the thing about scratch is, obviously it was and still is a place for teaching children to code, but in terms of culture it, or the more art-focused parts at least, tended to take after deviantart a lot (thinking of lick icons in particular, those were EVERYWHERE). like, a bunch of 8-year-olds trying to have deviantart but they're too young for deviantart so instead they just draw cats and wolves and dragons and etc. in a shitty sprite editor and have roleplays in the comments of studios or projects. of course, my experience comes from, like, 2016 at the absolute latest, i don't know how much the culture of scratch has changed
