The saddest part of the new ATLA live action to me is not that it was written by people who had no idea about the source material and went their own way. The writers KNEW the series, KNEW which episodes were key to Book 1, the core themes it handled and how it all stuck with fans over the years. Even DiMartino and Konietzko contributed to this series.
And YET it still feels underwhelming, like it was trying too hard to change things around and spoon-feed so much relevant information at once. There's no time to breathe, no heartwarming, introspective endings like the original series, it's all dramatic cliffhanger after dramatic cliffhanger.
Sure, it could've been worse, and it's far from the worst live-action adaptation I've seen. But, man, I was expecting a bit more.
