Niamh can recognize - sometimes - when someone has the intent to defend themself. Most in due to the fact that these are precautions that she makes towards the person that she fears will take her life. Which means, this person does in fact see Niamh as dangerous, at least to some degree.
"I do." Niamh does admit, keeping her movements slow and predictable. She has no reason to put her guard up, not yet. "For I have been targeted a number of times before. Understanding your methods may prove useful."
Also, Thrasir is intriguing. And though at first Niamh doesn't know how to broach the question, the other presents it. "...you mentioned monster slayers." She points out.
"You really aren't human, then?" No fear, no unease. Full-on curiosity in those eyes of hers.

February Plotting Call
Hello friends!!! I am looking for Lianna, Kinu and Thrasir threads!
LIANNA
Authority - Yo, I don't know how enthused Lianna is about this BUT I am enthused so Lianna gets to express interest. cackling I WILL DEFEAT YOU WITH MY GHOTI--/gets dragged away from the mic*
Pasithee - She would like to help guard the prisoner she brought back. TAKEN: Sephiran
Non mission board related, but event related - Lianna would like to return home briefly. Idea for a kind of see you later thread or if you want, escort the Aytolian Queen home, talk about/debrief everything that happened. Idea is like the month 9 optional thing with Edelgard where she heads off to Enbarr for a week then comes back. Lianna returns home for a bit then returns, feel free to come with her or see her off XD
THRASIR @brokenelm
Need BL - Riot!!! She would love to see the city burn, watch the pretty fires.... but at the same time, she can be coerced into joining the riot.... :]
Also authority - I'd like to see Thrasir getting confused over a card game :] TAKEN: Byleth
KINU @foxfirekit
Authority! - Of all my muses, Kinu would be the most enthusiastic about it.
Infirmary mission - Kinu likes being helpful! If maybe an injured event goer, she can be your gofer for a lil. Hyper fox kit ready and willing to dash around the monastery to help.
Feel free to message me about these! I am more likely to reply on Discord (sekhmet) because my notifications about Tumblr messages are unreliable.

The woman walks out of the classroom after the crowd of students finally make their exit. She exhales a sigh of relief - Anna was aware this teaching gig would be a step out of her comfort zone, but a smaller emphasis on the paperwork would be nice! Then again, that's what training and practical drills are for. She can manage another session of military formation instruction if it means a round of being in her own element.
Now, she has a decent amount of free time before more professor duties. Anna can't think of anything better to do then finally get a grasp of that marketplace down by the monastery gates. She still needs a good look at what the competition is selling if she ever wants to be a contender in the merchant race! Of course, where she'll procure her wares is a whole different question, but one that will have to wait until her first paycheck.
"Oh?"
Her business trip will have to wait a little as well, as Anna's eyes catch a figure covered in a cloak. They are...hunched over by the entrance to another classroom? They sit in a relatively dark corner, clearly attempting to be inconspicuous to a passerby. It's too fishy to merely be a student trying to play hooky from class. No matter the reason, the obvious action is to find out who they are and make sure they're not a threat.
"Hey, not to be rude but this area is for students and faculty only," the commander begins to speak once in audible range to the other, keeping her voice relatively low and direct to not draw any unneeded attention. Don't need to make this more awkward than it already is. "If you want to stay on monastery ground, I'd recommend to stick to the fr-"
Her voice stops once stepping in front to get a better look at the stranger. As it turns out, this is no stranger, but rather someone that Anna recognizes all too well. Yet another face she never expected to cross again. She is uncertain if the cold whispers of death are only of her imagination, but they take hold of her enough to only allow one more, incorrect word to come out.
"...Veronica?"

Precipitation and games return. One noble re-introduces an old deck of cards, each painted with a monster, spell, or trap, to the people of Garreg Mach and the game spreads like wildfire again. Everyone scrambles to dig out their own decks, or gather new ones, and become the most powerful summoner on the continent. Merchants and artists even begin to sell new sets, breathing life into the game for those who had played it the first time, and providing a fresh entry point for newcomers as well. Care for a game? [Grants Authority +1]
Rain gently fell outside the window of their room. Despite the urge to go out and train, as expected for a hardened mercenary, Byleth couldn't find the motivation to actually do so. It seemed unnecessary to get soaked when it would likely clear in a few hours or so. Unfortunately that just left a different problem. Byleth was bored.
There weren't even any lessons to plan or papers to mark. They could tell it was bad when they were even wishing for paperwork just as a way to have something to do. Blyeth pulled open their desk drawer to see if there was any unmarked papers hidden in there when a worn deck of cards caught their eyes. It was their old rune deck they'd spent many hours building up when the card game had been popular a few month a go.
Shuffling through the cards, a wave of nostalgia swept through them. They had had many fun game in that time. Perhaps someone would still be willing to play, the game had been making a bit of a comeback recently. Grabbing the deck, Byleth exited their room.
It didn't take long to reach the merchants in the marketplace who used to stock the decks. It had been a while and Byleth was certain there were new cards to collect. Paying their dues, Byleth ripped into the new pack of cards to see what they'd gotten.
"Yes!" They exclaimed excitedly, unable to resit the urge to fist pump the air. "This card is perfect, just what I needed for my strategy" They glanced around to see if anyone had noticed their uncharacteristic outburst. Now all they needed was someone to play against.
Relax, or draw 25 cards...

"My... fam... ily...?" He can vaguely remember through the fog in his brain and the burning in his heart that he had one. He had a family that he loved more than anything.
A family that he would do anything to protect.
"Who... who would dare to... try and... hurt them, when I... I... I am stronger than anyone would... could try..." He hisses out through the pain. He wouldn't dare let anyone hurt the people that he held dear, not himself or anyone else.
Tumblr media
"I will... I'll kill anyone who does...!" He couldn't remember the faces of said family through the fog, but he knew that he was not the type of person who would let people so dear be hurt in any way.
And even if his entire body was in pain, Corrin would not allow that to change now.

"steel yourself."
at the sight of her tears, there is a pang of discomfort. whilst xander has certainly been a shoulder to cry on for his siblings, it is not a forte he excels in - there is a natural emotional repression that seems to come with nohrian royalty and he is no different from it. "you say nothing more, and yet you've found yourself in tears."
this was more than what the surface seemed to show. was she hoshidan ? was she from the ice tribes ? flame tribes ? it was best to be frank.
"i intend on making reparations to anyone displaced or harmed," he frowns. "but i can't begin to do any of that until i know who you are. please, tell me your name."

"Perhaps it is not. I would not usually consider sneaking about like this such a crime. Though... you do it with such a guilty air about you. Either way, the borrowing and return of your books is only a crime due to the current ban on use of the library. This doesn't have to be difficult, unless you choose to make it so."
Look, Nasir was no stranger to sneaking around. He had done all of his dealings in the dark once. The left hand of Goldoa to Gareth's right. The one who was able to do the things that the king and his forward facing vassal were unable to. Because he was not trusted in the same way that they were. Even after leaving, he preferred to stay where he belonged. Hidden. Mysterious. Behind a shield of secrecy. It was easier that way, behind a veil of mystique to keep himself safe.
He feels comfortable even now, hidden out of view of the guards with this strange girl and her (hopefully not actually stolen) library books. Melding into the shadows as if it was his second home - and in a way it was. More home than perhaps Goldoa had ever been.
"There's no reason to be so stubborn. It only makes you look more suspicious. At this rate, I'm only going to suspect that your name is on the list. In which case, I will have to take those books in one way or another."

"Why, yes, I suppose they do. But most people don't skitter about in the shadows trying to return said library books," Nasir lets out a soft chuckle, sapphire eyes seeming to twinkle gently in the darkness surrounding them. It's suspicious, to say the least. Not that Nasir particularly cares about suspicious figures in the dark, at least not usually. Usually, he would be fine enough to leave her alone, but he had a job to do now, and he rather desired to finish it and get his due.
So, alas, he must disturb her quiet presence. For just this once. Perhaps next time things could be different, if they ever were to meet again.
"You see, I've been generously given a job by the academy librarians. That is to say: I am to hunt down any of those whose names are on the list that they have given me for their outstanding... shall we say... amount of overdue library books. Its nothing personal, but I can't imagine a girl like yourself would be sneaking around unless she had something to hide, like say..." Nasir pauses with a smirk, feeling as though he had his assumptions right on target.
(Tragically, his dear little king's name did happen to be on that list. But Nasir asking for his books would be too easy. He would just hand them over without a lesson being learned. No, best to let someone else do it so he could actually learn something about how this world worked.)
"... books that she is trying to return inconspicuously?"

"You noticed....?" Niamh gasps - an innocent one, like she's made a small, easily overlooked error of some kind. She wasn't trying too hard to remain unseen, but her footsteps were generally light. Plus, the Abyss was dimly lit, so it wasn't easy to see...
(She doesn't consider the mask could have given her away.)
"I was curious...." Niamh then explains. She has no reason to lie. "I have not seen you before. But if you noticed me..." Maybe this person - Thrasir - had a reason to be on high alert. But Niamh is still impressed. "...then there's a lot I could learn."
"What alerted you of my presence...?"
She had to know. If it meant the difference between life and death in a future scuffle between her and her adversary, then this was critical information.

Byleth hesitated, hand hovering above their laid out cards. While the rules weren't the hardest to explain, it had been a few months since they last played and they were uncertain how best to explain.
"Well" They start "there are your character cards which you use to battle each other, energy cards which give you the power to attack and support cards which alter your attack, the field or the cards you can play on your turn" As they say this they indicate an card of the corresponding type. "The trick is to build your deck and strategise the best way to defeat your opponents army "
That was the basics explained, anything else could be clarified as they played. "I'll go first" Byleth said, drawing a card from the top of their deck before examining the field before them. The professor rotated their army leader into the active position and attached an energy card to them.
"That's my turn. Now you can draw and play"
Relax, or draw 25 cards...

When Niamh is called out, her head tilts slightly to the left as she processes the question. Can the stranger before her...help Niamh? Huh, but there's nothing that Niamh requires from the stranger at the moment.
She's curious, though. Niamh doesn't know much, if any at all, about a person with a makeup like this one. Was she human? There was quite a number of questions she wanted to ask regarding that. She wonders how she would fair in a battle too, but...
"...oh!" Niamh supposes she can ask one question first. "I am not familiar with who you are..." The what could wait this time. "I am Niamh...." when she trails off again, she stares expectantly for a response.
It's a stare without a hint of fear - maybe worse, it's a stare filled with wonder and curiosity. Even the mask Niamh wears cannot hide this particular expression completely.

"Cor... rin..." The name doesn't sound right coming from his mouth now, if it ever did. Ugh. He can't remember anymore, his head hurts so much he can't remember anything. He doesn't even remember where he is, let alone who he is.
Hadn't this witch said that she was going to help? Wasn't she supposed to take the pain away. She should do that now. He really wishes that she would do that right now, because he can't stand a second longer of this burning pain.
Tumblr media
"What... what do you want from... me...?" He almost wishes she wants him dead, because that would certainly be a very easy way for his pain to finally end. He gets the feeling that's not the case though.

Nasir may not have been a teacher of any class officially now - though the contract he had written up was quite clear that he would maintain regular teaching and office hours - but a request had been given to him nevertheless. The poor, poor librarians beseeching but a mere merchant to hunt down some of the missing library books that were keeping students from being able to use the library for their studying - for a comission, of course.
What? Did you really think that he would do all that for free? Of course not. Time was money, after all. And he wasn't going to waste precious hours that he could be using to fix the ledgers of the shop he had taken over - oh by the goddess, and they were a mess - if he wasn't even getting paid for all that work.
(He has no doubt that Kurthnaga is certainly a... leading factor in the abundance of missing library books. But Nasir shall let someone else try to explain that to him. He didn't have the energy to put up with his young king's naivete today, or even tomorrow. And hadn't he promised himself he wouldn't hover so much? Part of that would mean that the poor boy would have to learn some hard lessons if he wanted to get by on his own in the future.)
Nasir strides through the Great Hall, chuckling softly to himself at someone's hiss of annoyance. He ducks around the pillar, joining the woman - young, carrying the stench of death upon her - behind it. He presses a finger to his lips playfully, smirking down at her.
"My, my, whatever do we have here? A little rat skulking about. Shouldn't have spoken up if you didn't want to get caught. Don't worry, I won't tell the guards. But... in turn... do tell me when you're flitting about the shadows with... oh my, that wouldn't happen to be a library book in your hands; now would it?"

She only speaks two words - her outdated title - but everything else about her says all that Anna had feared. Colder, red eyes that threaten to drain Anna’s own, a mask hiding facial emotion from the upper-half, and a skin that is not of the mortal plane. This is indeed Veronica, as Anna had managed to stumble out. But this is not her Veronica, the Embla princess that she has formerly fought against for years only to eventually temporarily alliance against common enemies.
No, this Veronica is dead. Dead yet alive thanks to the blessing (or more like curse) of the Land of Hel.
They’ve only battled each other in one war effort, in which Askr was victorious. Though Anna supposes she can’t be surprised that a being who plays by different rules from mortals is standing in front of her now, even if Alfonse felled Hel’s ruler. No, the proper question now is why here?
“Just Anna is fine, Gene- Lady Thrasir,” the professor abruptly pauses to correct herself, almost falling for the same militaristic title. They are not enemies within this monastery. It would be difficult to continue the facade without any soldiers for either to command. (Or at least, she hopes Thrasir lacks any dead units to fight with in a place like this.)
“How did you…end up here? And for how long?” Anna’s tone while questioning does not escape the initial hints of tenseness, yet she tries to sound more sincere. Come to think of it, they never truly checked back on the dead land after the conflict was resolved. Then again, what new could flourish from what has already been lost?
