I’m tiredt of these new YA Fantasies most of them aren’t adding anything new to the genre. I need them to come up with better titles all the blood witch heir bone shadow fire is starting to blur and I can’t tell them apart. Also, why does no one who writes YA do sci-fi. Sci-fi could be so exciting but the little stuff that’s there is boring

I feel much the same way tbh. As I’ve mentioned, I really need to catch up on YA blockbusters so I can’t actually say if the current crop of books is super generic, but a big part of my waning interest in said crop is because I can’t even pick any of them out of a lineup. All the blurbs are like about some girl and an empire and a dark prince guy and blah :/. I can’t wait for one of those game-changing novels to hit the market again, like THG or SOC.

To be fair I do think certain YA books have plenty of elements of sci fi in them, but I guess sci fi isn’t as hot so they’re marketed as something else. For example, to my understanding Red Queen is very sciencey, dystopian, and fantasy, but it’s only branded as fantasy. Even the Grishaverse novels you could argue are a bit sci fi-ish. The Hunger Games, Divergent, Gone, The Darkest Minds, The Maze Runner etc are also baldly sci fi at certain points. But when they were popular, dystopian was the big thing, so they’re remembered as dystopian. I’ve said this more than once, but I find that fantasy is easier to read and sci fi is easier to watch. I feel like people hear “sci fi novel” and think cheesy generic worldbuilding (like cryo, pods, phasers, etc) and a bogged down pace due to all the dry exposition. In reality, sci fi is so much more than that, but I definitely understand why YA sci fi has that rep because I don’t think I’ve enjoyed a straight-up YA sci fi novel (as in, not a dystopian/fantasy with sci fi elements) in years. Maybe the last one was The 5th Wave.

All that being said, I would really really love to see YA sci fi go through a renaissance because it’s my favorite genre right next to fantasy. A lot of sci fi books are hit or miss, but when they hit, they’re on the fucking ball. I’m also getting tired of seeing the same “An X of Y and Z”/“Blood Witch [Generic Animal] Bone” standalones/duologies and 16-book “white girl falls in love with a fae/prince/demon hunter” series from established YA authors.

i’m mostly a girl groups + exo fan, but a while back i started watching a lot of seventeen’s reality/variety show episodes on youtube thanks to an artist on twitter that drew svt members as haikyuu boys!! they’re both so chaotic and funny it’s such a perfect crossover

this one’s my favorite so far! (plus the reply) it’s based off of these two episodes (one and two) where they were divided into two teams and they had to race each other on an inflatable obstacle course

there was also another episode (this video is what i came across first before the episode itself and it’s still my favorite something about the editing just kills me) a long time ago where they went on a trip somewhere and then they decided to play hide and seek to determine who would have to clean up after they ate dinner and i want to draw hq boys as this SO BAD like this 100% looks like something they would do at a training camp (pre-timeskip) or something like a show featuring the jpn national team like what the twitter artist did
