*Takes you by the shoulders* I ADORE character profiles and character trivia and likes and dislikes sections. I love knowing this ruthless, heartless, cruel man of a character has a childish dislike for mandarin oranges. I believe in the inherent beauty of making all characters, no matter the background or moral stance, being made fundamentally human by assigning them insignificant culinary preferences. I stand by the supremacy of humanizing villains by giving them relatable tastes and trivial interests and ordinary hobbies. I treasure the hidden reminders that everyone is inherently human even when everything else we know about a character might suggest the contrary.
Today's trope is Hurt/Comfort! thanks to @amyred for giving me the idea for this day!
Legend was hurt and had to keep going with the rest, there's no time for a break even if he needed. Ravio didn't like this.
He knows that Mr. Hero is completly capable of taking care of himself in battle, but needed help during the aftermath of each one. So he decides to come with them, to follow Legend and help him to take care of himself.
Legend didn't like this, he didn't want to put Ravio in danger. At the end he wasn't given a choice, so he let him come with them. Deep inside he felt himself a little more comforted, being close to him now at any moment wasn't too bad.
Silence fell across the room for nearly a minute as Lieutenant Jee stared at them, several playing across his face. First confusion, then suspicion, and finally an uncertain form of understanding.
“If you had asked me that this morning I most likely would have said no,” the Lieutenant said, sounding the words out carefully.
“But not now?” Zuko prompted, lips twitching up into a wry smile. He was gratified to see Lieutenant Jee’s lips twitch quirk into a similar smile in response.
“No, Your Highness,” Jee told him “Not now. No offense, sir, but your attitude has…taken a drastic shift in the last several hours. Time travel would explain that. And is far less worrisome then…some of the other theories I heard being spoken of around the ship?”
“Oh?” Uncle asked, leaning forward with amused interest. “And what other theories would that be?” The Lieutenant flushed slightly, but his voice was even when he responded.
“Some of the ones I have heard involve anything from possession to the bright light causing a…personality swap.” Zuko could feel the flush creeping up his ears as his uncle chuckled.
“All things considered those aren’t that much more far-fetched,” Aang noted, sounding close to laughter himself.
“Yeah yeah. Laugh it up.” He nudged his friend, hard enough to make him rock slightly, but not enough to push him away.
“You have to admit, you have changed a lot,” Aang told him, grinning up at him unrepentantly.
“Yes I know,” Zuko sighed, shoulders dropping slightly. “I was a jerk. You don’t have to say it.”
“Sokka did call you a jerkbender,” Aang agreed, but his smile took any of the sting out of his words. Zuko huffed a laugh.
“Well, at least I’ll get to avoid that particular nickname this time around.”
“True,” Aang laughed. “But knowing Sokka he’ll come up with something equally as bad to call you soon enough. And that’s not counting what Toph might end up calling you this time. There’s no way to know if you’ll get Sparky again.” Zuko blinked, staring at his younger friend as that sank in. Then he groaned, burying his face into his hands. He hadn’t thought of that. Sokka was prone to nicknames. And Toph was even worse. Who knows what she’d come up with if they met differently than they had last time.
ngl I keep forgetting that Hobby Lobby is a real store that people go to. That people actually think of it as a craft store and not as a crazy Christian mass artifact smuggler. I google "Hobby Lobby" and get a page full of results that make me go "wtf is this craft supplies and operating hours shit, I thought we all knew this place for smuggling looted cuneiform tablets out of Iraq"
I'm back on track with the fourth day of this week ! I blacked out during it and now there's ravioli but also Hilda and Fable didn't do their design for nothing
Also I was way too sad that I couldn't do the modern prompt for day 3 so they are in modern clothes/environment!!
Whether you write fanfic or original works or paint/draw, be it fan art or original work or whatever else - I have to know, because I have a feeling this is going to be very decisive:
Hey everyone, please consider buying the 2024 itch.io Palestinian Relief Bundle- it's 373 games, game-making assets, tabletop roleplaying games, zines, and comics for a minimum of just 8 USD! They have a goal of 100,000 USD, and as of the time I'm writing this post, they have 8 more days to reach it.
This can lead to a knee-jerk reaction when we hear someone else say "I am hurt". We look at them and say "shut up, you're not as hurt as me because you have X privilege".
This leads to femme afab queers being told "you can pass and hide as cishet, you're not as hurt as queer women who look queer, you're just complying with the patriarchy's ideals for beauty, you're hurting the queer community, you're anti feminist."
It leads to masc afab people, whether trans men or nonbinary or genderqueer etc, being told everything from "you're not as hurt, you can pass as a cis man" to "you have no desire to transition, you still look like a girl, shut up".
It leads to trans amab people who are nonbinary or genderqueer or agender etc, who still dress or look "masculine", being told that they are "unsafe" for queer spaces, that they don't belong at a "women and nonbinary meeting", that they are "basically just cis men trying to escape accountability".
It leads to asexuals being told "you don't even feel sexual attraction, the thing we're ostracized for! how could you possibly be oppressed? You're just straight and a prude" and aromantics being told "you're just straight and like casual sex, get over yourself" and both being told "you're just a cishet who wants to steal resources".
I have heard every single kind of queer person say "I have been harmed and ostracized by the queer community". Lesbians, gay men, bisexuals and mspec people, trans people, aroace people - every single one of us has expressed feeling ostracized by our own community.
On the plus side, this means you're not alone. Your group isn't the only one facing this. You have allies!! Other queer people who have gone through what you've gone through!
We need queer unity. We need to stop attacking each other. If you feel the urge to say "shut up, my group has been hurt MORE", go take a walk. Remember that every single one of us has been hurt.
