i think the thing about miraculous ladybug is that for how utterly silly it is, it does really succeed at setting up intriguing and potentially complex character dynamics, that the silly tone of the show continuously does not follow through with, which is hilarious, but i can see why people are upset that it isnt as deep as it could be. like the whole love square thing is insane. the fandom makes it so angsty but the show just milks it for dramatic irony and comedy. and both takes on it are great 👍

swear to god the gabenath fucked up dynamic is striking me in a way it never used to. If this show was actually deep i would go crazy for them. but alas this is also in the same episode where a giant blue frog monster yelling “hungry! miraculous!” in a silly deep voice is the greatest threat to paris

two episodes before this they were having a dance party to a knock off version of YMCA. village people outfits and all. now i am watching a 14 year old kid be psychologically tortured by his own father and then destroy the earth and moon

all around conflicted about this movie like im ultimately judging it from a show standpoint but i know its not meant to be the show so idk. i think if i found this movie on netflix without any prior knowledge of miraculous ladybug then it'd be cool perhaps but otherwise its like scream idk mixed feelings

another point on this movie being more serious than the show is that the akumas are like actually destroying things and being violent whereas in the show the akumas are like im the bubbler im going to put you all into bubbles

like on one hand miraculous ladybug is a deeply unserious and deeply silly show (granted i havent watched since like, s4 perhaps?) and so it was only like oh if only it was serious if it was better then it could be so good. but now seeing the movie take itself actually seriously with none of the silly stupid stuff its like. this is not my miraculous ladybug

progressively watching and rewatching miraculous ladybug as i get older means that i no longer get so annoyed when the show sucks because its part of the charm at this point but the one thing that consistently irks me no matter what is hawkmoth/ladybug/chat noir’s costume designs. chat’s is the least annoying but both marinette and gabriel are literal fashion designers and yet look even worse than him. you could have so much fun with the costumes (see: literally every other subsequent miraculous holder we’ve seen other than those three!) and so to have theeeee main costumes be so bland and ugly is like. Agh

the fact chloe refused being akumatized by hawkmoth because she really wanted to be a superhero that bad. and then the posts ive seen saying they really threw her entire redemption arc out the window in s4-5. makes me so sad. i was rooting so hard for chloe to get better i really wish they followed through with that
