No right answer huh? Was there ever a right answer? But that was just it, wasn't it? Sometimes there wasn't, or sometimes the right answer turned into the wrong one. Or the wrong answer turned out to be the right one in the first place.
Her heart went out to Pasithee, and Lianna hoped that in the end this would turn out to have been the right choice. If it was the wrong one... she wasn't sure how she would feel about the church in that instance.
And just as Sephiran did not elaborate on what he said, Lianna felt as though she shouldn't ask. It wasn't her place.
"I hope the world never decides I haven't lost enough," Lianna replied. "If at all possible... I hope to keep my belief in that kinder world, but I also hope that I can also rely on wisdom from those more experienced than me as well. Those like you... have seen much, and it would be foolish to toss it aside."
She gave the man beside her a hopeful smile in return.

Lianna smiled softly. "Yeah, I suppose I was," she hummed. Really it felt more like Robin and all the others had been drawn to her and her brother. Summoned from their own homes for a purpose and then sent back once it was over... and Lianna seemed like the only one who remembered being helped and fighting along side them.
"I'm from a kingdom called Aytolis," Lianna replied with a smile. Then she listened as Henry went over her proposed strategy. As well as listen as he spoke about how tactics were used back in Ylisse. It felt good learning about how other places worked.
"I merely used the lessons I learned from Robin and from my best friend," Lianna said, laughing a little. "My brother is a better commander than I am, I'm more of a diplomat honestly."

It was rather clear to Lianna that she had lost her would be card game student with her explanation. She smiled sheepishly at Kurthnaga and swept up her cards back into her deck and started shuffling.
"It's very complex, I know," she said with a laugh. "I think the most important thing you can really do is read the effects of your cards to know what they can do."
Turning her deck back over she rifled through them again before pulling out two more cards, one with a purple border and the other with a teal green cyan border.
"Just two more important card types though before we try you on a duel," she hummed. "Trap and spell cards. Basically, trap cards, the purple ones, mainly do things in response to what your opponent is doing, while spell cards are there to enhance what you are doing."
That was..... a very basic information, but she didn't want to give her new young friend more of an information overload than he already had.
"Why don't we play a round and if you have any questions while we play, you just ask and I'll answer questions as they pop up?" Lianna offered.

She listened, as she always did when faced with someone of greater experience than her. Listening to where opinions differed and where they aligned. Still... the topic kept nagging something in her heart. Something that she had tried to ignore when faced with that choice of saving the girl or agreeing to her wishes.
"Such choices... That situation; it was, perhaps, designed to hurt us, no matter our choice," Lianna murmured. Then she shook her head. Speculation on that topic would be foolish at this time, and they would have no way to prove such a thing. The locked door taunted her.
"I had to face a similar decision once," she admitted. "Except... the person in question wasn't someone like Pasithee, whom I know very little about. It was my best friend. He asked my brother and I to kill him... so that he wouldn't harm us, because he had become possessed by the very evil we were fighting against... But after everything that we had been through, I couldn't fathom that ending. That decision was taken out of my hands though."
Her hand twitched, as though she wanted to clench it, but either stopped herself... or couldn't find the strength.
"Perhaps that experience coloured my vote," she conceded. "I will always believe that someone can be saved however. Mayhap you think that naïve, perhaps I am. A dreamer and an optomist's thought."

It was a horrible relief to know that her own feelings weren't just something she was feeling about the situation. And though that relief brought guilt for even being in a sense glad that someone suffered these thoughts and emotions, she wasn't alone, and that thought had terrified her.
"Having a pile of letters, increasingly frantic from my brother and mother was certainly a shock," Lianna agreed. "I hate to imagine what Rowan had to deal with, having to rule Aytolis in my absence, not receiving any replies from his sister... We've always had each other, but for the first time, he possibly felt quite alone."
She had too, in the illusion, so far from Aytolis.
She clicked her tongue when Forde apologized again though. Her sigh, ever repeated in this conversation it seemed, was sad.
"Please Forde," she murmured. "I find it not a burden to listen to you. We went through a lot, it is understandable that things are different now. Please don't apologize."

It was easy to tell that she had started to loose Kurthnaga in her explanations, but that was honestly fair. It did get complicated very quickly. She tilted her head and smiled sheepishly.
"There are a lot of different ways to special summon monsters in this game," she replied. "Any summon that isn't a normal or tribute summon is considered a special summon, basically. You can only normal or tribute summon once a turn, but you can special summon as many times as you like."
She rifled through her cards again to find a red bioluminescent fish, which she showed Kurthnaga.
"Unfortunately, there are so many different ways of special summoning something, I can't really show you all of them," she replied. "At first, you'll have to read your cards a lot until you start getting familiar with their different effects."

Sit back and relax? Was that truly how Forde felt? Somehow, Lianna didn't think that was the truth. It felt... so easy to lie about being fine. Lie about everything being normal. She just waited... and then there was the confession. Open, the truth, and so achingly familiar.
Her heart twisted as she listened.
"No, I understand," she replied softly. Lianna did not want him to apologise, it made her feel like her own thoughts were to be kept down too. "I understand... I keep going through the motions of my day, preparing lessons, walking around the Monastery, but I keep expecting to turn a corner and just... be back there, starving again. Or even just running through that labyrinth again, perhaps it was all a trick and we're just lying there and this is a dream—"
She cut herself off because she was staring to ramble. For a moment, all she did was breathe.
"It's... almost easier to believe... that this is a dream," she confessed. "It's difficult to wrap my head around, having lost a year in an illusion."

"Different yes," Lianna replied, humming quietly. "But even different, we should have been able to come to a consensus that we could all agree to be the best path forward, even with differing views on the subject. We were cut off from each other during the discussion though, only had a limited time to discuss our options, and then had to cast votes based on discussions held in smaller groups. That lead to a vastly different outcome than I believe we could have achieved."
Her hand fell back to her side passively. She glanced at the door that she was guarding with Sephiran. The sigh that left her lips was a little defeated.
"Is it not fair to help those stuggling to live with living?" she asked. "All actions have consequences. One always needs a chance to atone, or a chance to heal, especially one like her, considering how we found her... That the church is not providing this chance though... concerns me deeply."
Lianna raised her eyes and looked back at Sephiran.
"This is not what I was expecting, no," she admitted. "This is... wrong. Pasithee is deserving of a better chance than what she had been given. Would that I knew what happens behind this door."

Lianna nods as Kurthnaga asks his question. She remembered when she was just learning, staring just as intently as her new student was now. Trying to absorb everything all at once. His question was intuitive too. She showed another one of her cards. This one was of a bigger bioluminescent octopus, all it's tentacles waving a bit menacingly, also made of stars.
"Yes," she replied. "In most cases, to get out a monster that has five stars or higher you need to tribute monsters already on the field. This guy has six stars, so I would need to tribute one monster. If he had seven or more stars then I would need to tribute two cards to normal summon. I don't have any cards in my main deck that are higher than Snopios here though, so I can't show you that."
She then picked up the first card and held it out to Kurthnaga so that he could read the text.
"The other way to summon monsters is by special summoning," she. continued. "So little Paces here has an effect that lets me banish him to special summon one fish attribute monster from my hand except himself. Then in the next standby phase after being banished, either your turn or mine, he special summons himself back to the field."

Lianna's eyes sparkled with delight as Henry mentioned the name of his tactician friend. What a coincidence; this was one of Chrom and Robin's friends? The Ylisseans were certainly.... quite a group.
"I know Robin," she replied, smile touching her tone. "We've had the chance of meeting before."
Where they had met before though, Lianna would keep close to her chest. She'd learned that not everyone knew about their time in Aytolis, even if she remembered everyone clearly. It was a bit sad... but it wouldn't do to dwell on that sadness.
"If there were archers in the forest, even if my fliers were in range of their arrows while in flight," Lianna hummed, continuing to answer Henry's questions, "it's easy enough for them to dismount and send their pegasi and wyverns out of range while they deal with any enemies up on top of the cliff, thereby removing their vulnerability to arrows and wind magic."
She looked back up and smiled at Henry. "When splitting my army, I know I can trust my soldiers to act according to the situation while keeping objectives in mind," she said firmly. "My allies would all be aware of the plan from the start and any changes that must be made while I'm not directly there will be situational to whatever it is they find. Battalion leaders will have proven themselves as capable of acting this way."

Upon Kurthnaga's agreement to having the cards explained, Lianna picked up her main deck and started to rifle through it. She pulled out a few cards. Setting them down, Lianna smiled.
"I started playing it with the castle guards back at home when I was younger," she said. "I think it was a rather effective way to bond with some of my future subjects. They taught me a lot."
Pointing at the first card, it's border was a light brown with a picture of a little bioluminescent octopus that looked like it was made from stars, Lianna began to explain.
"So in this game we have three main types of cards," she said. "Monster cards, spell cards and trap cards. This one is a monster card, and most monster cards have the brown border. Monster cards also come with levels, which is shown with stars. This little guy here is two stars, which means that on my turn, I can summon him normally without anything special."

The smile that Lianna gave Forde was just as weak as his laughter. He tried to joke, but Lianna wouldn't mind his company as she went home. But she wouldn't express that, if he wanted to accompany her that far, then she wouldn't stop him. He flew off for five minutes and returned with a pack, which clearly stated his intentions.
On the road towards the boat, the sound of horse hooves creating a percussive rhythm she'd not heard in a while, the pair travelled.
"Yes, to you as well," she agreed; because it was good to see him. See that he was well, not starved, looking alert. "Our last conversation was under unfortunate circumstances, yes, but I was glad of it all the same..."
Shaking her head, Lianna focused on Forde's question. "I have been well, entirely glad to be back in certain reality." Though sometimes jumping at her own shadow when it loomed too large on walls... "What of yourself? How have you been doing?"

Kurthnaga? She'd be sure to remember that. Perhaps she would see him in her classes in the future. He seemed nervous, but also eager to learn. The sparkle in Lianna's eyes became a beaming smile.
"I am happy to explain each of the card types before we play," she offered as she placed her main deck to her right and the smaller stack of cards that was her extra deck to her left. For a moment, she stared at it before deciding to place it out of play. Kurthnaga was new, she didn't need to play her extra deck against him.
"If you want of course," she hummed, looking back at Kurthnaga. "Just so you aren't jumping in completely blind."

Lianna's mouth twitched downwards briefly. Light... grant her wisdom. Wasn't that her plea so many times before? She looked over at Sephiran and tried to stare through him, try to find what kind of person he was. He didn't seem to hate Pasithee. No... he wanted to respect her wish. A plea for death. That... Lianna hoped, meant that the man was a good person.
"Yes... I cannot deny that some who chose to spare her also likely made that choice out of anger," she sighed. "Though perhaps that rift in our thoughts... meant that such a choice shouldn't have been in our hands in the first place."
Lianna paused and looked forward again. What's done is done. Whether or not they should have been given the choice in the first place didn't matter. It had been given and the majority had spoken. Her hand came up to her chest, and clenched, as though gripping around her heart.
"When I made my choice though," she murmured, "I made it with the belief that no one is too far gone, that she could be helped. And that death wasn't the answer to it. I hoped... to provide a chance for her. To live, when she clearly had not had that chance for a long time."
