piece of his mind.
“Why are teen boys so gross?” Maverick grumbles, quickly locating the group of boys and hating the way they were staring at his little girl.
“Mav, you were exactly the same when you were that age. To some extent, you still act like that.” Goose says, raising an eyebrow and chuckling when Maverick glares over at him.
“Goose, not the time.” Maverick hisses over at his best friend who simply lets go of him and holds his hands up in defeat.
“Alright, we’ll keep an eye out. Just don’t tell her what’s going on. We don’t need to freak her out.” Iceman says, cool and calm as ever but everyone could hear the tension in his tone. He hated when guys would shamelessly stare at women and make them uncomfortable. And he knew that Sarah was pregnant with his daughter, and he hated the thought that she’d be born into a world where men acted like that. The team of aviators share a knowing nod with each other before breaking apart and returning to the game. They play catch with you and Bradley for a little longer until Wolfman’s twin sons decided to start clamouring for ice cream, which causes Hollywood’s daughter to beg for ice cream too. Eventually, the whole team buckled and decided to go and get ice cream. You and Bradley elected to stay with all the beach stuff to ensure nothing was stolen. You kept a vigilant eye on everyone’s belongings while Bradley laid on his back, a pair of Goose’s aviators on his face as he soaked up the sun. Before too long had passed, you heard the familiar voices of your dad and his team as they approached. Wolfman’s twins immediately came rushing over to you and Bradley, proudly showing off their ice creams while Hollywood’s daughter was more content to stick by her mum’s side, shyly offering the two of you a wave that you both returned.
“Isn’t it crazy that it used to just be us two kids? And now Hollywood and Wolfman have kids, and Ice is expecting his first. We’re the oldest kids here now.” You say, glancing over at Bradley who props himself up on his elbows.
“Technically speaking, I’m the oldest.” Bradley says with a smirk before you shove his shoulder, causing him to fall flat on his back.
“Only by a year.” You say, laughing as he reaches out to flick your arm.
“That’s a whole year of life experience I have that you don’t.” Bradley teases, sitting up properly.
“Oh, I forgot. Being fifteen makes you a pro at life.” You say, rolling your eyes as you laugh. As you and Bradley talk, Hollywood decides he’s had enough of the boys staring at you from afar, so he enacts his plan to try and get you to change. He pretends to trip and drops his ice cream all down your front.
“I’m so sorry, kid. Do you have some clothes to change into?” He asks sheepishly as the rest of the team laughs at his mishap.
“Don’t worry. I’ll just go for a swim. That’ll help wash it off. C’mon Bradley.” You say dismissively to Hollywood before grabbing Bradley’s hand and starting off towards the sea.
“Well, that didn’t work.” Hollywood mutters, dropping down into his beach chair and watching as the teen boys were watching you drag Bradley down to the sea. Seeing you and Bradley going towards the sea, Wolfman’s twins started saying that they wanted to go in the sea too.
“Alright boys, I’ll take you down there.” Wolfman says, gaining cheers from his kids. As Wolfman’s wife gets the boys ready, smearing them with suncream the second they took their shirts off leaving them just in swim trunks, Wolfman turns to Maverick and asks for your spare towel, an idea formulating in his head to get the teen boys to stop their hopeless staring. Wolfman then got up from his seat, slinging your towel over his shoulder as he leads his kids down to the sea, laughing to himself as they barrelled in, both immediately being knocked over by a wave. He shot a glance over at the teen boys and he noticed they were now pulling their shirts off and heading into the sea. He noticed how they didn’t make a move to come any closer, maybe the presence of the aviators and Bradley was enough to keep them at bay but not quite enough to stop their stares. Wolfman moves his attention back to his kids and smiles as you and Bradley let them hop on your back letting them splash sea water at each other, laughing as you and Bradley get caught in the crossfire. When the boys tire of the sea, they wade back to the shore and approach their dad.
“Dad, I’m hungry.”
“Dad, I’m starving.” Both boys complain the second they reach Wolfman who rolls their eyes, it had been not even fifteen minutes since they finished their ice creams.
“Let’s go to your mum, I’m sure she packed something for you.” Wolfman urges, guiding his boys back towards his wife so they could dry off with a towel and get something to eat. When Wolfman turned his head to see you and Bradley exiting the sea, he came barrelling over to you, wrapping you up in the towel as you laugh at Wolfman’s sudden appearance.
“Uncle Wolf, no offence but what?” You manage to say through laughter as you’re swaddled in the towel.
“Don’t need you getting cold.” Wolfman says as he takes a step back, happy with his handiwork.
“And you don’t care if I get cold?” Bradley asks, a raised eyebrow as he laughs.
“Just teaching Mitchell junior how a man should treat her. As her uncle it’s important she knows how she should be treated. Take notes Bradshaw junior.” Wolfman says before heading back up to his wife.
“Does he know that your parents are the literal definition of romance? Any girl would be lucky to have you, Bradley.” You grin as you unravel yourself from the towel cocoon that Wolfman had trapped you in. Bradley watched as you walked further up the beach towards your dad with a slight blush on his cheeks. He had been harbouring a crush on you for a while now and he was still working on the courage to ask you out. As Bradley glances around the beach, he notices the group of boys staring and narrows his eyes. He didn’t know who they were but their unashamed staring and jostling of each other made them public enemy number one in his eyes. He chased after you and went to join you again when Wolfman’s twins came darting over to him, now full of food and energy and demanding he plays fighter pilots with them. Bradley looked over at you, seeing you sat on your towel with Hollywood’s daughter in your lap, sunglasses atop your head as you read her the book, she’d brought with her before turning back to Wolfman’s twins and agreeing to play with them. When you finish reading the story to Hollywood’s daughter, you noticed that she was starting to get sleepy and you figured it was time for her nap.
“I got her.” Hollywood says softly as he lifts his daughter from your lap, smiling softly at the feeling of her winding her arms around his neck and snuggling closer. You glanced over at Bradley who was currently pinned down by two hyper boys as you chuckled lightly to yourself but not caring to get involved. As you move to grab your book, Goose, who had been returning from a nearby shop after Carole realised she’d forgotten a water bottle, chose to accidentally trip over Maverick’s beach umbrella. The pole missed hitting you, and the umbrella shielded you from the stares of the teenage boys who groaned and exchanged looks with each other at not being able to see you anymore. Using the opportunity they had, Iceman and Slider glared over at the boys, hoping their joint cold stare would be enough to get them to back off.
“I’m so sorry y/n. I didn’t hurt you, did I?” Goose says quickly and apologetically while you wave him off with a laugh, shifting to be sat on your knees so you could get the umbrella upright again.
“All good, Uncle Goose. No harm done.” You grin up at your uncle who ruffles your hair with a smile before moving to sit with Carole. He looks over to where the boys were and they were still looking, not as much as before but still obvious enough to anyone.
“How have these idiots not got the hint yet?” Goose mutters to himself, being overheard by Carole who chuckles and grabs his hand.
“They’re teenage boys, Nick. Boys do stupid things like stare at pretty girls. Our Bradley’s been doing it all day as well.” Carole says, gesturing lightly with her head towards their son who had just been freed from the clutches of Wolfman’s twins and he was immediately looking over at you with a grin.
“We love Bradley. We want Bradley to admit his painfully obvious feelings. It’s different when it’s a bunch of teen boys we don’t know staring from across a beach.” Goose grumbles as he looks from his son to the boys across the beach.
“Aren’t you cold?” Your dad's voice pulls you out of the focus you had on your book, making you raise an eyebrow at him.
“What?” You ask, shocked that question had left your dad’s mouth at how hot it was outside.
“I was asking if you were cold, it’s a little chilly, don’t you think?” Maverick then says, grabbing his jacket and holding it out towards you with an expectant look.
“Dad, respectfully, it’s summer in San Diego and you’re asking me to put a jacket on?” You ask, wondering what on earth got into your dad for him to be acting this way.
“I’m just looking out for my daughter. Don’t need you catching a cold or anything.” Maverick replies, returning his jacket to the bag and leaning back in his beach chair. You rolled your eyes and returned your attention to your book as Maverick muttered under his breath about how annoying those boys were, all unheard to you. Once again, you were torn away from your book by Bradley snatching the book out of your hand, putting the bookmark in and closing it once more.
“I’m letting the team down again. Come on let’s do more beach shit.”
“Bradley Bradshaw!” Bradley was cut off by Carole who was glaring daggers at him for his choice of language.
“Sorry, mum.” Bradley apologises with a sheepish tone, his hand reaching up to rub at the back of his neck as he shrunk further under his mother’s gaze.
“Look at what you men have done to my sweet Bradley.” Carole tuts as the aviator's exchange looks with each other.
“It’s what happens to military brats, unfortunately. y/n’s just as bad.” Maverick shrugs unapologetically, looking over at Carole with his signature flashy smile.
“Let’s escape this conversation.” You whisper to Bradley, getting up and walking away from the conversation with Bradley hot on your heels. Bradley glanced over in the direction of the boys and when he saw them jostling each other and laughing as they stared at you, he instinctively wrapped an arm around your shoulders, tugging you into his side. He felt a sense of triumph when he looked across the beach and saw the boys finally leaving, all glaring at Bradley who simply gave them a shit-eating grin.
“Is this your idea of beach shit?” You ask, a raised eyebrow at Bradley’s actions as you hoped he didn’t notice your now flushed cheeks. Bradley remained silent, his brain short-circuiting at the way he was holding you. He could handle a hug, holding your hand would cause a slight blush but having you tucked into your side was causing him to stop functioning. He thought about how he had asked his dad for advice on how to ask you out and the only help Goose provided was saying to just ask, that the worst that could happen was you saying no.
“Hey, y/n. Can I ask you something?” Bradley asks, releasing you from his embrace and turning to face you.
“Of course.” You say, a gentle smile gracing your face as he takes your hand carefully.
“Do you think… I could take you out on a date sometime? Maybe that old diner along the beach?” Bradley asks an unusual shyness sneaking into his voice as he looks down at your hand where your fingers interlaced with his.
“I’m free after school on Friday.” You say, your smile widening slightly as Bradley looks up at you. His smile grew ten times larger when he locked eyes with you from behind his sunglasses. He lifted his free hand to set his aviators on top of his head so he could make proper eye contact with you.
“I think I can arrange something.” He says teasingly, making you laugh before he tugged you into a hug.
“Seven o’clock at the diner sound good?” He asks as he squeezes you slightly.
“Sounds like a plan Bradshaw.” You agree.
Further up on the beach, Goose had been watching the entire interaction from afar. He didn’t know what words had been said but he knew that from the shy smiles on your faces that Bradley had said something of significance regarding his feelings.
“Honey, look, I think our boy finally did it.” Goose says excitedly to Carole, drawing her attention to you and her son.
“Oh, look at them. It’s about time.” She gushes, grabbing Goose’s hand as her smile grows.
“Hey, Mav. Looks like we’ve got a wedding to plan.” Goose says over to his best friend, getting Maverick to look at where you and Bradley were now heading down to swim in the sea again.
“Absolutely not.” Maverick says, cringing at the thought of his daughter marrying anyone.
“Maverick, you know better than anyone that our Bradley is perfect for your daughter. She lights up around him. They’ll get married, mark my words.” Carole says, making Maverick shake his head with a chuckle before focusing his attention back on you and Bradley, where you and his best friend’s son were in the sea. He’d never admit it to anyone, maybe to Goose if he was drunk enough, but he knew Bradley was the guy for you. He saw the way you looked at each other and it was exactly the kind of pure love Goose and Carole had. He wanted nothing but for his daughter to have someone who could keep her safe when Maverick couldn’t, and Bradley seemed to step into that role without a hitch.
“I’m making a bet. Fifty bucks says we have a Bradshaw-Mitchell wedding in our future.”
Maverick couldn’t even begin to argue with that and so silently prepared himself to be giving Goose fifty dollars in the future.

“You ready to meet daddy’s friends, sweetheart?” Jake asks gently as he bounced you up and down on his hip slightly, eliciting a giggle from you. Jake had finally dropped the bombshell that he had a two-year-old daughter on his team and within seconds of finding out that information, the team demanded to meet you. Javy had already met you; he’d been the one helping Jake through the whole process of being a single father, but the rest of the team hadn’t been aware of your existence. Jake had invited the Daggers around to his house to hang out and to meet you. It was a Friday evening so everyone was free, and he chose to have them come to his house so you felt safe and comfortable with meeting his teammates. Now that the Dagger Squadron had become a permanent detachment, Jake felt more comfortable letting the team meet you since he didn’t want you to grow attached to them and then have them leave. He didn’t want to put you through any upset or heartbreak.
Jake stopped bouncing you when the doorbell rang, signalling someone’s arrival at the house. Jake walked through the house with you sat happily on his hip. Jake knew you were shy, so he was hoping Javy was the first one to show up to ease you in slightly.
“Hey, Jake.” Javy says with a smile as the door opens.
“Javy!” You squeal happily, reaching out for him so Jake passes you to him. Javy gives you a big hug as he enters the house, kicking his shoes off and following Jake into the kitchen to help set out food for the evening. You continued to cling to Coyote, but he skilfully managed to move plates while you sat comfortably in his arms. Just as the two finished setting up, the doorbell rang again, and Coyote crossed to the front door to open it after he put you down. He opened the door to reveal Phoenix and Bob who smile softly before being allowed in. The pilot and WSO duo enter the house, easing their shoes off and following Coyote into the living room where you were sat in Jake’s lap, cuddling into his side, a fistful of his shirt in your hand. The second your eyes landed on Phoenix and Bob you cuddled closer to your dad, hiding your face.
“Sorry.” Jake says over to the two, who shake their heads with a smile, understanding that you’re shy. You do give them a small wave but that’s as much courtesy as you extend to them. Soon after, Rooster arrives, greeting you with a smile and a wave that you mirror. Those who had arrived chatted with each other after grabbing a drink. None of them wanted to freak you out so they were content to let you cuddle into Jake and watch them quietly. Soon, Payback and Fanboy arrived, both apologising profusely for being late while they entered the living room. You gave both men a shy wave and they found somewhere to sit in the living room. Fanboy sat on the floor by the end of the sofa, discovering a small Mickey Mouse plush on the floor near him and picking it up.
“Is this yours y/n?” He asked gently, holding the plush out towards you as you nod and take it from his hand with a small ‘thank you’ as you cuddle the toy to your chest.
“Who’s that you got there?” Rooster asks quietly, looking over at you.
“Mickey Mouse.” You say shyly as Jake smiles down at you before pressing a kiss to the top of your head. He was proud at you for speaking to someone you didn’t know.
“You know, my name is Mickey.” Fanboy says which perks your interest as you shift in your dad’s lap, ignoring his joking groan as you elbow him lightly in the side during your shuffling.
“Really?” You ask curiously, clutching your toy closer to your chest.
“Really.” Fanboy confirms with a nod, officially winning you over as you wiggle out of your dad’s grasp as he eases you down onto the floor so you can toddle towards Fanboy. You instantly open your arms as you reach Fanboy, and he mirrors your action allowing you to clamber onto his lap and cuddle into him. You were clearly not interested in what the team were watching and grew restless but didn’t want to leave the sanctuary you found in Fanboy’s arms.
“Do you want me to take her?” Jake said, noticing how you were restless and didn’t want Fanboy to have to deal with it.
“Nah, I got her. Is that okay?” Fanboy replies, glancing over at Jake to get a response to which Jake nods with a small smile.
“Alright y/n, let’s move.” Fanboy says with a grin, carefully getting to his feet while keeping you in his arms as your arms wind around his neck for added security. You still kept your toy kept tightly in your grasp as Fanboy carried you to the back door. He stepped out into the cool evening air where the sun was beginning its descent over the horizon.
“It’s pretty, huh?” Fanboy says gently, bouncing you on his hip lightly. Your eyes were fixed on the reds and oranges that painted the evening sky, watching the clouds that passed. Noticing a passing jet, Fanboy carefully points it out to you before covering one of your ears and then pressing your head gently against his shoulder so your ears are protected from the loud passing of the jet. When Fanboy considers the jet to be far enough away, he removes his hand.
“Did you see that?” Fanboy asks with a grin as you nod, eyes wide with awe from the jet passing over, you were already searching for another one.
“My daddy flies planes!” You exclaim, pointing up at where the jet had previously been. Fanboy wasn’t expecting you to get so excited about a jet but upon the mention of Jake, he understood. You loved your dad with all your heart and Fanboy could tell easily.
“He does, doesn’t he? You know I do that too? And everyone in the house with your dad. Well, me and Bob don’t, we sit in the backseat but we’re just as important.” Fanboy explains, knowing his words were most likely going in one ear and out the other but he loved seeing your eyes lighting up at the mention of your dad. Fanboy then begins to point out various clouds, asking you if you thought they looked like something. Over time, Fanboy noticed that you were slowly getting more and more tired, and your head was dropping onto his shoulder.
“We should get you inside, yeah?” Fanboy whispers to you, turning to head back inside the house, closing the door behind him and locating Jake in the kitchen, putting food away.
“Hey, Hangman. I think y/n’s ready to go to bed.” Fanboy says to his teammate, who immediately turns to face Fanboy, a soft smile covering his face at the sight of you cuddled into Fanboy.
“I got her. Most of the others are heading home now so you’re good to go.” Jake said with a smile as he reaches out to take you.
“No, Mickey stay.” You whine, burying your face in Fanboy’s neck.
“y/n/n, come on sweetheart. He needs to go home and you, little miss, need to go to bed.” Jake says, reaching out to take you once more but again you shied away, even tucking your Mickey Mouse plush into the crook of your elbow so it hid your face more.
“If it’s okay with you. I could stay until she falls asleep. I don’t mind.” Fanboy offers, bouncing you gently to stop the tears he noticed in your eyes when your dad mentioned you having to go to bed.
“Okay. Come on, I’ll show you to her room.” Jake says, leading Fanboy upstairs after bidding goodbye to the Daggers as they left. Fanboy enters the bedroom, smiling at the décor. It was clear you were a big Disney fan. Fanboy pulls back the duvet on your small bed and eases you down, making sure that your Mickey Mouse toy is still in your grasp.
“Story, please.” You ask Fanboy, pointing to the book that laid just by your bed.
“She can’t go to sleep without a story.” Jake elaborates from where he stood in the doorway, watching every interaction with a gentle smile. Fanboy nods, picking up the book, sitting on the edge of your bed, and holding the book so you could see the pictures. Fanboy read the book, making sure to do different voices for the characters as you giggled at his variety of voices. Soon enough, your eyes began to droop, and you snuggled into your pillow, Mickey Mouse toy cuddled into your chest as you curled into a ball.
“Goodnight, y/n/n.” Fanboy whispers, easing himself up carefully and placing the book on the top of your bookshelf while Jake came in the room fully and knelt by the bed.
“Goodnight, sweetheart.” He whispered, pressing a kiss to the top of your head, and pulling the duvet up around you. He switched the nightlight on by your bed and motioned for Fanboy to follow him, both of them leaving the room with Jake switching your room light off and pulling the door closed, leaving it open a crack.
“You were good with her. Didn’t know you had that in you.” Jake comments as he and Fanboy make their way downstairs.
“I have an older sister, she’s got a kid so I guess I just know how to look after a kid now.” Fanboy shrugs, like it, was an obvious answer.
“Well, you won her over. I think you’re her new best friend. I’ve been dethroned.” Jake chuckles, clapping Fanboy on the shoulder.
“She’s going to be heartbroken tomorrow when she realises, you’re not here. It’ll be like I don’t exist to her.” Jake says, shaking his head with one more soft chuckle.
“I can always come around tomorrow. She’s a cute kid and I don’t mind taking her off your hands for a while. It’ll give you some time to yourself.” Fanboy suggests, glancing over at Jake whose eyes widen slightly in shock.
“You don’t have to. I don’t want to force you into anything.” Jake says quickly.
“You’re not forcing me. I suggested it. I want to help out.” Fanboy says, smiling at Jake who processes his words before nodding slightly.
“Well, you’re always welcome to come and see your new best friend. And I will be telling Payback that he’s been replaced.”
