"Sorry, I‘m not really good at this fine tuning stuff," Phil apologises with a chuckle, head slightly lowered to get a better look at the small wires.

It made him wonder a little on why their communicators were this cheap anyway - obviously the Federation had a lot of resources, he‘d assume that they could give everyone at least communicators that didn‘t burn through their wiring after too many crashes.

"What? What are you talking about? You‘re doing great!" Etoiles almost offended voice speaking back makes Phil giggle. "Stop putting yourself down for something so small. Look at your skill!"

Phil hums in response, being as careful as he can. His hands aren‘t that shaky, so that‘s not really the issue. Anything that had to do with fine tuning and detailing just wasn‘t his strong suit.

"‘S a bit hard to work in small scale when you feel nothin‘, y’know?" He mumbles, connecting back the wires before closing the metal back up. Phil tightens the band of the communicator back around Etoiles‘ wrist and turns it on.

It takes a few seconds for it to load up. Phil encourages Etoiles to try and use it, prompting for the taller to send a test message in their whispered chat.

Phils communicator lights up in return, causing a smile. "There we go."

Usually in these situations, it ended up in Etoiles talking about how amazing Phil is at this - he often in response denied those compliments as it really was nothing big he had done - and thanks him for patching up his communicator again.

Etoiles voice upon speaking up again is lower, sounding softer than his usually contrasting light and bright, begging for a fight behaviour. It makes Phil feel safe, in a way. "You said you feel nothing. Do you have tough, uh- skin, or feathers on your hands? Like you do on your face?"

Yeah, that was to be expected. Etoiles was one of the few people that actually paid attention to his small, hushed words.

"Eh, not really. The black spots on my hands are actually from overuse. ‘S numbing, y‘know," he explains. Phil squeezes his hands into a fist, eyes catching Etoiles gaze, who was curiously glancing at the blackened fingers and then back up.

He already knows what Etoiles is going to ask before he even does so. "Overuse? Overuse of what?"

Phil averts his gaze from Etoiles and instead decides to stare into the horizon.

For a brief moment, his thoughts wander back to a frozen wasteland of snow, a big and mighty kingdom raising from the ground. Adventures and missions filled with the smell of copper, a cloud of smoke and black dust rising from the vicious skeleton beasts.

"Withers," is all Phil responds with and Etoiles nods.

At last, they understand - Phils tainted hands of the Wither and Etoiles tainted arm of the coded shield.

my 2023.

yearly retrospective time LETZ GO!!!

last year i said 2022 sucked but uh,, 2023 was definitely worse :'o)

with the rise in queerphobic legistlation, school getting progressively harder to stay on track with, my dad dying, and just everything else that ive had to endure this year, its been difficult. but.. i somehow made it.

and you might be wondering how i got through everything. did i touch grass and magically everything was sunshine and rainbows? buy some overpriced self help book or online course that changed my life? No <3

i just,, did what i normally do. i played video games, talked with my friends, watched youtube, brainrotted over fandoms, listened to music, came up with cool outfits, somehow made it through skool, drew, wrote, cosplayed, roleplayed, made kandi and crafts, and just overall found ways to find joy in the small things, which goes a long way when youre trans in a world where your joy is an act of rebellion.

i also had some cool fandom moments this year! season 7 of siivagunner has been AWESOME, return to dream land deluxe was great even if it fricked with the lore a little, THE TOH FINALE WAS SO FRICKIN GOOD, marios madness may be my new fave fnf mod, NPMD THREW ME BACK INTO MY HATCHETFIELD FIXATION, i FINALLY got the kirby planet robobot soundtrack cd and the limited edition quiznos training game physical edition, i found ways to actually enjoy WDY again and leave behind itz toxic fandom, i got into pokepasta, tintn, gogos crazy bones, playtime with percy, inside job, tadc, i started listening to mal blum and against me and chonny jash, im currently being dragged into eggotama as we speak and im getting back into mpdsap,,

but the fandom that had the most impact for me this year was the june archive and restoration project. getting into TJA led me to discover bowlbys other works and get into one of the best fandoms ive ever been in, thanks in part to the june archive and restoration project fanserver. ive met so many cool people through that server, and getting to chat and VC with them has always been a blast. [yknow what? shoutout to all my friends that ive loved talking with all throughout 2023 yall are awesome]

back to life stuff for a moment here, i got to do a lotta cool stuff this year! i FINALLY homebrewed my 3ds [with a bit of help from jaco xd], GOT TO SEE THE HAUNTING OF NIGHT VALE LIVE, put together some awesome cosplays for gencon and halloween, im getting better at rhythm games, i got SECOND PLACE in my skoolz national cybersecurity codebreakers competition, i had an awesome bday, i went to go see barbie [my first movie in theaters since lockdown] and fnaf and both were AWESOME!! all of this despite everything thats happened in 2023!

and as for my creative projectz,, DIGIVERSE REBOOT EPISODE 3 FINALLY RELEASED BACK IN MAY!!!!!! holy frick i was SO PROUD of that,, in addition, ive been doing character reveals for gamerz epic megamix take, i created the doomed timelines awoken au, and ive strengthened my artstyle into what it is today while learning how to use my drawing tablet :3

in addition, getting into TJA and watching bowlbys animation legacy made me think about my past as a creator, and i started work on giving my old book ocs from my days in the TWOW fandom the care and attention they deserve, even if it means some slight redesigns or rewrites. speaking of TWOW, EWOW IS OUT AND IM GETTING BACK INTO TWOW AFTER YEARS!! feelz good to be back, and im hoping i can maybe properly host a minitwow at some point in 2024!

overall 2023 wasnt great, but i stayed silly and had fun despite it and i think thatz very swag of me!

now, every time i do one of these things, if i do an overconfident "bring it on" type message at the end i almost always end up regretting it, AND i am absolutely terrified about 2024 so i am not taking my chances!

so i leave u with this sentiment towards 2024 instead:

i gotta survive The Horrors anyway, might as well stay silly and do what i like while im doing it :3

mr bones! what are your plans for Mousewhisker, Berrynose and Hazeltail in your AU, since they're some of the very few genetically pure lines in ThunderClan? I always thought it was such a waste to kill Hazeltail off and then to have Mousewhisker alive and kicking, but, like, never father kits or even take a mate?

If the Frostfour haunt my dreams (derogatory), the Daisychain haunts my dreams (affectionate)

They were done MEGA dirty by the narrative and I plan to shake them up massively, but because they have so many things going on, it's really hard to commit.

I'll go in order of MOST SOLID reworks, and finish off with the Daisykin I'm still waffling about

Berrynose

Virtually unchanged. He's great as-is. He will be the mate of Poppyfrost and have two kits with her; the only thing different about Berrynose is that he's getting a fiercer rivalry with Lionblaze.

I will tell you that I briefly considered having them be enemies-to-lovers because I have brainrot. But I ruled on the side of preserving canon and drawing out drama between Lion and Cinder, lmao

Mousewhisker

Is going to be a relatively tame background warrior like in canon, up to The Broken Code. We're following up on his secret relationship with Minnowtail, possibly even giving him RiverClan kits.

He gets targeted in the codebreaker saga, and is going to receive a punishment of some sort. He will probably take the place of Rosepetal in this arc, being Bristlefrost's mentor, and dying in that skirmish. Berrynose and Mousewhisker are both going to die in TBC; but when is undecided because of Cherryfall, see below

Hazeltail

I'm annoyed by her unceremonious greencough death, but I'm not completely against her dying in an epidemic. She may also die in the Great Battle.

If she lives, she will be taking the place of Mousewhisker after his death in TBC, ESPECIALLY if the Erins get some sense and give him a canon litter.

She is also a transwoman; an identical twin of Mousewhisker. Start praying that Mousewhisker gets that canonical litter because whoever the mate is WILL get lesbian'd by this.

Daisy

Daisy deserves a much better treatment from the narrative. She saves her kittens from being taken by a twoleg who took Floss' litter before they were old enough to open their eyes, helps to raise every litter post-TNP, and makes a statement that there's more to a clan than just fighting

She's staying in my arsenal as a level head who the more reactionary cats of the clan shout over when conflicts are spiralling out of control. A shorthand for "ThunderClan is no longer being rational."

She's also a really close ally of Squirrelflight, and becomes a very good builder along with Spiderleg and Jessy. If Squilf gets another mate, it'll be around the Daisy's Kin era, after they both help each other realize they don't need to keep crawling back to mates that aren't good for them

(It's still a maybe though! But it does parallel something I went through, so I would really want to get it right for them <3)

Rosepetal

I care immensely about Rosepetal.

She CANNOT have that unceremonious death in TBC it was an absolute waste. One of the worst in the series. I refuse.

I am considering giving her most of Cherryfall's screentime, since they both have overlap as a set of overlooked Daisykin twins with no offspring. Rose will be going on Alderpaw's journey, however it ends up being reworked.

Molewhisker & Cherryfall/Toadstep

I want to keep at least one of Berry/Poppyfrost's kids around, and I'm leaning towards Molewhisker. He's named after his uncle who didn't survive apprenticeship, and the 'competent respected warrior' role is already filled by Rosepetal.

So Cherryfall will probably get killed as background fodder (possibly in the imposter skirmish to infuriate Berrynose like in canon), and Toadstep is dying of greencough while Spiderleg/thorn survives. I want Spider to feel the pain of burying a child to regret his absence in his son's life.

It's a bit of a shame because I quite like Toadstep, and I love Cherryfall's name, but everything about them is covered better by their siblings. They're better off as kills.
