As someone who stopped playing Pokemon games after Pokemon Crystal, jumping into Pokemon Go has been An Experience. Every day day I see new pokemon and I'm inevitably like wtaf am I looking at? Shout out to @gigglebug for explaining things to me when I'm utterly baffled.

A sample:

Me: I got a pikipek, whatever that is Gigglebug: starter bird in one of the games Me: she matches my outfit, I'ma headcanon she's sitting on my shoulder Me: unless she's huge, in which case I guess I ride her

Me: sentient ice cream cone???? Gigglebug: yup Me: Pokemon got so weird after I stopped playing

Me: just caught an emo unicorn? Gigglebug: uhh Gigglebug: brain was like galarian ponyta but that's not emo Me: Blitzle Gigglebug: Oh, zebra lol Me: I named her Emocorn

Me: I just like… stole a pokemon from a Rocket grunt Gigglebug: I think the preferred term was "rescue" lmao but yeah

Me: I have a like… purple meowth? which seems weird? but it doesn't say it's special or anything so maybe they just are purple now? Gigglebug: Oh, Alolan meowth Gigglebug: there are regional variants now Me: ah, I wondered what that meant lol Me: because there weren't enough pokemon, they needed to make extras of the same

Gigglebug: also I think for the big raids it would be worth it to wait until you get the catch bonus from whatever type you're trying to get Me: catch bonus? Gigglebug: so you get medals when you catch a certain number of a certain type, and they give catch bonuses Me: oh that's what those medals are for lol Gigglebug: hahaha Me: I'm learning by osmosis here and apparently not well lol

Me: hawlucha looks like a low res superhero from a cartoon where a kid's playing a video game Gigglebug: another weird thing is hawlucha was found in the France region despite being a luchador lmao Me: because obviously lol

Me: I haven't seen many of the alolan ones yet Gigglebug: I've seen a fair number of alolan sandshrew. granted I keep catching them from rocket haha Me: I've seen slowpoke and mr. mime. mr. mime was real sketch looking Gigglebug: ah, those are galarian lol Me: oh. well it was sketch is what it was lol

Gigglebug: I need a good jolteon, I don't have any strong electric types yet and so many rocket grunts have water mons 😒 Me: I have a 3 star togedemaru that I use Gigglebug: oh jelly Me: it took me like a week and a half to realize it wasn't like pooping lightning at pokemon but raising its spikes lmao

Me: I've decided that for the most part my naming technique is going to be food things lol Me: my flareon is named marshmallow Me: I have a throh that's named filet mignon 'cause it looks like it has grill marks on it lol

Me: also one of the eggs i got from you hatched a really fucked up looking meowth lmao Gigglebug: was it purple (alolan meowth) or spiky grey (galarian meowth) Me: galarian. it hatched and I was like hmm don't like that Me: it's like if normal meowth and the babadook had a baby

Me: caught trubbish today too Me: I was like cool guess we're catching literal garbage now Gigglebug: aww cute trash baby
