Regular day at work(pre war excerpt)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I figure that Overlord(named Flatload back then) had one of the worst jobs he could get. Being a Duocon didn't change the fact that he also happened to be a flier in the eyes of others but as a Point one Percenter, he managed to get this little job.
It wasn't enough for him though. He had a curious, restless mind to satisfy and non-intellectual work was dull and frustrating. So he participated in races for the thrill of it. It didn't matter to him that he got laughed at just because he wasn't built for speed. He needed it.
It's all fun and games except he also got one terrible boss who knew he could push him around. Probably the one responsible for teaching him how to mock people(I headcanon that someone prior to him being a Con and Starscream taught him to be a professional yapper and this would fit the bill). Most importantly however, his boss contributed to his distorted belief that only those who dominate him deserve his loyalty.~🌱
PS: Ov's frame is different because back in Megatron Origins, when he was shown in the background, he had a different design and I personally like to believe that his look didn't just change by him taking a lower half tank alt mode, rather because Megatron wounded him so badly in one of their fights that he needed a new body.

Baby's first enum
I've been learning Rust, which is exciting, difficult, and strangely wonderful. It is my first static language.
So of course my brain rusts a bit, and when I go back to Typescript, I try
enum CompareOps {Equal, UnstrictEqual, GreaterThan, LessThan, GreaterOrEqual, LesserOrEqual} enum SetOps {Superset, Subset, Equal} function compare<T extends number | string>(a: T, b: T, op: CompareOps): boolean; function compare(a: Set, b: Set, op: SetOps): boolean; function compare(a: T | Set, b: T | Set, op: CompareOps | SetOps): boolean { const areSets = b instanceof Set && a instanceof Set switch (op) { case CompareOps.Equal: return a === b; case SetOps.Superset: return areSets && [...b].every((element) => a instanceof Set && a.has(element)); } return false }
It's not ideal, since I couldn't figure out how to make it only valid typescript if a and b must be Set when we pass in SetOps as op, but it looks okay!
And then you run it
console.log(compare(new Set([1,2,3]), new Set([1,2]), SetOps.Superset))
false
Well, I probably had a logic bug. Let's check
console.log({areSets, op}) {areSets: true, op: 0}
Ummm…
console.log(CompareOps.Equal === SetOps.Superset)
oh hey, it gives a warning, nice:
This comparison appears to be unintentional because the types 'CompareOps' and 'SetOps' have no overlap.ts(2367)
well, it's just debugging, so i'll use any
console.log(CompareOps.Equal === SetOps.Superset) true

Two versions. Because I had the oval frame on all the time while drawing, and then when I felt done with it I wanted to see what it looked like without. Interesting, actually. To me, at least.

Can't say when, or if he was always swinging between doing it or not, but Overlord claiming he wanted to kill Megatron has to be the biggest load of bull I've ever heard. Alas it's quite amusing to see the extent he goes to to hide the fact that he doesn't have the intent to do that(or, again, at least not the determination he claims he does).
I'll start from the very beginning.
Overlord likes to pretend to be this.. independent rebellious thrill seeking brat who can't take no for an answer and most importantly HATES Megatron.
In the Last Stand, he waited for two years to go to Shockwave to have his deactivation code removed. Why would he want to do that so late if he intended to kill Megatron when he knew the code would render him immobile? The code he kidnapped Trepan for a couple of million years ago. In order to convince Shockwave of his way of thinking, he straight up lied to him(he lied to Shockwave people) that he wasn't aware the code existed until he defected. Why would he do that? Because it wouldn't explain why he gave up getting rid of it. Because Overlord and his mixed feelings towards Megatron are the biggest mess out there and Primus forbid anyone found out he's vulnerable.
cough cough *ahem*
In MTMTE, he was rescued by the Galactic Council and made this deal to locate Megatron and let the Council kill or contribute to killing him(now there's no telling to what extent Overlord was willing to keep his end of the bargain, but he has been seen keeping his word before back at Garrus-9 with Shockwave). The encounter with Tarn made him decide to abide by his plan instead, smoothly delaying his totally-not-bs-goal for no apparent reason.
When he saw Megatron didn't intend to fight like in the good ol' traumatic days, Overlord, soo keen on murdering Megatron, didn't take advantage of it one bit. He said something interesting to explain himself, which was probably one of the few moments he was honest with himself, "I don't need to be seen killing Megatron". He finally admitted that his claim had always been for show.
Lastly in the Requiem of the Wreckers he claimed he intended to go to all alternate verses of Megatron and kill them. But who did he want to start with? His Megatron. Not any Megatron though. The prewar one. Tarantulas warned him that it would destabilize their timeline and possibly undo every other event, was he to interfere with that moment. Which meant that if he went there he could never go to kill alternate verses of Megatron because Tarantulas' time gate thingie would have never existed. Calling him stupid for trying to do this would be a mistake, because Overlord may be many things but he's not stupid. He understood Tarantulas' warnings, he merely didn't care. Yep folks he's back to bs-ing his way through life(if he ever left the concept behind).
Now there's no telling what he intended to do in the past, but he chose a peculiar moment, since his younger self might have not even been a pit fighter yet, and Megatron was in his prime. Whether he intended to protect that version of himself from Megatron or he needed to understand where he stood in comparison to him. 'Is he weak? Will Megatron always haunt him?' His feelings aside, it has always been about his trauma, his pathological fear of defeat, as Chromedome called it.
Ps: I wanted to triple check everything I said here but I got lazy so I only checked half of it :v
Edit: ok so i finally triple checked.

Cole Hill x Rust Vance have made it to over 20 fics on ao3, yay!
I don't think I've ever been in a fandom this tiny before but am SO happy to be here! I've written three fics (linked below) so far and have lots of other ideas floating around so hopefully more from me soon!
Seriously though, treat yourself to the Clown In A Cornfield movie and the amazing book series and come back to read all the banger fics everyone has posted so far <333
My first Crust fic, angsty emotional backstory for the boys
My second fic, some fluffy nsfw, taking place shortly after the first book
and a fluffy kid fic, where the boys are out trick or treating (along with Victoria Hill) <3

If the only thing keeping a person decent is the expectation of divine reward, then brother that person is a piece of shit; and I'd like to get as many of them out in the open as possible.

Made this doodle of Burning Spice to prove to myself that I don't have art block. Because if I have art block, how am I gonna make him kiss Golden Cheese? Also yeah, I was way too lazy to draw anything else besides him and that includes his clothes/shoulder armor skfjhgsajmdfbs

Joan Baez presenting boygenius with the Variety 'Group of the Year' Award:
“I’m here to offer the award for Group of the Year to three women who have personally and musically stolen my heart. [...] I believe that the songs of these three women speak to the delicacy of the human condition. And they are in a sense trailblazers, not just with their music and its uniqueness, but in their willingness to speak out for people who are marginalized, and in fact ostracized and persecuted in this society. To bring about any society of decency and caring is going to take a lot of work, and you women have been a part of that work. A word about the music: I was brought up listening to and singing harmonies, and I’ve heard a lot of them in my day. I have seldom heard harmonies as true and as fucking angelic as yours. It’s just a glory to listen to. [...] Actually, they, I believe, will teach us something about the kind of friendship in musicians that I didn't really know back then. I was trying to imagine Crosby, Stills and Nash romping through an outdoor amusement park [...]. Friendship and pleasure and joy and trust, all of these come through clearly to me, and I think we can all learn from that as well."
