Thinking about better call saul if the action took place in france just because I wanted to see them in cunty robes lmao. More thoughts under the cut!

Obviously the action and the whole premise of bcs/brba wouldn't work in france (legal system aside, the whole cartel and walter white storyline would have to suffer major changes due to social security and the mexican cartel well. not existing here stricto sensu). But let's talk about the real Important Stuff : their names

I think Howard Hamlin would work well as Edouard Hamelin. He looses the cool HH initials yes, but it works really well as a genuine french name imo, and Howard/Edouard are pretty close phonetically

Chuck could still be called Charles without any realism issue, but he'd be nicknamed Charlie rather than Chuck because that's what a french person would go for... nicknames don't work the same, yeah

Kimberly Wexler and James McGill, I have no idea lmao. James when translated becomes Jacques, but it's such a boomerish uncool name that I cannot resolve myself to call my boy like that. It's also one generation too old. Jimmy being born in '60 could technically be called Jacques, but it'd be old-fashioned, as it's a name mostly given to the kids of the decade that came before him. McGill is an irish name, so something funny could be making Jimmy a breton with a funky last name like Gall/LeGall ? That's hilarious to me. But who knows.

Saul Goodman is a pun, so this is even harder for me to conceptualize. Saul's marketing would definitely not work in france at all, as no one would realistically hire a lawyer with a puny name and such chaotic displays (+ I think ads for legal démarchage are illegal mind you). However, let's have a crack at it. It would have to be a pun based off an expression similar to "it's all good man", or implying something positive and familiar... I need to think on that one.

Jesse Pinkman is somewhere between 5’3 and 5’5 to me I literally dgaf what canon says. Every time someone so much as mentions his canon height I’m like wow how does it feel to be wrong? Embarrassing. If you read my fic just know he is 5’5 when I’m writing him. When I read fics where they adhere to his canon height it literally takes me out of the story. Aaron Paul may be 5’8 but Jesse Pinkman is only one lighter tall

i love gus in both shows but i think his story “matches” a lot better with the others in bcs than in brba because although both shows are about people who justify increasingly harmful things to themselves, in brba the fatal flaw is more like ego, specifically with our main character (ego as in a projection of the self rather than just vanity, ego as an inflated idea of oneself in terms of an investment in the self as father/husband/provider/archetypical good man, an investment in legacy, in pride), whereas bcs is for the most part, about a bunch of people that do bad things for someone they love in some way, however twisted the logic. and i guess the ego thing applies to walter more than anyone else in brba, he is kind of contrasted with most people in the show, and while you could argue much of the cartel is also driven by some form of ego, that’s not really explored and they are kind of just a conglomerate of baddies in brba, and i guess you could also argue that gus’ ego is in his ambition, that his pride is apparent in his massive fast food empire and his immaculate reputation. HOWEVER. i think that the core, the soft underbelly of gus’ story being firmly rooted in max pairs a LOT better with bcs’ way of writing about relationships and changes the meaning of some of those things. the meth lab was THEIR plan, not just his. doing it successfully means the success of max’s ambitions in ADDITION to his. he remains in search of a cook for YEARS, because that was max’s job. the cook has to be a chemist and totally up to par because MAX was a chemist. los pollos HERMANOS. dedicado a MAX. and of course the revenge itself. more than his own ego, everything he does is a monument to max. he dedicates himself to this entirely, revoking his own emotions and needs, just kind of coldly functioning for this one purpose. and of course you could say that that is also still ego-serving because it’s still holding yourself up this false ideal. but at the very least it’s a very different show of ego than walter’s. compare that with jimmy and ice station zebra, jimmy and the time machine, jimmy getting into law AT ALL, jimmy confessing. the transformation from the name of the child gus once was to gustavo fring, and the transformation from jimmy mcgill to saul goodman. guys. guys. i know it’s been said but guys

just realized that reed diamond is perfect for david's role. of course he's handsome and elegant so david fits perfectly gustavo's aesthetics. but. i did studies of him for my future drawings and i understood that reed diamond kinda looks like a ghost. all of david's features are very subtle, kinda vague and elusive. it's very hard to catch his image in drawing. and i think this choice of course was made on purpose. to show that for gus love will always remain like something haunting and also that maybe he can't see someone he likes as an individual, not reminder of max.
