For the record, it's possible to be in a fandom without engaging entirely with the rest of the fans. You are just as much a part of the fandom if you consume fanworks, write fanfic, make fanart, or make fandom inspired music without directly engaging with most of the people in the fandom.

There are some really, really toxic fandoms out there because of how manipulative and entitled the fans have become. It's perfectly valid to stick to the quieter sides of the fandom and lurk because you want to consume content without putting your mental health at risk💙
