To a time when Maximilian of Austria inherited the reign over medieval Netherlands. His government was harsh and taxes were high. When MAX visited Bruges in 1488, the people revolted and imprisoned their monarch for four months. Max responden by imposing a prohibition to organize festivities and fairs. To calm him down, the people decided to organize a celebration to honor MAX. Afterwards they asked him for permission to build a new mental hospital. MAX advised them to simply close the gates of Bruges, because the town was already filled with fools.  Since that day, the bruges are known as 'the fools of Bruges' Well. Now you know 😅 Sorry for the history lesson. On to the beer! It pours clear golden. With a big white head. Good retention. Aromas of grainy and sweet malts. Citrus and hops follows. Banana and herbal scents . Upon tasting, It gives you a very crispy feel. Yeast and bananas mixing with citrus. The belgian phenolic notes present. Herbal and a fine bitterness. This was the first time I had tried a Brugse Zot from Brouwerij De Halve Maan since the installation of their pipeline, and I can’t say anything negative about the effects of the 3.2 km long underground route from the brewery in the center of Brugge to a 2nd site outside of the center for the rest of the production process.
