This is Elvis. He might not look like much more than a fat, spoiled beagle, but this brave dog took on a copperhead earlier in the week down by the sheep pens. He was bitten once on the face and once inside his mouth. He nearly died. His sister Bella also was bitten in the hind leg (they were together) but she must have been the third strike because she only had some swelling and a stretch of shock. Both are home with their own private pharmacy of medications. Apparently, snake bites are happening at an unexpectedly high rate this week in Georgia. Anyway, we didn’t find the snake yet but I have a couple shotgun shells with it’s name on them for when we do. No doubt some training and boundaries are in order, as he initially he came on very strong with a nervous dog, unable to read cues... but then he seemed to take the lead, sniffing and giving her space. *~*~*BESTEST GUARD DOGGO*~*~* So let me tell you about the day that Porter and I have had so far...at 5am he absolutely lost his mind barking up a storm. That is always unnerving when it’s that early and just him and I at the house. Anyway I tried to calm him, which worked for a second. I then realized why he was barking. I looked out the window to see there was a car outside dropping someone off/ picking some up. I didn’t think much more of it and snuggled back down to bed. That lasted about 20 minutes until there was noises on my front porch...Porter is losing his mind again. I couldn’t ignore these noises because they were happening at my house! I got my clothes on and came downstairs porter darted to the front window and is barking like no other. I turned on some lights including the porch light to hear a man tell me to turn it off. So I am a little on edge right away. He was fumbling at my storm door trying to get in. Wondering why his keys didn’t work and accusing me of changing my locks. I open my front door and tell him to get the fuck off my property or else I am calling the cops. He was aggravated and asked to see his girlfriend...(she doesn’t live here) so I repeated myself and told him he’s gotta go. He begrudgingly apologized and said he was going. I probably would have been entirely unaware of this potential home invasion if Porter hadn’t alerted me to it. We went back upstairs to go and try and get a little more sleep...that lasted u til 6 when amazon delivered some stuff and Porter (who was still in goodest boy alert dog mode) started barking again. So my lazy Saturday of sleeping in has turned into being awake since 5am.
