Broken Images

I looked into the full body mirror hanging on the wall. My tired eyes wandered all over my face - the bags under the eyes, patches on my cheeks, how long was it since I washed my hair? For once, just once, I wanted to see what I truly am. My true reflection. But all I could see was my face.

I snapped this time, I hadn't been able to see the rest of my body since... And just like that rage surged through me and I banged my hand on the silver surface.

The mirror crashed into the ground and broke into tiny little diamonds. I could see my face in the larger shards. Broken Images, reflecting a broken me.

The biggest shard showed me as a daughter - my first identity. The one next to it showed me as a sister, back when we used to fight. The third depicted me as a friend - we all wish to have remained in touch with that one friend who we let go, am I right? In the next, I was a student, pouring into a book, eagerly lapping up all it had to offer.

These were the good memories - show me where it went downhill.

Then I picked up the slimmest shard, one shaped like a dagger. Oh yeah, the abused wife. I had to ask, didn't I? I shut my eyes to remove the images of his wandering ways. The next was a small one - as small as my baby. The one I lost. The one I couldn't save.

I wiped away my tears before I picked up the last significant shard. It showed me how to use it. To end it all and start over.

But do we start over? Will my parents start over? Will my brother start over? Who does it really affect? Will it really end if I decide to end it or will I increase my misery in the after life?

There was only one way to find out. I could see my face fading into nothingness slowly.

The investigation has determined that a sharp, jagged edge was used to deliver the fatal cut. They are still searching for the murder weapon. The victim was found in front of a wall mounted full body mirror in her home. There is a blood smear on it. Investigators hope it will give them some clue.
