Do you know I never planned on being in the FILM business? My first love was MUSIC. It's what I left college to pursue. It's what moved me from Austin to Philadelphia in '89 in hopes of meeting my muse, #PhyllisHyman who was signed to Philadelphia International Records, home of #KennyGamble and #LeonHuff. Not only would I move there, get to tour briefly w/Phyllis, but I also got to stand in the sacred rooms of PIR Studios, where I would meet Kenny and Leon, and #DexterWansel and #BruceHawes. It all happened because of MUSIC. After Phyllis' untimely death in '96, I would encounter another lady whom I equally loved, #ShirleyHorn, backstage of her concert at The Academy of Music Hall. That friendship was sustained 'till her death in '05, but produced a songwriting credit on her Loving You release in '97. This photo represents that intersection between my love of MUSIC and my curiosity with FILM that began in '92, with this first headshot. I remember consciously placing the microphone into frame to represent and remind myself of my first love. And while I would record three projects and several singles in the years to follow, the balance of Film vs. Music is overwhelmingly in favor of Film. One would think that would make Film my obvious love, now. But I've discovered something that I should have known and I purposed to never forget, and yet, I did. MUSIC has saved my life more times than I can write in this sitting. MUSIC still lifts me when I'm at my deepest and surprisingly, I have never married the two worlds I inhabit. Why am I not a #MusicSupervisor in Film or TV? Why am I not creating work for those artists that I truly love and draw strength from, daily? Is this my real interest in PROJECT Management? See, I mistakenly fell into the proverbial trap that many fall prey to ... having a thirst for knowledge and understanding doesn't always mean you need to be in the center of that focus. Sometimes, you're more effective doing what you LOVE as a help to others. This is my Journey, now... To Be of Service in the place where I truly belong. So the story behind how we connected is too much to type here. Lol However it's been an honor working with the man, the myth, the legend Mr @brucehawes. He is responsible for so many classic timeless records of all time on some of the most iconic artists ever and is definitely a huge part of the legacy of Philadelphia Music history bka #TSOP. It was a pleasure to have him in the studio today.
